City Council Members
Elections are being held today for all 13 seats on the Minneapolis City Council. Our Hennepin County Library Digital Collections include photos of many of the city council members and aldermen who have represented Minneapolis throughout the decades. In addition to these formal headshots, the Digital Collections include photos of everything from city council members presiding over the demolition of Block E to city council members on trial.
Pictured city council members (from top left):

Rough art, but wanted to show Dr Daria's colour scheme! (From here). Heavily based on her canon colours lol
For context, this is a New Yoke version of Maria who didn't have a version of Shadow at all and survived to adulthood. She's in her late 40s and thinks her relatives (the Chaos Council) are stupid and very much stands against them

searching for the silver lining here—i hope at the very least this news coming out of medinas yisrael and iran makes people realize the level of influence the united states actually has over the military actions of the israeli military (none. it's no influence. outside of economic trade (which yes is obviously an issue), the israeli govt does not give a shit what other countries think

There is a really upsetting article in the LA Times today about a dramatic rise in the theft of EBT funds - welfare and food stamps. Everything about it is so upsetting and infuriating - the thieves preying on the poorest among us, the long governmental timeline to improve security for the funds, the government's inability to quickly make the victims financially whole, the police unable to address it in an effective way... and so on.
Stories like this make me feel so powerless. I just want to scream into a paper bag. There is no entry to be part of the solution here.

a: the overwhelming amount of people in US prisons are there for non-violent offenses
b: even the ones who aren't still are people? they still have rights? it is unacceptable to strip them of rights that aren't even remotely related to public safety?

groundhog day fic of "orders", except its echo pov and he somehow gets yeeted to coruscant for it. he spends so much of the fic confused because he has literally no idea what keeps resetting the loop. more and more incredibly complicated coincidences keep happening to keep him from realizing that it's fives' death that's resetting the whole thing. when he finally learns that it's fives' death, he learns it in the most ridiculous way possible. this is the kind of dark comedy fic i think we deserve.

[Like a culinary tour of Lebanon. SBEITY: Salad bowl falafel and grape leaves on the window. FIERI: Intendas fieri bis sex respectibus illud, Derek's serving the community in another way, as well. I've been serving as a city council member, and recently, I was elected to the Utah State Senate.]

it’s sooo funny to work in the world of a city small enough and a job local enough that u accidentally get involved in chamber of commerce drama and city council drama and your local indie cinema is trying to start a beef with your employer. where’s my workplace mockumentary

the thing that irritates me whenever i see voting discourse, largely online but in person too, is it is almost always in the context of the presidency and maybe senators and congress members. when i encourage people to vote im encouraging engagement on city and state levels like your governors, mayors, state sentarles, your district attorneys, even sheriffs etc because that is where most of the issues that impact your day to day life. those are the people who will be insistuting laws in your state whether or not to make abortion legal or decided how much your local police department is funded over education. and in some places there is such low voter turn out things can be decided but a very low number of votes. and it’s republicans who pay attention and vote in these lower elections. these are also people closer in your community and easier to sway and later pressure into the changes you want to see. start looking what’s going on in you state, town, neighborhood and stop only looking at the daunting national level.

adding lore to my ghost zone nation of scene kids and catgirls and tumblrinas. one of the new details, inspired by crab rave, is that the more tumblr-based part of the community has a festival called The Raving. the event is used to celebrate the fading/destruction of corrupt individuals in positions of power. participants rejoice in the streets, usually while dressing up as crabs and eating crab-based ghost foods, though as a culture they cannot remember why there's a crab theme. also, bands perform the song
