Tumblr media
sooo people (r*na’s) are starting to talk about this. Im getting a little worried, i mean there’s nothing to be worried about i know my pw will be engame but this still could mean something, right..:(
Meg Donnelly talked about HSMTMTS in a recent interview and she revealed that she had filmed a lot of scenes with Matt Cornett which means EJ and Val will have a friendship. "When we filmed High School Musical, most of our scenes were together so that was really cool. It was so easy and so comfortable and we actually got so much closer on the High School Musical set. It was really weird not seeing him in a blue wig, but nonetheless, it was great." (This part is from an anon but still addresses what you're asking about so I'm putting it t/g.)
Here's the article everyone's freaking out about LOL. I have quite a few asks in my inbox about this part Meg talks about, so I will try to answer them all today (some t/g to save time). First thing first, let's all take a nice, deep breath. Okay? Breathe in. Breathe out. Now, I don't think we need to worry all that much just yet. Didn't we all predict months ago there was a strong possibility EJ and Val could be childhood friends from camp? Maybe they’ve been attending Camp Shallow Lake since they were junior campers and have always been close friends. Does Meg’s quote here really surprise anyone? To me, it just (partly) confirms Val and EJ may share history/a friendship and they’ll use it as an opportunity to show EJ’s growth as a character from the last time he attended camp (when he food poisoned Emily so Nini would be the lead). Val was presumably there at camp when it happened. But EJ doesn’t operate the way he used to (during his selfish 1.0 days) and Val may very well call attention to that. If they are good friends, maybe Val will let the audience know that she sees a real change in him from last year. He’s not who he used to be. The EJ now is “a really good guy” (2.08) who tries to do the right thing (in the right ways this time!) Just b/c “most” of Meg’s and Matt’s scenes were t/g doesn’t inherently mean that’s the end of Portwell lmaooo. Meg also said a few weeks ago that she feels like ppl will “really like” her character, even tho Val will contribute to some drama this season. I don’t think she would make that claim if most of the audience was supposed to hate/dislike her. I’m not getting antagonistic vibes from Val given her character description, which implies she won’t be just another Lily. Tim also said the Wildcats would “come head-to-head and heart-to-heart with Shallow Lake campers Jet, Maddox, and Val," which very well could mean Gina misinterpreting EJ and Val’s relationship at first before she has an eventual heart-to-heart with her by season’s end. Please keep in mind this show spent 2 whole seasons building Gina and EJ up as individual characters first, then progressed their story t/g. It took them 2 seasons to even agree to go out on a date together. With S3′s timeline being only 2 weeks, I doubt Val will cause any lasting damage to Portwell. This is the first season that they’re dating and we, the audience, get to see EJ and Gina as boyfriend and girlfriend for the first time. It’s more likely Val will force EJ and Gina to confront any insecurities in their relationship during these 2 weeks than Val causing them to permanently break up. Plus, as far as we know, Meg will be guest starring only in S3. I don’t think we’ll see her character again for any future season(s) considering Val may be based in California, not Utah. I get the feeling once the trailer is released, Val’s part in the trailer may be deceptive in that it’ll look like she’ll cause bad drama for Portwell, but it could actually be the good kind of drama that will help strengthen them in the long run. TLDR: don’t stress over Meg and Matt sharing “most” scenes together in S3. I know Portwell have a tough season ahead of them, but who says they won’t continue on this journey together? Val might just help EJ realize just how much he cares about Gina and how different his relationship with her is from his previous relationships. We just won’t know until S3 starts airing.

12 New Thrillers To Take You Through To Autumn
As the nights start to draw in, you may find yourself hankering after a chunky darker read to match the view outside. Maybe you’ve still got a cosy staycation on the horizon before the end of the summer and want to throw yourself down a twisty path of secrets and lies. I’m a magpie for good, page-turning mysteries and complex, well-written characters, so I wanted to share my favourite 2020 thrillers with you in the hope that you’ll find something intriguing. Enjoy and stay safe! -Love, Alex x
1. Dead To Her by Sarah Pinborough.
Tumblr media
In the sun-soaked, wealthy social circles of Savannah, Georgia, Marcie Maddox has finally managed to establish herself as the centrepoint of this lavish, sumptuous world. Then her husband’s boss brings a beautiful new wife back from London and Marcie’s place in Savannah society begins to look a little precarious. How far will she go to maintain her position and keep the wandering eyes of her husband firmly on her? Flawed, unpredictable characters and curveballs everywhere, Dead To Her is a revenge thriller that incorporates sun, sex and superstition.
2. Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell.
Tumblr media
When vulnerable 17-year-old Saffyre Maddox goes missing, the entire Hampstead community have their own ideas about what happened to her. With local reports of sexual attacks on young women, Cate Fours, mother-of-two and wife of Saffyre’s former psychologist Roan, has her suspicions about Owen Pick, the odd single man who lives opposite them. Invisible Girl is unnerving, twisty and highly addictive with believable characters who you both suspect and empathise with. A unique, mind-fuck of a domestic suspense novel.
3. The Octopus by Tess Little.
Tumblr media
Despite not having spoken for ten years, Elspeth is invited to celebrate her ex-husband Richard’s 50th birthday at his stunning LA mansion, so she is surprised to discover that there are just seven other guests in attendance. The next morning, Richard is dead and of course, everyone is a suspect. Including Richard’s pet octopus Persephone. This strange, heady mystery has strong Christie vibes and explores the haziness of memory, the horrors and repercussions of abusive relationships and the dangers of power.
4. Nothing Can Hurt You by Nicola Maye Goldberg.
Tumblr media
When a student is killed, her boyfriend confesses citing temporary insanity. His acquittal rocks the community and everyone has questions, creating a relentless search of justice and explanation. Inspired by a true story, this riveting mystery reads like a collection of short stories, as we hear from a multitude of voices of varying degrees of closeness to the victim. Focusing on gendered violence and white privilege, it’s a very timely haunting read.
5. The Search Party by Simon Lelic.
Tumblr media
Sadie Saunders has been missing for a week and the whole town thinks she is dead but her brother, boyfriend and three of her friends are determined to find out what really happened. However, the search party quickly takes a dark turn and all of them are under suspicion, when secrets gradually start to spill out. Stephen King-esque character dynamics and a completely unpredictable ending, The Search Party is a claustrophobic multi-layered mystery that will keep you hooked.
6. Imperfect Women by Araminta Hall.
Tumblr media
Nancy Hennessey has been murdered and naturally, her two best friends Eleanor and Mary suspect her secret lover to be behind it. When the investigation turns up nothing, Eleanor and Mary each struggle to deal with their grief amidst questioning how well they really knew Nancy. Imperfect Women features highly frustrating characters and an intensely intriguing mystery with themes of motherhood and lifelong female friendship. A stark reminder that life rarely sticks to our plans for it and that we should learn to love our imperfections gives this dark story a glimmer of light.
7. You Let Me In by Camilla Bruce.
Tumblr media
Reclusive writer Cassandra Tipp has disappeared and no one knows whether she’s dead or alive. She has left her huge fortune and a manuscript addressed to her niece and nephew, full of instructions to follow and the truth behind all of the gossip and rumours that have haunted her life. Elements of magical realism and Gothic horror thread through this gripping original and imaginative novel.
8. Heatstroke by Hazel Barkworth.
Tumblr media
During a sweltering summer, 15-year-old Lily fails to come home one afternoon. Her English teacher Rachel’s daughter Mia is Lily’s best friend and Lily’s absence leads Rachel to confront some painful home truths. Thought-provoking and intense, Heatstroke follows a woman’s mental spiral and obsession, exploring mistrust and power in an atmospheric setting.
9. The Wives by Tarryn Fisher.
Tumblr media
Despite never having met them, Thursday has always known that her husband Seth has two other wives. Then she finds something that suggests a very different narrative to her husband’s life than the one she thought she knew. Be prepared to be taken for a very twisty unsettling ride through the depths of a complex polygamous arrangement and everything that entails in this compulsively readable thriller.
10. The Other Girl by C. D. Major.
Tumblr media
Set in 1940s New Zealand, Edith has been locked in Seacliff Lunatic Asylum for 15 years, since the tender age of five. When her entire ward burns down, a new doctor Declan Harris begins to question whether Edith’s childhood stories have any truth to them. This fascinating historical thriller offers a unique insight into the horrors and injustices within a broken mental health system and throws in a haunting Gothic vibe for added creep factor.
11. Keep Him Close by Emily Koch.
Tumblr media
When Alice’s son Lou is found dead, Indigo’s son Kane is accused of his murder. In an attempt to find out why her boy died, Alice befriends Indigo, keeping her true identity a secret, as Indigo fights to clear Kane’s name. But how long can this secret stay buried? If you like a few tears mixed in with your domestic drama, Keep Him Close is the moving, tense and sensitive read for you.
12. The Silence by Susan Allott.
Tumblr media
When the disappearance of a neighbour from decades ago yanks Isla out of her lonely Hackney life and back to her childhood home of Sydney, Australia, she starts to question everything she thought she knew about her family and community. Is her father really capable of the unspeakable? Do the secrets run deeper into the past than anyone imagined? Set across two time periods, The Silence is a literary debut that is dark and slow-burning with heartbreaking Australian history to feed your thoughts.

“I just feel different this pregnancy. I don’t know why, but I’m telling you, there’s something different,” Jasmine declares at breakfast one morning, 6 year old Aria off at school and 2 year old Maddox getting ready to be dropped off at daycare by Anthony on his way into work.
“What do you think that means?” Anthony asks, glancing back at his wife as he wipes Maddox’s face, lifting him out of his high chair.
“I don’t know,” Jasmine shrugs, taking a bite of her toast as she sighs, looking back at her husband. “I’m a little worried to find out,” She confesses, and Anthony can only comfort her and promise her that things will be fine despite her worries.
They hadn’t intended on getting pregnant this soon after Maddox, despite their desire to have at least one more child after the two they already had. Truth be told, Jasmine wanted to savor the moments with the two of them being parents to two kids. They had loved the family outings and not having to worry about being outnumbered by their kids, and while one day they wanted that to change, they were okay with waiting a few more years.
Jasmine remembers the positive pregnancy test staring back at her as if it had happened just a few minutes before. She remembers the confused feelings she had initially, and the immediate worry on how her husband was going to take it. Thankfully Anthony seemed just as excited as she had after the initial shock, and the two of them made an appointment to see her doctor as soon as possible.
Anthony puts in a few hours at the studio before making his way uptown to Jasmine’s doctor, meeting her for the first ultrasound of the new pregnancy. “Nervous?” He asks as he slides into the seat next to his wife, Jasmine giving him a look that says everything.
“Not nervous, just want to know why I feel so different,” Jasmine shrugs, trying to keep her mind off of everything as she fills out new paperwork.
The two of them are led back to an exam room and Jasmine goes through all the normal procedures she’s used to out of a first appointment, a nurse letting them know that the doctor would be back to do an ultrasound to make sure everything was growing properly initially. Anthony toys with his phone while waiting for the doctor, Jasmine trying to focus on her breathing as she thinks about how much their family is going to change in the next few months.
“Do you want a boy or a girl?” Jasmine breaks the silence in the room and looks over at her husband, who only looks up and smiles at her.
“I think Maddox would go crazy with another sister, but honestly, as long as they’re okay and healthy, I’m fine,” He assures her, Jasmine nodding. The doctor walks in and cuts off their conversation before Jasmine has a chance to say her opinion, shaking her doctor’s hand and laying back on the bed as Anthony stood up to stand by her side.
“You know the drill from your previous pregnancies. We won’t be able to see much today, but I’m just going to make sure everything looks like it formed correctly and this pregnancy is going well so far. You seem to be about 6 weeks along, although that’ll be more accurate once we get all of your bloodwork back,” The doctor smiles, spreading the cool gel against Jasmine’s stomach, Jasmine taking Anthony’s hand.
The doctor is silent for a few moments, and while normally Jasmine would welcome the silence while she’s doing her job, this time it makes her feel uneasy. It doesn’t help that she pauses the wand and leans closer to look at the screen, the concern written on her face only making Jasmine more anxious that her gut feeling was right, and there was something wrong.
The doctor looks between the both of them, a smile spreading across her face as she turns the screen to face them. “How would you feel about having twins?” She asks, Jasmine’s jaw falling open. She glances up at Anthony who’s lost all color in his face, the grip on her hand only getting tighter.
“Twins?” Jasmine asks, the doctor laughing softly as she nods, pointing to both sacs on the ultrasound screen.
“Everything looks perfect for a twin pregnancy, but I do want to see you in two weeks to see if we can hear the heartbeats and make sure everything is okay then as well,” She explains, Jasmine nodding, struggling to come to terms with the fact that their family was going to be getting two new additions.
The doctor wipes the gel off her stomach as Anthony helps her sit up, taking the ultrasound pictures from the doctor. Jasmine turns to her husband when the doctor leaves the room, Anthony taking a seat once more as he struggles to come to terms with what they just heard.
“We’re going to have four kids,” Jasmine smiles, unable to stop laughing at the absurdity of that sentence. “Our children are doubling.”
“Shut up. This doesn’t feel real,” He whispers, Jasmine laughing as she stands up from the exam table, walking over to hold her hand out for Anthony to take.
“It definitely doesn’t, but we better get used to it,” She urges, Anthony nodding.
After a debate on what they wanted to do Jasmine and Anthony ultimately decided to find out about the sexes of their babies, especially after not finding out with the first two. Stephanie had planned the whole thing so it was a surprise for them as well, filling two boxes with colored balloons of the sexes for them to open at a party.
Aria stood in front of her parents while Anthony held Maddox, their family and friends all gathering around their apartment to find out. Jasmine can’t remember the last time her heart bested this hard, and as Aria bounced excitedly in front of her, she knew her and Anthony couldn’t put this off anymore.
So on the count of three they opened the boxes at the same time, the balloons Stephanie had spent the afternoon blowing up and putting into boxes floated to the ceiling, everyone cheering loudly as Aria jumped excitedly around the room, Jasmine and Anthony kissing.
“I’M GONNA HAVE TWO SISTERS!” Aria shouts over all of the commotion, Jasmine teary-eyed as she catches her daughter mid-jump, leaning down and kissing her softly.
“I cannot believe I’m going to have three daughters,” Anthony laughs, already overwhelmed at the thought of it. Jasmine thinks about their future with three girls and one boy, and the thought makes her want to go crazy. But then she thinks about how amazing it’s going to be, and she’s already excited for the next few months to fly by.
“Do we want traditional or unique baby names?” Anthony asks, grabbing the iPad from his nightstand as Jasmine crawls into her side of the bed, both of their kids in bed after a fight to sleep. The last thing she has on her mind is picking out baby names, but with the reality of being 8 months pregnant and understanding that the boys could really come at any moment, she knows they need to decide on names.
“I like a mix of both. I don’t want them to have names everyone else has, but I don’t want them to be too far out there,” She shrugs, grabbing the baby name book on her nightstand.
“Ember, Aspen, Ainsley, James, Leni, Layla,” Anthony begins to list off, Jasmine giving up on reading through her own book when she realizes Anthony’s just going to brainstorm out loud. “Grace, Jane, Lila, Cora,” He continues, Jasmine shifting at Cora, turning towards Anthony as best as she can.
“Stop, I like Cora. It’s cute. Traditional, but not too far out there that people would be confused,” She thinks out loud, Anthony saying the name out loud a few more times, letting it sink in.
“Cora Ramos has a good ring to it. Alright, one down, one more to go,” He smiles, scrolling through the website, listing off a million more baby names, Jasmine wondering if they’re ever going to agree on one.
“What about flower names?” Jasmine suggests, giving Anthony a few moments to search some names after flowers. “Lily, Poppy, Violet—“
“Stop! Violet? Do you like that?” She asks, wondering if it’s too out there that people won’t like it.
Anthony says it out loud, and then says it with Cora’s name before turning to his wife. “Cora and Violet? I think they sound good together,” He smiles, Jasmine nodding in agreement.
“So, we agree that we’re going with Cora and Violet? Because your daughters are asleep and I’m going to sleep while they do,” Jasmine sighs, getting comfortable around her pregnancy pillow as Anthony laughs beside her.
“Yes, my love. Rest,” He whispers, leaning over to kiss her forehead, shutting the lights in their bedroom off.
Jasmine’s felt on and off contractions with the twins for three days, and after the irregularity and a slight concern that it was putting stress on the babies, she was admitted to the hospital to be induced and have a c-section.
Initially Jasmine was upset about the c-section, especially because she had had Aria and Maddox naturally, and wanted to try with the twins. But then Anthony reminds her that the twin’s health is more important than anything else, and any dreams for the birth go out the window in favor of keeping their little girls safe.
The operating room is cold and sterile, and Jasmine can’t see anything except the blue tarp in front of her. She’s worried, as any mom would be, but then Anthony appears by her head, and he’s the constant and steady presence that she needs through all of this.
She feels the pressure of the initial incision, and Anthony focuses on her the whole time. “They’re going to be here so soon, we’re almost going to get to meet our little girls,” He whispers underneath his mask, Jasmine looking up and smiling at him, nodding.
The five minutes in between the incision and the cry of their first baby feels like an eternity, Jasmine feeling her body relax when the cries echo in the operating room. “Baby A is a girl, and has some very strong lungs!” The nurse declares, Jasmine immediately beginning to cry as Anthony leans down, wiping the tears away.
Baby B appears in the world a few minutes after her sister, her lungs rivaling her older sister. Anthony can’t stop himself from crying now, pulling down his mask to kiss Jasmine softly, smiling as he pulls back.
“They’re here,” He whispers, Jasmine nodding as she kisses her husband again, urging him to go be with their little girls.
Anthony watches as they’re cleaned off and swaddled, the nurse looking over at him with a smile on her face. “Strong little girls you and your wife had. Both look to be very healthy, but we’ll take them down to the NICU to be checked out just to be sure. Did you want to come?” She offers, Anthony immediately nodding as he takes a shaky step forward, looking down at both of his little girls, swaddled in their blankets.
It’s over four hours before Jasmine is out of the recovery room and both girls get the all clear from the NICU doctors to be with their mother, Anthony thanking every God that both of his little girls are healthy and won’t require longer stays. He sits in his wife’s hospital room and holds each little girl in one of his arms, both smaller than Aria and Maddox were when they were born.
Their family and close friends trickle in slowly throughout the afternoon, Jasmine spending most of it sleeping and recovering from the operation. She had woken up a few times to feed both girls, the nurses pleased with how breastfeeding was going so early with both girls.
Anthony’s mom brings Aria and Maddox up to the hospital after the rest of the family has visited and Jasmine feels more alert, not wanting to scare the kids with how tired and out of it she was for most of the day. Anthony meets them in the hallway outside of Jasmine’s room picking both of them up as they run to him quietly down the halls.
“Are you ready to meet your little sisters?” Anthony asks, Aria sliding back down to stand on her own as she nods enthusiastically, Maddox seeming just as excited as his older sister as he walks alongside her.
Aria and Maddox slip into the room and around the curtain quietly, Jasmine smiling at her two older children. “Hi, babies,” She smiles, watching them walk towards the bed as Aria peers over, her eyes widening at the two babies in her mother’s arms.
“Do you want to meet your little sisters?” Jasmine asks, Aria nodding as she climbs carefully up on the bed, Anthony picking Maddox up so he can see.
“The pink hat is Cora, and the yellow hat is Violet,” Jasmine whispers, both girls sleeping in Jasmine’s arms after just feeding.
Aria is gentler than Anthony and Jasmine could’ve ever imagined, Maddox surprising them as well. They take turns holding the twins with the help of Anthony, both of them talking to them and kissing them as if they were the best babies they could’ve ever been given.
Jasmine takes a moment when all of them are crammed in her hospital bed, letting the feeling sink in that they’re now a family of six. As scary and worrying as that is for when they got home in a few days, she’s more than ready for each and every challenge that may lie ahead, her family meaning more to her than anything else.
Cora and Violet have already slotted into their family as if they had always belonged, and they couldn’t wait to see where this little family took them in the future as everyone adjusted to the new blessings in their lives.
