This video got randomly recommended to me (probably because of the world cup). Anyone else remember when this scandal was the most hilarious thing to come out of that year? Well, unless you were an Australian, that is.

love & human remains / 1994
admittedly i did only watch this for thomas gibson and didn't read the synopsis before watching so wasn't particularly sure on what the film was about but i enjoyed it. i'm someone who enjoys films that are just characters having a chat (before sunrise i'm looking at you) and that is really what this is and i think it really worked. i'm not sure i can explain why but this gave me the same sort of feeling as naked (1994) - i think its the style of cinematography but there's something else i can't put my finger on. i also think so many lines from this were ridiculously funny and it makes me disappointed that this isn't even verging on being a cult classic - specifically "honey i'm homo". the tie in between the two elements of the story was enjoyable but i still felt like i wanted to hear more - though i guess that was beneficially to the (predictable) build up and reveal, it showed the characters' initial indifference through to their direct experience.

CALLING ALL BRENT CARVER OR MICHAEL J FOX FANS!!
I know, guys! There is MORE lost media.
#canada #cbcnews #canadianbroadcastingcorporation #lostmedia #justice #WeWantJusticeRightNow.
The Beachcombers was a 19 season long show, spanning from 1972 to 1990. Many people grew up with the show, but similar to many other CBC based projects and shows, it was lost due to poor care and treatment. This CBC-based loss disrespects Jackson Davies, Shirley Milliner, Reg Romero, Bruno Gerussi, Brent Carver, and Michael J. Fox, similar to their loss of Leo & Me (1976) and Witch of Westminster Crossing (1977) just to name more of their faults. The show was a gem for Canadian history and it was by far the longest running Canadian show. Many people loved the series, but are now unable to watch it due to the CBC's lack of care for the show. Many of the actors whom were in the show have since passed away or have gotten fairly ill, which adds much more salt to the wound. The CBC is ruining legacies and will not stop unless we make them. Sign this petition today to show that you care, both to the world and to the CBC. Sign for change, sign to help, sign for respect. Sign for whatever good cause you want to contribute to. We need help. We need it soon. Media-destroying events happen all the time, especially in Canada, such as wildfires and other catastrophic disasters. Any number of unstoppable things can happen, and the likeliness of the show being permanently destroyed is increasing by the minute. Justice for Brent Carver, justice for Michael J. Fox, justice for Jackson Davies, Justice for Reg Romero, justice for Bruno Gerussi, justice for Shirley Milliner, justice for Pat John, justice for Robert Clothier, justice for Rae Brown, justice for Joe Austin, Justice for Cameron Bancroft, just to name a small percentage of the innocent people affected. These people all deserve justice. One signature contributes massively to the cause. Help us make the change.
These people never deserved the loss and disrespect that the CBC brought them. The injustice was never mentioned in the fine lines of the papers they signed. They had no idea this would be brought unto them. Justice for The Beachcombers.

Amazon Watch Party Watch: Gorilla at Large (1954)
Watched: 02/03/2023
Format: Amazon Watch Party
Viewing: First
Director: Harmon Jones
So, to my complete surprise, I liked this movie semi-unironically.
I found it weird that this movie starred fairly big names for the time. Not huge stars, but knowable names and more than one of them. It has Raymond Burr, Lee J. Cobb, a young Lee Marvin, Cameron Mitchell (before he spiraled into camp), and Anne Bancroft here to remind you she is, indeed, a very good idea. I was not familiar with Charlotte Austin, who plays the virginal character, but who could scream like crazy and had great hair (and was in another gorilla movie in 1958 called The Bride and the Beast, penned by Ed Wood Jr.).
At around the 70% mark of the movie, I think it was Jenifer who pointed out "this is gorilla noir", and she was not wrong. This is absolutely murder mystery noir, set against the backdrop of a carnival, with a gorilla as a character, and plenty of intrigue to go around. The movie is knowing enough that it constantly plays with expectations, and I had no idea how this thing would wrap up until the end.
It's also, visually, very interesting. Shot at Nu Pike Amusement Park in Long Beach. I thought it was the same location as Woman on the Run/ Gun Crazy and others, and was very wrong. My takeaway is that California had some great amusement options in the 20th century. (The Burglar was filmed in New Jersey, so I was way off there.) But as something shot originally for 3D presentation, and in bright technicolor, it's a fascinating bit of visual cotton candy, including a dynamic scene with a mirror maze (that I'm not clear on how it was shot without showing the crew standing behind the camera, tbh).
It's not challenging the AFI Top 100 as an underserved, underseen classic, but it's *interesting*. Including the bizarre decisions that led to the finale.
