yall im so normal abt them i promise i-

if i get one “um actually Brennan said he grabbed them from behind-” ill throw a fit

things that got me in the finale:

• “nothing can happen to you”

• chirp and her daughter being in the same pose despite being on two different planes and her bowing to her daughter.

• wuvvy

• the entirety of ruehob’s last exchange. all of it.

• “you didn’t just survive. you led the revolution that changed everything. and just as a reminder, i have pledged fealty to you.”

• “do you go to see binx at any point?”/“at any point? it’s immediate.

• “you are welcome in my home, always.”

• “for the rest of our existence, any time you are scared, i will reassure you.”

• “the kiss is received and returned immediately and above both of us, and above both of us a late spring cloud forms, and starts to rain.”

• “we have so much to experience together.”

Finding out that Rue broke off the engagement of Apollo and Grabalba has OBVIOUSLY got us all going insane but I am thinking so hard about one, teeny tiny moment. When Rue says something along the lines of "Was Apollo in love? Was Grabalba?"

Because what I think of is the very first episode, in the first scene where we see Hob at the goblin Rumpus. Where Grabalba sits next to the fire, despondently burning the petals of golden peonies. A symbol of Apollo.

Whether or not Grabalba "loved" Apollo, this was clearly something that crushed her. To her, she had been dismissed and scorned as a disgusting creature of the Goblin Court.

And Rue seemingly... dismisses that? Yes, they did not see the scene at the Rumpus, they couldn't have known the actual turmoil Grabalba was facing over this. But they clearly didn't ask her either. They just assumed on her behalf that she would either be glad to be freed of a political marriage or that their own philosophy of what constitutes true love supercedes anything that she might be upset over.

And it also kind of dismisses Hob a little bit too! That marriage was made because of his efforts in war, and the Masquerade ep (among many other things) shows that he is deeply affected by his time in the military. Rue says "take care of yourself" though many of his sacrifices were made null and void because of their actions. And it was okay because it was for love.

I think this WHOLE situation has so many facets to look at in terms of class. Rue has never felt at home in the Court of Wonder, was literally taken in as a dancing bear and only seemed to experience any form of acceptance when the Chorus wanted to silence them, put them behind a mask. But they also have so much more political sway than almost any other PC at the table until the final act. Andhera has only recently stepped out from behind his pillar and into his role as Unseelie prince, Binx was hiding in the identity of the little sister of a much more important figure, and even the Lords of the Wings were having to bear the brunt of Grandfather and Rue's conflicting demands.

Rue's ideals are righteous and true, they are objectively correct. But they so desperately want to live in a world where love trumps political machinations that they have put themself into a fantasy where their actions only hurt the system and not the individuals of it.

the goblin court. thats it just the goblin court.

"There's nowhere to run now, there's no place to go. The hunt is cast and ready"

i'm sorry but Hob folding the letter instead of eating it is killing me

because at the beginning of this campaign, Hob's only desire was to fulfill orders. he is a blunt instrument. he doesn't get to have personal wants and wishes, and even if he did he wouldn't fulfill them

and then Rue comes along. and Hob's worldview is shattered, because all of a sudden there's something happening that makes him question every foundation he's built, everything he's depended on for so long, and the worst part is although it scares him... he craves it. he wants it to happen, even though he knows he's not supposed to

The day of the hunt- Rue leaves him this momento, this feather, this physical proof that something is changing. Hob can't process these emotions- he's not even supposed to be feeling them- but he knows that whatever this is, it is good- he wants it. he wants it so dearly. he wants this undeniable proof that something is happening as close to him as possible- he eats the feather

the night of the ball- he was not going to approach Rue. he was not going to approach Rue. And then in a flurry of fear and panic and instinctual reactions, he ends up right next to the person who is becoming his undoing. he doesn't know what it is about Rue that makes him come apart at the seams, that shifts the way he sees the world and makes him question every part of himself that has been so certain for so long. but it doesn't matter anyway- Rue doesn't feel the same way- how could they- so whatever this ridiculous, terrible wonderful feeling is, he can't act on it. even though he wants to more than anything in the world. but he can't help it- it's just one dance, it won't hurt anything. one night of happiness. and rue's card is blank. and so is his own. and rue actually signs it- claims him, even if just for one night. and hob cannot believe he has this physical sign that he is wanted, even if just for a little while- he eats the dance card

and then there's the letter, and hob is snapped back to reality. whatever dream last night was, it's over now. he's a fool for expecting that moment of happiness to be anything more than one magical night. he is a blunt instrument. he exists to be used. he's allowed these stupid emotions to break down his walls and he's hurting, but there's nothing he can do. this letter is tearing down any hope he might have had, reminding him that his life is not his own. he has worked his way to his position by serving, and he will continue to serve those who need him.

but it hurts. maybe he's been denying himself the truth, maybe he's simply not allowed himself to think about it. and now, here is solid proof, an ever-present reminder that his desires are secondary- they shouldn't even exist. that perfect night happened, but now it is over. he should not expect to gain more than that one gift. he places it in a prominent spot in his tent, a place he sees often, because this letter reminds him of all he should not and cannot attain.

Oh and another thing!

Hob hears an explosion and his first thought is to protect Rue.

Hob, who has always thought of duty first. Who is a military man, who literally fought for and amongst the goblins. Who is specifically here with the duty to protect the Goblin royal retinue.

Fireworks go off and trigger a deeply ingrained combat response. His mind shouts DANGER and he leaps into action before he's capable of thinking. He acts only on instinct.

After years, probably decades, of training himself to protect the Goblin court, that should be his knee jerk instinct.

But after DAYS of knowing Rue, their safety is Hob's ONLY instinct
