liam narrating “orym, a complete bloody mess, pushes himself up. hex is gone. he can barely move. he’s exhausted.” and his voice breaking as he continues “but his father wouldn’t stop protecting his friends, and neither would his husband.” and ashley saying “oh my god.” as she immediately goes through all the stages of grief,,, yeah

Orym picking up that chunk of breastplate, thinking about how many people he lost fighting Otohan Thull
The moon, and sun, and sword, and shield, and now armour
This little robot that rolled into his life only a few months ago, who'd only known consciousness for a few years longer than that - sacrificed themself for the cause
So stupid as to ignore the proof that Exandria is round, but so wise to know truth and love, gone.
He needs another tattoo...

"Protect the Tempest!"
First time in years I’ve done a more complex scene, all in digital watercolour! On a list of the worst days of Orym’s life, this will probably make the top three. And for Lita's life as well, let’s face it…

Will Never Give Up (C3E91)
Orym fighting Otohan in the shadows of Will and Derrig
As Liam said: "Orym, a complete bloody mess, pushes himself up.
Hex is gone.
He can barely move.
He's exhausted.
But his father wouldn't stop protecting his friends, and neither would his husband."

I was fine during Orym's speech to Derrig, I was moved but not super emotional. But then. Then Liam Christopher "Tragedy Bard" O'Brien had to turn to Will's grave and say "Hey, you" in the exact cadence my husband says it in every time I call him on the phone. And that is what fucking took me out and made me cry for the next 15 minutes.

After rewatching the new animated intro several times, I've realized why the petal scene hits me so hard. It's how fast Will and Derrig disappeared and yet how gentle and beautiful it was potrayed.
One moment they were there with Orym, training with him. The next, they are gone to the wind and he's alone, steeling himself for the fight ahead.

Headcanoning that when Will was a bitty child, he’d sometimes storm out of the house over some injustice his parents committed like siding with his sisters or enforcing bedtime even though Raina next door is also his age and they get to go to bed later why not him—! In any case, Nel and Derrig never worried when Will fumed out the door because he was always, most definitely at Orym’s place, sniffling at Alma’s table and rage-eating his way through freshly baked muffins and biscuits.
Orym’s just glad for the impromptu playdate.

I love how people keep saying "Will and Derrig were bait!"
Baby. Honey. Sweetheart. Darling of my heart.
They weren't the bait. KEYLETH was the bait. They were just in the way. And I think that's even more painful than them being the bait.

Redesign of all of Orym's family we've met! (I refuse to change Will if we find out it's vastly different later on)
Missing the dark hair from my designs in January tho tbh

orym calling “chetney. where’s otohan’s shit?” and chetney saying “here.” and orym saying “lay it out.” and walking over and picking up one of the swords and jamming it into the soil and saying, voice layered with rage and grief and exhaustion, “that is the blade that killed my father and my husband. she is not right.” and walking away from everyone else

[ID: A digital drawing of Derrig and Orym from Critical Role. Orym is a toddler and Derrig is kneeling to lift him away from a low branch of a tree that Orym was trying to climb. Derrig looks fondly exasperated and says "Oh no you don't", Orym looks surprised.
A Derrig and Orym kofi doodle request for @sociallyawkwardfoxwriter!

Ok, so this just came to me randomly.
So, you know how in military funerals, they present a flag to the closet living relative to the solider who died, right?
What if in Zephrah, instead of flags, they present the dead soldiers' shield? So Nell would get Derrigs shield, and being his husband, Orym would get Will's?
It would explain why the shield is so important to Orym.
Or, counter point, instead of exchanging rings, they exchange weapons and the sheild is the equivalent of a wedding ring?
I dunno man, just been having Orym and Will thoughts.

Footsteps
"Orym, out of old habit, falls in where Derrig would, to the right and behind Keyleth."
So many great moments in the last episode! And Liam wrenching at my heartstrings without half trying.

"Hey! He wasn't a total dick-fuck!"
Yes, but on a sliding scale of Thoreau Lionett to Derrig of the Air Ashari, Relvin Temult barely rates above Syldor Vessar, so that's not saying much. He's not exactly DnDad of the year.
