Now my story starts aaaaaalll the way back to the year 2010, I was age 5 in my daycare/pre-school. Now my time in that daycare has many many many stories, but i will not be talking about those at the moment. Now as a child i did not enjoy nap time at daycare. I was not able to sleep thanks to my ADHD, so instead I was allowed to stay up and like draw or play with toys and stuff. At this daycare, maybe at many more I've only been at the one, they had highschool interns working there and helping the main teachers take care of and control the little children.

There was one high schooler who, instead of just making me draw, she would take me to the office and watch youtube, and majority of the youtube videos were miku music videos. As a little 5 year old i was automatically hooked, to the point to where I would beg our roommates (we lived with another family for a large part of my life) to let me use their computer so I could keep watching more and more videos over and over all day long.

Now through the years I stopped watching many of the videos mostly because i was scared people would think i was weird for watching them so in middle school i basically fully stopped and ended my love for miku.

up until high school in my freshman year where i came across a random miku video and decided to click on it....

I was then hooked again.

i kept it a big secret however, not even telling my close friends.

near the end of highschool i kinda stopped again mostly because i was going through a whole lot and i just really could't watch much things anymore so I had a small break.

Recently i've been falling back into miku and its been awesome and i now remember why i loved her so much. I cannot stop wathcing videos and listening to songs and once i have money i will spend it all on plushes and figures!

I also knew the game launching yesterday would not be including the cooperative element and would instead be a pared down release, only featuring the newly updated multiplayer with a few additional playable characters and an updated monetization system.

Well, dear reader, I have played Overwatch 2. And honestly, I'm having a good time with it despite the icky feeling I get every time the Blizzard logo pops up on my screen. And every time the game prompts me to get the battle pass. And every time a challenge completion popup tells me I've earned enough in-game currency to maybe buy a cool cosmetic in eight to ten months if I can keep this pace up. I think this switch from a game riddled with loot boxes to a free-to-play game honing in on a seasonal battle pass is really the biggest takeaway here, because it shifts the entire focus of play as much as it does the business model of those making it.

I've done a bit of digging in the more hive-mindy parts of the internet and the prevailing sense in the Overwatch community is that the loot boxes were better than the current monetization path. As of this writing there is literally a post towards the top of the Overwatch subreddit with the title "I miss loot boxes" which is frankly wild as hell. The truth is that loot boxes were predatory and problematic enough to literally get outlawed by multiple governments around the world. It is also simultaneously true that the loot box model rewarded players with cosmetics on a semi-regular (but still infrequent) basis. By moving to a freemium battle pass model, the best rewards possible are now locked behind paid tiers of the pass while smaller, free rewards are scarce and uninteresting.

With loot boxes, the focus of playing Overwatch was getting better and climbing ranks — just continuing to play in this way would occasionally grant you items that may or may not be rewarding. The focus of Overwatch 2 is climbing battle pass tiers, which means players will be railroaded into completing daily / weekly / monthly / event challenges possibly antithetical to their play-styles or desires in an attempt to min-max cosmetic unlocks before they disappear forever. Both models are predatory and troublesome for different reasons, but I guess it’s not so shocking to see people putting on rose-tinted glasses in regards to a monetization system they once hated given the new path is so withholding by comparison. Generally speaking: When a battle pass season launches, players can make a judgement immediately by seeing the reward tiers if it’ll be “worth it” to purchase or not. Loot boxes allowed for the entire item pool to exist in the possibility space of rewards which was more exciting — but also more alluring to those with a hard time avoiding falling into the gambling-adjacent side of the model.

The overarching problem here is that Overwatch 2 needed to prove more to its returning playerbase¹, and the (admittedly still great) multiplayer from 2016 will feel largely unchanged to casual fans. The takeaway, then, is that Overwatch 2 is more a fun dip into a nostalgia pool than it is a game reclaiming its rightful spot at the top of the hero-based shooter genre. Again: I'm having a great time jumping into the solo-queue and exploring all of the characters that have been added since I last played². Changing teams from six players to five is welcome, and the more aggressive play is a joy — but it still feels distinctly similar to a game I already decided to leave behind years ago. So all I'm left with is a battle pass asking me to make this game my full-time hobby, but I've picked up a lot of those since 2016. If anything, I'm trying to drop some instead of adding more.

¹ I didn't even get into how Blizzard now makes you link a phone number to your Battlenet account but specifically disallows pre-paid phone plans. I’m sure the intention here was to prevent people from setting up fake accounts for cheating or other nefarious reasons but it is also creating a literal economic barrier to entry for a “free” to play game. Even people who purchased the launch bundle can’t play if they’re on a pre-paid plan. It's literally classist, and is going to cost Blizzard a lot of returning and potential players.

² Even going back to the original release of Overwatch, Pharah has always been my go-to character. She'd had ups and downs in the time I was actively playing the first game, but she absolutely rules in Overwatch 2. I've been trying to experiment more with tanks and supports (I also used to main Lucio), and truly haven't found a hero I dislike playing as yet. Everyone feels awesome, and that's remarkable.

i bought fishing lures tonight. i don't fish i just like them and they were on clearance. they have some kind of oily fish scent on them though and they smell like the worst beef jerky in the world. completely ruins the experience

Destiny 2 Rant, pls ignore.

With regards to Destiny 2′s poor current state of affairs and Beyond Light’s poor performance, I keep hearing folks mention “cutting them some slack because of the pandemic” which I feel is being just a little too generously used to excuse poor content output.

For starters, Bungie hasn’t given any indication that Beyond Light was supposed to be anything more than what it was, pandemic or no. Yes, it got delayed to November because of the pandemic, but as far as we’re concerned, they did everything they set out to do with it prior to launch. It was good that they delayed it, I won’t fault them for that because had they released an unfinished product that would’ve been worse, but the issue is that the finished product isn’t good enough.

The pandemic can be used to excuse the delays, but not the poor quality of content we got once it was released. If I’m being perfectly honest, I genuinely think it would’ve been better off for Bungie to delay Beyond Light again to later this year and either extend Season of Arrivals even further, or hell give us Season of the Hunt, since it’s not as if this season pertains to any of the story that took place in Beyond Light anyways. Season of Arrivals did feel like it slightly overstayed it’s welcome, sure, but at least there were actual things to do.

You had the gambit-lite public events on Io or Titan. Escalation Protocols on Mars. Fuck all on Mercury but hey there were a few strikes. Speaking of, you had like what, 7 more strikes than we have now? There were numerous Exotic Quests. Black Armoury missions. The Menagerie. All of the Leviathan Raids. Not to mention all of the campaigns that are just gone now.

I understand the need to update to a new system, but I genuinely do not understand the way they are choosing to do it. For starters, it makes zero sense why things needed to be removed to make updates at all. That’s what having a developer server is for. Secondly, even if we pretend developer servers don’t exist and that they have to remove things to update them, then you absolutely shouldn’t remove 70% of the game at once. Removing one planet at a time would’ve been infinitely better for the game than what they did instead. It doesn’t make any sense at all.

And supposedly they keep saying they’re “trying to make the game welcoming to newcomers” but honestly, axing all but your paid campaigns doesn’t make the game feel all that welcoming. This is especially bad when you consider that, because of sunsetting, Forsaken and Shadowkeep are made almost entirely obsolete, and Beyond Light doesn’t have nearly enough to compensate.

Bungie says they’re in a transitional period and that we should just trust them, but I kinda don’t. Destiny is a game that I don’t want to die, but that I truly feel like Bungie is purposefully letting die. I don’t know the size of their team, but evidently it’s pretty small which is weird considering Bungie isn’t an indie company in the slightest. If they were, nearly all my criticism would disappear because I’d immediately understand why they have these issues. If their team is really that small, it’s because Bungie chose to make it that small, and they need to remedy that.

It doesn’t look good to charge $40+ for a poor expansion to a game that lost 70% of it’s content at the same time the expansion came out. It doesn’t look good to charge $25 each for the two previous expansions whose content, while maybe fun (at least in terms of Forsaken, Shadowkeep isn’t exactly what I’d call ‘fun’) is ultimately fruitless because all the loot you get from them are sunset anyways.

Mind you, I’ve paid for all these expansions. I’m not trying to cheap out of giving Bungie money, I understand that the game is free-to-play and they make their money through the expansions, but the expansions I’m paying for should be worth my money, and right now they just aren’t. Bungie has already said that none of the future expansions will be on a similar scale to Forsaken, which to me just means there is no reason to buy any future expansion. There is no reason they shouldn’t be as-big if not bigger than Forsaken other than that their team is small which is a decision they made.

And I know that sucks because I’m certain it’s not merely as ‘simple’ as just expanding the team, but honestly that’s what Bungie needs to do. There’s just no getting around that fact. You’re running one of the most popular MMOs in the industry, how or why you expect to keep it running with a small team is beyond me. The reasons given for smaller teams are usually consistency and communication, both of which Bungie is failing at.

Their creative well is clearly tapped dry, they need fresher minds to come on board, and a lot of them. Their communication with their community is also abysmal. They put out a weekly blog post that dictates rather than communicates. In all honesty, they actually act a lot like Blizzard does, particularly with Overwatch, which is something noteworthy I think considering they left Blizzard last year. Blizzard has the same exact issue of telling the playerbase what they want and what they will get instead of asking the playerbase what they want and working to make that happen in a reasonably balanced and enjoyable fashion.

A lot of the criticisms I have of Destiny 2 seem to be unique to me personally, which leads me to believe that this isn’t actually the game for me. Truthfully, I don’t know what to replace it with in the meantime. I’ve tried Warframe a few times, and while it is fun, it has a lot of elements that are just a little confusing to me which puts me off every time I try to play it. Path of Exile, again while fun, has similar issues and honestly isn’t all that comparable to Destiny 2 anyways outside of being F2P. Honestly, ever since I started playing Destiny 2 I’ve always wanted a Fantasy version of it. I know that’s sorta what WoW is, but I mean with similar gameplay to Destiny 2, not a top-down Diablo-like experience. Haven’t really come across one, and honestly I feel like Destiny is too unique in the genre as it is so even if I find a decent one, it won’t feel the same.

Reading, Writing, gaming, that’s my hobbies!

Oh wow, well, there’s Animal Crossing. I played Destiny 2 for a while with friends. Played overwatch. I love RPG games, Divinity series is underrated! Other simulation games too, I want to buy Planet Zoo sometime soon!

It’s very hard for me to answer this, I love so much music. I tend to love singer/songwriters, right now I’m crushing on Tom Misch.

I honestly can’t say...sure I’ve been impacted by great works, but I can’t say like oh George Washington had a direct impact on my life. I’d say modern day writers have though, like, JK Rowling, she’s the reason I’m even into literature, that and my 8th grade english teacher that challenged me to read more and read for fun. So yeah, I think JK Rowling is a historical icon :P at least she will be when I’m old!

Ah yes. I have acquired a nice collection of paper cuts, made all the more pesky each time I use hand sanitizer. I'm just not that kind of masochist. The temptation to throw all the stacks of paper has been alarmingly frequent, though.

Turkey sandwich sounds yum. Hope it was good.  Ah. See. I never would have thought it means shit outta luck. The most obvious option and I didn’t think of it :( But yes, staking out lesbians is always fun. Not that I ever do it. But I should. Once in a while. For scientific reasons. I think. I say if it’s not worth it, should definitely throw the paper pile. Even if it’s right before the weekend. And you have to clean it up yourself. It’ll feel totally glorious for about ten seconds. If you’re lucky and it’s a lot of paperwork, you might feel that euphoria for a whole thirty seconds. And vindication! Maybe throw in a Xena yell. And then go home quickly so you don’t have to deal with it until you return after the weekend.  Oh, you don’t like seafood. I forgot. Oop. I shall try and remember! Probably for the best, chicken is the supreme protein anyway. I really love chicken. In case you still couldn’t tell.  Hm. The book is Shadow Haven, but in book form. It got published by Ylva couple of years ago. I don’t actually know from which fandom you’ve been fangirling :P if it’s SQ you’ll probably know Shadow Haven, if it’s not, then you won’t. Or you hate SH, which is also valid enough. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it shouldn’t be! And no, not monopolizing my time. It was cold and I was burrito’d in bed and that made it really awkward to type on my phone. Besides, I like this whole thing. It’s a fun part of my day.  Hm, games. Let’s see. If it’s like board/family games, I really like monopoly. Although, lately I’m liking it a little less because I play it with my niece a lot and she gets so offended when she doesn’t win. And she does this pouty thing when you have to trade with her and it makes me give her shit for free. I think she’s playing me, though. Little shit. I love her, though. She’s learned from the best :P PC games I really like story rich games. Or brain popcorn games. I played House Flipper for a while, because it required zero brain power and just required my w+e keys and my finger to click my house over and over again. It was nice. But now I’m sorta over it. So now I’m playing Destiny 2, because I like the pewpew sound it makes. I don’t really know what the story is, or what I’m supposed to be doing. The games I currently own are: Destiny 2, Overwatch, Apex Legends, Ark Survival Evolved, Stardew Valley, Borderlands 2, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Out of those games, the only three I still play are Apex, overwatch sometimes but not often, and Ark Survival Evolved.

Im open to single player or multiplayer games, pve or pvp, survival games, or RPGs, but I don't like mobas or strategy games too much. I also don't like puzzle games.

Right now I'm stuck between dead by daylight, monster hunter, and subnautica.
