Therapy part 1 is stuff like learning how you don’t have to lug a giant backpack around with you all the time in order to feel safe, you can just use grounding techniques and coping skills to feel calm and also keep a granola bar in your nightstand as a symbolic way to feel prepared. Life gets much easier.

Therapy part 2 is learning that the backpack and the granola bar are both rituals that you created to give yourself a sense of control over unpredictable situations. And that you also feel you had control in past unpredictable situations where you were harmed. That you feel it was your fault that other people hurt you. And this is very bad for your self esteem, and also the fact that you’re scared enough to need a ritual at all is evidence that you still feel fundamentally unsafe. So now therapy is about learning that it wasn’t your fault, and you are lovable, and you are safe.

This part of therapy is very hard, very vulnerable work, and that’s why I’m mad about therapy right now: because I’ve actually learned how to be mad, and a lot of other useful skills, and I’m using all those skills to work on the roots of lots of different things. It’s overall very good, and it’s progress! Yay me! But it’s not easy to have be nice to myself, it’s actually very very hard and counter-intuitive and I don’t like it.

they really did outfit DT with a boys medium waistcoat and a magic wand and, briefly, for reasons, a barrister’s wig, and made him cry at least three times in less than one hour, amid 25 minutes of gender discourse that was 30% hamfisted 70% genuinely appreciated, and then they pressed the back key in a spaceship, which instantly sewed up 5-10 square miles of roads in London that broke apart to open up the center of the earth, and Donna gave up her Doctor energy through the magic of Girl Power. 59 minutes of pure confusion starring a gremlin from gremlins (1984) but I have to say, I enjoyed myself.

for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal

before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"

and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.
