This is where I take several characters from different Chinese media (mostly cnovels and cdrama) and run a poll on which one is the 'best'. What does best mean? It's up to you! Anatomy of a hand-stack

[prelude: me googling “what do you call it when everybody puts their hands into the middle“]

Zhao Yunlan starts, because he is the coach trying to rally the team to win the Big Game.

Next is Zhu Hong, who will take any opportunity to touch Zhao Yunlan, because honestly, who wouldn’t? Babygirl snake has seen all the sports anime and understands what’s happening here, despite how snakes do not traditionally have hand gestures, on account of also not traditionally having hands.

Chu Shuzhi is next. He does not place his hand lightly on the stack; he outright clutches Zhu Hong and Zhao Yunlan’s hands. This will make the stack more difficult to break later. Lao Chu has never seen a sports anime.

Da Qing goes next, and there’s kind of an awkwardly long pause before he puts his hand down. I can only assume he’s politely waiting his turn, since he’s farthest from the center, before realizing that if he’s waiting on those two nerds, he’s going to be waiting a long time.

Guo Changcheng’s hand comes in next. He understands the principle of the hand-stack, sure, but he’s never been invited into one before, and he’s afraid that if he misreads the situation, Chu-ge will yell at him, and he has finally just gotten Chu-ge to stop yelling at him all the time, and he likes it better this way.

Shen Wei is the last to add his hand to the stack because he literally does not understand why his friends are doing this.

Finally, Zhao Yunlan tops off the whole stack with his other hand, making it a friendship sandwich that both tastes delicious and is the closest he’s ever going to come to topping Shen Wei.

Hey Guardian fandom, does anyone remember offhand how Guo Changcheng addresses Da Qing in the drama? I remember him using Chu-ge and Hong-jie, and I have the impression it's Lin Jing-ge, but I can't remember at all what he calls Da Qing.

I'm trying to use my limited writing time to get words down rather than skimming through drama episodes trying to find a conversation where it comes up, so I appreciate any help!

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.

A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.

Nirvana in Fire Rewatch Episode Two

Xia Dong leaves to investigate the Duke Qing case.

Jinyang arrives home from the front and is bullied by his brothers.

The marriage tournament begins.

The princes court MCS, like he's a girl they're trying to impress.

MCS goes to see his great-grandmother.

MCS and Nihuang talk, before being interrupted by a eunuch beating Tingsheng.

Names and titles:

MZ’s title is Meng-da-tongling, or ‘Da-tongling’.

Jingrui refers to his brother as Xie Bi, no diminutive. His brother calls him da-ge.

Either great-grandmother calls everyone xiao-, or Jingrui was xiao-Rui as a child.

Promotional materials are great when they capture different stages of development, the little ghosts of what might have been before they gave way to the final, filmed versions.

POSTER 1: TWO BIG HEADS: I figure this one was done around the same time as these individual posters, largely because Chu Shuzhi is sporting the same shirtless, vested look in both. Guo Changcheng is actually not wearing the same nightmare onesie Da Qing has on in his flashback, which means they somehow have two of those things out there. Zhu Hong’s very stylish look is also a bit odd, but that doesn’t look like something she wouldn’t wear, just something that she didn’t. Other than that, everybody’s looking pretty much like their final iterations.

POSTER 2: PLAYING CHESS WITH INCEPTION: This one’s the head-scratcher. Our main boys look like their usual selves, as does Da Qing, but from that point on it goes mildly off the rails. Guo Changcheng and Zhu Hong are both wearing things they wore in the actual show, but their hair isn’t quite right. Chu Shuzhi has traded in his long coat for a much shorter leather jacket, knotted his (grey!) pashmina over his chest, and decided that the goth lifestyle could use some white-soled boat shoes. Wang Zheng has some kind of weird white cloak that I think may wind up on Ye Zun instead. Lin Jing’s outfit is almost normal, but the white pants and dark jacket send him in a very prep direction. And Sang Zan ... yeah, I can see why they hid him in the back row, they did not know where they were going with that yet. Does he even have legs here? Best not to think about it.

POSTER 3: NINE FLOATING TORSOS: Oh, this one’s so close. Everybody’s hair is right, all their accessories are good ... except Zhu Hong, honey, we need to have a talk about lavender ruffles and red lipstick, and that talk is just going to consist of one word, and that one word is going to be ‘no’. (Also, that flowered lace top Wang Zheng has no never makes it into the actual show, but that’s still in the ‘could wear, doesn’t’ category.)

POSTER 4: HOME SWEET HOME: This one’s my favorite -- it’s got so many cute little details. All three of the couples get to pose next to one another! Wang Zheng and Sang Zan are holding hands! Zhao Yunlan’s got a kitty on his lap! Chu-ge’s pants are blue! Everybody (except Wang Zheng, who has her flower top on again) is wearing something they wear in the actual show, too, and pretty much all the set pieces -- even the nonsensical ones -- are in place. About the only real difference is that Lin Jing’s three-monitor setup only has two monitors here.
