I will never fill my home with icons of m*n. I will never kneel before a lord, I will never pray to a father. My house will one day be filled with images of the Mother Earth and Grandmother Sky and our Sister Moon. Spirals and circles and stars and yonis will be my symbols, womyn will be my religion. There will be no penances, no hell to fear nor heaven focused upon as distant reward. Life will be celebrated in all facets. The body will be held as the most sacred thing, as the small version of our vast world. The Goddess blesses all who love Her as She is pure Love.

Remember, Our Lady has conquered the underworld and smashed the gates of hell. There is no place into which Her light does not shine. No matter the depths of darkness, pain, and despair you find yourself in, know that She can and will find you to take your hands and lead you into the world of light. You are not lost, She has found you.

The Hesiodic tradition holds that Hestia was born of her mother first of all the Olympians, but that she and her siblings were swallowed by their father, so that when Zeus rescues them from the depths, Cronus disgorges them in reverse order, putting Zeus—the youngest—at the proverbial top of the hierarchy. By all rights, Hestia is the true heir of creation, but instead she is relegated to a place of obscurity, and we see that she is conspicuously lacking in myths and titles when compared to her extravagant family. Cronus’s atrocity in devouring his children signals a reversal of the natural order of things. However, she was said to receive first and last honors in any household rites, and she may well have been the preeminent god of the family, as sacrifices great and small were eventually consumed by her hearth-fires. Worship begins at home, after all.

Hello Hellenic polytheists, deanists, pagans in general, and anybody else interested! I run Awful & Lovely, a submission-based online shrine to the Greco-Roman goddess Aphrodite/Venus. This blog was inspired by a 2017 Getty Villa project-- the museum hosted a shrine to Venus where visitors could leave prayers, wishes, and gifts for the goddess.
In the spirit of the original project, this blog is meant to be both a resource for Aphrodite worshipers to leave offerings, as well as being a unique experience for non-pagans. The blog hasn't gotten much traffic since I started it, but with so many Aphrodite/Venus devotees on this site, I feel like a lot of you would get good use out of it, so I'm blazing this post to try and get the word out. Please take a moment to drop by the blog, and maybe leave a word of praise for the "beautiful and comely" goddess!

Altars
I remember somebody asking me to show my families home altar. When i asked my Grandmother, she was not too keen on it. So I asked her if I could show you guys the smaller altars and statues that lay around our house, and she agreed.
I’ll also be sharing some of my siblings personal altars, since they don’t care if others see them.
( @beastcpu )
(fair warning, we have quite a bit, since we live in a rather large farmhouse. i’ll only be posting my personal favorites at this moment)
(also, most of the altars you’ll see here picture a statue of the Virgin Mary. That’s just how we as a family like to portray our Mother. when i show my siblings altars you might see more diversity based on how She appears to them.)
(ok sorry this will be my last note but i just want everyone to have full context lol. in my house we have this little thing where when you pass a statue you should reverence towards it. even if it’s just a little head nod, or make the 5-pointed-star over our hearts, or a full on 90 degree bow. most of us don’t reverence towards every statue or altar, only ones that we feel the most drawn to or called to reverence)

^ this is one of the first things you’d see when you walk into our home. when i walk in it seems to remind me to thank Her for bringing me back safely, so i do.
Tumblr media
^ one of my favorites because She looks so lovely here. i like to give Her reverence every time i pass Her.
Tumblr media
^ here She is on my sisters vanity. usually my sister has a little candle lit at Her feet or some little candy for Her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ this is a little table in the hallway where our rear entrance is. my family has gotten this funny little habit where we place our keys on the table for Her to watch over. we like to reverence Her when we’re leaving the house and i always ask for Her protection and blessings while i’m gone. a few of us reverence when we return to the house as well.
Tumblr media
^ My younger brothers altar. he wanted me to tell you all that although he’s not the best at keeping up personal devotional time, or offering Her things, he likes to keep a fresh flower by Her feet. in his words: “i don’t know, i guess i just want Her to know that i haven’t forgotten about Her.”
Tumblr media
^ although he doesn’t live at home my older brother sent my mother this photo a while back and i’ve asked him if i could share it and he agreed.
Tumblr media
^ the last one i’ll be sharing today is my older sisters. this is her pride and joy because she spent tons of time going through thrift stores looking for everything lol. her favorite things to offer Her are fruits.
and that’s all :) i hope you all enjoyed this, and my siblings send you all many blessings. they want for you guys to know that they hope you will recognize that there are many shapes and forms the Goddess comes to us individually, and we should honor Her based on our individual experiences.

Are any Filianist/Madrian/Deanists willing to share how they came to/found that religion?
The religion my sisters and I practice is far closer to that than the mostly Wicca (and Wicca based) traditions that those we share a community with follow, and I know there is a greater call for these more devotional paths in those spaces. I’m hoping to develop a better understanding of the needs of devotional Goddess religion seekers and devotees, and I know the Filianist community has a lot of valuable perspectives on that.

Happy New Year!
Our Lady has gone down into that darkest place, has suffered and been broken, and She has triumphed! No soul shall be lost forever, no soul shall suffer in any eternal hell.
The world is fresh and new, reborn by Her Hand and flush with Divine Light and energy. And so today is the first day of spring, and also of a new year!
The Filianic Eastre is not dissimilar from its Christian (Easter) and neopagan (Ostara) counterparts, or from many springtime festivities around the world. Dancing, music, egg games & dyeing, flowers everywhere, and a big feast with plenty of dessert.
3344 (I.E.), is a year of Sai Thame, Janya of divine law and harmony. The year itself, as well as each month and week of the Filianic calendar will begin on Thamedi / Thursday, until next Eastre.
And the children of the earth cried: Lift up your voices in song and laughter, for the Princess of the World was dead and is alive again, was broken and is whole; and there is no place whereto Her joyous rule does not extend. Give praise to the Mother of All Things and praise to Her Daughter. Rejoice, for the world is renewed.

The Goddess made uncountable numbers of flowers and animals and rocks and rivers, why on Earth would you believe there's only one way to be a woman? Our home is big enough to house tough women and soft women and funny women and smart women. Just as the Earth houses a plethora of beings, you too house a plethora of attributes. She Who created all things cannot be pigeonholed, why would you?

Aphrodite, we see, is constantly attended by the Horæ, the seasons, and she, like Hera, is herself a seasonal goddess. She is not, in our sense, virginal, but a korê, a maiden, she assuredly is in her eternal youth and radiance. Perhaps the best title for her is Nymphê, Bride. The ancients, in their wisdom, saw that virginity was not a virtue to be lost once for all, but a grace to be perennially renewed. Aphrodite is a bride of the old order, she is never wife, she can never tolerate permanent patriarchal wedlock. Her will is always turned toward love rather than marriage. Myths of Greece and Rome, by Jane Harrison, [1928]

i feel like a lot of time people have this idea that you absolutely need an altar to connect with the Goddess. i think this isn’t exactly true. while an altar can be important in certain aspects, not having one doesn’t have to make you feel like a fake worshipper or ‘separated’ from Her.
remember, She is everywhere. She is in everything. you are never separated from Her because She is in you and with you and around you. when you wash the dishes say Her name as a mantra: She is there. when you sit outside basking in the sunlight, feeling warm and safe, that is Her. when you help out at a soup kitchen and spread love, She is the love you spread.
try to find ways to connect with her that you enjoy and are safe. listen to goddess chants, play music for Her, pray, meditate, anything at all. She is the All-Sufficient. the All-Merciful. never think She will not be with you even if you can’t have an altar for whatever reason.
Many blessings to you all.
