Also Hob going from assuming Rue hated him to assuming they just like, didn't give a shit and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Him becoming further smitten, not even realizing he's turned towards the peonies? The longing, the angst, the painful misunderstandings, this might be my favorite d20 season yet honestly.

Hob knew Wuvvy wouldn’t say why she challenged him to a duel. If she wouldn’t tell him alone in his tent with no one else to hear there was no way she’d say it in front of so many archfey. Hob knew Wuvvy wasn’t going to say so he used it to his and the Goblin Court’s advantage.
Of course the Court of Wonder would send a proxy instead of one of their own. They can’t bear the shame of a proposal being rebuffed by a member of the Goblin Court, much less people finding out about it. Or god forbid anyone question why they were dueling in the first place. So it’s much easier to send a member of the Court of Hoof and Claw that everyone knows is close with one of the most respected members of the Court of Wonder. And then when said proxy refused to say the reason for the duel Hob did as he said he would and told the truth. It’s a masterful maneuver that makes the Goblin Court shine in a far more positive light. On top his bout with Andhera ending positively and Hob making it clear that Andhera’s honor is clean. Hob comes off every bit the gentleman. While the Court of Wonder get another stain on their quickly deteriorating reputation.

Yknow. When Hob asked Andhera if he was really pursuing Grabalba, I for a moment saw his relationship with the Viscountess as indicative of a protective older brother. It's been mentioned that he's felt isolated in the Goblin Court, and while many of his superiors mostly treat him as the "blunt instrument" he is, how he interacts with her is very different from Blemish, Boil, and the Goblin King, but it's also different from his Salt Goblin soldiers.
He's very polite and cordial with Grabalba and while it is his job to support her, he treats it with a far more casual air. It's less like an assignment and more like a personal endeavor. He's the unfavored older brother whose definitely eager to please his "parents" but everything in regards to his "little sister" is completely voluntary. His openness about her little quirks, even if they cause difficulty with the Goblin Court's relations with the other fey and yet he speaks of her with such a degree of love. It feels like Hob's end goal with the romance of the Viscountess is less "secure new ties that were lost from the betrothal to Prince Apollo" and more "honestly, I just want to see her happy with whatever partner she chooses."
The intraparty relationships are definitely emphasized within the campaign, but with how Hob interacts and talks about her, I really get the fact that he's probably Grabalba's biggest fan and loves her dearly, even if he expresses it in a rather regimented and composed manner. In turn, she seems to relish in how he dotes on her. I might not have the best memory, but iirc their interactions in the hedge-maze are rather indicative of this as well.
And I think it's cute. Grabalba is such a fun and cute character living her best life as the 3'0 bat Goblin trash queen she is, and Hob is just so full of love cheering her on the entire way.

[ID: A drawing of Delloso de la Rue and Captain Hob, both from the shoulders up; each is in a separate panel. The first panel is of Rue in their true form, adorned with flowers. The second panel is of Hob, looking shocked and blushing. There’s little hearts floating around him. End ID.]

I thought I was over my ACOFAF and RueHob hyperfixation but I just looked at art and quotes again and now I’m swooning again.
I’m not tall (medium-short, actually) but I’ve always been chubby and awkward, and felt like I didn’t belong in social spaces. I know Oscar hasn’t always been a plus sized person, he was a professional dancer before he got injured, and though I haven’t seen younger pictures of him, I assume that means he was more athletic looking. But he *gets it* when it comes to the bull in a china shop feeling of being a fattish person in a decidedly not fat group setting. And Brennan 100% nailed the Too Tall, Too Much Body feeling too, and even described trying to keep his arms tucked in and his shoulders rolled and hunched to not take up too much space. The way they separately came up with “my character doesn’t belong here but is forced to be here” characters, and didn’t intentionally mean for that to lead to anything all that romantic is so fascinating to me. And they just saw that their broken parts matched up over the course of the story 😫
It makes me feel things. That’s the kind of angsty romance I desperately enjoy and is so hard to find in a sea of celebrated toxic romances being described as angsty.
I would like to see Oscar Montoya do all the things, and enjoy so much success 💜 He’s brilliant and insightful and lovely and so funny. As soon as I can get a free weekend pass for Starz, or something like that, I’m going to watch Minx, because he said he’s really proud of being in it, and filming it helped him feel less self conscious about his body, and that’s such a wonderful thing 💜

Oscar Montoya is such a naturally gifted storyteller. I'm in awe of how organic and confident his self narration is as Rue. Its honestly incredible considering they've never played d&d before. Not only that but he bounces off Brennan SO well, Brennan arguably being the MOST experienced player at the table who is also a phenomenal storyteller in his own right. They're giving each other so much to play with, meaning the drama and misunderstandings and longing gazes between Rue and Hob feels so impactful! Watching two very different but equally skilled storytellers playing off of each other this season has been SO satisfying to watch.

Oh my god Hob thinks Rue just. hated him and thought he was gross?!? and he's so upset and confused about why and no one will explain it to him I-
"Rather than having the courage to explain to me why my affections would be so onerous" this is the worst misunderstanding ever I love it

The Hob/Rue romance is just if those two core parts of Mr. Darcy were courting each other. Hob is the whole “I’m tall and have anxiety+ someone who I’m trying to protect” Thing
and Rue is “I’m in love with you, I’m going to write dramatically about it, but oh god shit fuck society god wait give me the letter no one can know oh shit was it hold on no wait-”
