"Protect the Tempest!"
Tumblr media
First time in years I’ve done a more complex scene, all in digital watercolour! On a list of the worst days of Orym’s life, this will probably make the top three. And for Lita's life as well, let’s face it…

Love the difference between Maeve’s attempted formality vs Lita (Leeta)’s more natural formality haha

If we don't get the Crown Keepers I think it'd be good to get Lita 🥺 It'd be nice for Orym to get a hug from one of his big sisters after All That.

10. "Please... what am I doing wrong?" "What aren't you doing wrong?!" for... Lita (or Maeve), Will and Orym? in the dialogue prompt ask?
Prompt Definitely some intense arguing sibling energy there. Though I think I'm going to make it a lot less... intense. 10 "Please... what am I doing wrong?" "What aren't you doing wrong?!"
Orym watches as Lita once more beats her brother into the ground.
It's not surprising, really. Lita is older than him and Will, has been training longer than them, so of course her superior experience will see her beating their asses pretty consistently in sparring matches.
Though that doesn't make her winning streak any less frustrating for Will.
"Damnit! I know the forms just as well as you, so why can't I win?" Will shouts at the sky, splayed out on the ground. "What am I doing wrong?"
"Everything," Lita answers with a careless shrug.
"Liar," Will refutes, bringing his head off the ground to stare at her.
"Don't know what to tell you, little brother, but you're doing it all wrong," she doubles down.
Will just huffs and flops back down into the dirt, obviously still in disagreement with Lita's assessment.
But Orym thinks he might know what she's talking about.
Will is well-practiced in the Zeph'aeratam. As he should be, with Derrig and Lita (and to a lesser extent Baernie and Maeve) practicing plenty at home within his sight.
And the Zeph'aeratam, like most everything from Zephrah, is based around air and wind. And the thing about wind is that, unless there's something unnatural happening, its strength ebbs and flows. It gusts and stills.
So Will's problem, by Orym's observation, is that he's always trying to gust. To attack at full throttle without break. And that is not the way of the Zeph'aeratam. If Will would stop trying to constantly blow through the attack forms, take some time to breathe on the defensive ones, he'd probably do a lot better because he'd be using the Zeph'aeratam correctly.
Now Orym could try and share this revelation with Will... or he could continue to enjoy Will's cute pouting. Decisions, decisions...

Orym vignette request~
“Nap” or “Will’s sisters”
I couldn't decide which one I wanted to do, so… you're getting both! :D I hope you like them!
-------
"A Moment's Respite"
Orym approached the tall, graceful woman standing at the cliff edge and bowed. "You summoned me, Tempest?"
"Yes." She turned as Orym straightened, and he could see that her eyes were shadowed with worry and concern. "Orym… are you… all right?"
"Tempest?"
"It's been almost four weeks since the attack, and I don't think you've slept more than three or four hours a night since then." Keyleth reached out and very lightly stroked back Orym's soft brown hair. "I know you want to be vigilant, but… you can't protect me or anyone else if you're asleep on your feet."
"It's… not just that, Tempest. It's…" He tried valiantly to hide it, but the druid saw the flash of anguish in his eyes.
Too late, Orym looked down at his feet awkwardly, and Keyleth sighed. Then she put one hand on his shoulder and began to walk through Zephrah, guiding him along at her side.
"Come. I have an idea."
Together they walked through the village, and those they passed bowed their heads in respect to Keyleth. Eventually, the two arrived at the foot of a large tree. Unlike most of the trees of Zephrah, this one stood far taller, its branches spreading wide and its canopy high. The trunk was an almost shimmering white, but most intriguing of all was the number of ravens that sat upon its branches.
Now it was Keyleth's turn to look momentarily stricken, and she briefly closed her eyes, then re-opened them and looked down at Orym.
"Do something for me, Orym."
"Of course, Tempest. Anything you command."
Keyleth pointed up to a small cluster of branches. "Climb up there, and rest." She raised her voice ever so slightly. "The ravens shall guard your rest." In response to her words, a few of the ravens fluttered away from the cluster to make room, then they looked down at Orym respectfully.
"Are… you sure about this?"
She nodded and smiled, then rested her hand on his shoulder. "Yes." Keyleth lowered her voice to a near-whisper. "This is where I come when I want to dream of the one I loved and lost. I see no reason why you can't do the same."
Orym swallowed hard and nodded, then he clicked his heels and sprang several feet straight up into the air to land dextrously on the branch that Keyleth had indicated. He set aside his sword and his shield, though keeping them within easy reach, and stretched out his legs while leaning back against the tree.
One raven, larger than the rest, coasted down from higher in the tree to land beside him, and the halfling couldn't help but smile wanly at it.
"You're gonna guard my rest, right? You're almost as big as me, so I'll trust you."
The raven tilted its head and lightly pecked at Orym's chest, just over his heart.
Orym closed his eyes, did his best to swallow his tears, and slowly, slowly, slowly, let the exhaustion and pain and heartache take him as he slid into sleep.
-------
"Found Family"
"ORYM, CAN YOU COME HELP ME, PLEASE?" Berenie's voice carried from the kitchen, and a moment later, the halfling appeared in the doorway.
"Sure, what do you need?"
"I just realized I forgot to pick some fresh herbs from the garden, would you mind going outside and getting some for me?" She saw him raise one hand and immediately shook her head. "No, no, no, don't waste your Druidcraft on that. Besides, I need more than one type of herb so you'd have to go outside anyway."
Orym laughed softly. "Fine, then, which ones do you need?"
"I need…" Berenie glanced over her shoulder at the recipe book. "Tarragon, some dill, and a double handful of parsley."
"Roast stew tonight, I take it?" Just the thought of it made his stomach rumble, and he heard a giggle from behind him as Lita came in.
"I heard that in the hallway, Orym."
"Sorry, I haven't had breakfast yet. I only just finished my morning routine and-"
"Oh, no, don't let Maeve hear that you skipped breakfast, she'll take your head off."
"I didn't skip breakfast, that's why I was actually coming in here-"
"DID HE FORGET TO EAT AGAIN?!" came a bellow from outside.
"I didn't forget, Maeve, I just finished exercising!" he called out the kitchen window, while Lita gave him a knowing grin and Berenie went back to preparing the stew for the evening meal.
"ORYM, DON'T YOU DARE DO ANYTHING BEFORE GETTING SOME FOOD INTO YOU, YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR STRENGTH UP!"
"But Berenie needs some herbs-"
"DON'T MAKE ME COME IN THERE!"
Berenie laughed and called out, "If you're going to come in here to yell at him, maybe you should bring me some herbs instead!"
"Nah, I'll get them." Orym swiped some freshly baked waybread from the table, broke off a piece, and popped it into his mouth. With his mouth still full, he glanced back at Berenie and asked, "You said dill, tarragon, and what else?"
"Parsley, double handful."
"Got it. Back in a little bit." Munching on the bread, he left the house and circled around to the large garden in the back, where he found Maeve on her hands and knees, tending to one corner where she kept her medicinal plants.
"G'morning, Maeve… see? I'm eating." He waved the waybread in her direction, and she gave him a measured glare.
"I've seen sparrows that eat more than you. And with all that you put yourself through, you really should be eating better, Orym."
"It's fine… I'm like half your size, so I only need to eat half as much."
Maeve tossed a clod of earth at him, which he easily dodged. "Make sure to get something more substantial into you after you finish picking those herbs for Berenie. Will needs something solid to hug."
"I've not heard him complaining," Orym murmured under his breath as he gathered the requested herbs.
"True, you usually just have him making other sounds-"
Now it was Maeve's turn to dodge as Orym chucked a handful at her, his face flaming red.
"MAEVE!"
"I'm not wrong, though!"
"Oh, shut up."
Maeve laughed and went back to tending her plants, while Orym finished gathering the herbs for dinner and came back inside. Lita and Berenie were working side by side in the kitchen, Berenie industriously scouring and washing the heavy iron cauldron, and Lita quickly making some eggs and bacon.
Orym set the herbs beside Berenie on the counter, then accepted the eggs and bacon from Lita. "Thanks, Li."
"You're welcome, little brother."

Last month at the wiki — February 2023
Encyclopedia Exandria is always changing with updates, additions, expansions, and edits. The first Wednesday of every month, we highlight significant work done in the previous month by our editing community. We're doing this on a first Monday this month because the first Wednesday caught us unawares by being the first of March!
As always, to start, here's a selection of ten articles created in February. You can find more of our newest articles at the 50 newest pages report!
Port Udall, settlement in Tal'Dorei destroyed by Thordak c. 795
Faramore, merchant in Gelvaan
Tishtan, nomadic people that disappeared before the Age of Arcanum
Cobalt Reserve, branch of Library of the Cobalt Soul in Westruun [previously a redirect]
Fate-Touched, individuals who influence nearby threads of fate
Lita, of the Air Ashari, Will's sister and Orym's sister-in-law
Drekkit, leader of the goblin raiders who kidnapped the Brenattos
Khaaz, goblin raider and torturer, Drekkit's partner
Changebringer coin, holy symbol owned by Fresh Cut Grass
Egelin Quarry, strip mine in the Marrow Valley
Last month, we didn't just create new articles, we also created a new namespace! We moved all transcript articles to a new home on the wiki. If you missed it, you can read our post about it here on Tumblr.
Khime was found to be in Call of the Netherdeep. His article was expanded with new details and moved to the correct spelling of his name. The individual pages for Gilmore's parents were also merged into a single article, Soren and Opesa Geddmore, so that they may be better covered together.
Following a mention in Campaign 3, Terrah received an expansion to its history section, and now the article finally properly covers its history in Campaign 1 (and pre-Campaign 1).
This month was a little quieter outside of regular updates to keep up with newly releasing content, but we're always doing that valuable work as well.

I'm thrilled to see what this bunch is up to (Aabria is amazing as always, and I adore how Christian makes FRIDA emanate such a calm and sweet energy!!) But we're all curious who's going to show up when we switch to the Ashton-Laudna-Orym group, right? Based on how relatively close to the Key they've ended up I suppose they'll meet someone more or less aware of the situation but who knows.

She was brought to dinner by a woman named Delilah.
"I mean, I remember quite a lot, for better or worse. My parents thought that getting an invitation to the palace, to the castle, to meet the Lord and Lady Briarwood was a great boon. We were promised a wonderful feast and an amazing party. We were told we were going to be serving a greater purpose for Whitestone."
Orym froze.
"Laudna?"
"Hm?"
"You know what's interesting about you?"
"Hmm. Well, I would hope a great deal of many things."
"There's the obvious, but you are the happiest person in this bunch."
"Of course. The worst thing that's ever happened to me has already happened."
"What the fuck is up with that?"
"I remember being tossed clothes to wear—it was actually quite fantastic. And then...the rest is a little fuzzy. They dragged me away, separated me from my parents. Next thing I remember is waking up, being hung from a tree. It was the Sun Tree, actually. Quite a spectacle. Oh! And there's these—"
Laudna pulled the small ear cuffs she wore off, showing the jagged tips of her ears.
"They cut my ears to make them pointy, to further match whatever warning signal I was."
We have to help them. We're did this to her. We're the reason she was on that tree in the first place.
And Vox Machina, mighty Vox Machina, keeps to the square's outskirts. Percy and Vax notice it first.
Eight bodies, hanging from the Sun Tree. One for each of them.
Each of the bodies dressed and set as a message.
A message received, and left for another party, years later, to find.

@ghostofwhitestone was doing HCs around Orym/Will a while ago, and I had described a little thing in my ask and it just has not gotten out of my head, so here's a tiny drabble with my original thoughts and theirs included.
The house after the funeral is quiet. Weirdly quiet. Orym doesn't think the house has ever been this quiet.
Everyone is just sort of...staring. Nel's been crying since the funeral, and she's still sniffling, wiping her eyes with her handkerchief every so often. When they got back, Maeve made tea, but it's still sitting on the table where she placed it.
"Do you remember the time Will fell out of a tree watching you train?" The entire group looked at Berenie. "He had climbed up into the branches and just stared for...I don't even know how long. He leaned forward too far and the branch snapped and you could hear it through all of Zephrah. He wouldn't talk about it for a week—just get all red when anybody mentioned it."
"There was the time he almost burnt down the house making dinner." Lita added.
"The chicken." Orym laughed quietly.
"He ruined half the flower garden training once." Nel sniffled. "Then he ruined it again picking ones for you."
"There was the time you two went stargazing and he didn't think to tell us." Maeve laughed. "We all thought you two had run off in the middle of the night until we found you both dead asleep in the grove."
"First time you sparred, he almost knocked you unconscious with the wooden sword. Didn't want to spar for a week after that." Derrig added, with nods from Nel.
And the stories keep going. Their first date, ruined by the rain. The first time Will took Orym home and all the sisters doted on him, asking him all sorts of things. Will proposing before Orym had a chance to. They're all teary again as Orym jumps in.
"One of the dates—I think the one before the stargazing—we just sat and talked for the longest time and we started talking about what we would do if we got married and what would happen in the future and where we would—" A broken sob is wracked from the halfling, torn from somewhere deep inside of him as he talks. "—where we would go after we got married and what he'd wear and what everything would look like—and where we would go if we ever decided to leave the Blades—he went on about seeing everything and anything—"
"—Oh, Orym." Nel quietly moved beside him as he broke down into tears.
"And now we never will." He sobbed.
"I know, darling."
And the fact is that Orym knows too. It's come crashing far too hard and far too fast and he's falling into the fact that Will is gone much more than he ever truly wants to.
And yet, he'll be caught. Although Will may be gone, his family is not.

Following threads. Dark fey influences. Members of the Cerberus Assembly. Power players in Marquet. One month out from trouble. Stay the course?
The words come through as Keyleth sits in the garden after a meeting. They're not from anyone she's ever heard before, but she knows who they're from. This is not good. Not what she expected, either.
"I thank you for the message, whoever you are. This is disconcerting news. Stay the course carefully. I'll pull threads on my end. Stay safe."
Keyleth takes a breath, steeling herself in the comfort of the garden. She is going to need help.

Whenever Ashton gets a migraine from his powers or his head, each Hell has their own little way of helping.
If they're inside for the day, Imogen sets up the Dancing Lights around the room to keep it just lit enough for everyone else without making the headache worse.
Fearne uses her Ice Knife as an ice pack for when he needs it, and keeps a small mix of flowers to smell when it gets bad.
Orym keeps Gust handy if a smell gets particularly bad, but can Druidcraft little flowers to smell if Ash needs it.
Laudna is particularly handy with her Ray of Frost if a lot of things hurt, but tends to just keep anyone trying to interact with Ash away by simply being a little scary to them.
FCG tends to be avoided by Ash at all costs unless it gets incredibly bad. Then the aeormaton finds them.
Chetney is like a non-magical Laudna. Scary when someone gets close, but checks in every so often to make sure they're still doing okay.

My #1 post of 2022
If someone tried, the blend of anticipation, tension and pure worry could be cut with a knife across the small room in Pike's home.
They are so close to getting Laudna back. Well, hopefully. The threat of Delilah reappearing still looms over their head, a darker presence among them.
"Everlight, please bring these friends together."
Orym blooms the brightest poppies to frame Laudna's face, the bright red against the inky expanse of her hair and pale frame.
And FCG tries, their attempt at compelling her back into reality fading to the edges of whatever magical energy is working its charm.
And Imogen tries, tears running down her face, terrified of losing her again.
And there's a collective release of breath as the Hells find Laudna amongst them again.
And she's in Whitestone, but it feels more like home than before. Like some sort of dream, rather than a nightmare.

Dancing on the air

Little Orym practising the Zeph'aeratam with his (very) big semi-adopted sister Lita. What he yet lacks in skill he makes up for in zen.
Orym is the cutest when he's completely oblivious to how small he is (which is practically always).
