For him to have woken her, she would've needed to be asleep... And Mahia felt she'd not slept at all, yet, since her rescue. The relative silence on board here was almost worse than the constant yelling, banging, and rushing footsteps of the previous ship. The absence of sound rang in her ears. And the quiet made way for doubts to creep in and take hold of her mind, unable to avoid focusing on them when there was not the continuous terror, or sedative haze to keep them at bay.
In lieu of rest, she wandered. Any place she had access to, she explored... just in case, searching out any place she could hide if the need arose, if his hospitality turned sour, though, she understood that would likely be useless. Still, it soothed her mind. A tiny taste of control among this chaos. It was in the midst of one of these explorations that she'd stumbled on him like this. Half-dressed. Every scar across skin exposed in the light, and Mahia found herself staring, unable to drag her gaze away. She knew he had them. She'd seen them on his arms, peeking out from beneath his sleeves. But, seeing the extent of them, now, caused her stomach to drop. So like her own... healed wounds weaving a tale of hurt, and pain, and frigid blades carving in as casually as into a roasted cutlet. Nausea built and was swallowed in the same breath. Not toward him, but for the cruelty of it all, and memories his scars brought her.
Even shaking her head felt a feat. " No... No, you did not. I just could not sleep. ---- Am I disturbing you? "

He'd had to remind himself of that fact repeatedly in the course of the last day or two as he'd done what he could to help nurse the young woman back to a state the might resemble normal. Healthy. He wasn't particularly inclined to hand over someone as fragile as his passenger over to them. So, he lurked, skating the fine line between running over mission time and awol. Cortana had been playing hopscotch with their signal to keep ONI off their back and he'd done his best to keep himself busy by putting in additional time into his training in the hi grav gym, needing a way to expel the pent up energy and frustration, and he was heading towards the restroom to grab a shower, stripping off the damp shirt to chuck into the wash when he heard her, the distinct whisper of the rub of feathers against feathers that accompanied her light steps. #ableism tw#(( ooc. ))#venting tw#when i'm in a 'be as ableist as possible ' competition and my opponent is my mil 0_0#i can't drive. its not safe for me to drive. i don't have a license#it's not a good idea for me to get a license atm bc my health issues make it so i would be a risk and danger to myself/others on the road#but trying to explain that to mil doesnt stop her ( and husband ) from making snide little comments about how immature and childish#i am bc i dont drive. how im just lazy bc i 'choose' not to drive. guilting me really hard lately bc there's been some circumstances#that would be easier to deal with if i could also drive... and she made sure i knew that. repeatedly. so did husband#man. the ableism doesn't end. screaming at me and throwing literal tantrums about all the housework not being done to her standards#bc i literally collapsed halfway thru. treating me like shit due to my anxiety disorder and panic attacks. aka acting like i'm just being#'dramatic'... when my ptsd / anxiety are kicking my ass#and husband not having my back with her makes it all the worse. anyway. sorry rant over. gonna get back to writing
