When Chevron of Earth-555 meets a parasitic alien, Venom.
(Might simplify this a bit later, but this is what originally popped into my head when I was at work)… also very liberal with the design cuz it’s an alien and it’s anatomy doesn’t have to make sense.

Wait, Spider, did you invent the Queer Chevron flag??? That's been my favourite flag for years specifically because of the historical significance of the colours (what with mallow and lavender flowers being so important symbolically to the burgeoning community at the turn of the 20th century). Plus the purples just soothe me, they're so nice. I even have a character with tattoos that were partially inspired by it. You really knocked it out of the park!
So the original flag idea came from a conversation between myself and @officialqueer many and many a moon ago, and then there was a whole community conversation about it. I think it was @bizexuals who made the actual first graphic? It went through several iterations, some of which were discarded for accessibility reasons or just not putting off the vibe agreed upon.
We wanted something that would specifically be easy to use in art and reproduce on merch, something that used simple, easy-to-obtain colors (two shades of similar-but-not-the-same purple and white or off-white), and something which had historical significance but was not directly derived from any existing flag. We didn't want to just 'mash a bunch of other flags together,' we wanted something which would be new but draw from past symbolism.
The two purples are lavender for the 'lavender menace/lavender scare' & the violets used to signal sapphic attraction. We used a chevron because... well. We're not straight. And when possible the background should be an off-white or cream, to signal eschewing 'purity politics' or respectability politics.
The shorter answer is that no, I did not "invent" the Queer Chevron flag -- it was a group effort which took weeks if not months -- but it was born from an idea that I had with someone else, yes. :) It is @officialqueer and I's baby, and we love it.

Propaganda: There is really no one else like them. Landing in the middle of the New Romantic era in London, the Pogues married punk’s contrarian tendencies with the fire of Irish folk music. They made music about displaced immigrants, political prisoners, and Celtic warriors, including the most popular Christmas song year after year in the British Isles, ‘Fairytale of New York’ .
I wasn’t prepared for how sad I’d be when Shane MacGowan died this past November, even though I’d been expecting it for a while.
The Cross

Fun detail I noticed while playing Spider-Man 2: when you activate Peter's symbiote surge ability (analogous to the rage ability of Shattered Dimensions' Ultimate Spider-Man) his black suit takes on a subtly different appearance, more closely resembling Venom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice the texture of the suit (fleshier and more veiny), the lack of white chevron on the wrist and wider set spider emblem that goes OVER the shoulder when surge is activated.
Also the surge mode suit is erroneously labeled as Spider-Punk in the photo mode. Anyway here's some silly pics of the black suit.

| The Most Dangerous Game | Excerpt | 💙🔪💔 |
.
.
.
Frisk glanced up, a shiver that felt like a spider crawling slowly up her spine creeping up through her skin, the static in her feet climbed with it. She sucked in another breath of musty air.
“Ibrahim?” she called again, forcing away the waver in her voice.
Her legs moved awkwardly through the maze-like halls of her house. The photo stabbed like thick plastic in the palm of her hand as she searched for their bedroom. The HVAC sighed, and the house seemed to creek with it.
Her breathing was uncomfortable in her throat. Almost painful. Her feet staggered as if urging her to pick up the pace. At the end of the hall was a large window. Heavy chevron curtains fluttered in the stale A/C. Her eyes were drawn to it. Her heart beat heavy in her chest.
The hallway felt stretched. Her feet swayed with the new sensation of vertigo, as if she’d go falling downwards.
There was a long buzz in her ear. Like parking lot fluorescents. Flickering against the far away window. Just past the dark reflection of the musty, chevron hallway… just past the visage of her form staring back at her in that glass…
She swore she saw the faint outline of bulbous figure, a man, watching her. A grisly beard itched around a giddy grin. His fleshy, wrinkled face was hollowed out by the light and almost made him look like a living corpse.
The faint glint of his wild sclera flashed at her. His fleshy hand, greened by the hallway light pressed against the window as if to wave to her.
Her breath hitched.
Those fleshy fingers began to tap, slowly against the glass.
Tack… tack… tack…

My 1986 shoot with Shane MacGowan of the Pogues was such a brief, strange encounter that I never really held it in much esteem when I was scanning images for my old blog. But a single image from that shoot did end up in one of my photozines, so I decided to revisit the whole fleeting episode again. The story is pretty simple: the band were on tour, with a stop (on my birthday!) at Toronto's long-gone RPM club way out on the old industrial blocks of the city's eastern port lands. Elvis Costello was lurking backstage; he and Cait O'Riordan, the band's bassist, were recently married. I sat in on an interview with members of the band like Spider Stacy, James Fearnley and (I think) Philip Chevron, but asked if it was possible to get a portrait of the conspicuously absent Shane to go with the article.
I was told that it was possible, but that I'd have to wait a little bit while they got Shane ready. Eventually somebody called me over and walked me out to the parking lot where the band's tour bus was parked. I was told to wait outside while two of the handlers went inside and closed the door. I heard some voices, and when the door opened again Shane was led out of the bus, wearing sunglasses and obviously, as the kids say today, tripping balls. I was asked where I wanted to take the photos, and the handlers led him to a spot with the lake behind Shane. I took a couple of shots with the sunglasses, then asked him to take them off. I asked him to look around, then up. He complied blandly; I knew I wasn't going to get much more and said I was done. The handlers nodded their heads, then led Shane back to the Pogues' tour bus. I revisited these shots with the aid of the neural filters that come with recent updates of Photoshop, cleaning up the scrappy old negatives and even colourizing one of the shots - a subtly unrealistic result that might approximate MacGowan's own perspective that day.

The Chevron Spider, Ronny for short, has a black belt in tae kwon doe from when she was younger and never thought she’d have to use it. She’s sensitive to sound, being that her heightened spider gift is vibrational manipulation (she also just likes listening to music… a lot).
