an accurate guide about red velvet

So since so many people are getting into Red Velvet recently, I decided to make a guide to help them out. You know, give yall some slack because learning five names is super hard. A guide accompanied by my half-assed jokes, interesting.

PSA: If you’re only here to stan the girls because of their recent comebacks like Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy and are going to drop them as soon as they release tracks similar to Dumb Dumb and Ice Cream Cake, leave because we don’t want you here.

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get straight to business (TO DEFEAT THE HUNS WHY DID THEY SEND ME DAUGHTERS WHEN I ASKED FOR SONS)

Basic Facts

Red Velvet is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2014.

There are five members (OT4 stans can choke).

They debuted on August 1st in 2014 with a single called “Happiness”.

Fandom name is Reveluv. Since “rêve” means “dream” in French, the meaning behind the fandom name is that us, Reveluvs, make their dreams come true and Red Velvet gives us their immense love in return, thus the “luv” part. Sometimes they also call us “Luvies”.

Official fandom colour is pastel coral and not red because l o g i c

The fact that they were formed by SM Entertainment doesn’t mean they got a free ride to the top so sit your entitled asses down, thanks.

Now, you see, they weren’t actually supposed to debut in 2014. I bet you must be confused but don’t worry, it is I, your trusty homie, that is gonna help you realize how many similarities every student has with SM lmao plus the reason for their early debut.

2014 was a rough year for our buddy Lee Soo Man. Jessica left Girl’s Generation; Sulli left f(x); Kris, Tao and Luhan left EXO... This, of course, caused a goddamn World War III amongst the fans of the respective groups. They were about to go in front of the official SM building with torches and pitchforks to demand SM to step up their game. To calm the situation down, our amigo SM must have thought: “Welp I sure fucked up. How the hell do I fix this? Wait, I have an idea! Let’s debut another girl group to cover up all the shit that has been piling up for years now!”

And your boi gone and did it. He basically debuted another group despite the number of problems he had to deal with already. This is every student ever, just make another problem to cover up the first one.

Red Velvet debuted with four members; Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. The “Happiness” music video got 2 million views in a day and was the most viewed kpop music video for the month of August in 2014. See, the queens already breaking records.

However, the original version of “Happiness” was full of controversial topics such as 9/11 being the most prominent one. This caused such hate to the girls that everyone started calling them “flops”. Lmao Red Velvet stays unbothered as the kpop act with the most Billboard charted albums bYE.

Some of you still may be wondering what the hell happened with Yeri. Well, because their debut was rushed and due to her age, Yeri, unfortunately, couldn’t debut with them. When Red Velvet debuted, Yeri was 15 years old so basically a child.

Before, there was a law which stated that kids under the age of 16 couldn’t debut.

No need to worry fellow Yeri stans! Red Velvet only released another single called “Be Natural” before Yeri was officially added. The single featured NCT’s Taeyong on it too so if you are one of those fangirls, better go and check it out because your oppar is there + it is an underrated bop.

Yeri was added to the group during Ice Cream Cake era! Of course, many people hated her, acting as if Red Velvet released so many songs and solved world hunger without Yeri. Um, bitch they had two songs take a seat.

Listen to every single song if you want to cure your depression, clear your skin, feed your children and harvest your crops. Seriously, all of their b-sides are so amazing and such bops they are worth a listen and you, as a person who chose to stan Red Velvet, deserve to have your ears cleansed.

Another topic that I want to bring up is “the red concept” and “the velvet concept”. It is not complicated. Basically what it means is that they split their concepts into two. The red concepts are more upbeat, catchy and poppy songs such as Dumb Dumb, Rookie, Russian Roulette etc. However, the velvet concept is where they show their mature, more serious ballads. Songs that represent the velvet side are Automatic, One of These Nights, Peek-A-Boo etc.

They filmed 13 music videos so you are going to get attacked by visuals 13 times, good luck.

The most interesting and fun part of this guide to be honest. So yeah, five members and five completely different personalities. Trust me, you’re gonna love every single one of these girls because they all have such amazing personalities and are extremely funny. Get abroad the homo express!

May I ask a question? You said you ever shocked that sm let kaisoo do the couple dance? Why I know people ship them but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. On another note why do people ship them so hard? In sorry for bothering you I have been in the fandom for awhile and i just don't understand why those two specifically yet. Hi anon! I saw this ask earlier while I was at work so I couldn’t reply (super busy at work this week ... rip) so I hope you see this !

I was shocked about the Kaisoo thing because they next to never get to have choreographed parts in dances lol .This isn’t due to ignorance at all; SM and EXO alike know that fans ship members and which ships are prevalent. Fans aren’t discreet about it since they bring Chanbaek, Kaisoo etc signs and stuff to concerts and even the Mnet Asian Music Awards (if you ever watch parts of performances from MAMAs or the whole show, watch for camera shots of the audience and you’ll find them).

Some groups like to really play up those ships, like Eunhae did (Eunhyuk and Donghae of Super Junior, aka one of the alpha ships in kpop), or like Markson do (Jackson and Mark of Got7), but SM hasn’t really opted for doing that so much with EXO.

Uhhhh so disclaimer: a lot of shippers will say SM is anti- certain ships and pro- others. For example, SM often tosses xiuchen out there and lets chanbaek do what they want.* I’m not going to elaborate on that further because I don’t subscribe to that belief, but what I will say is that SM does seem to want to promote certain pairings and get the fan reactions from those, and SM thinks they produce the desired image and desired reaction from those pairings over others ... and so yeah they don’t toss Kaisoo out there to promote lightsticks like with Chanbaek, or throw them on an SM show and have the MCs tease them about ‘dating within the group’ like with Xiuchen. (Yes both of those things happened and yes SM’s being very transparent about the fanservice they want to be done.)

It’s perfectly reasonable and expected given SM’s nature, that the company would “suppress” a ship in favor of expressing another. All it chalks up to is image image image. Besides, if you’re already controlling, why not control the fanservice? I don’t think it’s some kind of anti-Kaisoo or anti-whatever ship conspiracy; I just think SM knows what they want and they do it. Nothing personal.

So yeah at this point, 5 years into EXO’s career as a group, they haven’t played up Kaisoo before (not in any concert stages or music shows to my knowledge~), so I didn’t expect them to do so ever. Kaisoo shippers rely purely on how the two interact while ... honestly just being in proximity with each other lol since SM doesn’t feed them at all. SM can’t even throw a bone every now and again Now suddenly Kaisoo have a stage choreo together on the first music show performance of their annual comeback and I’m #shook lol what else is SM gonna surprise us with ?!

*Sidenote: as a CB shipper I had a g r e a t time during EXODUS era. CB are just close period and SM allowed them to feed us all they wanted. And they kept feeding us the entire time.... IG posts of them singing Tender Love together, of them playing piano, of them demonstrating their height differences, and lots of cute togetherness in general... also there was sweater switching and ring switching ffskddksslsl rip Kaisoo shippers in comparison lmfao.

Uh so why do some fans ship so hard? That’s a goooood question that I don’t have a good answer for .... but my hypothesis is that apart from those who like me just get really happy and excited when the ship interacts, and happy that they’re happy, there are those fans who are totally convinced the ship is real -- that is, that they believe the people they ship are actually interested in each other beyond non-sexual friendship. Of course there are plenty of “evidence” posts out there on Tumblr and beyond, and you can dive deep into the kaisoo, chanbaek, xiuhan, etc tags for examples of why those fans hold those convictions, so you can explore that for yourself since you’re new. I’ve had plenty of those posts come at me on my dash and on forums the past few years so I’ve seen some of everything already... but yeah the hardcore shippers think the ship is real, and think that the interactions their ship has are not just being friends or doing fanservice, but indicative of a relationship of some romantic and/or sexual nature.

Sorry this got so long! There’s a lot that goes into this shipping stuff and I’ve been here so long that I have a lot to say.

You walked 2 blocks to the train station and saw your train was coming in 3-5 minutes. You exhausted from the hard work you put in for your hip hop solo. You just played on your phone for about 5 minutes checking your social media apps and playing games until you actually fell asleep on the bench waiting for your train to arrive. About 10 minutes later you woke up to an announcement that your train will be delayed for about 5 minutes extra because it was running late anyway while you were asleep. Your so glad you didn't miss it. You drunk the rest of your water and waited patiently for your train to arrive.

Once your train arrived your small self squished in between people who are pushing themselves into the train as there were no seats of course that you can sit in as you were very tired from your dance practice tonight. You held on the train pole firmly and tightly hoping not to fall since you were little stumbly and kind of dizzy from you being so fatigued. You were also hungry and didn't eat dinner before you came home. All you had was a sandwich for lunch and a bottle of water.

About 4 minutes unto the train ride it just got more and more crowded with a LOT of people. It has never been this packed at this time that you have been on this train. You wondered to yourself why it was. Suddenly when the train made a sharp turn the pressure and force of the people standing and holding the pole bars and such pushed you so hard that you lost balance and completely fell on top of the one and only Kim Namjoons lap.

You at the time didn't know who Kim Namjoon was and you weren't too familiar with the group: BTS

You: “Oh my god I'm so sorry about that!” You said as you and Namjoon are helping picking yourself up.

You: “You see the train turned and i lost balance and due to everyones pressure I fell but I'm so sorry..”

Namjoon- “Its okay, its totally fine i understand. Are you okay are you hurt”? he asked while all eyes of the other passengers were staring on you.

You: “Yeah I'm totally fine just might have a couple of bruises but besides that I'm ok” You said nervously and embarrassed trying to catch your breath.

Namjoon:” At least your okay ..it could've been worse!” Namjoon said trying to make the best out of the situation.

You: “Exactly” you said lastly.

Luckily, after seeing you fall a nice gentleman gave up his seat as you looked tired and overall because he felt bad you got embarrassed and fell in front of literally a whole train of people.

You: “Thank you” you said as you walked towards the seat. It was in front of Namjoons so basically you were facing eachother. The train started to get less packed by each stop.

For the rest of the 7 minutes train ride you couldn't stop thinking about how handsome Namjoon was. You kind of were glad that he was able to help you up and be all nice when you fell. You tried not to maintain eye contact and just sat there deep in your thoughts during the rest of the train ride back home.

In Namjoons Mind:- He actually was still very concerned for you after the fall but couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful you are. It was literally love at first sight. He stole little glances at you here and then to see if you were okay and to see if you got out the train finally and also because of how god damn gorgeous you are to him.

On the other hand, Namjoon was going back to the dorm after a night out with his manager. His manager went home with his wife as they lived about 5 blocks away from the BTS dorm. That left Namjoon to take the train all the way back to his dorm as the night out was in a unpaticular area he never been to but his manager nicely told him where his stop was suppose to be.

Suddenly it was 1 minute until you got off the train as it was approaching your stop to go finally home and once you got off quickly to avoid anything else from happening and to just want to be home at last, you heard a voice particular to the man (Namjoon) who you fell on top of.

Namjoon- :”Exuse Me!” he said walking fast practically running trying to catch up to you as of how fast you were going home.

Namjoon- “Exuse Me Mrs!”

You turned around to the sound of his voice as your eyes came practically big at the sight of Namjoon that made your stomach flutter.

As soon as you turned back he finally watched up to you.

You were practically leaving the train station when he told you-

Namjoon; “Hi, *out of breath* i just wanted to say that your beautiful and we should be friends or hang out someday..”

You: *you were suddenly shocked at the words coming out of his mouth as you smiled shyly covering half of your smile.

You: Thank you! I actually not going to lie i think your very cute and handsome and sure maybe we can get to know each other more!” You said trying not to blush but failed miserably.

Namjoon- *Namjoon telling that you were kinda shy*

“Also, again don't worry about the fall i know how you feel its totally understandable.”

You: “Thanks i appreciate it, it was kinda embarrassing.. but I'm okay.”

Namjoon- Thats all that matters..Anywway my name is Rap Monster I'm the leader from the kpop group/boy band BTS I'm not sure if you have heard of it and basically we live in a dorm 5 blocks from here.

You: “Oh wow i live right here on Talé Street! It’s really not that far! I actually never heard of your boy group but now i will find more about it for sure!” you said.

Namjoon- “Im actually coming from a night out with my manager.. but without the boys”

You: “Oh cool i just came from my dance practice and I'm extremely tired.” You said.

Namjoon- Maybe we can meet up with each other and maybe the boys?

You: “Sure!I would love to it seems like fun!”

Namjoon- Trust me.. it will. Anyways do you mind if i get your number so ic an contact you?

You: “Oh yeah sure!” you said as you hurriedly told him your number.

Namjoon- I will text you when we can meet when I'm off at the dorm.

You: “Sounds Good!” you said satisfied. “Okay see you later” you said, walking away in amazed shock from what just happened.

Namjoon- “Goodbye!” said Namjoon as he turned the other way and headed back to board the train that was already there back to the next 2 blocks that the dorm was from your city.

In the meantime, you hurriedly went through the cold dark streets of Talé Stret you were scared if anything will happen as you always hated coming home late at this time from dance and you kept overthinking still and you mind hasn't yet still processed that your love at first sight crush just planned to be friends with you and that he liked you.

Namjoon, still on the train, couldn't wait to tell the BTS members back at the dorm about this exciting experience.

SO as you can see, this is such a long scenario.. i know but part 2 will be coming soon and this might have grammar or punctuation mistakes because it is late its 11pm and i kinda am in rush to fix it and yeah.
