But also if someone really is going to decide to do absolutely nothing with their life despite being thrown a rope on multiple ocassions i would still rather they do that nothing in a clean and safe home. If someone is going to neglect their own physical and emotional wellbeing i would still rather they recieve the same standard of care as someone who doesnt.
Because i dont know if we can ~save~ everyone so to speak. As in i dont know if we can fix all those wrongs in a persons life that have lead to that point. Preventing them from happening to begin with feels less daunting than confronting the baggage thats mounted up over years. A chunk of that is at the end of the day down to them.
But i still want everyone to have a level of dignity in life yknow?

ok thats it i literally need a new job now .
#i know i bitch and moan a lot abt my job. but not without good reason!#however i really want to get out of here now today.#fucking. supervisor who keeps telling me to do more as far as maintaining the coffee area#when 90% of the issues are actually fault of the dumbass stock traders we make coffee for who dont know how to make a cup of coffee#and cant clean up after themselves. and i get that its my job but this is also just fucking stupid#and normally she tells me this stuff in the area where i brew the coffee which is more or less away from people#its at least more away from people than the hallway where the coffee station is where people always are#which is where she chose to loudly tell me more things i should be doing#maybe don't fucking do that in front of the people i do this stuff for! now they think im a fucking idiot!#like that's just. idk kind of unprofessional to me like you don't lecture your employees in front of customers#if we're so concerned abt the appearance and image of the service we provide (which this place is concerned way too much with)#then idk maybe talking abt that kind of stuff should be done more privately. or at least quietly#like she wasnt yelling at me but like everyone around could clearly hear it#but like ive said before i cant standddddd this job anymore.#so i might apply for that store leader job at gregorys coffee#even though the work culture there seems like a different kind of annoying#id at least be making Much More and also closer to where i live so#i just have to fix up my resume and make it seem like i can handle more of a management kinda job

I'll never wrap my heads around the people who just hate the concept of taxes SO MUCH that they say "sure, I could live in a clean, safe, highly educated society where everyone has their basic needs met and no one has to really worry about losing their income or paying for healthcare, but I'd rather just hoard money"
Like just...even from a purely selfish standpoint, if you don't care about other people, it still benefits YOU. A society in which there are low levels of poverty and homelessness means people are less likely to feel pushed into crime, taxes can help pay for street cleaners and good public education that promotes civic responsibility so the cities are clean and pleasant, good public healthcare means people suffering from addiction or mental health issues that make you "uncomfortable" can receive treatment and help.
A lot of conservative people, especially Americans, seem to try to deal with this by isolating themselves in car-dependent suburbs as separated from other people as they possibly can be. But you simply CANNOT escape the fact that you do live in a society. You cannot ever fully remove yourself from these problems and it is to your OWN BENEFIT to contribute towards paying for a society that is better for everyone.

Yet money is the unit of caring. And do these streamer businesses care about their chats being moderated? Do they care about this moderation being provided in a sufficient quality and quantity? Why do they care? Is it because large parts of their businesses (advertisers, sponsors, engagement) implicitly or explicitly require them to provide content moderation in their chats? Are their businesses, as such, dependent on the quality and quantity of services rendered?
Then there will come a time from which they will pay for that. The question is never if. It’s when. As a business owner, you can take on a certain amount of risk, and up to a certain point, you usually have to to even get started. But soon enough all these streamer businesses will pay, because hunger for risk always decreases with size. Some will take longer to reach this conclusion or not be able to reach it on their own at all, maybe because they lack the required business acumen or because they fail before they get to it. And yes, there will be gnawing and gnashing of teeth once they realize (or stomping of feet, as demonstrated by some of the man-children in the video). But nobody will get past that point without paying up in some shape or form.
Because the question was never really “should you pay?” It always was “can you afford not to?”
#now to be fair traditional business don't fare any better once questions like these come up#cf. all the times business complain about not getting enough applications#'ok‚ but have you considered paying a market clearing price?' - 'no why?'#but it's such a wild ride reiterating *everything* once more because some miniscule detail changes#business owners have this talent to basically try to qualified immunity their way into not paying for stuff#'do I need to pay for having my office cleaned?' - 'yeah‚ people won't do it for free.'#'ok but will they service my computers for free?' - 'no‚ servicing computers also costs money.'#'but surely having somebody content moderate the online space my business runs on 24/7 cannot cost any money???' - '...'#'counterquestion: would you provide your services for free?' - 'nO?!? what kind of stupid question is that??? I need to make money!!!'#now of course the moderator's side isn't completely blameless either in this#if you provide your services for free for a long time and let yourself be abused for the promise of power or friendship or something like th#at ... that's on you as much as it is on the other person#and turning the ship around can be hard work. but it's not something that hasn't happened thousands of times throughout history#and it *will* happen here#so there's that#most big youtubers with >50 people on payroll also didn't pay their interns at first#but there always. always. always. comes a time when the free tier isn't good enough anymore#politics#economics#mine
