I also did a lot of anatomy practice (including 3d modeling of bones, I'm currently sculpting a spine for a full skeleton :0) but they aren't as interesting to look at lol
I could stay at just drawing chibis and felty pokes but I want to be capable of more

i've been reorganizing my indiana jones collection and it's amazing to compare how much they did in 2008 that they (lucasfilm? disney newly in the reins?) clearly did not put any attempt/effort into
no novelization
no comic tie-in
no republication/rerelease of any collection (books, comics, YIJC; the movies they just did a 4-set last year as a boxed set iirc, but no 5-set for this upcoming december release with DoD)
no fast food promotion
no food branding partnerships (in 2008 there was from what i remember snickers, m&m, Dr. Pepper, and a custom chocolate/marshmallow cereal)
and i'm sure i'm missing others. it's just so wild to see this not only in contrast to 2008 BUT ALSO as a counterpoint to the huge success of TOTALLY INESCAPABLE FLOODING FROM STAR WARS IN 2015! you couldn't even buy regular-ass grocery clementines without fucking bb-8 being slapped on the bag. they didn't have fancy clever sphero stickers or anything. it was literally just a bag of clementines.
anyway. i suspect it's in part because of disney maybe taking the reins on some of this, although lucasfilm tends to be very controlling of its IPs so maybe not? maybe it's just in part (or in whole) that so many jobs have become piecemeal hires who only last a short time and there's no longer institutional knowledge being accumulated anywhere? maybe a purposeful abandonment of lucas' very intentional (and notably successful) pro-licensing strategies? something about the demise of physical media and other strategic branding partnerships? maybe they're all too star-wars-ified to give a shit about indiana jones? (this does seem to be a pervasive hollywood problem— a circular logic at best and a circular firing squad at worst— we only invest time and money into IPs which are hugely popular (and never put in the investment to make sure kids everywhere know about our other brands))
anyway. this post brought to you by finding my the weird old Burger King toys and uhhhhh two fifteen year old uneaten snickers bars

sometimes I think I want to die
and then I see a ring made out of a teeny tiny wrench and think "Engie ring. Must buy." And now my finger is fucking green but that's not a problem because it brings me joy that I now own a teeny tiny wrench that wraps around my finger

A low-tech way to create high-tech materials
AMOLF researcher Christiaan Van Campenhout has found a new, simple method to create a material with a regular pattern of crystalline bands. The pattern formed by the crystals is not a coincidence. With a simple setup, the researchers can precisely control the width of the bands and their spacing. This could be a straightforward and cost-effective way to produce optics, electronics, or sensors. The research was published in the journal Advanced Materials on August 2, 2023. In all its simplicity, the experiment and its results are remarkable. The plastic sheet appears rather ordinary with its brownish color. However, when a laser beam passes through it, a pattern of dots emerges on the other side: the result of the regular narrow bands of crystals embedded in the plastic, invisible to the naked eye. Typically, such precise control over pattern formation for electronics requires expensive and complex techniques like lithography. Van Campenhout conducts his research in the Self-organizing matter group led by Wim Noorduin, in collaboration with the Mechanical Materials group led by Martin van Hecke.

UPDATE ON THE WARLOCK STAFF (PART 2.5)
I was meant to do the "rainbow" fabric but I got stumped when I remembered that I didn't had any fabric to do that. Specifically thin ribbon-like cloth that would be wrapped around the staff, below the crystal.
To solve that, I decided to do some online shopping on Etsy to get the things I needed.
This is ribbon I ended up buying for the "rainbow fabric". (I'm gonna paint it with the fabric paint I already have.)

I got red LED lights for the crystal. (I haven't decided on how I'm gonna do the crystal. 3D printing is not my thing but I have been thinking of just doing moldable plastic? Maybe???? I might need some help on what to do to make my own crystal that looks like that.)

Then lastly (and for fun) I got the last of this type of yarn for the base of the crystal. So that way there's visual texture to make it look really cool.

Acidfest (18th August 2023,) Carnival Brewery. Lomography Fisheye 2 (with Lomography Ringflash.) Expired Kodak UltraMax 400.
Liverpool Psychedelic Society put on a fantastic night at Carnival Brewery on 18th August with a fantastic bill of paisley clad psychedelic acts. These included The Crystal Teardrop, Looking Glass Alice, Zetland and Essa Shields.
The Fisheye 2 and Ringflash seemed to be the perfect combination to capture images for a night like this and I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with using the on camera flash in conjunction with the ringflash.
