IT'S BEEN A WHILE
I know it's been a while since I posted the last time. I have probably not propperly introduced my twin daughters though. They are not Mateo's kids, but he is taking his role as stepfather very seriously, and loves them like his own.
I haven't posted much as we have been very busy with the curly youngsters, and the girls has been hitting the pre-teen year very hard. They are constantly moody and has a hard time getting along with each other. Not that it worries me much. That's just how teenagers are, and so a pre-teens.
So today, to stop the constant teasing and arguing with each other, we took one twin each. I took Sorine, while Mateo brought Larke out for a hack on two of our adult horses.
I got to take a single picture of them, as they road out. The mare Larke is riding is a mare we bought from @echointernationaljumpers. They had gotten her from a boarder who had to move back to Australia, and didn't know what to do with her, since they didn't know anything about the western disciplines at all.
So we have taken Jammies (OCS Thats My Jam) in, and even if we don't exactly breed Paints or Quarters we will find a use for her. She can maybe be a part of our curly breeding program in time. Otherwise she can be Larke's horse. My girl has already taken quite a liking to the mare, and talks about her as 'her horse'.
Kids and ponies d:
While Mateo and Larke was out for a hack. I asked Sorine to join me in the arena. She always seems much calmer when riding, so I thought that would do her good. She mostly rides the only adult curly we have at the moment, which is Fosmanta (RRS Fosmanta). She is a sweet mare, though she needs a little more of an experienced rider than Jammies does.
But Sorine is handling her very nicely. She is definitely the one who is the most interested in the technical parts of the riding, while Larke just likes speed and a good hack.
Hopefully we will, in the new year, buy a few cows, so the cow horse training can begin. That's something I have tried a lot when I was young in Texas, and always wanted to implement at my own barn. So that's something for the new year!
We will see if the curlies have any real cow sense when that time comes. Until then we have been allowed to use some of the cattle on a neighboring farm, if we just tells them in good time.
That's about all from us for today!

he wondered if they were finally looking at each other.
commission for @tomcatwambsgans !!! thank you so much for the opportunity to let me run wild (truly bonkers wild. like full creative freedom UGH it feels so good) and pick a scene from the extraordinary romtom fic horse foreplay to work from; i had so much motivation when drawing from a well of SUChH evocative storytelling and wanted to push the visual claustrophobia, the intimacy, and distortion as much as i could in this piece to suit the mood of the fic <333

What kind of animals are on your farm?
cows, chickens, ducks, used to have a silly goose, barn kitties, and cattle doggy
we used to have goats but they escaped too often so my friend takes care of them now lol. and we had pigs when i was little. i miss those buggers but once one escaped when i was playing outside in the dark and i thought it was a monster 🗿 i screamed all the way to the house LMAO. also i was gonna buy a peacock a few months ago but then my mom found out about my secret plans and it didn’t happen lol
as for breeds, the herd is mainly hereford, but in the last few years we’ve also gotten black/red angus, speckle park, highland, and simmental (thank you neighbour’s bull).
i really want some sheep. i’ve always wanted black nose valais, but they’re sooo expensive and breeders are far away. maybe in the spring i’ll get some :] i’ve always wanted since i was a kid.

i think the most annoying fucking thing about people getting on scout's ass for having mud in their pastures is that i have seen and dealt with large hoofed ungulates during peak rainy season and they just do not seem to fucking get that mud is inevitable with big beasts like cows or horses and that theres pretty much nothing you can do if said big beasts decide to go out and stand in it instead of using the shelter you give them

how even 140 acres in one family for 60 years can develop its own myths
The rumor of a baby buried somewhere in the woods
If you sing near the old lane of the farm that used to be on the hill, the mean old former owner will kill you because he hated singing.
The Haunted Tree, which has a chain embedded in it, hollow tree which keeps living for decades-- if you knock on the tree and listen to it 3 times, and don't hear anything the 3rd time, the tree will swallow you up.
And of course the stories from when mom was a kid on the farm, and stories from when we stayed on the farm with our cousins....
