The thing with competition in Wooden Overcoats is that for the majority of the series; Chapman doesn't see the Funns as competition. Sure he refers to them as such in the pilot but he never really sees them as competition, he's in a league of his own and he knows it, he's always baffled when anyone would go with the Funns over him and it all comes to something fishy going on so he's always proven right anyways, there's no comparison. So he gets to remain above the grudge because it really has no impact on him which has him coming off a little dense when he's like well us being in competing businesses doesn't bother me why should it bother them?

He has the audacity to get frustrated when he's treated like competition, most notably to me with Antigone in the uranium mine, Georgie during the mayoral election, and then Antigone again when digging up graves. He usually buts heads with Antigone the most on these because she's usually the one who is driving the competition on a professional level, as I've said before.

Now competition is what's at the face of the Antigone and Chapman relationship but on Antigone's side there's always that undercurrent of "perverted lust" as it says on her official character description and on Chapman's has been a vague friendlyness which comes to a head when competitior is put in direct opposition as friend and he has to actually evaluate what is actually his relationship with Antigone.

When he comes to Funn Funerals for a favor, one you would ask a FRIEND, and admits that Antigone is the one who hates him the least he has to really look at relationship with her and it really isn't "Friends" but after Match Made in Piffling that's clearly not really what he wants but being competitors sure does keep them close.
