The Past - Zuko

Pairing - Zuko x reader

Word Count - 663

“Remember when you were bald?” You said through a cough, giving Zuko a sideways glance with a little smirk on your face.

“Oh come on!” Zuko exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. “What the heck did I ever do to you, y/n? Stop making fun of my bald self.” He crossed his arms and pouted and you just giggled to yourself as Toph and Sokka were holding back laughter.

“You have to admit it’s a little funny, Zuko.”

“It’s not!”

You walked over to Zuko and put your arm around him. “Okay, okay, it’s not that funny.”

“Thank you!” Zuko turned away from you still pouting and the campfire you were around with the others went silent.

Until you spoke up, of course.

“Remember when all you wanted to do was capture the Avatar.” Everyone started laughing and Zuko’s face went as red as a tomato. It definitely didn't help that Aang, you know, the literal Avatar, was sitting right there.

Sure, Zuko was happy that the gaang took him in, but it was definitely a little embarrassing that he had once made it his whole life and every waking moment to capture him.

“I have to capture the Avatar and restore my honor.” You said in a mocking dramatic voice.

Sokka and Toph were completely out of breath laughing while Aang and Katara were trying not to laugh in respect of Zuko.

“Okay, y/n.” Zuko turned to you, his face flushing a dark crimson. “I'm serious. Stop.”

“Zuko,” you walked over to him and tucked his long hair behind his ear. “You know I'm just playing. Sure, capturing the Avatar was definitely number one on your list, but you were still just a kid.” You rubbed his arm and Zuko smiled at you.

Zuko didn't know if he could live without you or his uncle. You were both there for him through thick and thin since he was banished from the fire nation. Heck, you even decided to go back to the fire nation with him after that awful crisis in Ba Sing Se. No matter what, you were always there for him.

“Remember when we would train on the boat?” You smiled.

Everyone turned to the both of you, intrigued.

You just smiled and hugged Zuko’s arm. “You’ve always had the potential to be a great fire bender. Who cares if your sister was some prodigy since she was born? You've always put in the work, making you that much better.”

“Stop,” Zuko said with a bright red face, hugging you to him. “If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be as good as I am.”

“Oh, come on, Zuko! I'm not that good.”

“YES YOU ARE!” You laughed at Zuko’s sudden outburst.

“Yeah, y/n!” Aang butt in, beaming at you. “You’re not only one of the best fire benders I’ve ever met, but also the nicest. No offense Zuko.”

“None taken.”

“You guys are a riot.” You said with a joking eye roll, standing up to stretch your legs.

Zuko stood up with you and wrapped his arm around you, looking at the full moon.

“You know,” Aang said, standing up and walking over to the two of you. “If it wasn't for the both of you hating my guts for that period of time, I honestly don't think that I would have any firebending teacher.”

You and Zuko smiled at Aang, pulling him in for a little group hug. Aang smiled and ran back to the rest of the group and you turned to Zuko and pulled him into his own hug, kissing the crook of his neck. “I'm so proud of you.” You whispered and looked at his bright yellow eyes with small tears of your own.

“I'm proud of you too.” He leaned down to you and gave you a small, but loving kiss on the lips before the two of you cuddled in each other’s arms, watching the clouds cover the moon.

tell me some trivia about your ocs!

Holy shit hello I will gladly ramble and say fun facts about my guys and worlds!!!!

The Kingdom of Zorith is situated on a big ass plateau, with only 2 safe natural passages to get off and onto it.

Drithen is actually in their very late 90s to maybe just over 100, believe it or not. This is because after becoming The Prophet aged 26, they just. Stopped aging. And then 50 or so years passed before Idarus finally killed them, a few more years and then the 25 that took up the Final Act were spent in limbo, where still, they just stayed. 26. But they are very old in reality.

Zukuh has poliosis, which is caused by them having piebaldism. A few sections of his skin along their sides and back have also been affected, but mainly it's his hair that was most affected.

Zukuh's name was indeed inspired by Zuko from atla. BUT. I chose the name before I watched the show, which is funny because Zuko is so special to me now that I've watched it.

Moving away from the Zorith guys, Wiles Harting from my The New Sun world!! :) He, who is proudly gay, actually has an ex-wife and 2 kids (twins) from before he realised he was a gay man :D He's still in contact with all of them during the story, and gets along great with his ex-wife still. Then he dies but oh well. Common Wiles L.

My Spidersona (who I literally have hardly ever talked about on here, who I also have ONLY JUST TODAY decided to bring back. So don't look at any old tags of them.) Parker Stray, has actually kept the spider that bit them! They have dubbed her Gertrude, and she is kept in a terrarium that would fit the spider closest to what she is post-radioactivity.

Casso and Zukuh used to make out in the woods 😐

Casso's design, once they've been Creatured, was actually inspired A LOT (among other things) by the little Vessels from Hollow Knight (Mainly the yknow. Hollow Knight. The boss.) I even got the idea to cut off one of their arms from it.

Casso and Ecith just. Do not have parents at all. They legit spawned in (Idarus bullshit) which is very funny

Casso's big face scar doesn't come from some important ass backstory beat, it actually comes from some random passerby's young Drake (a Silvacursor Drake) in training, who got a little too excited while being watched over by Casso and happened to have lots of teeth.

Ecith actually has a horse :) her name is Hayle (it is a pun, yes)

im melting bug used to be so alert during her sleep she would subconsciously be waiting in fear of danger and she would rarely ever leave her good eye covered bUT NOw she's subconsciously reaching for physical contact and comfort from the boys AND THEN YOU'RE TELLING ME SHE'S ALSO COMPLETELY TRUSTING JONGHO TO PROTECT HER WHILE SHES ASLEEP OGM MY HERART

intermission to tell you just how much i love each and every single interaction that you put into each chapter bc they are such simple moments and actions that could easily be skipped over when thinking about the grand scheme of the plot but you always manage to highlight their significance in bug's journey of healing. ltm is the epitome of it's the little things in life ❤️

seeing bug curled on the floor next to san's bed was so cute but also so bittersweet. i think ateez need a new cavern where the whole floor is just bed so they can all be close and have cute puppy piles. also PLEASE HAHA not bug going 🥵🥵 seeing hongjoong's forearm muscles 💪💪 honestly though,,, same

Briefly, there’s a startling realization that they don’t change for you either. -> 👏WE👏LOVE👏CHARACTER👏DEVELOPMENT👏AND👏SELF👏LOVE 👏 i love the parallels revealed between hongjoong's and bug's past because hopefully bug can start to realise that she is also capable of displaying the scar on her face without worrying and finding love in this little family just like hongjoong has

woosan peering over the edge of the bed to look at bug and hongjoong only serves to reiterate my point that they need a nine-person mattress stat. and the way they giggled together like kids i swear they're the cutest

the gaang and the funniest mean thing Sokka has ever said to/about them OR the gaang and the nicest thing they've ever done for Sokka !

gonna answer both at once cuz im not a quitter 😤

aang: when aang realizes that the fire sages were waiting for him and sokka says “hey, don't feel bad! you were only 100 years late” he is SUCH an asshole skfjnskjf i love him / aang's pep talk to sokka before going into battle on the day of black sun. such a poignant, heartwarming scene <3

katara: when he said “you want me to be like you, or totally honest?” (“are you saying i'm a liar?”) “i’m saying you're an optimist. same thing basically." that sums up their whole relationship honestly. i love it sm / when sokka loses his boomerang in "avatar day" and she gives him the sweetest little hug to cheer him up. also when she offered to stay in ba sing se with the earth king so that he could go see their dad. granted, not a particularly selfless act considering we later learn that katara didn't actually know how/want to confront hakoda in the first place, but still a gesture that made sokka extremely happy, especially considering he didn't even hesitate to offer to stay behind, but katara knew just how much he had missed their father anyway. she is indeed "the best sister ever."

toph: when she said “it feels like an avalanche...... but also.... not an avalanche.......” and sokka replied “your powers of perception are frightening.” that line is so fucking good tbh. like legitimately one of my favorite sokka lines / i think the nicest thing toph has ever done for sokka is generally just like exist? because she cares about him and admires him so much and understands him so well, and their friendship is just so invaluable and healing for both of them. so.... yeah :')

zuko: when aang says to zuko "you know, i don't care what everyone else says about you; you're pretty smart” informing zuko that sokka is just constantly going around insulting his intelligence (both to his face and behind his back) lmfao / going on a suicide mission to infiltrate a maximum security prison with a guy who famously hates him and thinks he is an idiot (see: above). so, the entire boiling rock arc, basically.

suki: when he was like "sorry i cant kiss u my ex is literally right here" and suki was like "wtf we are literally alone...." and then he just. left without elaborating. cockblocked by the moon lmfaoo / hmm, well, you see... [REDACTED]

mai: when he called her “that gloomy girl who sighs a lot.” ooooh ROASTED / mai does nice things for sokka all the time bc they are best friends who love each other, but seeing as this is all after the war and not during the actual chronology of the show, i guess i'd have to go with when she risked her life for zuko at the boiling rock, saving his life as well by proxy :)

ty lee: when she was trying to fight him and he was like “sorry i have a gf 😬” she's never actually been rejected before so that must've stung / when she saved mai's life at the boiling rock, thus ensuring that mai and sokka could later go on to have a beautiful friendship <333

azula: when he spared her life not once but twice, basically dismissing her as a truly worthy opponent to be feared, when she all but admitted that she wanted him dead (which is obviously a sign of respect fyi). OUCH, that’s gotta hurt! / when she lost to him playing pai sho and had to hold back tears. he found it to be a nice little ego-boost.

a/n: this is....really boring so i apologize in advance i tried so hard to make this funny but idek what this is tbh it’s just less than brain dump LOLOL in all seriousness tho, i’m happy to spend my 19th with all of you and i hope you manage to get something out of the piece i promised <333

you rang the doorbell with your free hand, the other having been occupied with the treats you had stopped to get.

the person who had been expecting you answered the door promptly. you didn’t have to spend much time standing outside in the breezy winter air when mal appeared, the absence of her glasses initially taking you back. she had dressed in her typical cold weather outfit consisting of leggings and a comfy sweater, a pair of fuzzy socks to complete the cozy look.

“hey! so nice to see you again!” mal wraps her arms around you in a tight hug.

“nice to see you too!” you return the hug, before pulling away to hand her the drink and small bag you had been holding. she examined the contents, eyes lighting up when she realized what they were.

“iced coffee, just how i like it! i’m glad they also had croissants today. thank you so much!”

“no problem! hopefully this helps prevent us from lazing around on the couch like how we did back at my place.” mal laughs, recalling the memory from exactly a month ago. you were determined to not let that happen again, no matter how fun it had been, considering that this upcoming exam was said to be a big one, even though it wasn’t a midterm or final.

mal moves out of the doorway, allowing you to come into the comfort of her home. you take off your shoes, placing them on a nearby rack.

you expected your hostess to already be heading to the dining table, but noticed that she had stayed behind you. you turn to see her shifting her shoes over next to yours, raising an eyebrow at her actions.

“what if....we put our shoes next to each other....haha jk....unless..?” mal studied your expression for a few seconds, then burst out laughing at your lack of reaction.

you simply responded with a chuckle, shaking your head. she had always had an interesting sense of humor, as most said. it wasn’t uncommon for her to make the weirdest flirty jokes randomly out of the blue, conjuring them from any situation.

after laughing along with you, mal joins you at you guys’ workspace, arranging her stuff into her own area while you take out your supplies.

the two of you take out your math books and some scratch paper to do the practice problems assigned as the study guide. mal had an iffy relationship with math, and you were prepared for her to ask for help at some point or another.

you scratch your head, having reached the middle of the study guide and stumbling across a rather mind breaking world problem. you look up to mal, who was currently doing a weird spinning motion with her pencil that didn’t seem to be going anywhere.

suddenly, her pencil flies out of her hand, thankfully not hitting you in the face and landing on your paper. mal gasps, reaching over to grab it.

“sorry! i got a bit distracted trying to do that cool trick we saw on tik tok!” she exclaims. her short arms can’t seem to retrieve her writing utensil from across the table, so you hand it to her, fingers slightly brushing against each others.

“woah, your fingers are really warm” you say in astonishment.

“really? people always tell me my hands are cold.” mal laughs while rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly.

silence befalls once more. that is until mal speaks up again.

“do you wanna take a break? we’ve been focused for an hour at least.”

“um, sure.” you close your laptop and textbooks almost immediately in response, as if you had been secretly waiting for her to initiate a study break.

mal gets up and stretches, then heads to the couch to put on netflix. you already know where this is going the moment she picks up the remote.

“you wanna watch avatar again don’t you?” you shake your head, with a knowing chuckle. mal follows up on your speculation when she selects the boiling rock episode from book 3.

“hey, can you blame me for wanting to forget about math and just fangirl over zuko?” she pouts, turning on the episode.

not even five minutes have passed and mal is already squealing over the fire nation prince. it was quite endearing however, the way she was head over heels for a brave, handsome royal like she was a schoolgirl all over again. you admired her for being able to unleash her playful side despite being relatively serious.

“see look at them go!” she pointed to zuko and sokka on the screen, who were currently riding in the former’s hot air balloon. “they OWN this episode, along with suki of course.”

she didn’t talk much while watching stuff but took every zuko scene as her cue to react with comments about either his hair, his jawline, his character development, anything.

when you finished the episode, she had to lie down and look up at the ceiling, sucking in a breath.

“avatar is so much better than most american tv shows. it’s just, wow.” you nod in agreement.

mal scoots closer to you leaning on your shoulder and sighing. “i’m sure you’ve figured it out by now, but i didn’t call you over just to study.” you raise an eyebrow.

“ah you mean you also just wanted to scream about zuko to someone in person?” you smirk.

“well yes, but no.” mal shifts her body and leans in closer to the side of your face.

her hot breath fans your ear, making you shiver. brushing your cheek she closes more and more distance between the two of you. “it’s because...”

“yes?” you ask, your voice shaky.

“i wanted to spend time with you. us, together, we make a pretty good pair....of friends.”

you blink, trying to process what just happened, while mal just laughs in your face. “you thought, huh?”

“this is why you’re still single.”

Fanime 2010

FRIDAY

I got to go with one of my friends and stay at a hotel with her and a few other people she knew. That day, I was Chibitalia. It wasn't too crowded which was nice.

GWAHHH @A@ Awesome movie characters!! (sorry the photos were dark, it was around 7PM when I took them xD; )

I got some hugs and met some nice Hungarys >u<

I didn't do a lot that day, obviously xD I did bump into some guys with a Soviet flag, and when they saw me they said in a Russian accent, "Oh, look! Another little country! Maybe we should make it part of Mother Russia, да?" We quickly ran away from them xDD

SATURDAY

Today I cosplayed Sealand!

My friends had really pretty outfits *3*

We also came across a couple of Hetalia cosplayers, including an England who I got to bother a bit and call ‘jerk England’ >:3

So many great cosplays! After we left the dealer's hall, we bumped into a small Hetalia group, and some of them (England, China, Prussia, America, and Italy) were doing a skit! They originally were going to have a France, but their France couldn't do it, so I was the replacement! OAO I was never in a skit before, but I really wanted to try, since it was Monty Python. So I signed a paper that could allow me and all I had to do was wait, and since my friends were going back to their hotels, I decided to join them to kill some time. Meanwhile I photoed some more wonderful cosplayers!

Afterward, we decided to have some breakfast (we haven't eaten yet!!) and while we were buying fruit at our hotel, I decided to bug these guys (little did I know back then that I actually watched the America on YT!) These two were amazing! *A*

*w* We then went outside for a bit, and I encountered the best combo I've seen:

STEAMPUNK HETALIA!! I honestly didn't know what steampunk was until I saw them (and even since Treasure Planet, I wondered what the style was called!)

We were in a hurry to get to the hotel, I didn't realize my friend was the Toph on the right (with her BF as Zuko) ;A;

I almost forgot about the skit that I was supposed to be part of, so I went with one of my friends to the masquerade and tried looking for where my group was (because I forgot to bring my glasses, and it was dark, I couldn't tell where they were), I did find someone to help and finally joined just as the masquerade was starting @A@ Whew! (though we didn't rehearse, and we were just lip-synching to it) Apparently we were the first skit (skit 0 for some reason xD), though we had to wait for the taiko drums to finish and some people to show off their costumes, it was really nervewracking to wait backstage! But we were all being cool and laughing quietly and keeping our worries away. Finally the skit happened (for some reason it wasn't so bad since it was too dark to see the audience, and we just did it as though we were acting by ourselves :) )

After the skit, we were skipping along down the side hallway, glad to get it over with (though it was loads of fun!) America was whooping and hollering with joy until we were shushed xD

We then got to watch all of the other skits (at least 40, and all under 5 minutes in length, and I was getting sleepy) Some of our group members had to leave for sleep, but I stayed to see the results. One of our shoulders was tapped to go backstage (apparently we won something, but we didn't know what yet!) After everyone for the costume contest (including this one guy with HUGE wings) our group won for Junior Acheivement!! 8D (Because we were all under 18) As we recieved our awards, England was piggybacked on America pretending to be drunk and shouted out "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!", and I was carrying the sword casually. That was the best skit (and only skit xD ) I've ever done! I want to do that again! 8D And so after all that, I quickly got back to my hotel room and got some sleep.

SUNDAY

I cosplayed Puppy!Italy because there was a Hetalia meet that day. It was hot of course, and we were doing group photos outside xD; I got to meet some of my friends who cosplayed as Seychelles, China, and Shinatty-chan.

While I was rushing back into the shade, I caught these two dancing and asked if they would dance for a photo <333 (I'm supporting Latvia+Seychelles as a platonic couple now!)

I wish I had brought my own flag, I borrowed this one from the Italy from our skit ;w;

Females group I know there were more groups (such as Asia and Scandinavia, and surely more pairings) that I missed, but I either couldn't stay out long enough to take photos because of the heat, or I was really busy talking to a friend I was also talking with a Turkey who thought about using an Italy puppy to hunt down Greece like a hunting dog (and use my con badge strap as a leash), but then Italy would get distracted and run for Germany when he saw him and forget the original mission xDD (I wish we could make a skit of that!) I wish I could have talked to more people during then, but I was feeling too shy! orz After that, I had to go back to my hotel (my friends had to leave in the middle of photoshooting because it was so hot), but just as I was about to go back, I had accidently taken Italy's flag with me! QAQ So I thought about the Hetalia panel that was going on a few hours later and was sure she would be there. I actually wasn't in the mood to go to the panel (plus I think I needed something in order to get in), though luckily I did return the flag to her after asking someone if I could quickly. I then got back to my hotel in a kinda bad mood (don't remember what happened) and stayed for the rest of the day, and watched a movie that cheered me up. MONDAY Didn't do much that day since we were leaving. I cosplayed as Chibitalia again. :3 I got to buy a few things (all Hetalia-related of course xD ), hug some people (someone gave me a really tight hug which hurt, and wouldn't let go for a while just to hear the "cute" noises I made when hurt...)
