All the Colors of the -1/-1 Counter

(Well, 4/5.)

-1/-1 counters are fun, I'm a big fan of them. But they're pretty wildly lopsided in the color pie aren't they? Black can throw them around willy nilly but every other color has to really work for it. You can get some really clever designs out of it when you do do that work though, so let's see what y'all can do.

Design a card that uses -1/-1 counters in a color other than black

Two very important things to keep in mind for this contest:

1: The color pie. Don't give removal to colors that don't get removal. As a general rule of thumb, you can treat -1/-1 counters similarly to damage. If you wouldn't give that color a similar ability using direct damage, it most likely shouldn't be getting -1/-1 counters; blue and green shouldn't be putting them on their opponents stuff since they're supposed to have trouble removing opposing creatures. (They *can* proliferate ones that are already there.) When looking for color pie precedent, keep in mind that there might be a few breaks among existing cards.

2: Annoyingness. -1/-1 counters are ultimately a form of removal, so when making a design that puts them on your opponents' stuff make sure you're not making it *too* difficult for that player to do anything. Same thing when making a design that puts them on your own stuff really, but I tend to find that's less of an issue.

Anything using wither, infect, or persist is totally fine. It's also fine if your card is more of a -1/-1 counter synergy card like Flourishing Defenses, or even a hate card like Vizier of Remedy, just make sure they're called out by name in some way even if it's in reminder text.

90% of all Yugioh card effects are either "move a card from one zone to another" or "negate an effect" so I made a bunch of combat keywords so that monsters can actually be interesting on the field.

#asks #custom cards #also i managed to make them all different subtypes and get exactly 2 of each attribute so that's cool #anyway i'm barely even exaggerating about the 90% thing #“add a card from deck to hand” “special summon a monster” “destroy a card”#so much stuff is just moving cards between zones #and a lot of the rest is just “negate a card/effect” “effects can't target this” “can't be destroyed by effects”#just moving cards around or preventing cards from being moved around #how about actually caring about the battle phase?#yugioh's combat mechanics are really different than magic's so directly translating stuff like menace or haste doesn't work #but the difference also means there's so much opportunity for different abilities like Tricky or Stealthy or Guardian!#some translate fairly well like Vigilance into Resilient and Double Strike into Double Attack #and some are practically 1-to-1 like Deathtouch to Venomous and Trample to Piercing #Assist was an awkward one #the concept is so clear and simple and cool: it lets your monsters team up to attack together!#but mtg's Banding shows how that simple concept can be very difficult to translate into clean rules #even its spiritual successor Enlist had to specify “nonattacking creature without summoning sickness”#which i think is one of the only times that the term “summoning sickness” has appeared on modern cards #yeah i just checked and the only other cards that mention summoning sickness are stuff that involve creature-lands #i went back and forth on how exactly to word it before i decided to go the shortest and cleanest route of “spend this monster's attack”#which is also the most confusing wording if anything remotely unusual happens #heck it's not even clear whether it works while in defense position!#the idea is the same as Enlist: you can only use it if the monster COULD attack #so anything that prevents it from attacking also prevents it from assisting #but honestly if i were in charge i wouldn't even print this keyword because its wording is either too long or too confusing #also the Wrath effect appears on a few existing cards like Flame Wingman and i like it #Piercing also already exists in a kind of pseudo-keyword state #“if this monster attacks a defense position monster inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent”

Last call for homebrewing your 3DS!! I used this guide, which adapts to what your current software version is + your region (the method differs based on these things). It's very easy, all you need is 30 minutes to an hour of free time, a basic understanding of how file explorers work, an internet connection, and an SD card reader if your computer doesn't have an SD slot.

After today, it may become harder to homebrew your 3DS. It will probably not be impossible to do so after the eshop closes, but methods will likely change and there is no guarantee there will be another way available anytime soon.

#however hard you think it may be. i promise it is not as hard as you're fearing #i homebrewed mine and i did encounter a few problems but this guide also has a very in depth troubleshooting section #and all of my problems had detailed solutions that worked immediately #please be aware you should try to have at least 2gb worth of space on your SD card before doing this #you can delete game data and keep save data so you can redownload the games later if you need more space #also note that if you use the software manager tool on the 3DS itself. 128kb = 1 block #yes for some reason the 3ds uses a weirdly arbitrary measure of memory as a holdover from the gamecube. no idk why #if you did it. congrats! you now have the ability to easily put any game ever released onto your 3DS for free!#also you get the ability to use/make custom themes and such which is neat #as well as the ability to screenshot and have save states just like you would when playing a ROMhack on your computer

Today was the most tiring fucking day of work and at least 60% of that is bc of One customer

#speculation nation #someone who orders delivery all the time. they had 2 problems #1: they apparently never got their order yesterday.#and 2: they Say they placed an order today & the boba was really hard #1 was relatively easy to fix (though annoying). i called the delivery company to make sure they got a refund.#2 though. the thing about 2 is that they did not get a fucking order from us today.#i Know bc i was there since we opened. we did not get an order from them today.#but this person swore up and down that they did. said it had our cups and everything.#& they were getting sooo upset. claiming that i thought they were lying.#and i was trying to tell them. 'it's not that i think youre lying. i just promise you. you did not get boba from us today.'#so if they Did get an order. where the fuck did it come from?#i thought they maybe had accidentally ordered from another place. but they Swore it had our cups.#so next theory was that maybe the order that disappeared yesterday got delivered today?#it would explain why the boba was hard bc boba doesnt keep. but also why the FUCK would the delivery company do that lmao #in the end the customer was getting soooo upset. literally crying over the phone.#not bitching at me. just like genuine distress.#so i was just like 'i dont know what happened & i cant really refund something that doesnt show up in our system #But i can give you store credit to use later'#so i made a gift card for them to pick up later. bc in the end i just wanted them to shut the fuck up.#at that point it all boils down to appeasement. and appease i did.#what really fucking gets me. is how fucking upset they were getting. GENUINE distress #and i was just like 'im sorry things went wrong. how can i fix this?' 100% even tone & just trying to help #but they were so upset bc they couldnt find the receipt from the order today (allegedly) & just. genuine crying over the phone #and i was just like. rolling my eyes all the way back in my head #like for fuck's sake. i get being upset about it but let's talk about it like adults shall we?#im not your fucking therapist Much less your friend. i just work here. im not here to fucking Console you over some messed up orders #i sympathize with you. i do! but literally just talk with me about how we can fix this.#i dont want to hear you break down crying over fucking. bubble tea.#like maybe that's harsh but FUCK it was so aggravating #but like a good little assistant manager i didnt let that show 😊. just. fuck im so done with it all.

The white and green cards were inspired by selesnya and simic. And THEN I realized that if I'm making 2 version of the maximize cycle, I should probably finish off with another red-blue pair:

I thought about making cards that more closely play off of the guilds, but I think 8 is probably enough 1-drop jump-start sorceries for now

lies down. I woke up yesterday to a $600 water bill, which is, needless to say, a hideous amount to be charged for anything not to mention completely absurd considering I live alone, only shower every other day, and have been in korea for 3 of the 8 weeks in that billing period

so after despairing I called the water company today now that it's no longer a federal holiday and the very friendly lady on the other end of the call was like "oof yeah dude that's not right" and helpfully informed me that it's likely that I have a leak and that I just need to get it fixed and send them a form and they'll credit me for the amount I overpaid

god bless customer service representatives y'all are the real MVPs

#the thing I hate about making phone calls are the stupid phone trees and also being put on hold for 1 million years to annoying music #that sounds like it's being blasted out of a phonograph that was rescued from the site of a shipwreck that took place in the 1890s #I love being able to talk to live humans who are able to solve my problems right way #to that end. huge sideeyes to the clipper card customer service center who I also called today to ask about a $200 refund that I am due #who transferred me TWICE and still ended up telling me ''yea idk that department is real backed up we don't know when your request is going #to be processed either shrugs'' like homegirl it has been THREE MONTHS since I sent my inquiry #can you PLEASE tell that department to get their shit together or take some accountability maybe #anyway this is a PSA to anyone dealing with an overwhelming bill. always call to ask about it bc there may be a way out of it #cam thoughts

Today is going to drive me absolutely fucking insane

#fell asleep on the couch last night and family was up at like 4-5am making a bunch of noise to get to airport so sleep quality was trash #got up early but was still fucking late to work bc all my uniform masks decided to fucking vanish #lots of customers who have apparently never fucking bought anything in their lives and needed handheld through how to press #the giant goddamn skip button in the middle of the card reader's tip prompt #halfway to the cafe i realized i forgot my wallet but didn't want to waste even more of my break going back so just took the gamble on #whether I'd had enough saved on loyalty card for a free drink. which i did so that's good but they were busy and it was the barista's first #couple days back from summer so they got my drink completely wrong. and then there was not one (1) open table in the entire shopping center #so am now on a bench outside it trying to eat while being harassed by flies with the wrong tea and no boba and barely any of my break left.#and also toothache has gotten so much fucking worse i can barely think through the pain. ffs someone just put me out of my misery pls lol #and the dentist still won't fUCKING aNSWER
