I picked up a couple of these X-Men Ultra Collection (1994) issues at a sweet Black Friday sale. They are gallery issues, with the typical art styles that dominated the early 90s. Things were not quite at peak extreme chiclet-filled grimacing and pouches everywhere yet.

they should make shopping for cables easier i think. there should be a service where you pick the ends, you pick the length of cable, you pick the like. color and texture of the cable (shitty plastic, nicely woven, bare metal, whatever) and then they make it and ship it to you for a reasonable fee

Fight Club

Damian is sitting on a roof during a patrol, bored with no crime happening in his area, about to go find one of his siblings and annoy them/steal their jobs, when suddenly a voice comes out of nowhere.

“Hey, are you busy?”

He turns around, startled by how he hadn’t sensed anyone, to see a girl about his age with black hair and blue eyes just… sitting there.

“I am capable of assisting you.” He says, because he is trying to be a Good Robin and not dismiss civilians.

“Oh no I don’t need anything.” The girl says, shrugging. “If you’re on a stakeout i can go. I’m just bored. And you look fun to fight.”

Damian stares at her. She stares back.

“You think… I would be fun to fight.” He repeats. She doesn’t look like she could take on a trained assassin. She looks like any random civilian. Then again, she had snuck up on him.

“Yeah.” She shrugs, as if this is in any way normal. “So. You too busy?”

“…no.”

“Oh, awesome.” The girl bounces to her feet, and in the next second, Damian is ducking a punch as she grins brightly at him.

“I’m Dani by the way!”

YES OMG. I went to an anime convention a few months ago and saw SO many cheap bootlegs being sold as if they were authentic items. Being an experienced collector, I have a good eye for bootlegs so it didn't affect me, but I couldn't help but think of all the people who were duped into buying a crappy $30 bootleg that they could have gotten on Aliexpress for like $2.

#the most egregious case was this one person selling these beautiful light-up displays of fake bonsai trees with figures perched on them #they were going for well over $100 each #but when I actually looked at the figures it was obvious they were cheap bootlegs that probably cost the seller less than $10 #the light up displays were probably from AliExpress or Temu as well #it just pissed me off because finding authentic figures for relatively cheap is very possible on sites like Yahoo Auctions Japan #but it's not as easy and cheap to use a proxy as it is to just order directly through a site like Temu #so guess what people choose to do instead #dropshipping #anti dropshipping #anime #figure collecting

So I bought this painting of the Cutty Sark in a charity shop for 50p. And on the back it’s got this placard - pretty cool, right? Obviously it’s staying

Obviously the frame is a little busted and it can’t hang but that’s a 10 minute fix.

So I remove the card first thing to save for later and —

It’s a fucking menu. And apparently a really fancy one - it got French words. I’m laughing my ass off because some guy cut out a description of the Cutty Sark from a restaurant menu and stuck it to the back of a painting of said ship. At this point I’m having a blast and joking that “Oh, what’s next, the painting itself is gonna be from the dessert menu, I bet!”

IT WAS THE FUCKING WINE MENU. And this has to be ancient because £1.25 for a bottle of wine?? 20p for a glass?!

So quite a few decades ago some guy stole a menu, took it home, then cut out the painting of The Cutty Sark and it’s description and framed it to presumably hang on their wall. And now it is in my home, on my mantle and whenever I have guests over they’ll go “Oh what a nice picture of a ship!” But they won’t know. Only I will know that it is in fact the front piece of a wine menu. Like. The process behind how this came to be.

I’m keeping this forever.
