hello people of the Internet,

I started watching Descendants of the Sun, simply because 1) I over-enjoy Joong Ki’s acting, 2) now that Vincenzo is over I don’t have anything else to watch (but I still have 10+ unfinished series waiting for me butwhateverright???) & 3) it’s a pretty famous kdrama so I thought I’d finally give it a try.

I just finished watching ep 8 which means I have 8 more episodes to go and if it wasn’t for some great characters/actors who are in the kdrama and for the military/action parts I am not sure I would want to complete this kdrama tbh.

I might belong to the few ones who didn’t like Mo Yeon’s character at all.

Like literally, Si Jin is trying so hard and Mo Yeon’s obviously interested in him as well and I get that they couldn’t just bring them together right from the beginning but wow, this woman can be pretty self-centred.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the fact that she is so independent, has a very own opinion about several topics, she seems to be mentally strong, is stubborn and obviously loves her job etc but WOW.

She’s trying to compare her own job with Si Jin’s when we are clearly talking about two different worlds with their very own rules, tasks, responsibilities etc.

It seems like in her eyes, her job is just so great & right that she can’t cope with the fact that soldiers are just following different paths.

She is getting mad and her pride & ‘feeling of justice’ finds its ways to ‘block’ her thoughts very quickly.

She is stubborn to a point where it’s just annoying to hear this whining about some things that can’t be told and shared with her from Si Jin’s perspective. She’s curious and that’s okay but there’s this sense of respect and understanding that her character’s missing.

Overall the chemistry for this couple is a bit dragged & sloppy. We have Si Jin who’s still trying very hard to not let this attraction get wasted and we have Mo Yeon who is taking a step towards and directly takes two steps backwards for very egoistic reasons (so far).

her character is just serving the argue feeling of skipping some scenes.

How do you fill your creative well?

Other forms of media!

I used to read a lot more than I do now, frankly my depression has robbed me of my attention span. I still love books and reading, but I am able to do it less often now than I'd like to.

So instead I fill my creative well with films and games, but mainly tv series. I find that the longer format for tv series gives more time for plot advancement and character development, so I enjoy them more than movies.

Recently I've been getting very invested in Korean Drama's on Netflix. There's something about Kdrama's plots that are so deep, so detailed, so intrinsically tied together, with such cleverly portrayed character development. I adore it, and they suck me in like nothing else.

I've been watching a LOT of them over the last year, and just studying the storytelling in them, and examining how threads are pulled together, has improved my own plot crafting abilities. They're so much more intricate and clever than anything I've found recently in western media.

Hallyu heartthrob Song Joong-ki is set to make a much-anticipated return in February as a spaceship pilot in the film Space Sweepers and a lawyer to an Italian mafia in the drama Vincenzo. After debuting in 2008, the actor has steadily captivated audiences through many films and shows. Let’s prepare our hearts for his comeback projects while reminiscing his most swoon-worthy roles.

Nice Guy

Nice Guy was Song Joong-ki’s first drama as the main lead. Of course, he was already popular having appeared in several well-loved dramas, movies, and variety shows. Nonetheless, Nice Guy was pivotal in his career and proved he had acting range as well as the ability to carry a series as the main lead. His character Maru transforms from a kind medical student who sacrifices everything for the woman he loves to a man on a dark path seeking revenge against the woman who betrayed him.

Descendants of the Sun

Descendants of the Sun was Song Joong-ki’s long-awaited comeback project after the actor served his military service. Having just been a soldier, he was able to seamlessly transform into Special Forces Captain Yoo Si-jin. His character was adored by many for his bravery, honor, and wit. As with most post-military roles, Song Joong-ki was able to show a more mature side of himself which contrasted with his earlier flower boy image.

Arthdal Chronicles

Song Joong-ki showed a decidedly unique image in the drama Arthdal Chronicles. In fact, he portrayed two different characters named Eunseom and Saya. The fantasy story of various individuals and tribes seeking power in the ancient land of Arth is fascinating and previously unheard of amongst K-dramas. You naturally end up rooting for sweet Eunseom and Tanya (Kim Ji-won), but it was especially nice to see a muscular and rugged Song Joong-ki.

Space Sweepers

Song Joong-ki will be making his return through the space blockbuster movie Space Sweepers very soon! In this film, he’ll portray genius pilot Kim Tae-ho who is willing to do anything for money. Set in the year 2092, Kim Tae-ho and his fellow spaceship misfits chase after space debris for a living. They inadvertently come across a dangerous humanoid and attempt to make a large profit through a dangerous trade.

Vincenzo

Song Joong-ki will also be making a drama comeback via Vincenzo where he portrays a consigliere to an Italian mafia. He returns to Korea in search of treasure hidden by the mafia, but accidentally gets embroiled in a lawsuit against an evil conglomerate. As shown throughout his career, Song Joong-ki will bring to life a character different from all of his previous roles. The actor looks handsome regardless of what he wears, but he does look exceptionally fine in suits.
