Another day of dogs! Some notes:

You might remember that Groen; I actually met him as a younger puppy at a semi-recent show! He's gotten a lot more mature since.

I might have posted Tessa (Circlecity Tabloid Tease) when she was a puppy, too - I met her when she was a wee baby. She's enormous now by comparison!

Ty did beautifully this weekend. I'm pretty sure he finished - I'll have to double check. No love for Nochka but I think he's the prettiest boy. Wish I'd gotten a picture of the Borzoi puppy there today, my heart just melted!

Realized I never posted here! We added a new pup to our home. Her name is Cinder, and she is a tamaskan dog.

Tamaskans are a breed of dog that is bred to look like wolves. They typically have low or no wolf content. The breed is young and still in development, and is managed by the ITR in Europe, and the TDR here in the US.

Tamaskans not registered through either of these groups are likely not true tamaskan dogs and are potentially from puppy mills. Only ITR/TDR registered breeders are selling actual tamaskan dogs.

To prevent genetic bottlenecks, outcrosses are still done here in the US fairly frequently.

*Blue eyes are a disqualifying fault in Tamaskan dogs. Cinder has blue eyes and therefore cannot ever be bred, which is fine with us. While I love the breed, I didn’t feel we were in the right place to be contributing in that regard.

**Cinder was an outcross litter that happened before the parents had finished their health tests. Since they did pass, the pups were granted X-tier registration.

The #SaarloosWolfdog and #CzechoslovakianWolfdog are two very similar wolfdog breeds which were created by crossing the German Shepherd with a wolf. But even though similar, thery are not identical and especially the temperament is very different. I started digging through the AKC dog breed list because i don't have my dog reference books with me, but alas, for keralis three breeds stood out for me personally, Italian Greyhound, Papillion, and the Shih Tzu he gives off small dog energy for some reason. but I also found the Czechoslovakian Vlcak as something just absolutley bonkers for your consideration for a potental ren mix (idk i saw it and literally had to sit there like uhh thats a whole ass wolf)

Welp! I have to say I was also torn about Keralis! I could see him being either a small or a big dog! But then I really stopped to think about it, I see Keralis as a very hard-working individual - his builds are massive! He goes so overkill on size and details! And taking his character his season, what kind of dog can u see playing a role of a lumberjack?

So I wouldn't go with Papillion and much less a Shih Tzu since they are lapdogs (although Paps are known for their agility work, Tzu's are very much couch potats lkjsgs). So I'm considering going with something bulkier for him! [also I got two suggestions about making him a husky mix bc of the piercing eyes and I love the idea lsdkgj he does have those irl too after all]

AND THAT IS A WHOLE ASS WOLF HELLOE!!?!? Did a quick search for it and in m language they're just called dog-wolf and I mean YEA! Ren has already been drawn in the au tho! And he is a Wolfdog hybrid! (hybrid with what u might ask.. I like the idea of leaving it vague tbh!) I do want to draw him again for a definitive design since that one was very rough

I name it Coyote as a joke and then spend the rest of its life frustrated that people think it's a literal coyote and eventually dye a dark mask on it so people call it a malinois instead

Ik you’re more the actual wolf dogs guy, but do you know anything about Czechoslovakian vlcaks temperament? Like how trainable they are, how affectionate, how primitive etc. and how they are compared to wolf dogs or maybe other primitive breeds? Def thinking of talking to someone in the breed in person but due to their rarity might take a while which is why I’m asking. Thank you

I've never met one personally. I'd suggest going to meet the breed events or shows where folks are exhibiting them in order to facilitate meeting multiple dogs from different lines
