Press Release: Southstar Drug x Maxicare Fun Run in Naga City
Why Running is a Must-Add to Your Wellness Routine
Did you know that running has been proven to make your brain literally grow by aiding in the creation of new brain cells? This helps improve a person’s overall cognitive function and reduce cognitive decline when done regularly. Aside from this, there’s a plethora of other health benefits that you can enjoy when you start lacing your shoes and getting those steps in every day. Read along to know more!.
Strengthens bones and muscles
Because it’s a high impact exercise, running helps improve bone health and can increase bone density. The stress applied to your legs, pelvis, and spine whenever you run allows the bones to repair and strengthen themselves. Similarly, running also helps build muscles in the lower body, particularly the glutes, thighs, and calves.
With strong bones and muscles, you are more protected from injuries plus your balance, coordination, and flexibility are also improved.
Reduces risk of chronic diseases
Various studies have already proven that regular physical activity like running can prevent and/or better manage chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol that lead to heart diseases as well as diabetes and many forms of cancer. Together with the right diet and healthy lifestyle choices, running can improve the quality of your life so you can be at your best every day, not just for yourself but for your family as well.
Enhances mental well-being
Do you ever notice how your mood always seems to be much better after a good workout? It’s the endorphins and serotonin working their magic! Aside from improved mood, running also works like meditation in the sense that it can give you peace of mind and allow you to stay in the present, helping you manage and relieve the stresses of daily life. So the next time you feel overwhelmed or anxious, consider going for a run for an instant pick-me-up.
Interestingly, adopting running in your day-to-day routine enables you to improve other aspects of your health and wellness, including what you eat, how many hours you sleep at night, setting goals, and taking control of your time. This holistic approach is what Southstar Drug and Maxicare aim to promote through Run for Wellness.

2023—thursday, jan 5
so here’s my first post for 2023. sinulit ko yung time with J since dumating siya ng Manila nung 30, ilang beses ko sinubukan mag blog post kaso sa sobrang busy busyhan namin masyado, di ako maka compose ng sentence haha. ang dami naming ginawa at pinuntahan.
so ayun, will kwento later ng mga recent ganap ko. medyo tinamad ako chumika dito after nung pasko e. haha. kamusta naman new year niyo? hehe

SARI SAYSAY’S TITSER, TITSER: A DETAILED AND IN-DEPTH REVIEW ON CHARACTERS AND THE PHILIPPINE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Tumblr media
“Napapagod din ako! Minsan gusto na ring sumuko. Pero pinili ko ito. Pinili ko maging titser.” Those are the words of Teacher Emily that struck me the most until the end as I watched the last rerun show of Sari Saysay’s Titser, Titser.
Indeed, being a teacher is the noblest profession. The role of being a teacher does not end within the four corners of the classroom, there is a weight in being a teacher as they also serve as second parents as well as role models. They play a pivotal role in nation-building. Kaya hindi ka, “teacher lang”.
Just in time as we celebrate World Teacher’s Month, the rerun show of Titser, Titser, not only did it brought together the local theater enthusiasts but also the academe as we honor the sacrifices of teachers through this form of art. Through Sangre de Naga Theater Company Group, an adaptation of Sari Saysay’s Titser, Titser was made possible and the local theater scene in Naga is finally back after two years under pandemic, arousing intense emotions through the accurate portrayal of poverty and realities in our Philippine educational system, especially in public schools.
Titser, Titser centers its story on the life of Emily, a public school arts teacher and a first-time mom, who returns to teach in a limited face-to-face class after two years of being in a flexible learning set-up due to the pandemic. As she adapts to the changes, her students are also about to embrace something new in their lives.
The character of Teacher Emily was brought to life by Bel Borja as she genuinely showed us through her flawless acting, making us all moved by her internalization of the character she portrayed- a very passionate and dedicated public school teacher, an understanding wife, and a loving mother. Teacher Emily’s compassion for her students and her concern for each one of them was well reflected in the play as she is open to helping her students not just in passing the subject but also as someone that the students can rely on. She treats all her students as if they were her own child. We were able to see that in her interaction with her students Almira and Emman. The complexity of her character was well portrayed and realistically showed us the struggles of being a public school teacher while also juggling her role as a mother and wife at home.
“Titser ka lang! Hindi ka magaling! Ni hindi mo nga magampanan ang mga tungkulin mo rito sa bahay dahil nauubos ka na sa mga gawain sa paaralan!” Those are the words of Jonel to Emily that really stung the most. It was like an arrow pierced into our hearts. We were the ones hurting for Emily as they fought about it every day. The character of Jonel portrayed by Marky Puso also made our bloods boil as he effectively portrayed the hot-headed and unsupportive husband of Emily. Seeing how he complains a lot about Emily being a teacher is a manifestation of a husband whose ego was badly hurt because of his wife’s dedication to her profession. I think that this one was accurately portrayed because there are really those kind of husbands who do not want their wives to outshine them and the typical mindset of setting gender roles in fulfilling duties at home. Jonel is stuck with the ideology that if you are the wife, it is your duty to take care of the child, your husband, and the house. If you are the husband, it is your duty to work as the head of the household.
Another notable acting performance that we cannot seem to ignore is the character of Almira who was portrayed by Ann Padin, also broke our hearts and brought tears to our eyes because of her tragic fate. Almira is a student of Teacher Emily who was inspired and dreamed of becoming a teacher someday. She is a smart and diligent student. However, her dream of becoming a teacher fell apart as it was later revealed in the play that Almira was molested and raped by her father. In the end, Almira decided to end her life due to shame and knowing that she carries the child of his father. Her perspective of teachers as perfect role models made her give up on her dream of becoming a teacher. “Hindi ako pwede maging teacher. Kasi diba ang teacher perfect?” These were the words of Almira during her conversation with Emman before she decided to reveal her traumatic experience to Teacher Emily. We can all agree that this is something that happens in reality. Almira’s character represents all those in poverty whose dreams are crushed because of family traumas inflicted on them.
Teacher Michelle who was portrayed by Melody Ramos was also an entertaining performance that brought balance to the setting. Teacher Michelle brought some laughs into the air with her witty remarks and a production number before convincing Teacher Emily to sign the loan papers for their promotion. Overdressed with a scarf and borloloys, Teacher Michelle is the typical Marites and fashionista type of teacher with her make-up always on fleek. Although we do not get to see what kind of teacher she is in the classroom, we get to see a glimpse of her character through her interactions with Emily. She also portrayed the aspect of being “madiskarte”, the teacher who also seeks another source of income because of the inadequacies and inconsistencies in practicing the profession of teaching in public schools. I think we can all agree that we have also encountered these kinds of teachers too.
And lastly, Emman who was portrayed by Kenneth Galvante, seemed to be a minor role but actually played a significant role in bringing into light the struggle of students living in remote areas. I can clearly remember when Emman said this to Almira, “Paano matin ipipinta ang mga bagay na hindi naman natin natikman or nararanasan?” Emman is also a dreamer. He is one of the students of Teacher Emily and is friends with Almira. He is always late for class because he had to cross the river to get to school. Emman is the kind of student who misses his classes and fails to submit projects on time because he would rather help his father and work instead of going to school. There are also a lot of Emman in real life because of poverty. It was poverty that pushed them to either continue reaching for their dreams or bury them- telling us that sometimes to fulfill one’s dream will never be a privilege but rather just a choice for the poor.
I was left in awe as the story was concluded. To my dismay, it was an open-ended story but that actually made an impression too because we wanted more. We wanted to know more about what happened after they all went out to find Almira, Emily leaving Jonel, handling the case of Almira, and how it has affected all of them. I was dumbfounded as we are left pondering what happens next. I was at the height of my emotions and then it ended just like that. We are left to marvel at how the story really ended or create our own version of the ending to our liking. We can never be truly certain. Were they able to save Almira as she drowns herself in the river? Will there be redemption for Jonel? Can Emily save her marriage and family that has seemed to have fallen apart?
I am deeply moved by each character as they are real people that we actually know and exist. Although this is a work of fiction but through this form of art, it makes us appreciate even more the dedication and sacrifices of our public school teachers. This is also an eye opener of how much public school teacher struggle in practicing their profession and how flawed our educational system is in the Philippines. Our teachers are not well compensated but they continue to serve willingly in the name of teaching. How I wish that we and our government could do more for them. It takes a village to raise a child.
The showing of this play is very timely. As someone who just took the recent Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET), this actually made me realize a lot of things. Whether I get to practice the profession or not, I know that what makes a great teacher is their passion and dedication to serve- to inspire and educate young minds to dream big and hope for a better future.
Isang malaking pagpupugay sa lahat ng ating mga magiting na guro, mga makabagong bayani sa modernong panahon. Happy World Teacher’s Day!
Also before I end this review, I would like to congratulate the Sangre de Naga Theater Company Group and kudos to te entire cast and crew for a successful rerun of Titser, Titser. This is definitely worth watching. Let’s support local artists and local theater groups. Let’s bring back the theater and art scene in the city of Naga. Let’s continue to spark awareness on social issues by taking our broken hearts and turn it into art. According to Cesar A. Cruz, “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable”.
Mabuhay ang Teatrong Bicolnon! Here’s to more shows to come.

Looking back, I often see her, Sec. and former Mayor Jessie, and the kids wandering around Naga. I often see them during PTA meetings, family days, and other school events in Universidad de Sta. Isabel. Tricia was a former classmate from grades 2 - 6, that was in 2001-2006. And even then, their family was among the ordinary families in Naga - going to church, strolling in malls, eating out, and this is not a surprise -- you can also see them at the bus terminal, waiting for their ride to Manila. It was so amazing that a former classmate and her mom are now in the headlines, about to become members of the first family.
There was also an instance in 2013, VP Leni, was a congresswoman back then, she was a guest in the same event I volunteered to participate in. The event "Parangal sa Mga Manghahabing Bayani" was an event to recognize the jute weavers behind a homegrown bag brand - Mr. Kengkoy. The humble congresswoman appeared in the events hall wearing a simple black dress, who just came from another engagement that day. She was calm and very soft spoken, and very, very humble.
Fast forward to 2017, I luckily bumped into VP Leni and Tricia at the bus terminal. I was with my parents and sister. My papa and mama were pushing me to talk to Tricia to have a picture taken with VP Leni. I was really shy but ended up doing what my parents asked me to do. It was a very short kumustahan. Tricia just said that it was really a long time since we met in person (I think that last time was when we were in high school, we did some grade 6 class reunions). She also asked me where I am currently working. And I just answered briefly. I was REALLY shy. My parents were also able to talk to VP Leni saying that me and Tricia were grade school classmates in USI and have been in school events with her and Sec. Jesse. VP Leni responded that she remembered seeing my parents too! And yes, her memory is really sharp and even if she's the second highest official of the countrty, she's still very humble. And as were leaving the bus terminal, we also learned that my ate, who was also travelling to Manila for work was luckier because she got to ride the bus with VP Leni, Tricia, and Jillian.
February 8, 2022 was the kickoff rally of VP Leni, Sen. Kiko and the Tropang Angat in CamSur. I was so excited to go to work that day because I it feels festive, seeing all the preparations made in various towns in CamSur and Naga City. I was also monitoring the Facebook live feeds in my computer while working. I really felt the joy that the Bicolanos experience during fiestas such as the Peñafrancia Fiesta held every year in September. But due to the pandemic, the festivities were suspended. As soon as my work ended, I and my bestfriend, in our hot pink and old rose shirts, decided to attend the Grand Rally in Plaza Rizal. We carpooled and parked the car at SM City Naga and walked going to the venue for we were assuming the entire Panganiban Drive will be closed, or if not, we'll be stuck in traffic. Slightly tired from our walk, we decided to eat our snacks to fill our tummies before joining the crowd of Bicolano Kakampinks. Naga Garden, known for serving delicious mami and siopao, was filled with people - young and old, wearing their Leni shirts of different designs and shades of pink. "Wow! Solid! Lupet!" That's what I was thinking. I was full of hope and am very proud that VP Leni, the most qualified and competent presidentiable is from my hometown - Naga City.
** Online rallies. News on the upcoming election. Trolls/bashers **
I just recently attended the One Pink March, the second grand rally of Leni-Kiko and the Tropang Angat. I was really eager to attend the said event and even signed up as early as March. Belonging to the employees who work in shifts, I eagerly requested and insisted that I may be on off duty during the grand rally, May 6, 2022. I even bought three kakampink shirts and pink items to show my support. I hate being in crowded places, being under the heat of the sun, and being stuck in traffic but I didn't mind those simple discomforts. I just wanted to show my support and let my candidates win for the Philippines - for a better nation! And that flame of hope lit up when VP Leni decided to run for the presidency in October 2021. She has been working tirelessly, showing resilience and resourcefulness to every calamity, fighting corruption, aiding the pandemic, and helping each and every Filipino live a better life. But despite doing an excellent job, she became the center of fake news and trolls.
Election Day - May 9, 2022
EXCITED! I left the house after eating breakfast and without taking a bath yet because I wanted to vote already! I waited for an hour for my turn (I'm kinda lucky my voting precinct isn't as crowded as the others) but didn't mind the waiting time and the summer heat. And then, my turn finally came! I WAS HOLDING THE BALLOT AND THE MARKING PEN! I WAS A BIT TENSED that I might invalidate the vote! I might commit an undo-able mistake in shading the circle. BUT I WAS FULL OF HOPE! I was very happy to have casted my vote to my most deserving candidates. I was proud of myself for not messing up. I am a voter. I was a proud Filipino. When I got home, I was monitoring the updates via twitter about VP Leni and the other presidentiables. I was also excited that I might bump into VP Leni somewhere in the streets of Naga. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I wanted to see my beacon of hope so baaad! >.<
Loads of Disappointment
The results of the election was a disappointment. It crushed the ball of flaming hope in me. I was devastated. From the time the first partial unofficial result went out, that was just 3% of the election returns, until the votes of BongBong Marcos reached 30M, I can hardly look at the figures. I can't look straight at the monitor. I was brokenhearted but still hoping that there are glitches in the results.
The day after the elections, a thanksgiving mass for VP Leni was held at the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. I had the leisure to attend to it but I was really tired, devastated, and heartbroken. I didn't go. But I passed by the streets of Naga, it was still filled with pink banderitas, ribbons, ornaments, tarpaulins, and murals. I also passed by the Solid Leni Bicol Headquarters in the Carmen Hotel. Everything was still intact but there's a big thing missing - the excitement, joy, and hope that was birthed during the campaign period.
I reached home and opted to attend the thanksgiving mass virtually. I can still feel the sadness. And it might even be sadder if I was physically present in the Cathedral.
Coping Up -- dream about VP Leni :)) FB live, pink museum
Pasasalamat -- Angat Buhay Foundation
I wanted to meet you in person, my beacon of hope! :D

WEEK 3 OF MY DAILY BASIS
Hi guyssss, I just wanna share to all of you what happened during my whole week.
Hi guysss It's Monday again as same routine woke up early to cook, because there was no class because it was holly week but I still did the things that needed to be taken care of at school, and around 3pm we went to the mall to buy food and after that we went home, and then at 10pm we were hungry so we cooked food.
It's another day it Tuesday agajn so this is what happened in my day, at 6am I went out to buy bread and I also buy water. And at 1pm I didn't realize that I fell asleep, and I woke up when Ate Malou came, and she ordered me to go to the other house to get a candle and get some clothes, and when I got home I was scared because I was alone and I feel like I'm with someone there as in it's creepy so I quickly left and got into the jeep and while I was riding in the jeep there was a handsome man sitting next to me I swear it looks like Ronnie Alonte sheshhh, and that's all and I arrived home safe.
its Nov 1, undas, so in the morning ate Malou and I made flowers to take to the cemetery, and before we went to the cemetery we first went to S&R with Ma'am Ajoy and sister Malou, and we bought a few things for the house, and we also ate pizza and burgers, and while we were there, ate Malou bought unlimited drinks, so we had unlimited drinks, and then I had a tumbler with me, so I filled my tumbler of soft drinks haha its funny right so that's it. And around 9 p.m we went to the Eternal Garden, and when we got there there was like dance, song and so on, and there were also coast guards there, and we went to my grandfather's grave and we stood still we lit a candle there and we only stayed there for about 1 hour and we went home.
Hi guysss its Thursday i woke up in the morning because i need to cook for our BREAKFAST, and I washed our clothes and after that I cooked lunch, and in the afternoon we packed our things because we were going home to ate Malou's house and as in it's tiring to carry things back and forth but it's okay.
So today is friday another day again, same routine in the morning cooking breakfast and washing up, and around 4pm we went to CWC CamSur Watersports Complex Sports complex in Pili, Camarines Sur because Ate Malou said she wanted to go jogging and when we got there we immediately noticed the sunset because it was really beautiful and around 6pm we went home so when we got home my body hurt because of the length we ran but I was happy because for the first time I also came to CWC.
Hi guys today is Saturday so guess what, what happened in my whole day of course I cooked our breakfast and after that WE did general cleaning so I was very tired the whole day because we cleaned a lot as in but it's fine just because it feels good when your environment is clean, and that's when around 6pm I went to Ma'am Ajoy's house with Angel, because we were leaving early for Calabanga because we had an intrams the next morning that's why we slept at Ma'am Ajoy's house.
Todays is Sunday I woke up exactly 3:30a.m in the morning because we were leaving early for calabanga because the events started early, and when we arrived in calabanga we first attended mass and then we went to the Octagon and gathered there, at around 10 AM the ballroom, cheerdance, impromptu and spoken poetry started, and in the afternoon badminton was held, and while I was sitting, I was suddenly called because I was the one to play Badminton, solo women, as in I really didn't I was the only one to win because it was the first time in my whole life to participate in the game of badminton. So when I won I was very satisfied, and around 5:30 in the afternoon the other students went home and the others stayed behind because they will play badminton because the game must end now because the next day there will be another game which is volleyball and basketball and at 8pm we went home to Tinambac.

It's another day it Tuesday agajn so this is what happened in my day, at 6am I went out to buy bread and I also buy water. And at 1pm I didn't realize that I fell asleep, and I woke up when Ate Malou came, and she ordered me to go to the other house to get a candle and get some clothes, and when I got home I was scared because I was alone and I feel like I'm with someone there as in it's creepy so I quickly left and got into the jeep and while I was riding in the jeep there was a handsome man sitting next to me I swear it looks like Ronnie Alonte sheshhh, and that's all and I arrived home safe
its Nov 1, undas, so in the morning ate Malou and I made flowers to take to the cemetery, and before we went to the cemetery we first went to S&R with Ma'am Ajoy and sister Malou, and we bought a few things for the house, and we also ate pizza and burgers, and while we were there, ate Malou bought unlimited drinks, so we had unlimited drinks, and then I had a tumbler with me, so I filled my tumbler of soft drinks haha its funny right so that's it.
