😏 top 5 favorite star wars droid scenes (can be from either canon or even fanfic)

i haven’t read very much star wars fic at all (actually only one short fic about B1 droids and… well, 🥰 some super secret very exciting and amazing work by a friend which would 100% make this list if not for the veil of wip mystery) so i will be pulling these from canon!

1. BD-1 is probably the droid of all time to me (like,, he's an expedition droid he's basically that two-legged cat video 🥺 he saves cal multiple times and the two of them are both so alone before they find each other it's!!! THE mood as far as droids go for me). really hard to pick just one scene but probably the scene on ilum because of how that whole level acts as a crucible for their relationship. cal at his lowest and BD-1 showing him that love is risky and cal i think understanding that being a jedi is about taking the risk in loving something (the world, people), and understanding that the risk belongs to you and any hurt that comes from love never gives you permission to lash out at innocent people. (you can however murder fascists the jedi code permits this)

something about the thesis statement of that game as forgiveness and sort of saying 'it makes sense that you were afraid. it makes sense that you were angry, and here's a hand reaching out to touch you despite it all. the empire is everywhere and here, in this outstretched hand, there's gentleness despite it all.' ANYWAY yes BD-1 in that scene and the moment they become inseparable just... always makes me cry.

look at BD's little face. we are best friends now 🥰

2. that scene in andor after [redacted] where the camera focuses in on B2EMO, the dialogue washed out and faint and you can just feel his grief. i love what everything Cassian-adjacent has done for droids, but it absolutely broke me to hear B2 say "i don't want to be alone. I want m-m-maarva." that scene as cementing the depth of feeling that droids are capable of... the way B2 is treated by the narrative and by those around him. spoken to like he's maarva's other son and not just her droid.

3. everything K-2SO says in rogue one but especially the scene where he's like "Jyn... I'll be there for you" and there's this extremely heartwarming music playing and then he goes 😐 "Cassian said I had to." 🙄

4. when C-3P0 and R2 crash land on tatooine and 3P0 does nothing but whine and complain. basically

the whole

"where do you think you're going?!"

"well, i'm not going that way."

"it's much too rocky! this way is much easier."

then kicking R2 and storming off and R2 just like "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 'guess you'll die' and rolling away peacefully, humming to itself. then C3PO lost in the desert muttering "!! he tricked me into going this way" 😡

5. oooo i'm going to be gay and say another BD-1 scene. this is during the Trilla fight on Zeffo where she (good for her. valid of her. always) Force-yeets you across the room and is about to do a very beautiful again very valid downward strike to finish you off and BD-1 activates a particle shield between you and her. heroic work by BD because it triggers by far the best Trilla scene, even including the opening fight on Bracca. look at his smug little face he loves cal so much 🥺

#these are the ones i can think of right now and probably my overall droid ranking would be different BUT. in terms of scenes yes #amazing question as usual!!#i did watch so many B1 droid compilation videos for this. i couldn't pick a favourite but know... i love them #thanks BD for letting me stare at trilla for five minutes that time. i would have thanked her for putting me out of my misery #but that was better #ask meme #knightsofrayx #star wars

Maarva Andor, newly widowed after her husband’s execution in the hands of the Galactic Empire, grieves and learns what it takes to be a daughter of Ferrix, the planet she, Clem, Cassian, and Bee had called home for many years.

Her troubles only grew when her teenaged son Cassian—now orphaned of a father—sought reckless revenge on a handful of Clone Stormtroopers and their Imperial officer on a winter dawn…

A DAUGHTER OF FERRIX

When Maarva Andor woke up to an empty, rumpled bed in Cassian’s room before daylight struck, her blood grew colder than the snows which had engulfed Ferrix in its pale winter shroud.

“No, no, please… Oh—Maker, no, not my Cassian…” Maarva kept a low, crazed murmur under her freezing breath, in broken invocations, but she was turning less to hope. The heating system had ceased to function again, and this time, Clem was no longer there to help her repair it.

Her quaking fingers patted her son’s bed in an aimless trance, still too deep in her grief to think straight, when Bee in his soft, mechanical rattling, rolled into the open door of Cassian’s room.

“M-Maarva!” began the little household droid. The trusty B2EMO unit had only begun his stuttering lately, a lingering maladaptive reaction spurred by Cassian’s mischief. The young boy loved tinkering with the droid’s logic, trying to mess with Bee’s neural circuitry with endless cycles of teasing—and eventually, lying. Bee had tried his best to resist all of it, and with it succeeding in breaking down bit by bit.

Maarva, however, paid no heed to the distraught little droid. She had sat on the bed, herself as disheveled as the sheets, and without warning, she fell into fitful sobbing.

“M-M-Maarva,” Bee continued stubbornly, but he now sounded gentler and less urgent, once again lightly stricken from the woman’s weeping spells.

“Bee,” Maarva acknowledged the droid at last. Her lips barely moved as she tried to call to the droid again. She had lost all her strength days prior, after battling her own willful self from charging headlong into Rix Road square with countless others who protested the hanging of seventeen honest men and women. Clem Andor had been one of them. He had done nothing wrong. Clem had only been a good man, a good husband, a good father…

“C-C-Cassian!” Bee sputtered, encouraged by Maarva’s attention. “He t-took off j-just a st-standard hour ago…”

Maarva was suddenly alert. She dropped to her knees so she faced Bee at eye level, and her features turned hard.

“Where to, Bee?” Maarva’s voice, hoarse from the tears, had recouped in mixed conviction and panic. “Did Cassian say where he’d gone to?”

Bee saw no chance to explain. The otherwise stillness of the early morning had been shattered by a volley of knocks on her door coupled by frantic yelling:

“MAARVA!” A woman’s voice called from the outside the door. Was it Neassa, Brasso’s mother? Her voice had become familiar to her ever since Cassian and Brasso had become bosom buddies, and Neassa would often visit as they themselves had become close friends.

Maarva swiftly gathered her bearings. Neassa’s next words turned her face into a bloodless mask as her fears were realized:

“It’s Cassian! He’s been caught at the plaza! They had him arrested—by Chobb’s name, Cassian is a child! They can’t do the same thing to him—oh gods, they just can’t—!”

In only a shift gown and a ratty winter coat and boots, Maarva lost no time in greeting a very shaken Neassa by the threshold. They hastened through the length of Rix Road and to the square where her son had been arrested.

Fiat Lux Illustration is proud to present its first ever Kickstarter campaign to produce a large line of droid enamel pins! I've always loved robots and giant monsters so this collection is a long time coming!

We will have 35 days starting February 1st to unlock all the designs:

Chopper : a model of C-series astromech droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton. They were used during the Clone Wars and the reign of the Galactic Empire, though by then they were considered antiques and had passed their manufacturer's expiry date a few decades prior.

Good News: After months of interview hell, I have a new job! Spent all morning waiting for a phone call or e-mail and throwing up, having a splitting headache/not eating, but hooray employment! Finally. Cause I was translating on the side and freaking tf out at times and reluctant to get new clothes and getting a bit stressed after this latest round of interviews.

Distressing News: R2D2 made sad moaning noises, the dash lights did something odd and it won’t start. It was fine until I had the bright idea of trying to play a cd in the cd player, now it’s having electrical issues?? My last car had bizarre electrical issues as well oh no

R2D2 is my mum’s white Prius C. It was moaning as sadly as B2EMO. I have never heard a car make a noise like that...It sounded forlorn.

But.... this creature has low miles. What on earth. It was running perfectly well with no visible or audible issues two days ago. We’ll go on trips or I will go get her groceries. I bike everywhere otherwise. It was serviced not that long ago.
