i think the most annoying thing about starting to apply for stuff after so long is i really can't talk to anyone irl about it because people like my aunt just go 'well do you think you'll EVER do hair AGAIN???' and it's like... i never said i wasn't doing hair anymore

like i never said that

it's not like i just left doing hair because i didn't want to do it anymore, there was a fucking pandemic, and my dad being unwell, my brother dying, and a shady employer

and now i'm fuckin.... idk. i wish i had the confidence to just jump right back into it, but i don't. i just don't. i don't feel like the past couple years made me totally unable to talk to people or anything, just... it really threw everything i'd built up in myself through a loop and tossed me back to square one. i really went from feeling like i'd overcome a lot of negative shit towards myself to feeling like i was too useless to even cook a meal properly half the time.

so the thought of jumping right back into something that, while i love the *work*, would put me in a position of faking a smile every day and pretending i know how to interact on a level more than polite have a good days with actual authority. and i just... don't know if i have that in me yet.

it's also really hard when things like my skin have been worse these past couple years than since i was a teenager. it's fucking "beauty" and when i feel like shit about myself every time i look in the mirror and can't even cake on makeup without it looking off, it's hard to encourage other people to feel good about themselves. like it fucking sucks. being more aware of my teeth situation than i ever was before *fucking sucks*. i've always struggled to feel like i belong in the industry at all, so being at a low point in that regard also just makes it really hard to jump back in.

like... if it happens, it happens. and maybe i'll regret not making the jump sooner. tbh i'm not expecting much from this stupid gas station, not even a call really. so i might just have to try for more shitty salons anyway.

i wish i could just say 'it's just anxiety! do it anyway! it'll be fine!' but i just can't shake the 'i'm just not quite *there* yet' feeling in my gut.
