ranking the hokage by how much i care about them

tsunade. obviously she's number one no explanation needed i love her she's wonderful. no questions no criticisms i love her. should have killed those two elders instead of just dropping them on the floor but i guess making them live with the shame of not being worth her time to kill is good enough. straight up deserted and was so cool they made her president anyway

hashirama!!!!! he's insane. i think he could have been worse frankly but nobody's perfect. worst divorce of all time. married to a woman he may not have even known existed bc he was too busy staring at his bestie's ass. enslaved and traumatized nine sentient chakra creatures for political purposes and never felt bad about it. causes problems just by having dna. would forgive him for everything instantly bc he's a cutie pie

Cozy Winter Season

You're sitting on the couch, warm and comfortable, protected by the cold, unforgiving snow of Konoha's winter. Despite your comfort, you feel a small tinge of anxiety.

You wonder if Minato is okay.

It is quite cold outside, especially with all the snow it must be hard for a shinobi to work in such conditions. Your eyes dart to the clock for a moment.

tick... tick... tick...

The sound of the clock's consecutive and rhythmic tick was a reminder of each second Minato did not arrive back home in time. But these thoughts of yours, they're nothing, nothing but thoughts, they aren't always true, and you know that. You remind yourself that it's often that he stays at the Hokage's office this late.

As a few seconds pass by, you unfocused your eyes from the clock and reintroduce your mind into the TV. You listen in to a cheerful show. It seemed to be a Claymation of a reindeer with a shiny red nose, a short and sweet movie.

As snow catches on the windows outside, you start to feel more relaxed. The snow on the window dims the room until you are left with a small few candle lights and the rays of the television.

The scents of the candles filling your nose with a pleasant newly baked cookie smell.

It was quiet...

And Peaceful...

Now, you know somewhere within yourself that he is okay. Shinobis are adept at adjusting to their surroundings, especially the hokage himself. And you knew he would be coming home soon.

Despite your nagging anxiety, you find solace in your thoughts and flop onto your side, your body relaxing as the couch curves to fit your body. Grabbing a pillow from underneath your neck, you position it just right so that it's right under your head.

As you rest, you hear something at the door.

The fumbling of keys, shuffling, and humming. You knew who it was.

It was your lovely Minato, here after a long day of work.

His hands struggled to put the key into the knob. Without even looking at him you knew he must be freezing.

You quickly got up with a small grunt, leaving your cozy and comfortable spot on the couch.

As you walked over to the door, you quickly and gently opened the door. Minato looked up from his keys and smiled happily, excited to see you. You're relieved to see him too as you quickly pulled him inside.

While being pulled in, snow trailed behind him, heaps piled up by the door and the balcony and now into your home.

A cold breeze from the outdoors sends a number of chills down your spine, all you wished for at the moment was Minato and to be cozy and warm with him again.

However, the snow trailing back into the house was none of your concern right now. You felt his cold body against yours and you shivered once again. His hands gently holding you as you brought him inside.

Minato looked down at you with a smile as he spoke in a calm manner.

"Ah- Thank you. I was having trouble opening the door, but I suppose that was because of how cold it is outside."

He chuckled slightly as you started to take off his coat that was covered in clumps of snow. You take your hand and gently rub it against his, letting your thumb glide across the back of his hand as you noticed how cold he was, it was almost incredible that he was able to make it back home without turning into an ice popsicle.

"You're freezing."

You whispered under your breath, sighing a bit.

You were worried for him regardless of if he was fine or not. And his calm manner and gentle demeanor of his was something special, he was so calm and happy all the time even after trudging through the snow to return back home.

"Gosh, Minato. Let me help you, you're freezing."

You urged him, still holding onto his body as you ushered him onto the couch with urgency.

All Minato did was look down at you with loving eyes and a small smile, his gaze filled with nothing but warmth and love as he willingly and quietly sat down on the couch.

"You're so good to me. What would I ever do without you?"

He smiled wider, a sense of comfort filled your heart as you looked at his face, his face turning a slight red from being reintroduced into a warmer environment after being in such a cold area. You couldn't help but smile yourself as you looked deep into his eyes for a few moments.

You grabbed the blanket you had previously been using and wrapped it around Minato's body with care, making sure nothing from his being was left out. All warm and cozy.

But was it enough?

After you ran through a few more blankets and pillows, you turn back to him, realizing how silly this looked.

Minato was absolutely covered in blankets and pillows, making him appear as if he was in a small tent.

"Wow. You've outdone yourself, huh?

He starts to laugh, but he loved how you wrapped him so tightly just to keep him warm, how you cared enough about him to open the door and how you so desperately kept him warm. His content eyes gazing longingly at you with affection.

You've tuckered yourself out...

Though you felt embarrassed by the sheer number of blankets you put on him, you still felt a smile tugging at the corners of your mouth as you tried to hide a smile, your cheeks blooming into a pink color.

You decided this was enough. You lay yourself down onto the couch, seeking comfort in the multiple blankets on the couch as you go under a few, crawling to get to Minato's body. He grips your torso and gently placed you on his chest, rubbing your temples with his cold and rough hands as you both begin to feel the heat of the house consume you.

You never thought you could love someone so much. As corny as it sounded, even in your head, everything you've heard about falling in love was right. This feeling was special, something important and valuable. You looked up at Minato's face, and though he was distracted at first, he noticed you in the corner of his eyes and gazed back down at you. He pulled you up some more and pressed gentle kisses on your forehead, one kiss after another around your face and head.

"You're so sweet."

He whispers, nuzzling your ear teasingly.

You were both happy, letting the warmth of the blankets envelop you completely as you melted into each other.

Recently, I just added Rin Nohara as a muse on my naruto blog @musesofchaos, and I knew I had to design her for the verse where she manages to just barely survive her demise. Getting stabbed by your crush, even though it was your own choice, and nearly dying would understandably mess someone up. Despite the smiles and her still kind nature, Rin's view on the world has shifted because of the incident, not to mention the overwhelming guilt she feels for inflicting such pain on Kakashi. She's scared that he hates her, resents her. That's far beyond the truth, but she doesn't know that. So for most of this new arc I'm developing for her, she's keen on staying as far away from Konoha as possible. I wanted to symbolize that change through clothing that one at first may think that Rin wouldn't have gone for. Keeping some of the colour scheme of her old outfit to show that she still has those old parts of herself left. I also admittedly just wanted to go for something different from the other older fan designs I've seen to her, which in my opinion are a little boring? Of course no offense to those artist, but I feel like a lot of people just try to incorporate her genin design into her adult design and I wanted to bring something more unique to the table. Anyway, I hope ya like her! She was a joy to draw : )

I'm kinda curious about the period of time when Minato was Hokage, because there's so much you could say about Konoha depending on it. It could be that I don't remember what the manga says about it too, but anyway.

We know that before Minato was Hokage, the discrimination towards jinchuurikis was high. We know it from Kushina's story. After Minato, the jinchuurikis discrimination was not exactly as bad as it could have been (and the bar is soooo low) in physical terms, but the level of sheer isolation was ridiculous. Sure, Kushina had guards and she lived in a tower with a perimeter drawn around it, one that she couldn't surpass. The difference is that Kushina knew why she was being isolated, there was someone willing to teach her about it right from the start, a family member even if distant, someone with the same experience.

All Naruto knew is that he was unwanted. He had no family, no one was willing to guide him. No, not even Iruka. I'm talking about before in the manga, before Iruka realized how much Naruto needed him and did something about it.

If that was before and after, how was it during the time Minato was Hokage?

Did Minato push for Kushina to become Hokage? Was the idea rejected? Did he get angry? It was her dream after all. Or did they realize it would be impossible so they pushed Minato to go for it? Were they sad about the idea of Kushina having to live her dream through Minato, because they wouldn't let her go for it? When did Kushina give up and change her goal in life?

Did Minato tell anyone about his plan on how to get rid of the jinchuuriki discrimination? Did he talk about it with Kushina? We know that they planned Naruto's birth and tried to make it as safe as possible. When the time to seal Kurama within Naruto came, they both knew how Konoha would treat Naruto. Minato wanted Naruto to be viewed as the son of a hero, but his wishes were thrown aside as soon as his body was cold enough.

With no law to protect the jinchuuriki of the kyubi, I wonder how bold the people of Konoha were in their discrimination against Kushina while Minato was Hokage. Times were different, Minato was highly respected and feared, but how many times did he have to tell someone to mind their words? How many times did he catch Kushina avoiding a certain restaurant or a street? Did he ever feel a slight of resentment against his home for the way they treated his wife? His pregnant wife?

Were there rumors of the child being a monster for being the son of a jinchuuriki? It could be that some Konoha parents telling their kids to not play with the little Uzumaki/Namikaze was a thing before Naruto was even born?

From what I've seen, Konoha has no gentleness for kids of prestigious lineages. Being a child of a powerful shinobi makes your life worse, in fact. A million times over: it happened to Sasuke, to Neji, it happened to Kakashi in the generation before them, it happened to Itachi in the in-between.

I don't think that being the son of the hokage would have saved Naruto for being mistreated by the village. Not when his mother was a jinchuuriki.

It just makes me wonder, you know?

In the time he had, how did Minato try to change things to protect his family?

Was it a matter of needing more time? Or there wasn't a plan at all?

#I've realized this reads as if I'm harshly criticizing Minato #as always the problem is not within the character but the plot holes in the story itself #Kishimoto clearly presents Minato as a man who loves his family but not always does the best for them #he struggles balancing his duty to konoha and his role as a father and a husband #it is a fact that he failed to protect Naruto #but the lack on information about his time as a hokage makes it seems like he waa failing his family before Naruto was even born #it contradicts what we saw of him in the newest Naruto one-shot #he created the rasengan to protect Kushina and help her be free and safe #he reacued her when she was kidnapped #he stood up for her #they seemed to love each other deeply and Kushina had the temper to chase after him if she thought he was avoiding her for example #sealing kurama within naruto was really bad but in the end he had little time and there were on a big crisis #I wonder what type of pressure was put on him while he was Hokage #even when he was really smart and dangerous and whatever he still was young #he failed his genin team too #I'm sorry but all those pieces are not in Minato's favor #which makes him a great character for being complex and compelling #but anyway #maybe I am criticizing Minato but not in bad faith okay?#minato namikaze #kushina uzumaki #naruto uzumaki #naruto #naruto shippuden #naruto classic

the whole minato/kushina thing becomes a lot less painful if you decide, based on crumbs of context viewed under a certain light coming from that oneshot, that minato is kushina's satelite.

by which i mean that the only reason he became hokage was to fulfill her dream. she's under lock and key so he'll go out there and be an outstanding malewife by becoming someone she can life through.

it's still depressing as hell but at least it's not "woman has dreams until housewifery cures her of them"

no because the prophecy child/great evil as minato’s reason for sealing the kyuubi into his newborn is so much more boring compared to the other reason he gave which is that it was his duty. kushina begged him to let it die with her because she didn’t want to inflict her life on her son but minato was acting as a hokage before a father because it was (as he knows it) his duty as much as the jinchuriki’s to guard the kyuubi and if he has to sacrifice his son and martyr himself to do it then so be it.
