I'll admit that the first thing that drew me to Sophy Henn's deliciously funny "Edie is Ever So Helpful!" (2018) was the gorgeous, retro-style illustrations. Strikingly colourful, Publishers Weekly notes that "they bring to mind vintage European poster art". But I also love books that engage kids fully in the story, and Edie, with her ironic insistence that she is "very good at being helpful" when it is abundantly clear that our little protagonist is anything but, is sure to elicit gleeful protests from kids as they follow her endlessly impulsive mess-making.
