YouTube swaps for @radblrthemeweeks

I watch YouTube when I want to have some downtime... And I like my YouTube to be fun.

I thought I would share some female YouTubers I've been enjoying recently, I'd love to hear other people's recommendations!

If you like Nick DiRamio or Mike's Mic, TV and film review/comedy videos try -

Jamie French

She reviews bad and nostalgic films, including skits where she green screens herself into scenes from the films. She points out production errors, lazy tropes and is pretty fun. The series started out being "movies and make up" but the make up is easy to ignore and as she's done more movie review videos she seems to be doing the on-screen make up less and less.

Kierra loves TV

Kierra summarises and discusses characters and tropes in her favourite TV shows. Her channel is pretty new, only 7 months old, and while i don't watch her videos on family guy, in her other videos she has a great voice and interesting perspectives on early 2000s TV - I enjoy her videos on Gilmore girls and Sex and the City

Clickfortaz

I love Taz's videos, she is silly, very honest and quite naïve. Her friendship with her childhood friend Moon is really lovely, but most of her videos are just Taz trying new things. She has talked a lot about her mental health and has published and performed her poetry.

Angie repairs, restores and up cycles furniture. The videos are informative but also very calm and satisfying and I really like her work!

Karen makes a lot of animals, mythical and real, and her methods and techniques are really interesting to watch.

18. Short Rainy Saturday Post

Signing on on this rainy cloudy Saturday morning due to a weird guilty to not journaling (is it the rain? is it ClickForTaz running in the background and me seeing her growth and then me feeling guilty for not documenting my growth? the world will never know...) to just say that:

She's growing -- she's trying to figure out who she is in terms of her relationship, how that affects her day to day, and ultimately how happy she is/how to even figure that out

She's also trying to give herself some social grace -- she's just trying to let herself live and give herself time to figure things out and feel it all out

She's learning how to fight!!!! aka shes learning how to just be honest with her feelings, no matter what the fallout may be, and she's now aware of the fact that fighting with someone does not mean that they're just going to disappear from your life AND I feel like that's just going to help contribute to overall happiness and sustainability of our relationship

Ending thoughts -- I like the direction we're going in. I feel like continuing to grow and learn about myself and i'm giving myself the space and runway to do so :)

January favourites

Season 2

Month has passed and after a little flu break I bring you January favourites:

Self care:

Digital art -I was give the opportunity to do digital art and that gave me so much inspiration to be creative again!

The body shop -I’m not a big fan of self care things that cost money, but I mentined them once before and I still love it! I bought new nice smelling soaps. Their products are vegan and they don’t hurt my very sensitive skin

Podcasts -I stopped listening to podcasts for a while but my love for them has come back

allthingskoze -Kalyn’s blog has gotten an upgrade and it was worth it!

ClickForTaz -Very funny gal!

Unus Annus -I think I’ll have to mention it every month until the end

Kalyn Nicholson -She started making weekly vlogs and I am absolutely obsessed

Crushes of the month:

Jodie Whittaker -Season 12 of Doctor Who is here, which means you’ll hear about Jodie A LOT

Simon Baker -I recently started re-watching The Mentalist and my old crush is back

Series:

Friends -I wasn’t able to leave my bed for the last week and Friends are a great series to binge while also half asleep...

Doctor Who -Season 12 yay! Somebody please hug 13

The Mentalist -I’ve always found it an interesting take on Sherlock type of detective. It’s funny, dramatic and Patrick Jane is your very lovable sassy idiot! For some reason I’ve never finished the series but I have seen the first few seasons at least 4 times. Hopefully will finish it this time. No spoilers please!

Podcasts:

Edge of Sleep -Just finished it (I know I took my time) and to be honest the ending was kind of disappointing. The whole series was amazing anyway!

Music:

Czech music -Vague I know so here are some people to check out: Chinaski, Kabát, Xindl X, Michal Hrůza...

Movies:

Kubo and the Two Strings -I haven’t seen an animated movie this good in a while. Amazing stop motion animation and an original story. Love it!

Isn’t It Romantic -I usually don’t like this type of comedies but this one was surprisingly hilarious!

Day 1 without a job

I am a 23 year old (soon to be 24 year old) brown skinned person who feels just a little bit lost right now. I live in London with my parents and today is my first day in a long while, without a job.

For the last three years I have been certain that I want to be a journalist. I think I have been relatively successful so far? But with the world under lockdown, the news simply feels too overwhelming right now: Covid-19 continues to decimate populations, there isn’t enough testing and a vaccine isn't coming anytime soon. And so I find myself ignoring the news completely.

So with all my newfound free time, I want to write for myself. But publicly? I am a journalist by training after all.

I am going to try and write in this blog everyday for the remainder of the lockdown. I will limit myself to 250 words to make it easy as possible for myself.

I will not tell my friends about the existence of this blog until I have kept it up for at least two weeks. This way they'll actually have something to read if they ever click on it!

This blog will hopefully be a small insight into the life of a young brown Londoner trying to figure out his future. I will write about my friends, family and whatever else pops into my head

ClickForTaz:

She's so bright, happy and creative. Always positive and has interesting challenges and videos. Check out one of her video about going on a 5 euro flight to Italy if you're looking for a good time.

Report of the Week

At once strange and highly comedic, it remains unclear whether he plays a character or is truly an enigma (both of which may be true). While dressing in 80s and 90s oversized suits, looking dapper and being articulate, he reviews mostly fast food. Don't be fooled, though. He also graces us with tutorials and day in the life style vlogs. Almost all his videos are one take, and it seems more like a performance than simply a YouTube video.

Different Russia:

She shows us her daily life in Russia. Over time, you get to know her family -- her husband and son (both named Alex) are interesting to meet and her videos give you an everyday view on life in Russia. Simplistic and wholesome.

Agenda Free TV:

Steve reports live on news events. If mainstream media is covering other things, you can be sure to catch an in depth, as it happens analysis from Steve on whichever topic he is covering.

Chase Amie:

Clad with 50k in designer handbags, her fashion tutorials are mesmerizing and make you want to purchase your own Chanel bag.

Oliver the Beagle:

His name is Oliver and he is a beagle.

The Retro Future:

Watch someone take apart older tech and put it back together. Like asmr, but for your eyes.

Alexa Lexie:

Does wonderful edits, mostly of Star Wars and other assorted fandoms.

Uni Vloggers

Izzy Snapshots:

A student at Columbia University's Barnard College, she shares her journey to acceptance at Columbia and her first year at Fordham. At first a dance major, she switch to Columbia economics in her second year. A real life look at NYC student living at a top tier university.

Holly Gabrielle:

A final year Biology student at Cambridge, Holly shares mostly study tips and her life as a vegan. Doing what the average person does in a week in one day, you'll be tired after watching her be more productive than you can ever hope to be. Candid about her past struggles with anorexia and mental health as it relates to academia, she shares unique young female viewpoints on dating every Valentine's Day as well as her average day in the life videos.

Miss Varz:

A second year student at Oxford, Miss Varz shared her academic journey, and how it isn't always linear. At first accepted to Oxford for a foundation year, and later accepted as an anthropology major, she points out the importance of Black admittance to high ranking schools in the UK (or lack thereof). As a voice that points out a lack of racial diversity in Oxford, her videos showcase her concerns and help students who are feeling that it might just not be "worth applying". She is also friends with Malala, and Malala appears in many of her videos for both interviews and games.

Ruby Granger:

A first year student at Exeter, she has shared her study and organization tips all throughout her highschool years. Positive and unapologetically herself, she shares both her disappointments and victories on camera (like being rejected from Oxford). Currently studying Religion, she talks about her path to get to where she is now and is highly focused on her academic work.

Unjaded Jade

Currently taking a gap year between A levels and University (at Bristol), Jade shares her life as a vegan. Experience oriented, her videos showcase her Gap Year (much like what Jacksgap was supposed to be, if you rememeber that!) She has been interviewed by many British newsources and made TV appearances about what it means to be a "studytuber".

Life is not a goal or destination.

It’s about the process.

Sometimes the way we think is that we see life is as reaching targets, like a checklist: you need to have a house, you need to have a family, a great job.

And we always see things as a goal and once we have that goal we’ll be happy, but we forget about the process of getting to that place.
