you might have thought the best bit of bg3 is all the hot, romanceable people with intriguing personal trauma but actually that's just the 2nd best thing. the best thing is being able to befriend and adopt almost? every animal/baby monster you come across and then PET THEM
(you can throw a ball for the dog now and also summon him as a familiar, kinda like the cat in divinity! also i just like talking to the owlbear cub, it's soo cute, they added some more scenes with it from the EA)
the best game of all time was tales of symphonia ONLY and SPECIFICALLY because you can pet every single dog in the whole world. and then in a second world also
getting older can be so amazing? you get more familiar with yourself. learn tips & tricks for troubleshooting your own brain. trial & error helps you build routines that minimize discomfort, maximize reward. your preferences/interests don't get set in stone, but you do find out which ones are going to stay with you in the long-term, and which ones are fun but transient joys to appreciate in the moment.
you learn that the world is so much more complex than you were taught, and that that's okay, and that there's an endless supply of things you can learn or watch or experience or think about if you want to. if you're lucky, you loosen up, stop putting so much pressure on yourself. if you're lucky, you learn to recognize that negative inner voice, and whack it with a baseball bat until it hushes up. if you're lucky, you learn to treat yourself gently, not because you are fragile but because you are worthy of gentleness. (i hope you are lucky.)
and some things will change. some things will get better. some things will get good. and maybe you start to recover from the dehumanizing stress of childhood/education. maybe you learn the power of your own autonomy. maybe you learn how to walk away from bad situations (which is a superpower even if you don't realize it yet). and you get to choose your own clothes. and your own food. and which relationships to pursue! and what you do with your free time. and with your life (but don't worry you get to choose that gradually). and that's crazy! and sometimes scary. and extraordinarily, indescribably precious.
In my desperation of trying to be productive while absolutly dunking on my sleep schedule, I thought it would be generative to post a WWA (where we're at) update.
Hi! This is Wizard Rogue, over the past 2+ years, while also doing College and Uni stuff, I've been working on the Wizard Rogue project! It's a 2D open-world roguelike using Godot 4 with plenty of planned lore, secrets and bosses.
Atm we've got most of the generic stuff all done and dandy, like moving entities, pathfinding, health, items, UI stuff, tile chunks, hats and plenty other stuffs. A lot of what I'm struggling on right now is where exactly I want to take development.
Rn I'm still completely unsure on how a lot of the interations with the game is gonna go: How combat is gonna work/feel, whether you'll be collecting items and crafting with them, whether you can mine out walls and tunnel into mountains. Idk- still trying put a lot of my thoughts and ideas down into writing… just so I can get a good grasp on how it'll playout.
I'm also taking recommendations and ideas, so feel free to pop me some if you get the chance!
Like earlier, I spent a collective of hours filling up my Github Issues with all of the things I'd want to eventually add. xD
Hopefully I'll have all of them done by the start of 2024 (Least for some sort of demo)
I'm interested to know how y'all go about tackling huge projects like this too!
Is picking out things for the week from the todolist, completing them, playtesting/feedback, then adding more stuff to the list and repeat, a good schedule to have?
I've been veeerrrry slowly carving my way through BG3. But I think I keep getting captivated by the wrong scenes? Like when you had to dig up a dog's grave for a free steak.
My durge is a civilized nutbar tief-rogue named Typhus (because I forgot that’s just a disease and not something you name an English bulldog), and he’s only holding himself back from slaughtering innocents because of the Dark Urge to resolve friendly NPC storylines. He’s also a desperate slut who wants to get you out of those clothes so he can see your sexy, sexy character development. Whatever you’re into, c’mon. Yes, he’ll even let you put that in there.
