I'll admit that the first thing that drew me to Sophy Henn's deliciously funny "Edie is Ever So Helpful!" (2018) was the gorgeous, retro-style illustrations. Strikingly colourful, Publishers Weekly notes that "they bring to mind vintage European poster art". But I also love books that engage kids fully in the story, and Edie, with her ironic insistence that she is "very good at being helpful" when it is abundantly clear that our little protagonist is anything but, is sure to elicit gleeful protests from kids as they follow her endlessly impulsive mess-making. A great story for talking about thinking first and proceeding with thoughtfulness... ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutskidsbooks #edieiseversohelpful #sophyhenn #sophyhennbooks #philomelbooks #girlpower #girlpower💪 #helpinghand #storyteller #earlylearning #homeschoolfamily #preschoolers #booksforkids #childmindersofinstagram #kidslitart #childrensbookillustration #classroombookaday #firstyearteacher #booksforteachers #yeskidsbookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B9KgHzbHEGw/?igshid=po7ms997cqdm

Summer is in full swing and kids can’t stop turning the page on @jenniekwrites #poppymayberry series. . The Library Thing early reviewers said of Book 1, “This is an engaging, quick read about understanding your gifts, overcoming obstacles, and finding allies. A great book for a child-like adult, interested parent, or a child in upper primary school.” #highschoolteacher #middlegradebooks #middlegrade #middlegrademonday #yalit #middlegradelit #classroombookaday #books #booksofinstagram #middleschool #chapterbooks #tantrumbooks #month9books https://www.instagram.com/p/B0BMaoFAkh4/?igshid=1w2jiifgdok7g

Books numbered 45-48 in my 100 picture book challenge inspired by #classroombookaday are- -45: The Journey by Francesca Sanna. It fits right in with the literature circle books that we read. It tells the story of being forced to leave your country due to war and oppression. The pictures tell the emotional side of the journey. -46: How to Give a Cat a Bath in Five Easy Steps by Nicola Winstanley and illustrated by John Martz is exactly what you'd expect from the title if you’ve ever had the opportunity to be owned by a cat. -47: One Love based on the song by Bob Marley, adapted by Cedella Marley (his daughter) and illustrated by Vanessa Brantley Newton is a reminder of a song that I love with a message that is greater than most. -48: These Hands by Margaret H. Mason (a Michigan author) and illustrated by Floyd Cooper. This book is told from the perspective of both a grandfather and grandson and incorporated real civil rights movement moments that remind us of how far we've come and that if need be, we can change the course of history. *I love to bring an inclusive look at the world through picture books, whether it is genre, content, illustrations or a variety of authors, I may find a book that all the students relate to or just one student can relate to, either way, they are equally important. #RichardsReport #picturebooks #readinginthemiddlegrades #thejourney #givingcatsbaths #onelove #bobmarley #thesehands #classroombookaday #7thegradeisthemiddleofthemiddle #michiganauthor @pernillesripp @donalynm @heisereads @frencisan @winstanley.Nicola @johnmartz @cedellamarley @bobmarley @vanessabrantleynewton @margarethmason @floyd.cooper4 https://www.instagram.com/p/B8lzoBhlQs_/?igshid=u0h99htp82w3

Book 43 in my 100 picture book challenge inspired by #classroombookaday was The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base. I read bits and pieces because it was a bit long, but encouraged them to sit down with a notebook and see if they can and solve the hidden message imbedded in the text. Another reason why I couldn't read the whole book is because I took the time to tell my personal story connected to this book. My aunt Linda bought this book, for the sake of the story, let's say for my eleventh birthday. I loved it. I read it, reread it, solved the mystery, studied the pictures, saved all my notes on the book....cut to 2003...after several years of being on my own and leaving boxes of items at my mother's house, her house caught on fire and tragically burned. No one was hurt, and that's one of the reasons why I have my beloved Bill today. However, my book was gone. After an appropriate amount of grieving, I ran out to buy another copy. I will cherish it forever. #readinginthemiddlegrades #RichardsReport #picturebooks #eleventhhour #graemebase @pernillesripp @heisereads @donalynm @graemebase @classroombookaday https://www.instagram.com/p/B8U86BHlKzL/?igshid=11v8w4eqmdrhu
