with twitter imploding, people are talking about how much it'll suck to have celebrities and brands on here, but...I think celebrities can exist on tumblr in a healthy way.

because I've already seen it happen.

I don't know if you guys remember, but there used to be a decent number of celebrities on here! I mean, the white house had an official tumblr! so did my local library for some reason! everyone thought tumblr was the place to be!

we had George Takei, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Hayley Williams, Ariana Grande, Dylan Marron, Dante Basco, Rebecca Sugar, John Green, Hannah Hart, Jacksfilms, Daniel Howell, and Ashens to name a few, as well as brand accounts for Doctor Who, Sherlock, Denny's, and so many others.

(Cole Sprouse was even on here, and it was fine. don't act like it wasn't. it was really not a big deal! it was fine!)

there were plenty of celebrities and brands on tumblr a decade ago - and it worked fine when people knew to stay in their lane!

did Obama's official account give a shit when people posted Obamney slash? absolutely not!

did we pay attention to whatever the brand accounts were posting? we did not!

and so we existed pretty well together on this site - because, after all, we don't have to look at anything we don't want to. we can block people. and they can block us. and we can keep posting what we want, no matter what any celebs or brands have to say about it, just like it's always been.

the only thing I think needs to change is, well...hey...remember how I mentioned John Green and Rebecca Sugar up there?

yeah the reason we don't see them on here anymore isn't because tumblr isn't a place they'd thrive - it's because a bunch of assholes harassed them until they left.

and that's not fucking okay.

so look, if you see celebs/brands on here, follow them, or don't! block them and ignore them, or don't!

but if you send threats and harassment to anyone on here, whether it be a celebrity, brand, or average tumblr user, you are the asshole. full stop. sending threats to other people is never okay. never.

and yes, this goes for the corporate accounts too! those are still run by people!

it's somebody's job to run those accounts, and guess what! that poor, probably-underpaid person doesn't deserve to get sent gore and death threats because their job is running a corporate tumblr account!

just, whatever happens when twitter explodes and dies a horrible death, it's gonna be okay. but please be kind. above everything else, please, I am fucking begging you, be kind.

love that i've been here since 2012 so i can be all "back in my day..." with newer users.

back in my day, we had asks AND fanmail. Nobody really understood the point of fanmail and it was kind of useless most of the time

back in my day, you could only search for one tag at a time.

back in my day, you couldn't go a day without seeing a post with a superwholock reaction gif, even if the post had nothing to do with it.

back in my day, tumblr had no built-in blacklist feature, and xkit guy was considered a small god here

back in my day, cole sprouse came here only to conduct a social experiment, and the site never forgave him for this betrayal

My coworker and I somehow got onto the subject of how meme culture has changed so much from the early 2000s to now. We got into the topic of tumblr memes and he made the mistake of asking me about what memes get popular on the Hellsite

As everyone that’s frequented this webbed site knows, a lot of our memes are self-referential (“but my silence,” “my three weed-smoking girlfriends,” the ball pit, etc.), so this turned into a tumblr history lesson

The curriculum included:

• the tubby custard post

• Oncest (this was the hardest one to get through, by far)

Firstly, I love how so many of the gg are outing themselves as Cole haters. Second, if they are so confident he is a big lying cheater and Lili will out him now. Let’s wait and see Cole haters. I wouldn’t hold my breath, I’m betting all you are getting is some more of those vanity shoot pics you can sooth your crazy selves with.

Oh it's really obvious she's gonna say absolutely nothing. If anything? Kinda seems like this was a big bitch slap for her and she knows she'd best simply distance herself (tho, again, he didn't even say anything much)...but yeah, sad vanity shoot pics (TBF, I do like the car and the cabin, so maybe there'll be moar of that!)

Dude, Cole's legit always like this interviews, where TF have you even been? He always uses big words (that's a point I'll revisit), there's shit he recorded prior to even booking Plaiderdale with that.....

And, again, it appears the big issues are always, in addition to above, "how dare he be smart, how dare he be irreverent, etc...

And it's always done by one particular type of (usually) female:

Thinks they're sooooperrr smart, speshul and talented (particularly writing).....is, actually....none of the above. Despite this pining for Cole to be a sad sack doormat, doesn't even actually go for the hot loner in the corner, but prefers the bourgeois football hero. And disparages Cole for being both the hot nerd and now, turns out, not really.

Also, resents that he's probably smarter and certainly moar erudite....

Dudes, we see you and it's an absolutely horrible look. You're just assholes. Accept it. And you all self insert as Breetch and PP, because they're rather average middle class girls who got to fuck him....and when he dumped them, you think he dumped YOU....and it begins the end of their associated fame

If we can go to the 50s, have the characters become teenagers again and forget stuff (except for Jug who is now a 26 year old stuck in a 16 year old’s body) then we may as well just go back to 4x17 and undo the thing that lead to all of this crumbling. There are no rules of what can and can’t be done at this point.

One of the (many) things that annoy me this season is how they tease us with Bughead crumbs to keep us invested but never more than one episode in a row. They give us Tabitha in Rivervale being jealous of Betty and then nothing, they give us Bughead making out to save the universe and everyone forgets what happened and we go back to Riverdale. They give us Bughead working together for an episode and Jughead getting a flash of their “best of” moments but it’s never followed up on. Now in this last ep we have Ethel yell at writer!Jughead about still loving Betty and again I suppose next ep we get nothing (though at least this was Jughead in a different universe who may need to face Ethel’s wrath there).

I have no doubts of Bughead being endgame and I’m not oppose to these crumbs but it’s annoying that they keep giving us these hints just to then pretend they didn’t.

I simply think it would be mildly funny if Cole Sprouse conducted another social experiment where this time, he creates a tumblr blog that resembles a spam blog, with the goal of getting blocked but not reported by as many users as possible until nothing is viewable on his dash or in the tags.
