Cave fish time!!
Cryptotora thamicola or the waterfall climbing cave fish are extremely rare, found in only eight caves on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Like most cave fish they are blind and pigmentless but what makes them special is there ability to cling to walls and climb up flowing water.

The Mexican Tetra! It's got a regular ol' river fish form and a special fancy blind cave fish form, pictured here. Some populations have some intermingling between cave and river forms, and an intermediate, half-cave-half-river form can be observed.
[ID: an illustration of a pink, gold, and white cave fish, with no eyes. the background is water, dense with aquatic plants, and several other fish (both the tetra's cave form and silvery, seeing, river form) are visible. end.]

The world’s largest cave fish from Meghalaya, Northeast India, is a new species, Neolissochilus pnar (Cyprinidae, Torinae)
Abstract
The world’s largest subterranean fish was discovered in 2019, and was tentatively identified as a troglomorphic form of the golden mahseer, Tor putitora.
Detailed analyses of its morphometric and meristic data, and results from molecular analyses now reveal that it is a new species of the genus Neolissochilus, the sister taxon of Tor.
We formally describe the new species as Neolissochilus pnar, honouring the tribal communities of East Jaintia hills in Meghalaya, Northeast India, from where it was discovered. Neolissochilus pnar possesses a number of characters unique among species of Neolissochilus, with the exception of the similarly subterranean N. subterraneus from Thailand...

To me engineers are kinda like those fish that got trapped in a dark cave and lost their eyes so now they navigate (and therfore survive) by sucking (the fish literally the engineer metaphorically).

Deep cave fish are so precious.
They don’t have a sense of cold nor fear of the dark (nor even know about the concept of light). They don’t know that where they live is a literal nightmare that make creatures fifty times their size (me) shiver at the thought. They just chill and live in those underwater caves.
So badass

I did fauntober this year instead of Inktober. Posting a little late but oh well. This is 1-10. I'm torn between the fern playing the fiddle and the babirusa pig as my favorites.

it is my honor to introduce you to the waterfall climbing cave fish, a rare species of stygofauna (subterranean river-dwelling creature) from Thailand. A unique limb structure allows it to cling to rock and navigate flowing water.
