“Playing a dangerous game, aren’t ye, laddie?”

Ren hangs the anvil BDubs had bestowed upon him over the throne. It’s a heavy, dangerous thing, meant to represent the weight and power behind his responsibilities. Or at least, that’s what he figures BDubs was trying to get across when he hit him with it.  BDubs is a little hard to decipher when it comes to these things sometimes. Ren thinks maybe all the moss has gotten to BDubs’ head. At least this time the infection just instills a sense of adventure, instead of dragging him off into the jungle like his last plant-based infestation. 

Ren’s spent the better part of a hour replacing the diorite floors and wall of his new throne room with deepslate tiles. It matches his colors better. Red and white is a palette he’s been intentionally avoiding, though not hard enough, apparently. He catches his reflection in the polished deepslate tiles. They’re too dark to be a true mirror, but the massive form of The Red King is unmistakable. His blood-soaked legacy sticks to the bottom of Ren's shoes like a shadow, always following just a step behind.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Ren sniffs.

"I notice you've neglected a proper crown this time," The Red King continues, undaunted. "Ye fear being a target even still. Even among friends."

"I was among friends last time," Ren answers defensively. "It was just a game. Besides, this is Hermitcraft."

"Aye."

"Aye."

"Yer wars here are bloodier."

"They're not." Ren steps back from the throne, nodding to himself when he decides the anvil is hanging straight. "And even if they were, they're more inconsequential. All anyone will lose is, what? A few hours and a few levels, maybe some gear if the pranks get crazy."

"The magician kens not what he asks of ye," The Red King insists. "Ye are falling for the same pitfalls ye did before lad. Was not Dogwarts the product of wishful thinking?"

"Why do you care?" Ren snaps. He's losing his patience. "You hate me, remember?"

"I'm trying to help ye, Rendog." The Red King's voice growls low, a whisper that feels like it comes from the depths of the earth. It fixes Ren in place like a knife to his throat, like a threat. The Red King's voice is beside his ear, like instead of speaking from a reflection in the tiles, he's standing right behind him. "Heavy is the crown bestowed on the unwilling, lad. Or the unworthy."

Ren tries to find his voice. Tries to come up with some digging reply. He could point out this is just another trick to make him feel bad about himself. See? You think I'm unworthy. Drop the facade of help and care. But he can't speak, because The Red King's voice begins again, so low Ren almost can't hear it over his own breathing.

"A good King rules in the interest of his people. He makes the hard decisions so they aren't burdened with them. He commands, because he is just. He revives peace in the corners of the world where it struggles to breathe."

The room is suddenly silent. Ren feels stiff, like he's locked in place. He's still staring at the anvil over the throne, but it looks less like an anvil and more like an axe head.

"Do you have what it takes to be a good king, Ren?"

Rockets sound overhead, and the freeze in Ren's limbs melts like a candle under dragon fire. Doc swoops onto the landing pad, beaming.

"Ren! There you are! Bro, oh my god, you've got to see what me and the hivemind came up with." Doc slaps his hands together and offers a maniacal grin. "Operation Skyfall on that Pesky Bird is ready."

Ren laughs nervously. Doc tells him about a death machine he's made like a kid discovering a new candy store down the street. This doesn't have to start a war. That's what they've said for the past three seasons. And even if it does start a war, there's no real loss.

He tells himself this as he flies after Doc, watching the red and white flash of metal and redstone grow closer.

2. I like how Leto looks a lot here though, lol.  They did good by him.  Ace and Bob in particular look super cute.

Everyone is.... cute.... and softer?  And to be honest I have mixed feelings about it.  I included a shot from the s2 finale above as comparison, and it’s just a bit jarring I guess.  I kinda wish the style they chose was more in between the original and this new one.  That’s probably just my preference though.  I’m just very fond of the “ugly” and sketchy style of the series so I’m biased.  Particularly the dark shadows and bold colors.

and then there’s..... Gaz.

I love her original design a lot so I’m also biased here.  But, I don’t know if it’s just the more “pastel” palette Rubicon has, but it’s very hard to look at this and think she hasn’t been whitewashed a bit... idk.  Might not be my place to say but I know I’m not the only one.  I’m not... crazy about this design.  It’s going to be interesting to hear Natasha Lyonne’s voice coming out of this Gaz, anyhow. XP

In general it feels like what made most characters’ design unique has been stripped down and simplified to the point where they look more like, “generic anime character”.  I’m guessing it made them easier to animate and I’m not trying to be rude.

To say a positive though, the part where Ballmaster was flying through space and taking down enemies looked very nice, and I’m excited to see more action.  I also know this is supposed to be like a love letter to retro anime.  The song in the trailer is delightfully cheesy and I mean that in the best way. XD

3. Finally... I’m going to be obsessing over this part at the end. Babyball @ Crayzar: “Well, this is a fine mess you’ve gotten us into!”

Above all I was/am just very excited for more Crayzar lore.  One of my favorite tropes(?) ever is seeing a usually-powerful character being placed into situations where they suddenly have no power and how they react in that situation.

Can’t believe Crayzar’s going to Gay Baby Jail for his crimes lol.  I get drawn to characters like Crayzar because there’s so much we don’t know about him, how he feels, and how he’d react to certain things, so that’s been a major appeal for me.  So I’m excited for how he’s handled in Rubicon and what “secrets” we’ll learn about him. (which was alluded to in the song lol)

So I wasn't actually tagged by @cour5t in this, but I was tagged by @rosewinterborn in a very similar game, so I'm stealing the first and pretending it's the second, since the second had a few questions that didn't apply to me x)

Last song: I'm gonna do the last song I've had on repeat for this!

Favorite color: I never know what to say for this. Black? Dark red? Dark purple? Dark green? That whole colour palette is the bomb dot com.

Last movie/show: The last movie I watched that was new was Nimona! It was fantastic, 10/10 lives up to the hype. The last show I finished was Reacher. It was okay.

Next on my watchlist: I've finally started watching Criminal Minds, but I'm already kind of burning out on it midway through season two. And there's still like 300 episodes left. Ridic. I should probably catch up on Foundation and For All Mankind. Next movie is the cartoon version of Mulan!

Last game: Prey! I did a replay of Doom 3 a while ago and mused that the horror story-game genre should be revived, and then on a whim I decided to play Prey without knowing anything about it. And it's the exact kind of game I was talking about. It's pretty good.

Last book: Rebirth of the Sigil by Peri Akman. It was disappointing. :/ Especially since I know what the author is otherwise capable of. I had the same thing happen with John Gwynne recently as well.

Sweet/savory/spicy: Savory, I think? I don't have an instinctive sense of what savory is. Google says it's a meaty taste, and I rely heavily on protein, so I guess that. I have a pretty low tolerance for sweetness despite liking sodas and such. I don't like most desserts or can only eat a tiny amount. Spicy is alright but my digestive system disagrees.

Relationship status: *vague gesturing*

Last thing I searched online: The hours for my pharmacy to see if it was too late to pick up my medication.

Current obsession: I am generally not an obsessive person when it comes to, like, interests and activities. But I am an obsessive person when it comes to thoughts and emotions. Lately I've been struggling a lot with thinking about eternity. It has not been fun. On a lighter note, I have also been thinking more regularly about writing. Perhaps someday that will translate into action!

Greatest flaw: How much time do you have? This is actually something I have difficulty answering, because the line between something forced upon me and something that is actually inherent to me is blurred a lot of the time.

I think I'd say how I behave when I'm spiraling mentally. I close off and disappear from almost everyone in my life. Occasionally I can keep up appearances with one group but not the rest, but by and large I become a ghost. When I am in a conversation during those cycles, it's crazy how badly I'm affected. I don't become cruel or mean toward others, but my speech becomes jilted, I can't make eye contact, and I am just devastatingly hateful against myself.

It's partly why I isolate, so that I don't have to expose others to that behaviour. It happens on a yearly basis though, and it can last for weeks at a time, so it has a pretty negative impact on my relationships. I also have no idea how to navigate being in one of those moods while part of a relationship where daily contact is an expectation. When I was part of a romantic relationship, instead of having one big prolonged dip, I would fade in and out of it. A couple weeks good, a couple days bad. Rinse and repeat. Awful. Terrible. Annoying. There's almost no predicting when it'll happen either.

Fic I’m currently reading: I rarely read fics because I have no patience for wading through wish fulfillment, horny writing, and "He would not fucking say that" fics, so there's only one that I vaguely keep up with. My friend has a Mass Effect fic, which can be found here. It focuses on femShep(/Kaidan) and Tali(/Garrus) and is post-ME3.

almost paradise outfit references

alright so this is for those y’all who are interested (thank you to @thenerdygorl​ for unintentionally requesting this. i am happy to scream about any and all little details regarding the fic so this gave me the push i needed to do this masterpost LMAO)

obviously this is just what i’ve pictured when writing the character of the reader and her style evolution throughout the series. also this is just meant to give you a vibe for the fits, none of this is like ‘THIS IS WHAT SHE WEARS PERIOD’. although we can’t see her, clothes have an incredible effect on storytelling and character development, so i have always had this in mind when writing. the clothing evolution from s1-s4 would tell the story of the reader’s character development from the judgemental, slightly pretentious, on the fringe of high school society girl we meet originally to the now vulnerable and incredibly lovesick woman that lets steve harrington hold her heart in his hands. i pray this is reflected in what is shown here - i am by no means a fashion expert or costume designer lmao. some of what i was influenced by is discussed in the incredible video by gq where amy parris (the lead costume designer) explains how she created looks for some of the characters in the show, like keeping the hawkins gang within a earthy color palette except for certain characters. ANYWAYS enough rambling.

season one:

season 1 oh boy. depression and confusion central. high school sucks. she has only one goal - get through this. college is right around the corner. due to this, fashion/looking good is by no means the priority, but it’s not not thought of. so... darker colors with only a hint of personality, hence the deviation from the typical stereotype of all black.

a large part of this fic is the importance of knowing someone for who they really are. the colors here, again not all black, reference the reader’s true personality that lies beneath the surface - the personality that certain people have cared enough to see, while also being the only people the reader is willing to let in. she can be hostile to those she despises, but incredibly warm and maternal. a select few people get to see that side of her.

babes needs a couple good jackets (this is stranger things) so literally any leather and/or heavy fleece lined denim will do. maybe there’s a lil denim on denim action since it’s an easy outfit and she’d manage to pull it off. also boots. hiking, combat, i don’t care. it adds to the tough exterior. tee shirts, thin turtle necks, tees layered with a long sleeve under it under the jacket. but important to note - you’re not hiding under your clothes, there’s a shape/figure there.

season two:

cindy crawford’s late ‘80s/early ‘90s looks are doing a lot of heavy lifting here in my inspo. they’re classic looks so they’re gonna look good no matter the era. the outfit inspo itself doesn’t change between seasons 1 and 2 but the colors do. as you can see... we get a lil bit more vibrant here. nothing too crazy, but had to include a burnt orange for the halloween vibes. the lighter blue and grey are thanks to letting a certain boy into her life - his friendship (and looove) gives her that tiny confidence boost that she doesn’t even recognize.

that being said... she starts wearing sneakers more often. nothing as bright as steve’s but his influence is apparent. she pulls out her old pair of nikes and finds them more comfortable than the boots she’s so used to trudging around in.

season three:

this is self explanatory lmao. lifeguard uniform the entire time accompanied by a pair of white reeboks and some midrise socks! would be absolutely iconic next to the scoops uniform, argue with the wall.

season four:

my personal favorite. this is where the most personal growth has happened. the colors are brighter, reflecting her willingness to be honest and more in tune with her emotions. the jackets have been mostly ditched due to the warmer weather. this is the most confident she’s ever been, and her clothes show that. tighter sweaters, more comfortable sneakers.

but when shit hits the fan, forget it. we’re back in action hero mode. sarah fucking connor. ellen fucking ripley. tanks and dark pants. the boots come back. a flight suit courtesy of war zone, the top half tied around her waist until it’s time to face vecna. bulletproof vest. it’s about practicality and comfort, but she looks incredible. i want her to step on me.

hair:

honestly just choose your fighter. just know that the hair gets bigger and more luscious the longer she’s with steve (you can’t tell me that she doesn’t steal parts or almost all of his hair care routine). i don’t describe hair for obvious reasons so you can imagine whatever hairstyle, texture, length, etc.

Okay I’ve been thinking about this for over an hour and honestly I do a lot of TV watching so I feel like sitting on it for longer is not going to make this an easier thing to answer.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend - It’s a musical show with such a diverse cast. It hits on mental illness as like the main theme but it also has - a fat character who never diets and her fatness is never talked about (which, please god more of this. If I see another fat character written so someone can be on a goddamn diet or be the comedic relief the whole show I’m gonna rip my own hair out.) She’s allowed to be a whole person and have wants and needs outside of her family and her job and I just fucking love Paula. It has middle aged queer representation (please go look up Gettin’ Bi, where the man who owns this law firm comes out to his entire company during a meeting.) Like there’s just so much good shit that we get to see not just talked about but talked about in a way that I feel like is handled really fucking well. Plus it’s just so goddamn funny ( ‘Heavy Boobs’ is a song that still gets referenced a lot in my house lmao.)

Honorable mentions (because like I said I watch a lot of TV): Bob’s Burgers (please god that family is so messed up and they love each other so much. The season 13 Christmas episode makes me weep it’s so soft), Galavant (another musical show but one that did not get a satisfying ending since the main character’s actor left to do something else and they kind of sort of ended on a cliff hanger? But it’s still a good show overall!!) Drop Dead Diva- not a musical show but a show about a thin woman who dies in a car accident and comes back in the body of a fat woman, and she has to learn about fatness and loving herself and has to unlearn a lot of Shit that we’re force fed by society about fatness and. I don’t remember if that one holds up completely, it’s been a long time since I watched, but at one point it made my fat girl heart so happy. She’s strong and beautiful and so goddamn smart and she had love!! Interests!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Like she’s seen as desirable and that was so surprising and made me cry. I ALMOST LEFT STEVEN UNIVERSE OFF OF THIS! The body representation, the gender representation, the way mental health and trauma are talked about just. 15/10 I love that show to death. Plus it’s a cartoon with such gorgeous animation and the best color palettes and just. Yeah. I cannot believe I almost left it off. (plus it’s also musical in the way that Bob’s burgers is. Not every episode has a song but the ones that do are *chef’s kiss.* love that shit.)

I know I’m leaving a lot of good shit off of here, (I was trying to think of movies and literally cannot think of anything outside of Jordan Peele’s work right now, but slap that man’s name on it and I am fucking watching it at least once).

Hi all! This year has been crazy for me and difficult in many ways, but one good thing that came out of it is I finally learned how to make gifs. SO i just finished wonder egg priority and i think that with confidence i can say it has been one of my favorite animes like... ever ?? and not even from hyperfixation or obsession over it just... its so fucking real yet so simple in a way that i havent rlly seen shown in any other shows you feel ??

but first i wanna talk about how sexy the art and animation is real quick... HOMIE ITS SO GOOD LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST... serotonin... the characters are all so unique and iconic and fun but not over the top in their designs yknow ??? they seem like regular every day girls but they stand out and theyre all sO CUTE !!!! also i love how the style is like this soft bubbly slice of life lookin stuff with bright happy colors and the most beautiful scenes you could find but they also have the SICKEST fight scenes complete with whimsical animal helpers and terrifying villains and crazy weapons unique to each character. and the animation. god DAMN shawty i am obsessed with everything in this show. i might make a post solely about the art later lol bc i wanna get into the other stuff.

so the themes in the show right ?? it starts just as this cute lil magical girl kinda deal but within the first episode we see that like.. oh damn... thats kinda heavy... tbh i was a little shocked and thought about stopping bc yknow bad mental health BUT i was so intrigued that i had to keep going and i am SO GLAD that i did. because this show just so beautifully discusses all these heavy topics in such an eloquent and artistically expressive way. and also like, , the juxtaposition of the charming childlike vibe with bright colors and 14 yr old girl protagonists against the dark themes of suicide and so much else,, i think is just perfect. bc a lot of heavy animes are more of the seinen genre and have some middle aged dude as a protag or make the entire color palette dim or offer little relief to the pain of these heavy themes right ?? but NO not wonder egg bitches B) because these problems arent just things that ppl face later in life or just problems that need to be talked about among adults or the edgy seinen watching squad,, these are REAL problems that face people of every age, gender etc and i think its awesome that wonder egg addresses that. some may cringe at the thought of their high schooler watching animes that discuss sexual harassment, suicide, abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc,, but in reality it is the most comforting thing i have ever come across and is basically jsut free anime therapy. because not only does wonder egg present these themes to the viewers as something real that happens to all kinds of people (making said people feel heard in a way that maybe they hadnt before), but it also makes sure to vanquish all of these forms of trauma. and the way the trauma is vanquished isnt always beautiful and it isnt always just magically gone with a poof. the struggles of overcoming or living with that sort of thing are shown in such a real and relatable way that addresses every hardship trauma survivors have to go through. and i just. god i cry bro. 

oh m y GOD and the lgbtq+ rep in this show ?? like shawty... as soon as i saw episode one i was picking up on some gay/lesbian themes but then again im sapphic and project that a lot so i tend to see that sort of stuff like... everywhere... but NE WAYS... episode ten made me FUKCING CRY BRO LIke i cant believe there was a whole trans character with a whole trans pride hoodie like LKGHKDGH my heart is just so.. so fucking full thinking about him. bc like yeah i know there are trans characters in anime but i feel like theyre always very ambiguous about actually being trans or not or erased or portrayed as a harmful stereotype or theyre constantly misgendered and still refered to as their assigned gender at birth and i hate it. HOWEVEr... Kaoru.. *chefs kiss* it was so amazing to see a character straight up say “yeah im trans” in such a casual yet powerful way bc i personally have never seen that before. and i love love loved how he went into his backstory and talked to momoe about gender bc i think thats what she rlly needed and that it helped her find herself and it makes me so happy oh my god,, and the way they talked about it never seemed forced or like it was the focal point of his existence yknow ?? like yeah he existed to help momoe overcome some of her trauma but he also just existed to be HIM yknow ?? also... personally, i headcanon momoe as a trans girl even though i dont remember it being explicitly stated plus the school scenes of her and stuff would seem like they suggest otherwise ??but,,, SHAWTY THE AMOUNT OF SUBTEXT and her complicated relationship w gender is... something i feel like a cis girl would not go through so harshly yknow ?? with all of the questioning and feeling detached from femininity or feeling like ppl dont see her as an actual girl and only like her as a guy or for her masculine traits,,, but dont take my word on this bc i myself am a cis girl but that was just my take on it as someone in the lgbtq+ community trying to educate myself on the transgender community :) either way,, wonder eggs portrayal of momoe and kaoru and the way that momoe becomes so passionate about expressing herself the way she wants to as a girl is just... good lord im gonna cry its so perfect,,,.so ... i just love this show way too much. i also am honestly super lost about the relationship btwn acca and ura-acca ?? bc i was gonna mention ura-acca as a canonically gay guy bc when i was watching i interpreted ep 11 as him being in love with acca and being jealous of Azusa (bc i mean,, they lived together (i swear to god there was only one bed in that apartment) and had a daughter together and def loved each other and also when Frill said they were husbands and then when ura-acca said he wasnt attracted to azusa but he was def jealous of their relationship ??) but then i saw somewhere that theyre brothers ?? which would make sense ig since they look kinda similar and accas daughter called ura-acca “uncle”.. but at the same time its ANIME SO THEY ALL LOOK SIMILAR and referring to gay couples as siblings is an EXTREMELY common euphemism soooo... IM JUST LOST HERE... but yeah i tried doing research and found different things so i cant say anything for sure >:( however,,, if they are canonically a lil fruity for each other... when frill refered to acca as ura-accas husband i imploded dude you never hear that sort of wording in anime.. but if theyre related i am so sorry. 

god this is so much longer than i planned it to be oops but i also love the theme about like.. relying on friends to help carry your weight but at the same time not becoming completely dependent on those friends and using their support to learn how to love yourself and rely on yourself yknow ?? bc that is exactly what healthy friendships look like. bc i think ai sort of had a codependency thing goin on with koito maybe ?? but now she has a whole squad of funky friends that are so so different but all struggle with different kinds of trauma and although they fight over it, they always get through it with each other together. and they push each other no matter what to be the best versions of themselves and they teach other that getting hurt is okay because theyre always gonna be there to pick up the pieces no matter what happens. they can give each other space when they need and adapt to meet each others needs but theyre always able to balance it out with their own needs and thats such a beautiful thing in friendships especially at their age like damn i wish i had that maturity when i was 14 but no all i had was depression. another thing is that through these friendships you get to see all the different sides of each girl; you get to see them being strong or a shining light to their friends when theyre hurting but you also get to see them being hurt and weak and allowing themselves to be on the receiving end of the comfort. their friendships allows them to have weaknesses but it also allows them to highlight their strengths and thrive off of each others. I LOVE FRIENDSHIP DUDE

next i wanna briefly mention some of the themes connected to suicide that ive noticed. a big one is the survivors guilt that ai feels once koito is dead. several times she screams that she wishes she couldve gone with koito and she dreams of a “perfect world” where they committed a double suicide. one of the main reasons for her troubles is that she blames herself for koitos death and feels like it should be her thats dead... but at the same time she feels like too much of a coward to do anything now that koito is gone. she just has all these complex and contradicting feelings that wear away at her in ways that ppl that havent gone through the suicide of a loved one could never imagine. a lot of the times when things like this are portrayed in media i feel like its more in a way thats meant to guilt trip those that have taken their own lives and paint suicide as this selfish sin thats unforgivable but... not only does wonder egg reject that idea and instead portray it as a heartbreaking tragedy with,,, so so many terrible reasons, but it focuses on the feelings of ai separate from koito without blaming her in any way. not once did i feel like the show antagonized koito or that ai blamed koito for doing any of this, but they simply mourned her loss and touched on ais reaction towards the event but separate from koito herself if that makes sense. and i think that discussing survivors guilt without painting koito as the bad guy is something so beautifully done in wonder egg that can really resonate with those that have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with these same things.

okay i think this is the last thing ill mention,,, but HOMIE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE BIT AT THE END. I AM. OBSESSED. i am such a whore for anything about the multiverse okay n e ways...,, not only did this make a super epic trippy ending of season one and add a little bit more magical girl whimsy to the show,, but it had such a powerful message. from the perspective of og ai,, finding out that you killed yourself in another world is... i mean its definitely not a surprise but at the same time it rlly makes you think how close og ai herself couldve been to that point and what decisions led her out of that dark place in her life. if i were in her shoes i would be terrified and id cry bc the thought of going back to such a dark place and actually going through with something like that is my worst fear and probably something that ai fears too. but at the same time,,, think from the perspective of ai two !!! like yeah its true that theres this awful terrible version of ai that dies but theres also a whole version of ai that is a superhero magical girl fighting off monsters to save countless ppls lives !! and she has a badass lizard and a gang of awesome friends !!! at first i was worried that ai two would be jealous of og ai and compare herself to her and feel inferior but like.. THEYRE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON AND CAPABLE OF THE SAME THINGS !!! and ai two realized that !! just within the span of one episode, she went from the version of ai who took her life,, to the version of ai jumping in front of a friend to take a bullet for them and save their life. and that just inspired THE SHIT OUT OF ME. i think that ai was sent another version of herself to sort of beat her own worst enemy yknow ?? those doubts and fears that shes no good or that shes that same bystander from episode one and that she hasnt changed at all. but getting to interact with her parallel self and see her grow was just what she needed to realize that while yeah sometimes the worst thing can happen and things can be terrible but on the other hand sometimes the most wonderful thing imaginable can happen because she has the power to do either. 

so im gonna go ahead and stop rambling bc i got all my thoughts out that i wanted to for this post :D but yeah lol i might make another if i feel like it sometime. long story short: this show is perfect and it is going on my favorite of all times.

Date: Aug 20th, 2020 Time: ~ 2:18 h I really like how this one turned out!!! The 2020 Emma b-day edit has a lot of major panel redraws, but this is probably my favorite. I I really enjoy how I made the shadows work!! And the ear banfage looks pretty neat. Nice!!! Immagine

Date: Mar 20th, 2021 Time: ~ 2:21 h Awww, soft Norman :') There was a bit to redraw, but I think everything turned out pretty neat!!! I believe everything works out fine. Though looking back at it, the part of the ID I added is definitely top small :')

#3: Manga dub: Yuugo gets knocked out

Date: Mar 27th, 2021 Time: ~ 5:05 h Here start the Manga Dub redraws to which I gave my everything ahah. This one turned out nice! I think the shoes turned out particularly good eheh. I like how Yuugo's clothing lineart- for the texture, I wanted to go for something heterogeneous, but I'm not fully confident in the final result. Gilda looks very rushed but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Date: Apr 9th, 2021 Time: ~ 1:31 h Awww, a beautiful panel I was really happy to have the chance to redraw. Taking into account what there was to redraw, I'm actually surprised with how little this took! Ray's backpack was a pain to make, but I think it turned out fine. I'm very happy with Emma and Ray's heads!!

#6: Manga dub: Formalities

Date: Apr 12th, 2021 Time: ~ 5:31 h It is not always easy to give sense to Demizu's perspective, but I do my best!!! In this I am *so* happy with how Don and Ray turned out, they look neat! The background on the other hand... It took hours to make ahah. I'm not fully confident in the perspective, but I'm happy with the details I've added- I really did my best to make it look like athe other manga panels and I think it paid off!!!

#7: Manga dub: We may be weaklings, but we're still alive

Date: Apr 30th, 2021 Time: ~ 1:37 h This little Emma is so cute!!!!!! I think the redraw turned out pretty perfect. I'm really satisfied with how this one turned out, and it's such a cute little Emma!!!! She's so brave and optimistic, I love her. It's a shame this panel didn't make it to the episode :')

#8: Manga dub: Goldy Pond Gang

Date: May 7th, 2021 Time: ~ 8:44 h lmao This is probably the panel redraw I'm the most proud of ever :') Just think everyone turned out very nice!! The ceiling is not exactly perfect, but it still works somehow. I'm very happy with how Gillian's back turned out!! I don't really like the fading effect on the right, but 8h in I got pretty tired of working on this ahah

#9: Manga dub: This is Goldy Pond

Date: May 21st, 2021 Time: ~ 1:29 h I'm very glad for how the Manga dub has been challenging me to learn to redraw backgrounds, something I had quite literally never tried before. It can be a little frustrating, but it's so satisfying to see the final cleaned piece!! With this panel, I also learnt to use copy and paste, which is something I had never done before beyond texture

Date: May 21st, 2021 Time: ~ 3:42 h This is another background that turned out pretty good!! That one Norman is one I knew I would have had to fully redraw sooner or lager- the background was a bonus ahah. I'm very happy with the final result!!

#1: The Promised Neverland manga ending edit

Date: Jun 14th 2020 Time: ~ 12h 41min (5h 45min of cleaning panels in the edit + 5h 37min of cleaning panels that didn't make it to the edit + 1h 19min of resizing) + time spent cleaning panels I've deleted the file of so I can't see lmao This is overall very nice!!! The concept of an Emma evolution through her back is cool, and I think overall the edit turned out very aesthetically pleasing. The concept idea came to me while I was working on the 2019 Emma's birthday edit, a long time before the manga ending announcement- back then I wouldn't have imagined using it in occasion of the manga ending, but I think it ended up making a nice tribute. The colors add a nice touch, since so far my edits had always been black and white- it makes a sweet closure. To make that edit I selected 76 panels of Emma framed from her back; I plan to make other versions of that edit using the discarded panels eventually!

#2: Emma - Chapter 181: Beyond Destiny

Date: Jul 12th 2020 Time: 2h 57min My last edit for the manga 🥺🥺 I think this one is my very "manga ending edit" because to me it really signed the ending of weekly chapters and their weekly chapter edits. It makes me a little sad to look at it, but it's also, I don't know, kinda sweet to see how I grew both in my panel cleaning and as a person since I first started my blog. I'm glad I got into TPN!

#3: Emma birthday edit 2020

Date: Aug 22nd 2020 Time: 8h 54min This one turned out so well!!! Though I used the same concept for all the trio edits, I think this one is the best one. The two panels on the left / two panels on the right alternation combo never fails ahah. The colors are nice (shout-out to my sister for making me a palette), despite the fact that it was hard for the lighter ones to make them work with the images without having those disappear. I'm very satisfied with the panels I chose for this, I think they work really good together! Also, it got me very happy to read everyone's comments saying they liked the fading effect in the last panel :)

#4: Emma + Eyes Close Ups [1/?]

Date: Jan 24th 2021 Time: 5h 55min This one was really nice!! Another idea I got when working on the 2019 Emma birthday edit I was glad to finally execute. Started the edit in September, finished it in December. I'm overall very happy with how it turned out... I hope I will be able to make more in the future!

Date: Feb 23th 2021 Time: 5h 7min (panel cleaning only) Aaaaahh I really like this one!!!! A parallel I love very much, and I'm really happy with how the edit turned out. All the hair redrawing looks neat!!!! The gif is maybe a little excessive, but I think overall it's a nice edit. I like it!!! Fun fact, I completed it on August 26th 2020, but I couldn't find the right moment to post it ahah.

Date: May 23th 2021 I've wanted to express this concept since like the first time reading the manga- I'm so happy I finally did!!!! This concept is one of my absolute favorite things about tpn- the feelings that people are good. The concept that kids who got to live in an healthy and supportive environment will always be inclined to kindness and altruism, because humans are just inherently good. From the Three Character Classic: “people at birth are inherently good”. I want to have faith and courage to hold on the goodness in myself, and to hold on the goodness in the world, no matter how difficult it to do that (Chloé Zhao).

Rainbow High Dolls/Shows Ramble pt. 2

As promised here is my list and opinions on both the dolls and characters. I didn't include any dolls that haven't been reviewed/come out yet.

Must have doll faves (not in a particular order):

Bella: When I first saw her doll way before I fell down the rainbow, I just absolutely fell in love with her design. She's the one if I only have one she's it. I like her character on the show. I hope they explain more about her return and show her interaction with her roommates and team members. I think while fans love her, I don't think she's MGA's fave (I'll say who I think it is later).

Georgia: Another, when I saw her doll I thought she was so cute. I like her second outfit the most with her. I loved they gave her a Southern accent and I hope we will see more of her. I think we will because in an Vi Life ep it said she went on a date with Emerald.

Poppy: I love Poppy's first version the best. Her overall aesthetic makes up for the fact that the first wave have shiny faces. I think her cheer look is too plain and the winter break line doesn't wow me. If they make a runway look, I'd want that doll over her og doll especially if the face was matte. I like her character for the most part. I was disappointed that she sided with Violet on the whole viral video thing.

Gabriella: Her design didn't really grab me when I saw her in the background on the show, but as a doll I really like her. I do think she's unnecessarily bitchy, but in a way her icy veneer might melt a little. She's kind like a tsundre character.

Daria: I think her doll is gorgeous and if I get her I want her to wear her second outfit, but maybe not with the heels (though I do think they are gorgeous). We don't know much about her, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. Since she's a singer, I really want to hear her.

Emi: Her face is so beautiful and I love the blends of different purples. I do wish they had put her hair to frame her face more, really utilize the Farah Fawcett hairdo better. It would make her forehead not look as large. Though, that's something a little restyling could fix. I want to see more of her in the show.

Not faves, but wouldn't mind owning them (no order):

Sheryl: I love her Clueless inspired look, but her doll didn't blow me away. If I did get her I would prefer it if she didn't have the dark lip liner. I do think she would look cute standing next to a Bella doll with their similar taste in clothes. I haven't seen enough of her yet in the show. Honestly, the girls should have washed their own clothes and Stella should have made sure to empty out her pockets.

Daphne: When I saw her in the background I got so excited about her possibly being a doll. Then I saw her doll and I wasn't blown. I do like her design, she's just not a must. She seems like she might be an interesting character in the show.

Laurel & Holly: I like their dolls, but they are very expensive as a duo set (RH in general is very expensive and I understand why). They are bitchy, but in a fascinating for onlookers kind of way.

Krystal: I like her, but I'm not loving her. I wish there was more variation in her color palette. I don't have much opinion about her character yet.

Sunny: I like her dolls better than her character. If I got her it would either be her og look or her winter break look. I did like the baby hairs they added in the runway show, but I wasn't in love with her look enough to want a possible doll version. Her personality is one I'm bad with, like she's nice but I could only take in small doses all the overly cutsey perky. I feel like her and Violet went and got bangs together. I also feel that MGA really like blunt bangs because they have at least four characters with them: Sunny, Violet, Ms. Wright, and purple background girl that has Ms. Wright's haircut. I think she needs to call Violet out more on her bs.

Jade: I think her and Bella are really cute together. Honestly, I would want her doll just so I could have Bella and Jade side by side. If I got her it would be as of now her cheerleader version, because I like the brighter lip color on her than the nude. BUT! If they come out with her runway look (or at least with black lipstick), then hands down it'd be that version and I'd move her up to my faves list. I love how she's the sweatpants and t-shirt girl, but her makeup is going to be on point.

Skyler: I like her character and I'm happy they are making her more confident in herself. If her og doll had a matte face, I'd like it better. So, if I got her it might be the cheerleader unless they come out with something better. I don't like her winter break look enough, except for those curls.

Jett Dawson: She's my favorite upperclassmen character. I hope we see more of her. If I got her doll, it'd be on clearance or something. I'd probably keep her in her box because she's got a lot to display and she cost a lot.

Amaya: I feel MGA loves her the most, because she's got the most merchandise and storylines. I wouldn't mind either one or both of her looks. If I got the white version, it'd have to be second hand because I don't care for the hair makeup. Unless, they made her runway look then I'd get that one. I loved her runway makeup on her more than the makeup-less face (don't take this as people look better with makeup) that she has with the white version. I didn't like her white hair in the show at first, but in the runway ep it looked really good. At first I wasn't crazy about the blue in show, but I liked it for her doll look. Now I like it in show and as a doll. I'm glad they didn't make her a complete replacement of Bella by having her dye her hair pink and be in set design. It's best that they went with blue and fashion, because if anyone was going to be the most forgiving of having their feet stepped on (after Sunny) it would be Skyler.

On the fence about or probably won't get

Ruby: I like Ruby as a character and I so badly want to like her dolls. While I love the color red, I just find her looks too intense. I really hope they come out with another alternative look with her in mostly black and a matte face. If I could I'd want her a black biker jacket, black pants, her flame boots, and either a white or black t-shirt. Her outfit would have a flames motif to go with her boots. Despite what Violet may think in her Vi Life, I think don't think Ruby and her are all that close. I think Ruby is closer to Jade and Skyler (mostly Jade).

Violet: I love the color of her hair. Her personality needs work and I hope they keep working on it. Unfortunately, her color palette is a bit boring. I don't love any of her doll versions. Her dress from her og look is my favorite of her clothes. I can take or leave her bangs. Part of me wants her as a doll so as not to exclude her from the rest, but the other part is do I really have to. I think MGA was originally more of a main character than what she is (because she was used a lot for promos and ep 1 starts with her and Sunny), but people find her too unlikable. If the winter break line wasn't so shiny face and I could get her in just the figure skating outfit, then that would be the version I consider of her so far.

Kia: I question her matchmaking skills with her trying to pair up Bella and Colin. First, I was like "gross, she's gay and she's already got Jade." Then, I realized that Kia obviously doesn't know the full story about Colin and Skyler or at least doesn't know that Skyler and Bella are friends. Because no way would someone date their friend's cheating ex. I wish her name wasn't spelled that way, because I keep pronouncing it the same as the car instead of as Ky-ah. I like her doll design, but I just wasn't feeling it in part due to the show and her price tag. I would like to see more of her character.

Karma: Curious about her character. Don't care for her fashion. Love her face and it makes me wish more her color wasn't so intense. I'm not sure, but it seems like her doll is taller or at least thinner than the other doll. Honestly, I'd dress her doll in a white t-shirt and jeans and most likely put her hair in a ponytail. Since she's a cheerleader, I am curious as to what her cheer look would be.

Avery (and the other As): I don't care for the As as a whole. I wouldn't really want Avery's doll in part because I don't care for the As and because I don't want all the stuff that comes with her. Though, her doll does make me wonder if in the show her hair is a wig and she actually has a pixie cut under it. I do like the As better in season 2 than in season 1 (I thought they were very suspicious). I liked that Avery took Bella out for a drive to help her feel better. I thought was funny that Aiden covered Ainsley's mouth during the play so she couldn't say something that obviously wouldn't have been G-rated to Violet. I do think they should make Ainsley and Aiden dolls so that people, who want to, can collect the As. I'd be tempted to have Ainsley or at least her clothes, because I'm really digging her look. I know Aiden is a backup QB, but his doll most definitely shouldn't have abs. He doesn't seem like the guy who works out enough or play sports enough to get abs.

Stella: I don't see myself getting her. Her color palette is really harsh to my eyes. Which is funny to me because I love my 60th anniversary Barbie (the one with the pink hair), who has a similar color palette. I think it's because of all the textures in Stella's wardrobe that makes it too much. If they gave her another color like black or white to balance the hot pink, it might be better. From what we've seen of her I don't care for her personality. I'm glad they had Bella brush her hand away when she tried to see if Bella was wearing a wig. I do think her personality adds spice to the show, but it would take a lot for me to like her.

River: Like his character so far, but not crazy for his doll. The big eyes are just a bit much and cutsey in his doll more so than in the show. From what I've seen MGA is not good at designing male dolls (doll makers in general struggle with this, but they are the worst I've seen). I do think River looks better than male OMG/LOLs and NaNaNa Surprise male dolls. To be honest it's hard to please me with male dolls. I have/had three male dolls (non-action figures and figurines) in my entire life so far. I do like his second doll outfit and can't wait to see it in the show. I do like him and Amaya together. I think they make a cute couple and I like how in awe of her he was during the fashion show.

Interview with Elizabeth Beals

Here we are at the end, our final interview! Fittingly, we're capping it off with Elizabeth Beals, the other long standing member who has stuck around since Square Carousel's very beginning. While Elizabeth's signature style has remained instantly recognizable from Challenge 1 through Challenge 143 and counting, her skills have undoubtedly blossomed over the past decade. Today, we're catching up with our resident long haul Square Carousel member, admin, and comics professional, Elizabeth Beals!

Emma Frost

Q: Even though your art style is beautifully consistent, your work still stays fresh with each new challenge. What are the biggest aesthetic changes you notice in your work when you compare your most recent pieces to your graduation portfolio?

A: I haven’t looked at my graduation portfolio in a hot minute, it’s pretty wild seeing how far I have come. I’ve gotten better at compositions/ I’ve leaned into cooler, more saturated palettes/ have a better use of textures/ and I also don’t force myself to create a full bleed illustration if it’s not completely necessary to get the story across.

Elizabeth’s workspace

Q: Has your art making process changed at all during your post college years?

 A: Oh yeah, definitely!

In college I would thumbnail/ flesh out the comp at scale with normal mechanical pencil/ ink with a 005 micron/ erase the under drawing/ scan in the piece/ clean up in Photoshop/ then color until completion. 

Whereas I now thumbnail/ scan in the one I like/ format and print it out at a larger scale (in light blue)/ go back over the print with a blue pencil to refine details/ ‘ink’ it with a extra fine mechanical pencil/ scan it back in/ clean up in photoshop/ and then color until completion. 

And if we want to do an even deeper dive we can look at the ‘Color until Completion’ portion.

In college I would create a top layer, which was always the scan/line art set to multiply, and then I would place the coloring layers beneath it. I was just getting into textures and color holds so they were pretty crude but it was nice that I was still fussing with them.

I currently use the same process as a base but I’ve also started painting on top of the line art (like, A LOT), using overlays, adjustments, effects, and more.

Q: What's been your favorite professional project to work on?

A: Mmmmm, I think this one’s a tie for me, the first one would be my cover run on Star Trek: TNG - Terra Incognita. It was my first cover run and the writers/ editors I got to work with were a complete and total dream. They whipped up some pretty fun concepts and I really got to stretch my art muscles for it. Plus the Ice cream I designed for issue one got worked into the story, so having a cannon ice cream design is pretty dang neat. The second would be my first OGN, Virtually Yours, with writer Jeremy Holt! It’s been a project that we’ve had waiting in the wings since 2015 and got to revamp for ComiXology Originals in 2020. It was the largest project I’ve ever worked on and it was such a tough/ joyous/ and complete learning experience for me. I was glad to have an amazing team of people to work with and you should deff check it out if you haven’t already ;D

Q: What's one thing you wish more people knew about you or your work?

A: One fun thing about me/ my work is that my love of drawing hair came from wanting to create Cammy White (Street Fighter) fan art. With braids as long as her’s you gotta take your time and learn to draw them right! XD

Q: While working, do you prefer to watch tv, movies, listen to music, or sit in silence? Any recommendations for background media?

A: Definitely a TV series or movie, preferably something I’ve already seen (less potential to distract me). I always end up falling back on older shows like Murder She Wrote or Midsomer Murders, basically anything with a long syndication. When I was working on Virtually Yours though I would have HBO’s Gentleman Jack on. It’s a newer series with only one season but it served as a good timer/ work schedule for me.

Star Trek TNG: Terra Incognita (issue 6)

Q: If you could choose one character from the Star Trek universe to befriend, who would it be and why? A: To avoid getting too crazy, I think I’m gunna limit myself to TNG (plus I have the most knowledge of that series) and go with Guinan. She’s wise beyond her years (if you could believe that), funny, empathetic, resourceful, and makes a mean drink! And not to break the 4th wall or anything, but it’s freakin’ Whoopi Goldberg!!! ;D

if you had to criticize classic and modern spunch bop what the criticisms be?

I feel like this should be split into 3 not 2.

Classic, middle, and modern spongebob since we know classic is like seasons 1-3/4 and then modern spongebob as of currently is season 9-12. So middlebob is seasons 4-8. Since it's not quite classic but no longer modern.

Anyways it's hard to be critical about classic spongebob since its something you watched as a kid over and over and it's hard to see something new about it and be properly critical without nostalgia getting in the way.

But something I've noticed as of recent is that I really prefer season 1 over 2 and 3. It's well known that I like season 1. But to put why I feel like it's so special and what feels lacking from seasons 2 and 3. I miss how down to earth the stories of season 1 are. They're calming and they kinda feel like silly things that happen as a kid.

They felt more exaggerate in the later seasons like the characters get a little bit more dialed up for comedic purposes and in more and more crazier situations. That's not bad. That's what gave the best and most memorable moments in the classic era. This is more of a personal preference. I just like how there's a bunch of little details and stuff about the characters sprinkled in the first season. Like spongebob explaining why he can't seem to pass his boating exam of the fact that Patrick's parents kicked him out or spongebob saying nobody went with him to his own junior prom. They aren't a big deal but they kinda shape an idea about the characters before the series began and how they generally like. We do get this in seasons 2 and 3 but it becomes a lot more cartoony ans it gets lost a bit. I'd like a balance. Season 2 and 3 gave the most memorable moments and most meme worthy moments as well. So yeah.

That's not really proper criticism. More of a personal preference and very subjective.

There's also inconsistency with character designs (not like just drawing them off model) but like sponge looking different in pretty much every episode. Sometimes thin lined, sometimes thick lined, sometimes more square, sometimes more rectangular. I can't complain since I like that variation and looks but its a little too obvious. How many times his look changes?

Also around the middle of season 3 the show starts to get a little mean spirited. I get the joke of Mr. Krabs selling SBs soul for 62 cents and how horribly the bikini bottomites treated spongebob in the Sponge who could fly. I know people bring up the mean spirited nature of spongebob when talking about the middle seasons but it started season 3. It was just less noticeable. But err.. The problem was there.

I don't think there's much to say that hasn't already been said about that middle era of Spongebob. Seasons 4-8. Its not as bad as people make it out to be but you can notice when the show starts to slip towards the end of season 4. Season 5 was pretty hit or miss. Though I like a large portion of season 5. It's kinda weird how every other episode is flopping from good to bad. You can watch two episodes that are paired together and they'd be completely different qualities.

The episodes slowly dipped, recently I watched an episode from season 8. It really sucked. The plot as an idea was good. But the characters were so flat. They just move their mouths and look in different directions, left or right. They're just standing. They always announce what they're gonna do. It's so slow. Some of their jokes rely on awkward conversations snd a weird blank kind of feeling that a lot of shows in the late 2000s/early 2010s relied on. That I really despise.

Like spongebob and plankton having a conversation and its so boring and straight forward but they drag it out so long. And most of it is spongebob just saying "wait! Wait! Wait! *pause* wait!" Its not going anywhere.

People complain about modern spongebob being so expressive but I prefer the expressiveness over how blank and boring these episodes were. There's also things like grotesque character designs and squidward torture.

Also facial expressions!! Aside from being blank, I just hate the chubby cheeks look. With really round eyes and sometimes gross looking expressions. Weird thing to be critical about considering I like the modern seasons also have weird expressions. But idk how to explain why I don't like it. Its like uncle grandpa but if it was spongebob. Weirdly doesn't work well together.

And now for modern spongebob. Hard to say much since I really really like it. I know people complain about over expressiveness but I adore it. But I always liked over expressiveness in cartoons. Crazy wacky expressions are like eye candy for me so I think I have my own biases.

But season 12 has a little bit too much. I'm just recalling when I watched r u zoo? And it gave me a headache. My head was spinning since the expressiveness paired with almost neon backgrounds was too much.

Speaking of backgrounds. Background art is gorgeous, amazing, stupendous. But there are times where if feels like straight neons. Particularly greens like for grass and whatnot. Why does it look neon?? This isn't exclusive to SB. I've noticed this with pokemon too. Where the grass is neon and I just can't stand looking at it.

Season 3 has the elite color palette. I like how much more blue-greens there are. And more purples. But that's a personal nitpick.

I remember my friend saying while she enjoys modern spongebob, it doesn't quite feel like spongebob. And while I adore modern spongebob, yeah I get whst she means. Spongebob and the rest of the characters really don't act the way that you expect them.

(Just noticed how many times I wrote spongebob there but anyways) the characters don't really act like the way that you expect them to. That's probably from the lack of continuity. But sometimes mmmm sometimes the joke that spongebob is a baby feels weird. From being goofy and has childish traits to straight out a baby is something thats been happening a looong time since the middle era. But it feels weird. I prefer when they joke about his nerdier traits.

I accepted modern spongebob as its own character and not the same as classic spongebob.

I kinda accept every spongebob from each season as its own character because he acts too differently season to season to make a fair comparison.

But yeah sometimes it still can go overboard. Spongebob being a crazed maniac while driving, squidward getting excessively brutalized for nothing.

R u zoo doesn't make much sense why he'd get banned from the zoo. Isn't there a whole episode where he fears he might have broken the rules? He acts like a baby and can't recognize he did anything wrong. It feels so out of character, even for him. Or him being a constant destroyer of anything he touches. Which in media is a trope I hate.

In show they're kinda self aware now and exaggerate the characters personalities to make a joke of itself. Like spongebob being a kissup at work. Or the characters aware and expecting spongebob to mess up and destroy things. Idk I don't like it? It was funny at first but it stopped feeling like a joke and more of how the characters actually are.

Also mr. Krabs! This is a criticism that goes back to middle era spongebob but his greed really needs limits. At least before he cared about people and learns his lesson when his greed goes too far. But I miss when pearl and Mrs. Puff used to mean more to him than money. I miss how he used to treat spongebob like a son. Something worth mentioning.

This is a bit much, more than what I was expecting but I hope this satisfies your question!

We got a pretty mixed pie chart this week. To be expected, given how many moments were in this episode. At a tie with the largest pieces of the pie were Hange’s eccentric attempt to greet the Marleyans and Eren’s gunshot figuratively hitting Sasha. Behind that two more options tied in each with 10.4% of the vote - EMA’s conversation at the shooting range and Sasha appreciating Nicolo’s cooking. This is followed closely by Eren’s mirror scene with 9.7% of the vote. Onyankopon explaining why he looks different when Sasha asks him about it took a solid 9% of the vote.

WHAT WAS THE MOST EMOTIONAL PART OF THE VISIT TO SASHA’S GRAVE? 144 Responses

Though subtle, MAPPA did include some anime filler (such as Eren’s, erm, mouth breathing). 51.1% enjoyed the noticeable additions, while 37.4% are completely confused by the question and didn’t realize there were any. A handful generally don’t prefer additions but enjoyed what little ones we had this episode. A small sliver didn’t care for them.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SCENES FROM CHAPTER 107 THAT WERE PEPPERED IN BETWEEN THE MOMENTS FROM CHAPTER 106? 139 Responses

MAPPA is shuffling things around to pick up the pacing of this arc, and 48.2% of respondents are feeling very positively about it. 38.8% also feel that both the order of events in the original manga and the anime work out just fine regardless. A couple of smaller groups either felt that things were a bit off from the manga, or didn’t really care either way. 

I think it's great because it allows an episode to start and end on the same chapter if mappa ever wanted it, allowing the right twists or cliffhangers to be in the right episodes, all WITHOUT having to slow down, which I wholly appreciate.

I'm fine with the changes. Mappa is doing good job.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CHANGE OF GABI BITING HER NAIL AND ANGRILY SAYING EREN’S NAME IN HER JAIL CELL? 142 Responses

Nearly half of voters feel that both MAPPA’s take and Isayama’s original take work just fine for Gabi’s character. 28.9% prefer the anime’s take on Gabi’s reaction to all that happened, while 14.8% feel that her more defeated posture in the manga makes more sense for her character. 

I'm a mix of both? Her defeated posture implies that she's not happy with the way things worked out with them in jail and Zeke betraying them. On the other hand, her angry face is realistic to the scene too because it implies she really blames Eren for their current predicament.

She looks like some female version of young, angry Tarzan. This time Mappa should have kept the original postures, because the defeated Gabi feels to be more realistic, than the crazy anime one. 

I think they both work but the anime's take might be the anime team beating us over the head that she's just like Eren when he was young.

The response to MAPPA’s take on Eren’s shot inadvertently hitting Sasha was overwhelmingly positive, with only a few people saying that they could have done better with it.

Exactly 50% felt that while having that JSC characterization would have been very much welcome, they’re okay with that small detail missing from the manga (granted, it was at least acknowledged by one panel being animated). 25.7% have a more nonchalant response, stating that if it helps with the pacing, they’re fine with small cuts like this. 10.7% are just let down by JSC’s lack of characterization in the anime overall and didn’t appreciate even more being taken from their characterization in this episode. 

I was more so interested in our Paradis Peeps talking about newly discovered technology but I’m happy with what we got.

If by "anime" you mean the entirety of it including the past 3 seasons, then option 3. I'm always going to be salty about how much they took out or changed for these three during the uprising arc. So far mappa has done okay with them, I guess. 

Would have been a funny JSC moment, but it was really absolutely pointless. In manga format it works as just background words on a panel. Animating it takes seconds of an episode that could be used elsewhere. So I'm fine with it being cut out.

This goes into my criticism of the color palette and shading style mappa uses, which is far more subdued. The contrast is lowered and the scene is very dark, and there is little rim lighting, so while the actual lineart has far more detail, the detail in the lighting is reduced. Damn I really am writing a wall text aren't I? I prefer Wit Studio's art style a lot but Mappa has honestly been doing great so I couldn't care less, manbun Eren is hot.

I prefer the manga version. I think the anime version have weirds shadows in eren's back. Plus the mirror don't have the same energy, less impactful

I understand the fandom because this moment was very popular when the chapter was out. I think that in the anime Eren lacks the anger he had in the manga. His voice was too calm while repeating his mantra. .

See, I'm not sure buy I'm also worried and curious about it all. It brings up the question of will the story continue in a possible second half of the season? With the manga ending very soon now, it makes sense to have the story wrap up in its anime medium as well. Fees like there's some kind of uncertainty surrounding this, it's unnerving tbh.

fantastic!! maybe it's just because this isn't my first time going through this arc anymore, but i feel like the anime feels chronologically less confusing than the manga—I remember being very confused my first time reading these chapters.

The lack of score by Hiroyuki Sawamo is negatively impacting my relationship with the anime. The depth of the emotion that could have been evoked was not present. I also did not get the sense that Nicolo and Sasha were in love, which was a major disappoinment. There were other aspects that weren't so bad, though; specifically, Levi's portrayal and Onyankopon's philosophy.

It felt a bit all over the place, but just seeing things from the manga being animated, I ain’t even mad.

I think that the scene between Sasha and Nicolo was made better in the anime. Isayama has problems with writing romantic moments, so in the manga the whole moment looked like it was taken from some light romance. Mappa made this scene more serene. I liked it. 

I think MAPPA is doing so great tbh! I just need them to hurry up and explain if there will be a part two to this final season or what?! I need to know if we get more anime or they'll diverge into movies or.... just tell us! Lol!

Yashahime News - The Seven Colored Rainbow Pearls! - Theories and Analysis

On September 11th we saw the Sunrise Music Festival Livestream. They said that Souta will play a bigger role in Yashahime and that they wanted to create something that the Fans that grew up with InuYasha and that have became adults - Can enjoy. I did make the post about it, so you may have already seen what I said about it when the Sunrise Music Festival happened on September 11th. I will just say that my wife was not very happy about me staring at a screen for four hours. But hey we also got to see Towa's voice actor, all she really said was the synopsis. But still, fun. I think I completely dissosicated from that because of how long we were watching it alongside my group chat friends. Alot of them passed out directly after because we were exhausted from staying up just to watch this whole thing for more possible information. So we're crazy dedicated to this. The voices for Adult Kohaku, Hisui and Takechiyo have been announced - Ryohei Kimura will be the role of Kohaku Takehiro Urao will be Hisui Ai Fairouz will be Takechiyo [I apologize if I said those names wrong in the video] Here is the translation for Yashahime Keyword number 13 #13 Shikabane [Dead Body Shop] It is a bounty shop that trades heads and the remains of youkai. The owner of the shop, Jyubei, hires Moroha and Takechiyo. Moroha works with Takechiyo, like it had said in Moroha's early translations that she does work for the Shop. It even mentions Jyubei in that translation! So this would be the second time we hear about Jyubei. There's definitely going to be some Bounty Hunter and Demon Slayer conflict. Which is probably why we see Moroha and Setsuna fighting in the trailer. It would make sense for them to have competition because of their jobs. An idea of what could go down for that fight - Setsuna: This is my job to exterminate this demon. We need the parts for our armor and weapons. Moroha: It's MY prey! We sell the parts! The demon slayers could buy the parts from the Corpse Shop for their armor, maybe at some point they can agree and collaborate. But I think it would be nice to see them being competitive with one another at first, and then come to some sort of an agreement. The Corpse Parts shop can supply the Demon Slayers with the material they need for their weapons and armor! They could have some nice sort of trade going on for parts, armor and weapons. So, Jyubei. Who is this guy?- Well, I think it's possible that Jyubei is the new character we see in the poster. I say that because their clothes are tattered like Moroha's. Which gives me the feeling that it's gotta be a signature Bounty Hunter look for the Corpse Shop. That's saying if it's not Shippou or another character that we can think of. What do you guys think? I think it's possible that character is Jyubei. I mean, it also could just be some other character that is a traveler based on the attire. I previously stated that I theorized that there could multiple colored pearls because of the name being rainbow, and because of what was shown to us on the Yashahime Website We have confirmation that there is multiple colored pearls for the rainbow pearls. It was stated in the Yashahime keyword #14 Rainbow Colored Pearls A jewel that enhances the magical power of youkai. It is said that there are seven-colored pearls, as the rainbow-colored name suggests. I know what you're thinking - It's like Dragon Ball or Sonic the Hedgehog. Well Dragon Ball was also actually inspired by Hakken-Den which was a famous Edo-Era Japanese novel, Akira Toriyama said that was his inspiration in Dragon Ball Bouken Special. In Hakken-Den there was eight and he didn't want them to be the same exact number - So he had changed it to seven. If you look at the image, they all sparkle the same as Setsuna's eye does from the trailer. The Shikon jewel sparkles in the same way, as these clearly look a lot like the Shikon Jewel as well. Let's hope that we didn't have seven priests or priestess have to make these...I'm Kidding! I previously talked about how Moroha also has a red pearl on/or in her shell and that it could hold memories or someone is trapped there such as InuYasha, Kagome any of the others. As we know that pearls have to do with memories and portals. However, it's unknown if certain abilities are only exclusive to certain colored pearls and it's something that I'm looking forward to finding out about. So we can also take that possibility into consideration that the different colored pearls may do different things as well. Now we can speculate more on all of the colors that could be related to the characters. We know that there are seven colored pearls based on the Yashahime Keyword but on the site there also is an 8th one that is a Black Pearl. If we want to see about linking these pearls with the characters - We can base the pearls on color palette and also speculate by using the InuYasha Cafe Pictures though some of them are different colored we can still use this as our map. InuYasha Cafe was created to celebrate and promote Yashahime so we can use this as a possible idea for speculation on what the colors could represent. I'll put Miroku inbetween Sango and Shippou, as his colors are in the middle. However, it's more likely that Miroku would be tied with Sango. As we can also speculate if two characters can relate to one pearl as well. We can swap some of these around based on the various artworks, or even the characters color palettes. Such as InuYasha as red - Kagome wore green for a lot of the times, Sango wears pink in her demon slayer armor, Kirara for yellow, Shippou as blue, and Miroku as purple. Maybe Sesshoumaru in the middle. I think it's also a good idea to use The Final Act's Opening as reference as well. - InuYasha would be green - Kagome would be red - Miroku would be yellow - Sango would be blue - and Shippou would be Pink Any of these could be right or wrong. [InuYasha-Red,Kagome-Pink,Sango-Blue,Kirara-Orange,Sesshoumaru-Yellow,Rin-White/Grey] Now, what's interesting is that the Official Yashahime website still has an unclickable pearl. It also reminds me like how Setsuna is missing her memories. Gotta wait on that update for us. We can even speculate using the first Yashahime poster - since Moroha has a red pearl, she is represented by red, that Setsuna is represented by Purple and that Towa would be Blue. The thing is, the pearl that is currently still unclickable on the website may be the purple or pink pearl. If it's supposed to be purple - which would be like Setsuna's color palette suggests on the first Yashahime poster. Though, it could just be a pink pearl. We still don't know if Moroha's pearl is a special pearl, or just for decoration. It's up for speculation as of now. Of course these character colors may have nothing to do with the pearls, but I will say that it's ironic that Moroha does have a red pearl, InuYasha's color palette being red does match the InuYasha Cafe art, and well he is most known for wearing the red robe of the fire rat. While Moroha's color palette on the poster is also red. We also can speculate that each pearl may simply be a fraction of memories that are missing. These memories may be related to the characters or unrelated to the characters. There's a chance that these Pearls could be the other characters memories besides Setsuna. Could these pearls even hold their souls? More hidden places in these pearls? We do know that Setsuna needs a Rainbow Pearl to recover her memories, it could be that she just needs one or multiple as each could represent a fraction of her memory. We're getting closer to the air date. LET THE ANXIETY CONTNUE. Or, you could be excited. Or BOTH! Hosenki's son said it would take him 100 years to create a Black pearl, it could be that Hosenki himself made these. Unless these are newly made experimental pearls that his son made. I wonder how old these could actually be. Hosenki's son did say that his father used all of the pearls before he passed away. But, you never know if there was some secrets none of them knew about. It's possible Jaken's staff could help them find these pearls, besides just the black one. The Black Pearl being the 8th hidden pearl could lead us to InuYasha or of course the Inu no Taishou's grave. It could be that these pearls were not made by either Hosenki or his son, there's always the possiblity of these being made by another Oyster Demon. As there could be others that we don't know about. Their origins are such a mystery, and I can't wait to find out what their history is. I'm guessing the pearl in the middle will be called the white or grey pearl. I'm just saying this based on the website because it shows the darkest color pearl at the bottom, which we can assume is the Black Pearl. Unless they decide to call this middle pearl, a black pearl as well. But as we know from the information given to us, they will recover Setsuna's memories for sure. These pearls make demons stronger and I like that they took the idea for the Black Pearl and made them multicolored. As obtainable items that increase power, similiar to what we had seen with the Shikon Jewel. I've previously talked about that - There's a possibility when all of the colored pearls are collected that they can combine and create one whole rainbow pearl. If the characters are sent to different dimensions in each pearl, I wonder if time passes differently inside of them. It could be that the others would be sealed and perhaps not even age. Someone wanted to know how long I think Yashahime will be? Well as a season I guess would be 24-26 episodes. There's a lot of times that we have anime that run on 12 episodes, but since I think Yashahime will do well - Around 24-26 atleast. I also don't think that they will reveal who the mother is of Towa and Setsuna right away. I think it will be revealed later on, as they want to keep our attention on watching the series. I think it would be very quick for them to finish Yashahime in one season, especially with the idea of collecting seven pearls - so I think that they should do more than one season. Here's to hoping that it will be more than one season, but I still will be content with one season that wraps up well - Because this is an InuYasha Sequel we are talking about.
