Today, 145 years ago, Princess Alice of Hesse (née Great Britain and Ireland) died of Diptheria 🖤🕊️

 “Alice and the doctors nursed the family round the clock. On the morning of 16 November, Marie choked to death from the membrane covering her throat. Her mother, awakened by the doctors, hurried to the nursery, only to find her daughter dead. Alice sat by her daughter's body, kissing Marie's face and hands, trying to work up the strength to tell her ill husband. She watched as Marie's coffin was wheeled off to the family mausoleum. For weeks, Alice concealed Marie's death from the other sick children, who asked about her and tried to send their little sister oys. Elisabeth, who had been sent to stay with her paternal andmother, was the only child who escaped infection. The sick children were finally told at the beginning of December that Marie had died. Ten-year-old Ernst-Ludwig first refused to believe the news and then broke down in tears. His mother hugged and kiss him, despite the risk of infection. On 7 December Alice recognize the symptoms of diphtheria in herself. She died on the morning 14 December, murmuring "From Friday to Saturday -- four week-- May -- dear Papa." Alice was interred beside her daughter.”

A tiny species of wingless fly, the Antarctic Midge is not only the only species of insect found in Antarctica but also the largest purely terrestrial animal on the continent, despite being only around 2-7mm (0.08-0.3 inches) in length - every larger animal is either capable of flight or semi-aquatic. Found mainly in coastal regions of the continent, this species spends most of its life in a larval form and is active only during the relatively warm spring and summer, spending the winter in hibernation underground. Antarctic Midge larvae feed on detritus, algae, mosses and large single-celled organisms and can survive in temperatures of as low as −15 °C (5°F), with temperatures above 10°C (50°F) being potentially fatal to them. At around 2 years of age the larvae develop into wingless, flightless adults that gather in enormous mating congregations during the spring and summer (similarly to the mating swarms seen in flying midge species), shortly after which females produce large clusters of eggs which they coat in a gelatinous substance secreted from their ovipositor that acts as a sort of antifreeze to prevent ice from forming, and also provides a source of nutrients for the larvae once they hatch around 40 days later. Adult Antarctic Midges typically die within just 10 days of reaching adulthood.

"This year's Christmas game is CHRISTMAS BINGO." Rakuyo announced at breakfast, standing on the table. "For those of you, who haven't played it with this family before, here's how it goes. Izo, Haruta and I have made bingo cards, all are the same. The theme is Spot the thing and with that we mean like, spot the blue elf. You have to find it and write down where it is. There are 75 prizes in total. It's free to join and I will announce over the intern den dens whenever there's bingo. The game officially starts at 10 am, so you have time to do some spotting. The 'O' in bingo is not filled out yet. I will provide the first item at 10 am, the next at 11 am, the third at 2 pm, the fourth at 3 pm and the fifth at 4 pm. That way, everyone has a fair chance to get bingo. I wish you all good luck." He proceeded to explain the rules in detail. 

"The kitchen staff and the medical staff get an extra gift for our services. We don't participate in the Christmas game for that reason either, even if it's our day off." Thatch explained to Ace and Deuce, as he noticed they were about to ask about it. 

"That sounds perfectly fair." Ace hummed and Deuce nodded, happy that he wasn't left out, because he had a shift that day. 

With a pen in his hand and a bingo card in the other, Ace strolled around the ship. He had a plan and seeing everyone else walking around with a pen and bingo card, he knew everyone was probably thinking the same. Spot as many of the items already listed, before the announcement of the other items. 

It kind of felt like a treasure hunt and Ace was enjoying himself. He was accompanied by Skull and Saber, which made it more fun and they helped Ace with the items he didn't know what was. In the end, Skull got a prize for two rows, Ace for three and Saber got a full bingo. However, the biggest prize for Ace was the fun and learning more about Christmas items.

Bistahieversor, a tyrannosauroid dinosaur, differs from other tyrannosaurs in that it possesses 64 teeth, an extra opening above the eye, a keel along the lower jaw, and a complex joint at its forehead, among other unique traits. The dinosaur, discovered in 1990, was originally thought to be an Aublysodon, then a new species of Daspletosaurus, before being assigned its own species, Bistahieversor sealeyi, in 2010.
