A pair of monkeys carved from lemon wood greets visitors in the entrance hall. The monkeys, considered a symbol of good luck, were commissioned by the archbishop of Paris in 1740. Handmade moldings and a gleaming Italian marble floor provide a splendid setting for an eighteenth-century fruitwood commode, purchased in New Orleans. The trumeau above exhibits its original glass.

This commode was one of Paul Iribe’s furniture designs for Jacques Doucet’s apartment at 46, Avenue du Bois in Paris, where he lived from 1913 to 1928. (x)

Oh I was not satisfied at all by that ending. That episode felt so meandering and pointless. And I don't think the way they tried to subvert the Columbo formula worked. Those annoying sidekicks. The twist in the middle is effective, but it doesn't go anywhere interesting. The drawing room finale feels so arbitray and dull. Just a mess and not a hot one.

'The wind beneath my wings' warbles Bette Midler, not a favourite of mine but someone out there is revelling in it ... I find fun in taking song titles and slipping the artist into the conversation ... and then I could see her Bette Midler style (From a Distance) ... and by Billy Ocean, there he was! (Suddenly) ... I love languages where one word covers a description of what's happening ... my made up word for today is 'smooming', I use it in reference to Signor Floyd who, although adored, loves to go into the lounge and smooth himself around the furniture and sniff and sign his name with the most happy of expressions ... my protestations of 'No smooming!' have little effect ... perhaps I should shout 'No Barbra Streisand!' (Don't Rain on my Parade!') ...
