A Different Parent Trap by @hectatess
It was an absolute joy and pleasure to illustrate @hectatess sweet little tale of fatherhood, love and friendship~ below is the banner piece.
The sweet story follows the friendship between Claire and Emma. Claire’s excitement to help Emma feel better and a part of something is what drew me to it~ she enlists the help of Emma’s father, Dean, to assist her own father, Cas, in her quest. These two humble fathers throughout this story also have their own dynamic which you can watch bud and bloom as the story unfolds!
For the main art piece I was set fully on the moment Dean takes Cas and the kids to the drugstore to help Cas find the products he needs for Claire’s hair. The giddy glee on both children reflect the joy I felt in adding all those tiny little details like Dean’s no.1 dad necklace! (Dean’s leather coat hatching did slowly burn through my soul however)

This is my art masterpost for this year's @dadstielminibang brought to you by our fantastic mods @hawkland, @haus-seeblick & @tsujiharu! I was lucky enough to claim one of the most amazing concepts a.k.a. an artist's wet (ha!) dream by the super talented tiamatv: Merman!Dean and Cecaelia!Cas! 😍
TIA, WE DID IT! or should I say, we're FINished? 😏😂 (Many more fishy puns and ocean lingo can be found in the fic itself - and let me just say, I never thought it was possible to execute this SO flawlessly. Tia's knowledge of everything undersea literally blew me away and makes for such a witty and hilarious reading experience, all while keeping our boys perfectly in character. I salute you, my friend! 🥰)
I had such a great time getting to know Tia, making her write ocean smut xD and figuring out a) the look of the fishy boys and b) my very first mini animation. Unfortunately I can only post the gif in low quality on Tumblr, but you'll find a better looking one in the fic ☺️

"Like a Duck, He Fits the Bill"
My art masterpost for the 2023 round of the @dadstielminibang, a bang themed around one of the softest, most cute, and (imo) best remedial troupes to read. Made possible by the wonderful mods @hawkland, @haus-seeblick, and @tsujiharu!
I had the honor of drawing a few scenes for my author, @golby-moon's very sweet Claire POV fic, which is set mostly in post-canon revolving the relationship Claire has towards her not-quite Dad but Dad. Golby has a way with words that cozy up right next to your heart, but also think "Wow. Claire would definitely do that". Also features Claire, Kaia, and a bit of love for our favorite dummies(Destiel ofc). Please go show them lots of love on Ao3!

Foundling by @bleuzombie
This is my art post for the Dadstiel Minibang! I was paired with @bleuzombie who wrote a wonderful story about fae creature Cas raising Jack, full of sweet moments and overcoming the fear of being other.
This is the banner I came up with, I wanted to lean into the sort of children's book style that sort of emerged when I was playing with the colours on my art piece. I actually spent a stupid amount of time trying to get the names to look right hand lettered but eventually I gave up and just used a text box. I was deeply regretting picking such a long url. Bleu's name fit perfectly but mine always ended up looking like cramped mess.
And here is the piece itself! I was so excited to be able to design a monstery looking Cas and I'm hoping I did it justice. I had a lot of sketches that I played around with before I settled on a concept. This scene is from the beginning of the fic, when Cas finds Jack abandoned outside his cave and decides to keep him.
And some close ups:
I got experimental with the lighting and colours in a way I don't normally, but I felt satisfied with the result. I'm especially proud of baby Jack because I don't usually draw babies and I was sure he was gonna come out looking weird. I looked up so many reference images of tiny hands and feet.

"All These New Beginnings" for the @dadstielminibang

This was my second collaboration with @ladyknightskye this summer - what can I say, I'm always drawn to unique Cas ships and creative canon divergence stories, and what could have been more unique than one featuring Cas with Becky? Plus Cas as God, but not in the way we got it in canon.
It was strange, feeling complete for the first time in a long time. Castiel looked down at Dean, the broken Righteaous Man weeping on his knees. He reached out, compelled to heal what had been hurt. Dean looked up at him, his green eyes liquid and soft. “Cas, are you God?”
The story starts out with a canon moment, but with an unexpected twist to it. I wanted to do a piece that reflected Cas beginning to come into his full power and understanding at that moment, hence the wings, the halo and the light effects which were added on digitally afterwards. This is the untouched watercolor version:
This was done very large scale (16x20) on hot press paper to give it the sharper, flatter look I like when going for a religious-themed SPN work. Those wings alone took me several days and about three layers of paint to get the glow and color I wanted for them (note that the shading is actually the same on both wings, but I used interference/shift colors that created the shadowy effect based on the lighting when I took the photo. Pretty fun, that!)
His sister had been amused. She twisted and slithered through the Cosmos, her tendrils pushing the newly created matter apart as it expanded outwards. She became the dark matter that filled the voids in the Cosmos, black holes the price Castiel agreed to pay her.
I always enjoy a chance to do some abstract/astronomical watercolor work for a story and this description of Amara's dark energy interweaving with God's creation jumped out to me. I used a lot of different techniques on it from adding flow medium to splattering masking fluid, and then a final glitter varnish coat to create depth and more stars in the far distance.

a look a fic for the @dadstielminibang that I stole and promptly dumped art all over
got to draw lots of new things in this bang, from mallets to whac-a-mole machines to a carnival-style tarp for the fair thing. I found some fancy carnival-y font online that I can't remember the name of and traced over that for the title text; never would've gotten it anywhere near consistent otherwise. idk why the title has lights around it really, I just like it
I've never done anything quite like this one before with the characters on the sides like that and I'm not quite sure why I did it now, I just pictured it. I think it's due to the emphasis the claims info placed on the scene in which they first meet, their dynamic-influenced eyes locking from a distance until Dean approaches in his flannel that I spent way too much time on (and was designed to sorta reflect the 'Cas' color (blue) while Cas' shirt reflects the 'Dean' color (green)). Claire is naturally very suspicious and Jack has no idea what's happening
talking things out scene, in which I force myself to attempt to draw a shoe bench (which I've never heard of before this) and used the opportunity to dress Cas up like a dorky professor for his date with Dean and Claire like an angsty pre-teen that thinks that double sleeves thing is cool (it's not) (please don't look too closely at the proportions in this, especially around the legs uh)
upon making a sketch for this one, I was really dreading trying to figure out how to draw this one and very strongly considered just covering everybody up with multiple blankets and calling it a day because ghkjfgjkfgjkfg posing gjfkfg. it ended up being not nearly as bad as I thought. there's no particular significance in the colors or anything and I basically just picked whatever, although Jack's strawberry-themed pajamas' colors were picked on purpose. the author gave the idea to make Dean's clothes ones that he borrowed from Cas instead of Generic Grey Sweatpants like I was originally gonna do because Dean is Repressed, so he gets flowers to match Cas' bees ,_,
finally, after rambling wayy too much about all the art I buried my author with, here's the divider I did (that I kept calling 'page break thingy' up until the end where I accidentally learned its actual name). I've never done a divider before and wanted to give it a shot. it includes a mallet from the fair thing and a Lego spaceship as well as a bundle of flowers and a 'death lantern' (which is used to protect the candle apparently, another thing I learned about while doing the art for this fic). I tried to emphasize both the past and the present by adding two elements from both, but idk if I did that very well tbh. either way, an attempt was made

Moonlight on the Water, Sunlight in the Sky: Art Masterpost
Here’s my first collab for the @dadstielminibang. I claimed @nickelkeep's amazing Purgatory fic Moonlight on the Water, Sunlight in the Sky and got to create art for it.
(My own story will go up tomorrow, btw.)
While I didn't have as much time as I would have wanted for the banner (due to other projects), I spent the last week on painting the main piece. It's such a beautiful scene in Nickel's fic, and I knew I had to draw it when I first read it. I tried to capture the eerie Purgatory feeling and the desaturated colours.
