when mike confronts will about the painting!! the conversation is going to have so much emotion it’s going to go crazy oh my god. they’re both going to have tears streaming down their face and mike is going to be asking why did you lie to me will. and will struggling to admit his feelings and mike is getting frustrated not understanding why will would lie or interfere with his relationship like that. so will eventually tells the truth about how he really feels and that he just wanted to help mike and el’s relationship because he cares about them and he loves mike so much he doesn’t want to see him lose the person he loves and he doesn’t want anything to be weird between them. will’s tone and facial expressions making us think this is it. this is the moment he feels like he’s lost mike because of course mike doesn’t feel the same. and mike is just standing there in silence taking it all in and will finally just says “i don’t even get why you care so much anyways. don’t you love el? what makes anything different? whenever you have an issue with el you’re always getting upset at me? why is that mike huh? i’m sick of us arguing over the same-“. mike cuts him off with “you’re right, i’m sorry.” and will asks “what?” and mike says “i’ve just been so confused and i’ve done things that have been hurtful and i hate that i’ve hurt you because i love you, will. i love you so much and i don’t want to lose you. i hate how things have been different and i’m so sorry. i should’ve come to you with the way i was feeling and i wish you could’ve come to me about how you were feeling but we were both scared but we don’t have to be scared anymore. i want you by my side. the day you went missing was the worst day of my life. i thought i lost you forever. i don’t ever want to experience that feeling again. please will know that i love you so much”. at this point mike is holding will’s face and they’re both crying and they kiss and they just rest their foreheads on each other breathless

The Duffers being huge Stephen King fans, them referencing his works multiple times in the show, like with Bob's story about the scary clown in Maine in s2... got me thinking how cute it would be to have a scene of Mike carving M + W on wood, as a nod to R + E in IT, but with Will there with him, instead of him being alone and having to hide it like Richie. Another Finn Wolfhard character engraving his initial with the one of his gay lover, with the difference that Mike and Will get to have a happy ending, unlike Richie and Eddie (💔). I think it would be really cute and on brand too, seeing how ST is full of references to other pieces of media

society if the duffers had gone through with their original plan to have mike go to the upside down in s1 to find will

one of the things i want the most out of s5 is an el entering will’s memories or psychically connecting with him or SOMETHING and an entire flashback episode dedicated to the party realizing that, to learn more about the upside down and vecna/henry/one, they have to learn more about will’s experiences in there as a child.

and then the entire episode is just the revelation of what exactly happened in the upside down, like how will managed to call his mom, how he communicated with the lights, what happened when the demogorgon (if it was even the demogorgon) took him, what happened in between him being at castle byers and being brought to the library... all that leading to the revelation that will has powers or is the key to beating vecna/henry/one etc etc etc 

it all comes back to will byers ok ok that’s what i’m manifesting

Mike being closed off, annoyed, defensive, and borderline irate a majority of the time throughout the series, is a defense mechanism.

It's because, if no one knows who Mike truly is at his core, then they cant judge or hurt who he truly is. It's a mask. They can hate him, but it's not even really him so... Jokes on them, right?

But Will. Will makes Mike feel like he's better for being different...

Mike evidently see's Will as someone that knows Mike at his core and still wants to be around him in part for those very qualities. This is the only person Mike has been able to consistently show a more vulnerable side of himself to, and it's because Will himself embodies those qualities that Mike is scared to reveal, out of fear that he will be judged for who he truly is.

All Mike's most vulnerable scenes? I can guarantee you will was present for almost all of them (definitely all of the major ones).

Mike is just not as honest in showing others how he is feeling quite like he is with Will. At the most he might lash out and hope it gets the people around him to leave him alone so that he can be honest with himself in the privacy of a moment with his own thoughts...

However, get Mike around Will and he's head in hands, literally the most vulnerable we ever see him.
