Is it Thursday yet? 💔 was drawing this and got my heart absolutely shattered by Leaves from the Vine popping into my head so…. You’re welcome? Come cry with me.
A few ways Bells Hells could possibly come back from this nightmare of a situation:
• The Bad Wolf Scenario: Imogen becomes imbued with godlike moon powers and brings her friends back to life a la Rose Tyler in Doctor Who (spoiler alert? No, It’s been over 15 years guys, there’s a limit).
• The Revivify Chain Reaction: FCG uses revivify on Fearne, who then uses revivify on Orym (this one is realistic but dicey - it requires both FCG & Fearne to have revivify prepped and spell slots available).
• The Deus Vox Machina: The surviving members of Bells Hells contact Keyleth who jumps through the nearest tree to bring back her tiny fighty man and his friends (or maybe sends someone to do it for her, she’s very busy).
“Is she your favorite?” will be a line that haunts Critical Role fans for years to come; I can’t think of any dialogue across 3 campaigns more harrowing tbh
as orym's eyes caught sight of the blade and comprehended its impact, his first instinct was not to dodge or run or yell
it was to reach for the sending stone that connects him to dorian, hoping that this time he'll get to say good bye before losing someone he loves again
Okay but whenever something truly devastating happens on CR I've got majorly mixed feelings because on the one hand 😭😭😭😭😭 but on the other I just KNOW the fix-it fic this week is gonna be fire as fuck
so one of the last things imogen said to laudna was telling her to "RUN!", even before otohan showed how truly dangerous she was. which is just what happened with imogen and her mom. i am not okay.
Ive seen a few people question whether victory was even an option for the Hells during the Otohan fight, and i firmly believe Matt when he said in a tweet that there were multiple paths to win. I was of that belief even before he tweeted that.
The most obvious would have been to not beef it on initiative, because Ashton getting a rage in would have been an entire game changer. He wouldnt have been downed in the first round, and the group would have much more hp and damage output to play with. Their initiative fucked the action economy.
But beyond that, i think that dropping the barbarian in one round of attacks made the Hells falsly believe that Otohan was more threatening than she actually was. Dont get me wrong, she wasnt easy by any means, but she sounded like a glass cannon to me because even with mainly only pot-shots and op attack damage levied against her, Matt was describing her as looking rough by the end of the episode. I think if the Hells had focused their actions on attacking instead of running, they would have been able to either force her to flee, or potentially even downed her. Im not saying there wouldn’t have been anyone else downed, or even dead, but i firmly believe they would have been able to pull it off. Her movement was so insane anyways that fleeing quickly made itself to be an unviable option.
So while the fight was never meant to be easy, it definitely wasnt meant to be unwinnable. And even if Matt had miscalculated the action economy or the damage output of the fight to be mega unfair, any DM worth their salt can tweak those things mid combat in a seamless way.
In conclusion, stop being mean to Matt, sometimes the dice dont roll how you want, but thats why we play dnd instead of script writing a series of pre-determined events.
Okokok so I was just thinking about what kind of character Liam might play if he decides to let Orym stay dead, and I started thinking about some of his other characters, specifically Cinna Brightbow from the beauty pageant in EXU, and suddenly remembered "WILL THE HALFLING LIVE, OR WILL THE HALFLING DIE?!"
I can't tell if the tears in my eyes are from laughing too hard or from pain/lh
