I've found it hard to pin down what exactly it is about becoming a parent that gives one such confidence and... I don't know, just a wonderful no fucks given attitude that is a huge relief after the "does anyone like me" anxiety of one’s younger years.

Well, I've figured out there are a few components to this.

Firstly, parents lack the energy to give a shit. lol Simple as that. This may also just be a getting older thing. I'm sure the older you get, children or not, the less you can find it within yourself to be genuinely upset about or invested in people's opinions of you.

Secondly, you're raising some tiny human beings who are turning out pretty cool. Who impress you with their wit, their wonder, their compassion and their creativity more and more each day. You love hanging with them more and more as they become their own people. And these small human beings think you... are awesome. They give you compliments. They love you. They ask for your advice and they *get* you.

What else, I ask, could one possibly need? The world's opinion of you pales by comparison.
