I don't want to work together with my friends or family members, I want to crush them into the dust and assert my superiority.
In a way that has clear cut rules, I don't have to talk about my emotions and no one gets hurt.

I didn’t think to take a picture till after dinner but better late than never. This is right before clearing the table off to play Settlers of Cataan, which D won, but it was a close thing, with three of us getting to 9 points. They took some of our duplicates, too, assisting in the house control project.

for NEVERMORE????? what a question
normally i would pick enemies to lovers but for nevermore i would pick forbidden love. unfortunately nevermore only features platonic love though.
VILLAIN - do you prefer creating heroes or villains?
call me a pick me girl, but i prefer multifaceted characters who aren't 100% either or - dark heroes and justified villains, that's my bread and butter. and you, my friend, my problem, can vouch for me on this one because you once spent three days yelling at me about that one girl in if only we knew. what the heck was her name. winona? her murderous rage was absolutely justified anyway and we all know it.
for nevermore specifically? i guess i'm gonna have to say heroes cause like i'm looking at my lists of ocs and like shanyu is fine i guess, joon is a horrible person and i hate him, seonhwa and hana? loml. can't let them go. jinae? mentioned her in passing and now i'm just searching for an opportunity for her to be relevant. she's my reserve driver. just give me a reason.
UNICORN - what makes your WIP and your writing stand out?
yeah sure i'll talk myself up. i've always thought that my fics are very niche and scratching a specific itch, which i think is the main reason i've always found it really hard to build an audience. it's what i love though, and what inspires me - following the usual tropes doesn't satisfy me the way that a whole thinkpiece on a weird sidecharacter does...or yknow. blowing that thinkpiece out into a 200k novel.
recently, i think that my writing has become far more refined, and i think i've started to find ways to slip into more popular genres of fic while still remaining interested in my work, which has in turn granted me the audience that i've built around things like queenmaker.
in this way, zombies was a really important phase in fanfic for me to go through - though we got very little out of those three years apart from our own satisfaction in the fics we wrote and ideas we explored, i think it was really beneficial for me to meet you guys and be encouraged into writing oneshots and stories featuring the main characters rather than continuing to hang around the fringes and work with ocs or side characters that i treated like ocs.
and now i'm learning new lessons from self insert and smau fiction. the world should fear and respect me. one day i'm going to become a god.
TREASURE - what's the best thing about the world of your WIP?
a mean question to ask about nevermore when you know how gd endless that world is. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. can i say that it has source content for me to lean on and i didn't have to make it all up from scratch?
i guess i can say that, because one of the things that was the most fun was digging around in music videos and lyrics to figure out how many worlds there were, how to connect them in a way that in turn made the story make sense as i followed it in album order, and how to turn a very vague and wild lore into a story that had a bit of followable logic attached to it.
in lieu of that answer being accepted, i was thinking about this the other day and i love that it's a world that you kind of do want to fall into and live in. i really worked at making miroh a kind place that you really would love to stumble into, rather than a world like the hunger games or something where you're like, mmmm, it's a cool idea but lets not go there. the cle really is a world where it's like, hey, if you really love music, you would love this place and it would love you!
GOD - does your world have a religion? is it, in this world, right?
for valleys? mmmmm yes, i suppose the wolves and the urshing/cataan's people do have their own religions, and they are right. in a way, strigoi also worship moonstone, though that's more of a drug addiction kind of thing than religion.
the wolves have a strong shared history and belief system, they pass down their history and prophecies through songs and stories and carry out rituals. their religion is built around the existance of moonstone and the connection of it to their life force - and they also have seers who can tell the future and are held in high regard. their beliefs are all based around things that are true, and their seers really are capable of creating prophecies that will come true - so i suppose that yes, their religion is right.
the people of cataan also have seers and mindreaders, children worshipped as the elite of their society and catapulted into power just by virtue of the talent they were born with. They're probably, actually, a very unreligious people, but they do have prophecies that they believe in, and an almost cult-like type of society.
QUEEN - what is the earliest planned historical event in your novel?
geez what a question. there is a point where theresa literally witnesses the creation of the universe so like. is that it. does that count?
in terms of the chronological events of the novel uhhhhhhhhhh. the apocalypse is a pretty big historical event that happens pretty quickly. so. yeah.

i think ive bitched before but there's a guy at my work who just. sucks. like takes no initiative, goes below and behind on every single thing he's asked to do (on the rare occasion he IS asked to do something). he has no responsibilities to keep the branch running-- he manages no collections, he doesn't do anything like i or my other coworker does. he never volunteers to help with anything. he sits and plays settlers of cataan on desk. and because he's a man and my awful managers Special Little Boy, he doesn't get reprimanded AT ALL. my other coworker busts her ass shelving and organizing things and i take point on like every project, constantly volunteer, i do the schedulez i manage a bunch of spreadsheets, i manage several collections, etc etc etc. my other coworker is criticized SO harshly by management despite the fact that she does 10000x more than him in an average day. and I am 95% sure his bitch ass makes more than me -- me!!!!!!!! the most senior tech here!!!!!!! and the worst part is that he does not listen to me when I tell him he did something wrong. like I'm the one who sees his quality of work more than the managers do. I'm the one who cleans up all his messes, or gives up and does something for him because he's too stupid to follow directions to do it himself. I'm not his manager so he doesn't listen to me. I'm gonna start fucking tattling on him to his manager then.

5. Describe their cozy night in.
Cozy night in, huh? Well, assuming they're not ordering something, Kerra's doing her best to cook--not that any of them are stellar at that alsjdfadsf but she's both a) ostensibly slightly better and b) willing to give it a shot. They're all talking the entire time that the food is being prepped. They're probably not paying that much attention to said food because they're distracted, either by the conversation or each other. The food ends up (mostly) not burnt somehow.
Honestly, they're probably just vibing with talking/being in each other's proximity/making out/etc., but I was also trying to think of other activities they might do, and I now have a great image in my head of the three of them playing whatever Tyria's version of Cataan is alskjdfasd xD I support this; tis canon now.
8. What happens if one of them gets sick?
This question made me realize that, while none of them have gotten sick canonically speaking, one of them has gotten injured on more than one occasion to the point of needing recovery in bed for a bit, and that's specifically Kerra. The curse of being Commander xD
But to actually answer the question, none of these three are going to ask for a ton of extra help when they're sick, I don't think. Nisha gets the most extra attention (because it makes xem the happiest, even if takes them a while to admit that), but they'll absolutely all drop in on each other to say hi and/or drop off snacks/fuzzy things/medicine/etc. Kerra is the worst about properly keeping her distance from whoever's sick, which results in her getting sick the most for a bit and then just...generally Not, because she's built up immunity to a lot of things, lmao.
(Side note, I now Really want to know how the sylvari immune system works...hmm...)
17. Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?
Kerra overall by a smidge, but she and Canach are both equally likely to do it to Nisha specifically because it makes xem extremely flustered. (And it usually turns into more of a dip situation rather than just pulling xem in, since Nisha is significantly taller than both of them!)

Going off on that discursion about GoT Board Games “attrition” of players (its still a decently popular game, but yeah its not super big these days - of course my thread was about a niche communiy within the game, not even the game itself), I think a lot of people would say “why is anything but ‘time’ needed as an explanation here - all games fade”. But actually all games don’t! They fade a bit, sure, but Cataan, Ticket to Ride, they became staples. It even happens in complex game world, idk Terraforming Mars? And games like Risk and Diplomacy are certainly mega-staples.
We might say “its different for them” but when they came out they were games like any other. As i mentioned Game of Thrones Board Game came out in 2003, second edition in 2011 that was a great era to come out and ride the ‘wave’ of rising board game trends. Most don’t, of course, obviously. And its majority luck. But I think there are other factors at play and you can learn by digging into it, its a question worth asking.

Hauntology response to Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
Last week we watched the movie Everything, Everywhere, All at Once by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. Our class discussed many of the different themes from the movie - love between family members, everything and nothing, the meaning of life. The comment in class that really resonated with me came from Andy, when he referenced the everything bagel. He related the "everything" in an everything bagel to how narrow our scope of "everything" actually is. An everything bagel only has 7 seeds on it. Were the writer's of this movie being sarcastic? I hope so. I enjoy conversations on the meaning of life, but only when they are in the context of the truth. We wont ever know what we're doing here. And our tiny baby human brains are not going to be able to comprehend something so far out of their own reality.
This idea of not being able to understand our reality - that were all trying to make sense of whats in front of our senses - reminds me of the art world. The movie also makes light of the seriousness of this question. As art students/ artists, we are trying to do something new or interesting. It's hard! Everything is contrived. I think this movie helps remind one to look at things a little more lightly. Your work need not be too important or serious, because we are not too important. Search for meaning, but have fun along the way. That is what I am trying to do.
I just recently 3D printed a Settler of Cataan board piece that i designed. I am very proud of this. I am excited to finish printing the whole game and play with my friends. It feels good to have a small win in this grad program as I have not created anything that I am super proud of yet. So here I am - searching for meaning in my grad school program while printing 3D objects that bring me joy.
