You have no idea how many antique maps i scoured through to make these drawings. Halfway through it stopped being "collecting references" and it just started being me lost in ancient books and wikipedia pages. I loved every second of it. Did you know that etymologically speaking, the caravel is much closer to the crab than it is to the carrack ? I thought this was interesting.

An illustrated poster to celebrate 100 episodes of Findings from one of my favorite video creators. In a way, this is also a love letter to internet horror stories, keeping me entertained since forever :-)

Oh wow ! More than 2000 followers ? That's a lot - i'm afraid i won't have enough snacks to share with all of you... I think i say it a little too often but tumblr is a website i enjoy a lot - without a doubt my favorite place to post my drawings (so i'm sort of thrilled it's where most of my followers are :D). I read and treasure every tag left on them - you're all too nice and funny :'( Thank you for your likes, reblogs, kind words and slightly unhinged tags - I will most definitely keep on drawing various creatures and things with far too many details :^)

Nostalgia made me watch the One Piece live action - And i loved the ships so much it made me want to draw my own spin on them - inspired by both anime and film, but also by antique portolan charts (and their lovely sea monsters) !

I like to imagine my creatures as little luckbringers - nothing grand, just tiny figures etched on a matchbox, watching over your kitchen - making sure you never burn your fingers or run out of your favorite tea :)

These are all portolan charts (also referred to as portulans / rhumb charts). As the name indicates, they were mostly used to find harbors. My favorite thing about them is that they were richly illustrated, wether it was with ships, portraits or sea creatures. • List of portolan charts by geographical zone • Album of assorted sea monsters picked from various maps :) • Album of assorted ships ! • L'Atlas Miller A masterpiece from portuguese cartographer Lopo Homem dated 1519 - filled to the brim with illustrated creature, people, plants and much more. • Cosmographie Universelle Work of Guillaume Le Testu - privateer, navigator and royal pilot of Le Havre (dated 1556). With 56 illustrated maps, this is the most complete view of the world offered by a portolan chart. Its main peculiarity is to devote a quarter of its plates to a mythical southern continent conceived by the geographers of the 16th century... • Les premières Œuvres From cosmographer and Marine pilot Jacques DeVaulx, dated 1583. A lot of (stunningly drawn) navigation tools and a few maps, with strikingly beautiful ships. I took calligraphy inspiration from this book !

recently finished the live action and it reminded me of watching the anime after school, around 10 years ago... it felt like meeting again with old friends !

gaza has just been completely cut off from the world.

after increased intensity of israeli aistrikes tonight, the last cable providing communications was destroyed. telecommunications have been completely cut off. they cannot reach one another. they cannot reach paramedics. the red crescent society has completely lost contact with their branch in gaza. nobody inside can reach anyone inside, and especially not outside of gaza to tell us what is going on. this is a complete atrocity.
