WARNING *** Mild(?) Spoilers re: Kafka/TB relationship
"One day, Elio handed you over to me. He said that things continue to transpire according to future possibilities he foresaw, you could eventually change me, and I would change you. In other words, you and I are each other’s destiny." Kafka, to the Trailblazer in a Truth or Lie game. That was the truth answer.
YESSSS I FINISHED THAT MISSION YESTERDAY!!! it’s so interesting how she chose to tell the truth here, and how she could’ve asked anything but chose questions only pertaining to the trailblazer’s view of her.
“What do you think of me?”
“Do you want to see me again?”
When captured by the Xianzhou, if you choose the “you don’t look like you’re in a sorry state” option she says something about how she wouldn’t want her capture to change their opinion of her. and i’m like, does she actually care? is she just being teasing like she’s known to be? obviously, she needs the trailblazer for the future she’s working towards but does what they think of her matter at all if they’re each other’s destiny regardless? she talks about how destiny is a labyrinth and how different choices will lead you to the same outcome, plus she doesn’t seem like someone who wastes time on inconsequential things to me.
i’m slowly uncovering stuff about their relationship and it’s honestly so fun!!

'She' by Dodie
She smells like lemongrass and sleep
She tastes like apple-juice and peach
Ohh, you would find her
In a polaroid picture
And she...
Means everything to me

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
