Baked Goods
@challengingwords Prompt#3 “I baked.” “Really? All I see is destruction.”
Pairing: Choi Youngjae x Reader (ft Coco)
Word Count: 445
Although baking wasn’t your forte’ you decided to be a good fur mum and make a special treat for Coco’s birthday. You had done your research and found a recipe that was both easy and delicious, Coco barking animatedly in response when you showed her the pictures.
“Okay! Let’s get baking!”
You weren’t sure if it was to yourself or her, but you were adamant to make something special, given she was Youngjae’s world and now yours too.
An hour later and you had started to get the hang of it, making your fair share of doggie delicacies. Two trays were currently in the oven, filling the apartment with a wonderful smell, as you mixed the third batch together in the mixing bowl in front of you.
You paused in your mixing when you heard the front door open, Coco immediately whimpering as she scampered to meet Youngjae.
“How are my girls doing?” His voice filled the kitchen as he made his way towards you, Coco in his arms as he patted her affectionately. “What’s Mummy doing?” he continued as he walked around the kitchen bench, leaning forward to kiss you on the cheek.
“I baked.” You replied, smiling triumphantly at your handiwork.
“Really? All I see is destruction.” Youngjae blurted out, pausing momentarily as his eyes took in the scene before him. Drifting from the oven where the cookies were baking to the sink which was now completely piled high with dishes, before stopping on you, entirely covered in flour and other ingredients which had found their way all over your apron. His laughter boomed around the apartment as his eyes landed on you, a small pout forming on your lips at your displeasure in his response.
“Don’t laugh at me!” you announced, stomping your foot in frustration.
“I’m not. You’re adorable you know that?”
“You are!”
Placing Coco on the ground he came up behind you, his arms wrapping around you affectionately as he kissed your neck softly, your attempt at pushing him off failing.
“They smell really good.” He mumbled into your skin, his nose twitching at the smell coming from the freshly baked cookies.
“Thank you but they’re not for you!” you quickly warned, albeit too late as Youngjae snuck a cookie into his mouth. “You’re going to regret that.”
He smiled cheekily, proud of his ability to steal a treat as he began to chew, his eyes growing large as his face filled with disgust the longer he chewed.
“Told you.”
You tried to hold your laughter back, seeing the way his mind processed what he was in fact eating.
“What kind of cookies are these?”
“Dog biscuits. For Coco.”

Cravings
Prompt: “I baked.” “Really? All I see is destruction.” - @challengingwords
Pairing: Shownu x reader
A/N: Decided to post this up to catch up on the CWC prompts. However, this was WEEELLL beyond the < 500 word limit cause...well....it had to be...hehehe. Enjoy a little taste of domestic life with Hyunwoo. ❤❤
-------------
You drove by your neighborhood bakery and caught a good whiff of baked goods in their oven and you craved it…again. You've been craving it at least twice a week for the past three weeks: your grandmother's empanadas. Sadly, she passed years ago so it's not like you can call her up to whip up a batch for you. Even sadder, her empanadas were the most complicated recipe in the recipe book you inherited and you really didn't have the time to tackle it yourself. The last time you made a batch, she had just passed and you were single and on your own without the duties of wife and mother on your plate.
Maybe some time this week, you thought to yourself. You were on your way home after completing your last day before your leave, surely you’ll have some time to satisfy this nagging craving. For now, you had your mind set on sitting on the couch before getting dinner started.
You walked through your door and was putting on your house slippers as you announced your arrival.
“ChangMi,” your heard your husband's, Hyunwoo, voice call from the kitchen, “put that flour back in the cabinet, please.” You heard footsteps pitter-patter around in the kitchen, assuming that she was doing as her father asked. “Eggs back in the fridge,” he continued to instruct as you made your way to the closed kitchen door. You were sliding it open and couldn’t believe your eyes.
“Hi, mama!” your 8 year old daughter greeted as she closed the refrigerator door. She came over and you bent down to give her a kiss, eyes still wide with shock from the sight in front of you. You took in the sink full of pots and pans and the like and flour all over the place as if it snowed somehow and the blizzard was only focused on your kitchen. Hyunwoo was in the middle of wiping down the center island as he smiled at you. So much for sitting on the couch, you thought to yourself.
“Chagiya, you’re home early,” he greeted as he abandoned his cleaning to walk over and give you a kiss.
“Traffic wasn’t that bad coming home today,” you replied still focused on the mess before you, “You want to explain what happened here?”
“I baked!” ChangMi announced proudly.
Hyunwoo chuckled nervously and repeated, “We baked.”
“Really? All I see is destruction,” you said as you closed your eyes and pinched the bridge of your nose.
“We were going to have everything cleaned up before you came home,” ChangMi informed you as she continued the wiping of the counter top her father had started, “You’re not mad, are you?” she asked as she jutted out her bottom lip and all your frustration went out the door.
You smiled, “No, darling. Just tired.” You walked over to her and lovingly patted her head and kissed her forehead. That’s when the scent hit you. That all too familiar scent. Could it be?
“What exactly did you bake?” you asked as your raised an eyebrow towards your husband.
“Well, you’ve been talking about it for almost a month now,” he explained as he sorted out the dirty pots and pans in the sink. It was then that you noticed what had been used in their baking project that was currently in the oven. “We thought we would surprise you on your last day of work before maternity leave.”
You rubbed your 8 month baby bump as your baby boy started to stir inside.
“We followed the instructions as it said in granny’s recipe book,” ChangMi said proudly and wrapped her arms around your swollen waist. That’s when the timer went off. “They’re done!” the little girl exclaimed and went off to the stove. Thankfully, her father beat her there and had the oven mits on to grab the hot tray to place on the now cleaned and cleared center island.
There they were with their golden brown glow and heavenly smell - Grandma’s empanadas. Hyunwoo walked behind you and wrapped his arms around you and rubbed your belly. “Be careful, they’re hot,” he warned as he kissed your cheek. ChangMi placed a small plate and fork in front of you for your use. You placed one on the plate, cut it in half and forked a piece. You blew on the piece before putting it in your mouth. You swear you’ve never tasted something so perfect.
“How is it?” ChangMi looked up intently. You forked another piece and cooled it down before placing it into her mouth.
“It’s just as good as I remember granny’s to be,” you complimented your little chef.
“Is it really?” Hyunwoo questioned. You nodded your head and fed him a piece as well. You took another bite and felt a kick in your tummy against Hyunwoo’s hand. “Oh, looks like we made him happy, too.”
ChangMi came up to your belly and rubbed it too. “I’m glad you’re happy, ChangGun-ah!” she said against it, “We’ll see you soon and as soon as you’re able to eat, I’ll be sure to make you some to taste for yourself.”
You affectionately smoothed out the hair on your little girl’s head as she talked to her brother.
“Oh, no!” you then exclaimed, “I just got another craving.”
“For what?” Hyunwoo asked. You looked over to him and puckered your lips for a kiss. He chuckled as he happily satisfied your newest craving. You smiled into the kiss as your hand caressed his cheek.
“Maybe you should just stay in there and save yourself from all of mama and appa’s mushiness,” ChangMi loudly whispered into your belly. You and Hyunwoo laughed at the comment.
He gave you one last peck. “Go ahead and take your plate into the living room,” he suggested, “When I’m done cleaning, we can go out for dinner. My treat.”
ChangMi cheered and headed for the living room. You gave him a thank you kiss before following suit. It really is blissful when cravings are satisfied.
