Something I did not pick up on before is that World of Thedas implies Alistair was sent to the monastery during Isolde's pregnancy--before Connor was born. Which means we actually can pretty closely pin down Connor's age, as he was born soon after Alistair was sent away--so in either 9:20 Dragon or early 9:21.

Possibly my favorite fucked up blink-and-you'll-miss-it thing you can do in Origins, is that if you send Jowan to the fade for Connor and unpossess him that way, you can proceed to tell Connor that Jowan was the one that actually saved him. The same Jowan whose fate was sealed the moment he stayed to help. Giving a child even MORE mage trauma to process, and for what.

I don’t know why because there is absolutely no lore in any of the games to support this (in fact quite the opposite), but somewhere along the line I decided that mages in Dragon Age all have different coloured flames, they can’t choose or control or change it, it just is. And I’d already subconsciously assigned most of the characters their colour.
Amaranthe Amell - lapis blue with a heart of iridescent pearl (because she’s God’s favourite princess)
Neria Surana – bright sunny butter yellow
Morrigan – deep gold with a dark amethyst halo
Jowan – pale silver-green marshlight
Anders – umber with a heart of crimson
Wynne – powder-blue, translucent like glass
Connor – jade green
Lanaya – pale daffodil yellow with a grass-green halo
Velanna – sullen orange like glowing embers
Finn – pretty normal looking, but gets a glint of emerald at the centre if he’s super excited about something
Hawke – blood red. Just blood red
Bethany – soft violet
Merrill – scarlet fading into coral
Dorian – rich magenta with royal purple flashes
Vivienne – pastel lavender
Solas – smoke grey with a blinding white halo, hurts the eyes
I have no idea why I did this but it’s my inescapable headcanon now. Feel free to comment if you have a different vision, or a character I didn’t mention, or your own Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor/OC!

Isolde and Teagan Guerrin, on Connor (and Alistair) at the Duke's estate in Mark of the Assassin. All variations. This dialogue only plays if MotA is played in Act 1, so 9:31, less than a year after the end of the Blight.
[Connor died, Isolde lived]
Perrin: How is your husband, Arlessa? I imagine the news of your son must have been terrible.
Isolde: We are at a party, Bann Perrin! This is no place for such dourness.
[Connor lived, Isolde lived (the ritual to enter the fade was performed by First-Enchanter Irving)]
Perrin: How is your son, Arlessa? Does Circle life suit him?
Isolde: He is well, thank you. He is glad to have proper tutors, and they say he is a very good student.
[Connor lived, Isolde died (the blood magic ritual to enter the fade was performed by Jowan)]
Perrin: How is your nephew, Bann Teagan? [if: Alistair dead]
Tegan: Connor is… a teenager now, Maker save us all. My poor brother is tearing his hair out dealing with the boy.
Teagan: He'll grow out of it. Or Eamon will kill him. Either one. [if: Alistair alive]
Teagan: Which one? Connor is well enough. He's almost through the most trying years.
Teagan: [Alistair king] Alistair, on the other hand, seems to be just entering them. Again.
Teagan: [Alistair exiled] While Alistair… that boy is going to make me old before my time.
Teagan: [Alistair warden] I haven't heard from Alistair in some time. But he's a Grey Warden. He should be able to look after himself.

analyze a Mage of Doom please?
The Mage of Doom [symbols: brain, skull]
The Mage class has its basis in the classic court magician. An example would be Merlin from Arthurian Legend.
The Doom aspect’s main theme is caution. You can find its official description here.
A Mage of Doom is among those who explore energy to influence. This is the “classpect group” they belong to. Members include: the Mage, Seer, Heir, and Witch of Life/Doom. These classes are all opposites or inverses of each other that explore the Life/Doom dichotomy (energy to influence). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Mage of Doom actively knows the Doom aspect. Active classes tell themselves what to do and do so for their own benefit. They are more likely to stand up for themselves, but more likely to be cruel. Mages and Seers possess great knowledge of their aspect and everything it symbolizes. Simplified, the Mage of Doom is motivated by themselves to know caution.
In personality, the Mage of Doom has trouble forgiving their own mistakes and hates confrontation. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the Genius Defender, defined by introspection and caution. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite is the Seer of Life, who passively knows growth.
Their inverse is the Heir of Life, who passively manipulates growth.
A classpect or “god tier” is an individual’s best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Mage of Doom begins life motivated by others to manipulate growth. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead knowing caution for themselves. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to know the Doom aspect actively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with the Knight of Mind, the Defender Genius.
The Mage of Doom would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Thought [Mage] and Doom [Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Dreams and Undead. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
Two possible gods, or denizens, to reign over their planet would be Hades (God of the Underworld) or Persephone (Dual Goddess of Spring Growth and Decay). Other Doom aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Mage of Doom completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of locusts (symbols of plague). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Mages of Doom are: Sollux Captor from Homestuck [canon example], Connor Guerrin from Dragon Age, Felix Alexius from Dragon Age, Scarecrow from Batman, and Jack Godell from The China Syndrome.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.

A Little Light
Pairing: Jowan & Connor Guerrin Characters: Jowan, Connor Guerrin Fandom: Dragon Age Archive Warnings: N/A Other Tags: Mages (Dragon Age), Mentioned Surana, Mentioned Jowan/Lily Summary: After years of young apprentices giving him a wide berth, lest they catch his talent for mediocrity, Jowan finds himself in the position of tutor to the young Connor. Written for havvwke/wintertree for the Platonic Ideal Exchange!
Freedom is not at all as Jowan imagined it.
In his youth, he pictured fields of flowers and skies teeming with birds. Sweeping landscapes the likes of which he knows now exist only in picture books. As a man grown, he pictured only Lily, and perhaps a home to raise a family.
As it turns out, freedom bore neither.
His bunk at Redcliffe Castle is as bleak as the one which now lies empty at Kinloch Hold. Bleaker, perhaps, without the nighttime whispers between his fellow apprentices to remind him he was not alone in the world. The walls are high, with slim windows scarcely wider than an arrow shaft. True, he can come and go as he pleases, yet when the day’s hours are his to spend, it’s all too easy to latch himself in his room and brood.
He settles uneasily into his new routines: by day, learning Connor in the arts of magic, and lying in dreamless sleep by night. He keeps the phial of Arl Eamon’s poison close at hand, telling himself that he simply awaits the opportune moment. He refrains from counting those that have already passed him by: an instant where Eamon’s goblet stood unguarded, a breath where the cook had her back turned from his meal. So many years at the Circle have left him accustomed to the idea of being watched. He imagines Templar eyes boring into the back of his head, anticipating treachery, and he slips the poison back into the folds of his sleeve.
And Arl Eamon lives another day.
The phial watches him, now. Glinting from atop his dresser, as if it is possessed of its own wicked inner light. Even as he turns away and closes his eyes, he sees it blinking behind his lids.
He lies still. Awake, then asleep, then awake again. His dreams flood with the sound of the Chant, sung in Lily’s voice. All is black, save the golden chime of her song. Desire courses through his veins, so potent they ache.
Awake again, and the air around him is hollow, joyless. The glare off the phial is drowned out by torchlight, and Jowan sluggishly comes to the realisation that there is someone at the door.

really overthinking the arl of redcliffe quest.
on one hand i like the idea of the quest. i don't hate isolde (at least for this situation, she was horrible to alistair as a kid), bcos what she did only illustrates how horrible circles are as an idea. she's by far not the first nor the last person who preferred to hide family member away from templars exactly bcos of how bad the circles are. the chantry has another "proof" that the mages are dangerous, as if they weren't the ones who created this situation themselves. if circles weren't kidnapping children never to see their parents, if they were just schools of magic focused on community and learning the whole situation would be entirely avoided.
but the solution of this quest is weird. there is an obvious best solution that saves both connor and isolde, it's not particularly hidden behind complex dialogue choices or anything. but also metagaming aside, just leaving redcliffe for gods know how long to get the mages is really immersion breaking for me. there should be some consequences of just, yk, leaving. i would much prefer the player to be forced to choose between two bad options, like we do with orzammar quests.
but now considering the two remaining options: killing connor or letting islode sacrifice herself, and knowing what i know about the circles, esp with kinloch hold currently raging about abominations everywhere, both i as a player, and my warden (tabris) would be really hesitant to just turn connor to them. lbr, they have a documented history of turning children into tranquils for the crime of having nightmares and being scared, you're telling me they wouldn't immediately jump to this conclusion seeing a former abomination and one that was saved by blood magic on top? like we obviously know that it didn't happen in canon, but that's what i would fully expect this of the circle by what they showed up so far, and so would my warden. (and even when we meet circle mage connor in dai he's depressed and eaten with guilt for something that happen when he was a child and wasn't his fault, i can bet that chantry was feeding those feelings for the last 10 years).
all i'm saying that i have a lot of doubts about sending connor to the circle. fuck the circle. my tabris would never just let this happen, especially knowing that connor's safety is something isolde died for. and then there's jowan. yes, he messed up before, but i would still consider him a preferable option as connor's teacher than a damn circle. we know that if let go, jowan actually helps some refugees and creates community on his own, away from the circle.
apostate connor is what i'm trying to say. apostate connor option would be so cool and better for him than the circle bs. let him be a hedge wizard, using his magic to help people instead and that would maybe help him with the guilt over everything that happened.

Bonds of Family
A story primarily told through correspondence sent and unsent. The year is 9:43, one year before the Inquisition is disbanded.
It's been months of correspondence and the Divine's Decree declaring the Circle of Magi dissolved is still fresh in the minds of the people of Thedas. Many mages never dreamed such a freedom might be possible. Just as many mages know they can never go home. They are creatures of magic, there is no home left for them.
That doesn't have to be true. Home isn't a place, instead it's something made. A home can be made again.

Anyway here's the Guerrin timeline as best I can piece it together, if it's useful to anyone!
Updated 7/14/23 with corrections & additions.
~8:84 Blessed - Eamon is born. (The Calling - He's 15 at the time of the Battle of West Hill, which occurred in 8:99 Blessed.)
8:99 Blessed - The Battle of West Hill. Arl Rendorn Guerrin, Eamon's father, is killed in action. Maric Theirin is presumed dead but reappears in Gwaren, which is then taken by the rebels. The Battle of River Dane deals a decisive defeat to the Orlesian forces, though the conflict is not completely over. It will take several more years to completely drive out the occupying lords. However, Emperor Florian officially withdraws support for King Meghren.
9:02 Dragon - Eamon, 18, returns to Redcliffe to claim his place as arl, but find it still under Orlesian control, and works with the rebel forces to reclaim it. Isolde, the daughter of one of the Orlesian governors, is sympathetic to the rebels and becomes infatuated with Eamon, who does not return her feelings; nevertheless, she feeds information to the rebels, and chooses to stay in Ferelden after her family is driven out. Isolde is four years younger than Eamon, making her 14 at the time. (WoT v.2 p. 102, 106)
9:02 Dragon - Maric kills the usurper King Meghren in a dual, officially ending the occupation and winning Ferelden's freedom. (There is a noted discrepancy in the dates between the epilogue of The Stolen Throne, and World of Thedas vol. 1, the latter of which puts the duel at 9:00 Dragon. Given other events, the later date seems more plausible.)
~9:08 Dragon - Six years after their initial meeting, Eamon (24) meets Isolde (20) again in Denerim. They quickly become involved and are married. (WoT v.2 p. 103)
9:10 - Alistair is born to Fiona and King Maric. His parents give him up to be raised at Redcliffe Castle, inventing a story about his mother being a human serving girl. (The Calling.)
~9:20 Dragon - Isolde becomes pregnant with Connor after difficulty conceiving. This causes rumors about Alistair (10) being Eamon's bastard to resurface, and Eamon sends him away to a monastery to spare his wife's feelings. Connor is born soon after.
~9:29 Dragon - Short of taking his vows as a templar, Alistair (19) is conscripted into the Grey Wardens. (WoT v.2 p.79)
~9:30 Dragon - Connor Guerrin (10) shows signs of magic. Isolde hires an apostate, Jowan, to tutor Connor in secret. Eamon (46) is poisoned by Jowan and falls ill. (Origins.)
~9:31 Dragon - Following the Blight, Eamon decides to stay in Denerim, serving as an advisor to the throne, eventually declaring his brother Teagan the new Arl of Redcliffe. (Origins, WoT v.2 p.104)
?:?? Dragon - (If Connor is dead) Rowan Guerrin is born to Isolde and Eamon. After a difficult birthing, Isolde dies. (Potential Origins Epilogue slide.)
?:?? Dragon - Rowan Guerrin shows signs of magic and is sent to the Circle, though her father continues to visit her. (Potential Origins Epilogue slide.)

I posted a video of this cut sidequest from Dragon Age 2 featuring Teagan and Connor a few years ago, but because I wasn't able to figure out exactly where the encounter was supposed to take place, the cutscenes didn't appear as they were originally intended. All the files for the quest are named with an Act 1 prefix, but I recently did a search again and discovered the missing piece: the cutscenes are still properly positioned in the files---in Act 2!
Dialogue under the cut.
Connor: They're looking for us, Uncle.
Teagan: I hoped to avoid violence, but the templars are determined to make that impossible. Teagan: You're not with the templars, are you? Can you help us? Hawke: (I might help.) I'm not with them. What's going on? Hawke: (Fight the templars?) Oh, just attack the templars? You know they practically run this city, right? Teagan: I'm all too aware. Hawke: (Why should I?) I don't know you. I have no reason to help. [Eamon is chancellor:] Teagan: My name is Arl Teagan. [else:] Teagan: My name is Bann Teagan. Teagan: And this is my nephew, Connor. Connor: Uncle, they're here for me. I caused enough suffering at Redcliffe. If you are harmed… Teagan: Loghain and Jowan are to blame, not you. I will not let these templars imprison you. Hawke: (Why do they want Connor?) I take it your nephew is a mage? [Connor sent to circle:] Connor: I'm a mage of the Circle Tower of Ferelden. [else:] Connor: There's no use keeping it a secret. Yes, I'm a mage. Connor: Years ago, I fell prey to a demon. I did… unspeakable things. Teagan: The Kirkwall templars must have learned of that incident. Teagan: Connor is a good boy. A good man. Hawke: (I won't fight templars.) A fight's inevitable. I won't kill any templars for you. Teagan: Who could blame you? Farewell. Hawke: (I'll help.) What's the plan? Teagan: Our ship isn't far. Once we're aboard, we should be safe. Teagan: Let's go.
Teagan: We just need to make it to the ship.
Templar: Hand over the abomination. Teagan: He's not possessed, you fool. You have no right! Templar: The Maker will shed no tears if the boy and his uncle die. Attack!
Teagan: We made it. Connor: We must get below decks, Uncle. [Warden and Hawke are both female:] Teagan: You remind me of someone… I hold dear. Though I never had the courage to say that to her. Teagan: You're very brave. Take this, with my blessings.
Journal entries: The Getaway Escort Teagan and Connor to their ship. Connor and Teagan were safely escorted to their ship. It is not known whether Connor and his uncle escaped from Kirkwall.
If you meet Teagan again in act 3 with King Alistair, he recognizes Hawke.
Alistair: Right! I'm Alistair, uh… king of Ferelden. And this is Teagan, my uncle. Sort of. Teagan: We've met—a few years back. Thank you again, Champion.
The headmorph in the video is Teagan Fix by DragonReine/dragoragirl.
