#but let's leave the canon untouched meanwhile

with gojo, geto and even kenjaku dead, do you think satosugu's story is completely over? because for me personally, if this is the end of their story, it feels kinda unsatisfactory and inconclusive. i hope we get more content and there are so many questions about their story that still need to be answered. i dont expect gojo's censored last words to geto to be revealed ever but i hope we get at least a somewhat conclusive ending.....
Their story had a conclusive ending, they're not the main characters so no matter how much we crave for more bits of satosugu this is what we have and this is how they ended. I don't necessarily find it unsatisfactory considering both of them served their purposes and we got another top notch satosugu angsty crumb till gojo's last breath (that panel of him saying "my only disappointment is that you weren't there to give a slap on the back" and geto's tears). I don't think we should drag it out or find any other means to insert more stsg when it isn't even their story, sad but true. This is it for us, they happened, it was beautiful and then it ended.

I am such a hypocrite , I will defend Hawks from mha who was fantasized as a cheater from that 2020 trend, that he doesn't have a shitty personality and won't cheat meanwhile when it comes to Gojo I usually agree to people that he would cheat on the girl he is in relationship or married , when both of them are characterized as playboys , womanizers by the fandom
Lmaooo😂🤣
ANONNIEEE WHAT?!
Okay I'm obliged to defend my man actually. Because he would NEVER, like never EVER cheat on this s/o.
Look at him! He's still not over his ex?? And it's been like what? TEN YEARS? Literally there's much canon material that this man is beyond loyal (look at him and suguru). His loyalty towards his ideals, friends and students is already high enough, I'm sure it'll be more than doubled with his s/o.
Suguru and him is such an easy example because Suguru was the first person Satoru ever opened up to and we all have seen how this man acted when Suguru betrayed him. All of his rationality left him. Ten years later? Still the same thing. He saw Suguru for a moment and all he was filled with memories of 3 years and his rationality left him causing him to be sealed. HE COMES BACK and the first thing he wants to do is mourn over Suguru.
He thinks and feels deeply about betrayals. He's been betrayed, by his best friend, by his one and only and that thing broke him. He knows the pain of betrayal and he feels it everyday.
Plus he is the Gojo Satoru. The strongest sorcerer. The honoured one. His name is widespread and famous throughout the entire planet. There are bounties on his head. People and curses, alike, want him dead. But his powers, his infinity makes him untouchable. He relishes in the fact he's the strongest and he does NOT tolerate ANY threat to his powers. Toji who almost killed him? Dead. That whip from movie zero what negated/ignored cursed techniques? He made sure to get RID of that thing THOROUGHLY!! He doesn't even drink/can't drink alcohol.
It's absolutely impossible for him to turn off infinity for a quick nut and allow a person to see him in the vulnerable moments of sex. Like no that's NOT Satoru.
Also this bitch is probably ridiculously busy. This man has missions, 5+ kids to handle, busy eating sweets and an ungodly amount of food WITH an overcooked brain.
So in my opinion.
He doesn't or cannot open up his heart to anyone but if someone does manage to do the impossible, he's doomed.
If you come into his life, make your way through the walls he built up, give him all the love he deserves and never got, be there for him and understand the kind of person he is without judging him and letting him be himself with you. If you see through the facade of the strongest, being rich and handsome and see the kind of person Gojo Satoru is, love him for who he truly is.
Gojo Satoru will worship the ground you walk. You will be in the center of his world. Sometimes, he'll even treat you like a delicate little butterfly who he can't hold on to tightly but also who would fly away, fly away from him, never to return. He knows you're a human but he nonetheless still treats you just delicately and with full of love, hoping you would never leave him.
Also, if you manage to win his heart, he can only see you. No one, absolutely no one in the world compares to you. All other people seem so uninteresting and bland to him. Other than his responsibility, he really could care less about the other people.
Oh- by no chance I'm saying he's flawless. He's absolutely flawed, perhaps he has way too many flaws. He's also an attention whore who is ridiculously arrogant. But he's still not a cheater, never a scum who would break someone's trust. Never.

If you haven't done so already, do you have any particular headcanons for Xiao Xingchen?
I've always seen him as a very interesting character, from his fife as the pupil of an inmortal master, to his views about the world. I specially find the image of the folk hero he seems to have incredibly appealing, although I feel it gets left behind in the background of the story. But what do you think?
boy do I!!! I have a stack of Xiao Xingchen headcanons that just might together stack up longer than the entire yi city arc in canon. I have long experience with building a large edifice of headcanon upon a relatively slim amount of actual text, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about Xiao Xingchen. I'm sure this comes as a complete surprise to everyone.
one important headcanon to me is the sort of...pair that Xiao Xingchen is a very sociable and extroverted person, and he has major abandonment issues. I feel like the first one is something where the perception is otherwise because he's not exactly boisterous and he has this "untouchable immortal" reputation following him around making him out to be something more than human (which also renders him less than human, but I've talked about that before).
but Xiao Xingchen loves people, I think - he believes in people, yes, but he also just generally genuinely likes them. he likes to talk to people. now, this doesn't always mean he's good at it - the other thing about Xiao Xingchen is that he's kind of weird and socially graceless - but he's a very friendly person by nature.
this makes his utter isolation post-baixue even sadder, because I don't think it's because he can't make connections, or doesn't want to - I think he's not letting himself try. he's cut himself off from trying to make friends. prior to that I think people tend to hold him at a distance, because other people perceive him as untouchable/distant and project that onto how they interact with him, and if they do interact with him he's weird and socially graceless which can be a turn-off for further interaction. afterwards he's just doing the same.
and meanwhile! all this is happening and Xiao Xingchen is in a state of continual low-level homesickness (the world is harder and meaner than he thought it would be, he can never go home, he genuinely believes in his decision to descend but also it hurts sometimes), and he has his one companion who is the best ever but even so...that's one person and I think Xiao Xingchen craves more connection than that. but because of who he is and who he's chosen to be, he doesn't have that community that he desperately misses, and he's not willing to compromise himself in order to find it the simplest way (i.e. by joining a sect).
the dream of creating a sect is, I think, a little more Xiao Xingchen's than Song Lan's - not that Song Lan's not in favor of the idea, but I think he'd be more content without it, continuing to be independent, than Xiao Xingchen is. but he also has his temple to go home to (until he doesn't).
and for extra spicy fun my headcanon has always been that Xiao Xingchen is very tactile while Song Lan is...the opposite, and while Xiao Xingchen would never complain and might not even acknowledge it to himself, he is perfectly content with the non-physical state of their relationship, of course, he would like to be cuddled and that's just not something Song Lan generally feels up to doing.
and then!! and then Song Lan lashes out at Xiao Xingchen, pushing him away, and the closest person Xiao Xingchen has to home is torn away from him, and then his actual home is taken away again (because he goes back for Song Lan only to have to leave again, really forever this time), and he's on his own wallowing in guilt and self-loathing and very determinedly being Alone until a-Qing shows up and basically goes "mine now" and adopts Xiao Xingchen as very much hers. A-Qing is so important for the way that she walks into Xiao Xingchen's self-imposed solitude and just moves in without taking no for an answer. that's, I think, part of why Xiao Xingchen loves her so much.
but after Song Lan there's definitely a low key assumption for Xiao Xingchen, I think, that people will leave him eventually. I think he always tended toward a little bit of clinginess, but after he gives up his eyes that clinginess both increases exponentially and also becomes an exercise in intense self-denial. he won't let himself be clingy with the people he cares about even if that is what he desperately wants to be. nobody would want to live with us in this coffin house.
there's an exchange that I'm really quite proud of in The Care and Keeping of an Unexpected Captive:
“You like - you like feeling like a hero. Like you’re - saving the world, all the pathetic people too weak to save themselves, there’s you, righteously battling evil, kind, generous–” Words that would be compliments from someone else Xue Yang spat like insults. Xiao Xingchen drew back. “That’s not it,” he protested. “I don’t care who knows me, or if anyone does. I’m not looking for fame or glory–” “No,” Xue Yang said, his voice harsh, “you just want people to love you.”
and I don't think Xue Yang is wrong. he's not 100% right either - Xiao Xingchen does believe in his mission, and does just genuinely want to help people and do the right thing.
but he also really, really, really wants to be loved, and is very afraid that he won't be.

Rewriting Ninjago s11 part 3
Tumblr media
Ice chapter episodes 16-23
Okay first of all I think I’m retconning the whole over hype of the never realm being the worst realm ever because like in actuality, there’s still the realm of dragons and Oni, and like the realm of the departed. Sorry a few icicles don’t hold a candle to the realms of devils and eldritch horrors respectively. Instead Wu tells us that his father said it was horrible, yes but mostly lonely, hoping that Wu would never have to go there. Instead of being just horrible, we’ll place a little more emphasis on the sadness, the point of no return (I mean ig this still works as canon, I just wanna emphasise it).
16 The never realm
Tumblr media
The ninja enter the same as the show, Cole losing the tea leaves and the bounty falling. Apart the bounty falls into a large body of water and sinks. Before that water immediately freezes over. Huh. An important thing to note is that when they find the frozen village, the corrupted ice is strange. It actually works kinda like the mirror in the explorer’s club, showing someone their fears or at least a terrible vision. As well as this, it’s still corrupting and spreading, nearly freezing one of the ninja’s hands off when they tried to touch it. The ice doesn’t seem to affect Lloyd as much though, due to his dragon/Oni heritage. The ice continues to spread outwards as if it came from a source within the trees and it turns out the ice wolves prowl around the outskirts, notably not nearing the edge of the ice. Wolves they can outrun, untouchable ice floor they cannot. So they flee until they find the tribe of Ice fishers, a lonesome yet lively village of fishers who make do and scrape by with what they’ve got. They meet Sorla who showed them to the hearth fire which she explained was the source of life and joy in the village. She explains that the ice of the never realm reflect many things, the dark fears within people’s hearts, the loneliness that lingers in the snow, but that with a little hope, the hearth fire can answer much needed questions. They use the fire to find Zane, but they only see the Castle of Ice, filled with ice samurai. The same scene plays out but I’d like to note that I want to change Vex’s design, because I have a different idea for how that character concept should be used. Idk what I’d change it to, maybe remove his icicle moustache lol (Ik it’s iconic but it wouldn’t make sense later, we can give it to someone else I promise). Meanwhile, Vex, spying, tells the ice emperor that strangers have arrived. Vex starts to say “maybe-” before the I.E waves his hand, and with hesitation, Vex turns around and orders the ice samurai to March. We get a shot of the ice emperor’s face and end episode. So yeah sorry vex enjoyers (if there are any), but I’m uprooting and yeeting the canon vex out of the show lol.
17 Fire maker
Tumblr media
This episode Kai learns how to play support. It starts off the same but when Kai asks about lighting a new hearth fire, the people tell him that no other fire could be lit, it was lit by a strange man a long time ago (it’s the fsm but the theorists can figure this one out) and that this fire is their only hope. When Kai tells Sorla about how he wishes he could’ve used his elemental fire to make more fire, she says “it’s not about burning bright, but saving firewood for when it matters”. Kai doesn’t understand but oh well. They have to defend from the ice samurai, nothing new, the ice samurai snuff the fire. Everyone is sad, because that fire was their only hope. perhaps the corrupted ice starts to creep in and Kai sees he’s reflection, a sad lonely Kai, who failed to protect everyone. Then Kai gets up and points out how they’ve always been cheerful before, that they’ve braved the harshest winter without falter and that their hope was in each other. And he’s not gonna let some ice tell him he has to feel sad or scared with out his powers, because it only limits him. Even if he has to try everyday in every how, he’ll light that fire. Everyone gets inspired, because they’re in it together and even if it’s hard they’re gonna hope and try, so they all get fire wood, and then Kai tries, fully tries. And the wood starts to spark. Even if it’s a small spark it catches, and they have fire, and Kai is named fire maker. And fire means hope, which Kai made for them and himself. (I just thought this ep could’ve been more emotional and less “your elemental powers are still there lol”)
18 An unlikely ally
Tumblr media
It starts the same with Nya and Jay moving snow, however Cole is kinda distant/distracted but he does start to run on about how Nya could have just used her powers, Nya throws the snow ball. Would like to point out that Jay tries to ease the tension (I’m gonna do something with him I swear). Then they go over to Kai who’s living the good life and Nya gets more upset. Sorla tells her that’s she’s more than just her elemental powers, that as a person, she’s enough, no one is asking her to be the water AND ice elemental. Nya responds by saying “but the ice elemental isn’t here”. Then Lloyd shows up and firstly tries to comfort her “you’re not useless!” And secondly he tells her that he’s going to launch a sneak attack on the Ice Emperor. As the only one immune to the corrupted ice which has frozen over a sea surrounding the ice castle (Note: yes in this rewrite, Zane is on an island in the middle of an albeit frozen ocean, as a homage to his father’s lighthouse >:) ), he’s the most logical choice. (Nya tells Lloyd that he sounds like Zane and that he should be careful not to end up like him. Lloyd “what? Being saved by the bravest ninja doesn’t sound too bad an ending does it?”. Later that day he leaves. The journey happens the same, although there is no Vex and the prisoner scene (there’s no prisoner in this rewrite). Red the wolf saves Lloyd from the ice wolves and we’re not doing the samurai in mala-wojira, instead we are just merging those scenes for time (so Lloyd shouts wojira at the wolves who then get buried before proofing into nothing), because instead, the second fight of the episode is between Lloyd and the reflection he sees in the ice, Garmadon, who taunts him being alone, thinking he could make it without his friends, and it starts to get to him before Red says stfu and bites IceReflection!Garms. Lloyd then realises he does have a friend and they continue on their merry way until they see the Titan Mech.
19 The absolute Worst
Tumblr media
…is the absolute best episode I’m not changing anything
20 The message(//secret of the wolf)
Tumblr media
So I’m merging these two episodes together, and switching the ep order around so the last of the formlings happens before the travellers tree and Krag’s lament and secret of the wolf does not exist. It’s basically the message but instead of the bird, its the ice dragon, Lloyd finds the message and akita is revealed. Idk how exactly it fits together, all ik is that the bird and the ice behemoth fights are so freaking unnecessary. I’m aware squeezing two eps in one might frick with the pacing but would you rather watch Lloyd get eaten by a bird or watch Zane angst? Also lloyd takes Zane’s recording with him, idk he puts the hard drive into his hand held device. Which I’ve decided, had a strap. Which the ice dragon snags, trying to drag Lloyd in the air before Lloyd let’s go. Now the Zane recording is in a hand held device on a strap wrapped around the ice dragon as it flies away.
21 The last of the formlings (formally the travellers tree)
Tumblr media
So Akita explains her tragic backstory tm.
She says that the never realm has always been harsh, coated in ice that only reflects despair, but the formlings have a secret grove, beautiful and peaceful. She explains that she and Kataru were to get their animal forms. Akita was worried she wouldn’t achieve hers whilst Kataru confidently proclaimed his predictions. Vex does not storm the ceremony, everything is as planned. The problem is, after the ceremony, Akita fails to reunite with her brother, and spends days looking for him, calling his name and finding no response until one night, when that response found her. The ice emperor appeared, saying something about the only the only way to save everyone was to numb away their pain. He started freezing the village. Then Akita was attacked by his henchman, Vex. She cried “who are you! What are you doing to my village” to Vex who responded “letting it have the fate that befell your brother”. Vex pushed her to the ground. “The ice consumed him, as it will to this village! And you too if you do not hurry now”. And with that Akita fled. The anime flash back stops and Akita tells Lloyd that that was when she found out that the I.E took her brother. Lloyd consoles her says that they’re after the same goal. Which Akita points out that Lloyd wants to save his friend whilst Akita wants revenge. Lloyd expresses his worry as he knew plenty of people who let their life become ruined due to vengeance, but Akita tells him that they took her home her family and her life is already ruined. (Is this too edgy idk??)
22 The traveler’s tree
Tumblr media
This ep can be basically the same.
23 Krag’s lament
Tumblr media
This ep is also basically the same. There’s a bunch of little memorials or something that indicate that there used to be more krags (but not burial mounds because their bodies aren’t here), and Cole goes back to Krag and asks him where they went, to which Krag doesn’t know. Krag doesn’t want to leave the safety of the mountain out of fear but Cole encourages him to not live in fear anymore. They go all the way to the travellers tree where they find another memorial but not one made by Krag. Although it has ninjargon script on it, Cole tells us that it says “until spring”, and he is briefly confused. Also to their disappointment, the travellers tree hasn’t flowered due to the cold. Nya and Jay (Jay complaining about everyone splitting up) walk up, meet them, are briefly startled by Krag before they all decide to head out back to village as they see the ice dragon head towards there

7 and 8 for ur rwby muses?
( What’s the best thing about the canon you are writing? )
( What’s the worst thing about the canon you are writing? )
how do i answer these without writing a fourty-page paper...asdfghjk i'm going to push all earthly issues with where r.wby comes from (company issues/drama) and just focus on the world of remnant itself and the way the plot is laid out.
it mixes a ton of influences from anime , fairy tales and comics ! it scatches a lot of itches in my brain. i adore how the main characters are all badass females with more emotionally focused males. obviously that’s not Every character but just more examples of the contrast in this world that i cant get enough of. all the allusions and inspirational media make these characters so moldable to be inserted into endless amounts of other canons! ( don’t tell miguel ) i mean hey already been a crossover with d.c so there’s that. ( too bad i’m lazy and haven’t written half of them up. rip ) ruby and qrow’s powers are some of my favorites to write about too, i mean.. ruby can break herself down at the molecular level into blindly fast petals becoming UNTOUCHABLE!!!! THATS SO COOL!!!!! and qrow UGH . emotionally based hex-coded powers??? gimme. ( if i mention the near nine year slow burn sapphic ship this thing will be ungodly amounts of caps screaming )
the writing meanwhile leaves a bit to be desired in the way the plot sets up pieces of information and lore that are integral to the story and only tease it’s reveal. that’s the drawback to a show without a massive budget from a smaller studio. also the faunus, people with night vision and animal parts that are mistreated by other humans isn’t exactly the subtlest way to write about prejudice and racism. that’s not even mentioning The White Fang which is .. yknow, a group started to protest for equality that then briefly edged on extremism then back to freedom fighting like OKAY LETS JUST GO BACK TO THE MONSTERS AND FIGHTING PLS. it’s not the WORST thing iv seen but it’s not the BEST, yknow?? not only that, it’s a bit too much glossed over for my liking. i wanted to know how the power / morale struggle war was waged! i want internal DRAMA! this show also has a problem of pumping out side characters without letting us get to know them more than their powers and fighting style..

PAIRING: finnick odair x reader (female)
GENRE: mild-angst
WARNINGS: canon-level violence, mild mental torture
catching fire spoilers
SUMMARY:  request from anon “finnick odair x 64th hunger games victor during quarter quell, he’s been in love with the reader since forever and so the jabberjay scene was a genuine fear bc she was actually in the quarter quell”
NOTE: thank you for requesting!  hope you enjoy! :)
Tumblr media
Finnick Odair was living history.  The Capitol’s hero, Golden Boy, trophy.  Because he won the 65th Hunger Games at age fourteen, because he had hair the colour of liquid honey and eyes the colour of the sea.  Because he was an enigma and a heartbreaker.  Because his heart was untouchable, or at least that is what everyone thought.  That is what everyone believed.
What everyone did not know is that the Golden Boy’s heart untouchable heart was invaded by the sixteen-year-old girl from his district who won the 64th Hunger Games.  Finnick did not expect to fall so wholly and deeply in love with someone who the Capitol would never let him have.  He did not expect you.
And then a decade later President Snow broadcasted the announcement of the rules of the Third Quarter Quell and Finnick had thrown a glass at the TV.  And then came the reaping where Finnick forced himself not to flinch when your name was called.  Forced himself to smile when you blocked Mags’s rising hand.  Next were the chariots, where you and Finnick slipped on self-assured, well-worn masks.  And the interviews, with Ceaser Flickerman’s snow-white teeth and the single moment of rebellion before the Capitol cut the power to the amphitheatre.  Then the planes, the countdown, the Bloodbath, and that was how you got to where you were now.  Stepping over the knobby knees of trees and through the natural curtain of vines as you attempted to navigate the jungle arena.  Hoping to stumble upon one of your companions after being separated during the Bloodbath.
Then suddenly you heard yelling and the urgent rustling of plants being pushed aside while someone raced through the forest.  A chill spilt over your head and you broke into a sprint.
Meanwhile, under the overhang of a leaning tree, five people sat in the sand.  An engineer who had lost his district partner less than an hour ago, a spitfire who had no one left to love, a baker whose heart was too big for the world he lived in, a girl whose face was the symbol of rebellion, and a prodigy who could not help his mind from wandering to you like a magnet to the North Pole.
An acute shriek pierced through the air and Katniss was on her feet in milliseconds.  “Prim!”  She was tearing through the woods and the other four were scrambling up to chase after her.
“Katniss!”  Finnick yelled when he caught up to Katniss in a clearing of reeds nearly up to his waist.  “Are you okay?”
Katniss did not get to answer before a wail met their ears.  “Finnick!”  It was your voice.  “Y/N!” Finnick went blind with panic.  “No, Finnick, it’s not real.”  Katniss’s voice was a thousand miles away.
No, he thought.  How could they have gotten you?  How could they have known?  They were not allowed to interfere with the games, were they?  How was this happening?  All at once, Finnick was not so untouchable.  He cursed himself for ever leaving your side during the Bloodbath as he raced towards the sound of your voice.
Katniss caught up to him, he saw the birds.  “There just Jabberjays, Finnick.”
“How do you think they got that sound?  Jabberjays copy.”
Before she could reply the black birds came swooping in from seemingly nowhere.  They dived at their heads and pecked at their hands as they ran back towards where they had left their friends.
At the same time, you broke through a line of foliage to see Peeta, Beetee, and Johanna banging at an invisible wall as a horde of dark fingers dipped in the air.  Before them you saw the curled up figures of Finnick and Katniss, clawing at their ears.
“Oh my gosh,” you fell to your knees in front of Finnick, hitting the solid air in front of you repeatedly.  He glanced up through slit eyes just an inch and saw you.  He saw that you were alive.  He saw that you were in front of him.  He would ask questions later, he would be angry later.  You were there and that was all he needed.

dark! marcus moreno as a vigilante
warning/s: violence, blood control/thirst, death, mentally unstable character, hurt slight comfort (in the form of missy moreno), dark! marcus is a warning in and of himself
masterlist
Tumblr media
well known now that i wont be following canon AND that this is very inspired by magneto and blood-benders right? right.
Marcus and Missy have been off-radar for months. the heroics have frantically searched everywhere, but their former leader was smart to know how to erase their tracks
the Moreno family eventually settles in a quaint town where nobody was nobody and anybody was anybody. it was a perfect place for Marcus to start his new life with his daughter
i’d like to think that Missy doesn’t grow up as angsty as she did at the beginning of the movie, since the people at the town didn’t really give a shit about heroes, and in turn, she didn’t grow up with the pressure of not having powers
however, ever since her mom died, Marcus started teaching her how to defend herself, letting her get familiar with his brass knuckle rings and showing her how to use them. he will not leave his daughter unable to protect herself when he’s not around her.
Missy is a natural with the rings, making Marcus feel a dark sense of pride over her. And if anybody at school decides to mess with her? let’s just say they do NOT want to get on Missy Moreno’s bad side
since Marcus doesn’t have a steady paycheck anymore, he took up several jobs in the town, from helping the neighbors, the bakery, and even the post office. on the outside, Marcus was a struggling single dad trying his best to provide for his daughter
but what people don’t know is that he goes out every now and then to hunt down famous enemies of his teammates and new villains/corrupt people
by hunt, i mean k*ll
the finger-less gloves he wore has a new addition of metal plates on the knuckles, since his old brass rings belonged to Missy now, and he starts wearing a black bandana over his nose and mouth, mostly because he doesn’t want blood stains on his face when he comes back home
he knew how to track villains down, of course he does, he’s Marcus fucking Moreno, the ex-leader of the heroics, he knows what he’s doing and he knows how to do it well
imagine he tracks down miracle guy’s no.1 enemy, finding the person drunk off their ass in their office/lair and bursts into the room, immediately choke-holding them just by controlling their blood and slamming them on the nearest surface
“Do you enjoy making people suffer, huh? Do you like it when they scream in pain? Me too.”
he likes prolonging his fights, making sure he always had the upper hand with his control over the other and goes ham into punching and kicking them on every part of their body. he doesn’t leave a single patch of skin or body part left untouched by his fists and boots
eventually he gets his signature ‘corpse’ after the first few villains he confronted: the enemy’s nose broken, their lungs punctured because of broken ribs, their arms and legs bent unnaturally, and Marcus’s well-known ending hit, a caved in skull and snapped neck
Marcus always leaves the body behind anywhere it won’t be ignored, and always checks the news for any report of it, pleased when the reporter looks disturbed and concerned over the censored photo of the enemy’s corpse, knowing he did a job well done
when he comes home from these trysts, he heads straight into the shower, freshening up and cleaning himself and his clothes from the dried blood. Missy would already be in bed, sleeping the night away, and he would go and tuck her in, placing a soft kiss on her head, thanking whoever was up above that he still has his precious daughter
and he prays for anybody who tries to take her away from him.
meanwhile at the heroics’ HQ, everybody tries to handle the PR, dealing with the horrific corpses and the media’s reaction to it. knowing its causing an uprising over this new ‘vigilante’
the public wants to know who was behind all this violence and bloodshed, and sadly the heroics know who’s responsible but can’t reach the man at all

Just a Bit Closer
Synopsis: Xie Lian suggests taking a relaxing dip in the pond. Hua Cheng slightly freaks out. Rated T | 3400w | canon-divergent, fluff, domestic, slight angst [ Read on AO3 ]
Never again will he be so bold. His Highness follows a path of virtue. His Highness is to be untouched. His Highness—
“San Lang?”
Hua Cheng snaps his head up. Xie Lian’s attention is fully on him, his face half-curious half-amused. He hasn’t been aware that his hands were rolled into fists until now.
“It’s only a bath.”
His Highness is requesting him to bathe with him.
Hua Cheng gulps. He may be a ghost king, but he is not equipped to face this challenge.
---
Hua Cheng has endured much throughout his life.
As a child, love was an alien concept and no friend of his when endless beatings and hate had accompanied him. He’s worn battle scars that no young man’s body should ever had to receive. Wars had been waged against godly figures from the depths of Mount Tonglu to the skies of the Heavenly Court. His soul has died again and again for the anguish that had ceaselessly pierced his one person—yet it is also his soul that lives again and again and refuses to fade.
Hua Cheng is a Devastation, a ghost king, one of the Four Calamities, if not the strongest. His very name demands unwavering respect and brings even the strongest of martial gods to their trembling knees. He’s been through a lot but not one of his past challenges can come close to this.
In just a thin layer of white robe, Xie Lian stands in the middle of the pond. He’s pouring another bucket load of water over his head, completely unaware of the silver allure cast upon him by the soft of the moonlight. His under-robe does nothing to hide the rosy peaks of his hardened nipples, peeking from underneath.
It goads Hua Cheng for a little contact, a little taste.
Long locks of wet hair stick to his skin, drawing out the slender curves down his neck and bony ridges of his collarbones. A few stray strands wound up over Xie Lian’s lips and it reminds Hua Cheng of their kiss in the lake. Their first and most likely the only kiss. The one he bravely stole in the heat of the moment when all he’d meant to do is give Xie Lian a little help.
Necessary on Xie Lian’s part, completely out of line on Hua Cheng’s. He’d let his worst part get to him at the expense of His Highness’ comfort. It’s obvious from Xie Lian’s reaction—a boundary had been crossed that left the martial god catatonic to the point where he had to lie to get away from the situation. The only redeeming hope had been from within Qiandeng Temple, where Xie Lian had thankfully taken to its charm.
His eyebrows pinch and he looks away.
Xie Lian moves to the bank. The closer he gets, the lower the water level around his body becomes and reveals a shapely waist perfect for grabbing onto. Once again, that good-for-nothing under-robe does the opposite of what it’s meant to do and only serves to feed Hua Cheng’s tainted, invasive mind. The translucent material, wet to the core, plasters nicely against Xie Lian’s skin, emitting a pale pink hue.
Hua Cheng gulps.
He may be a ghost king, but he is not equipped to face this challenge.
It had started with a simple question.
“Do ghost kings not take baths?”
Hua Cheng paused mid-sweep and looked back at Xie Lian curiously. They’d been fixing up Puqi Shrine and cleaning the grounds, after leaving it unattended for several days when they went off to catch a runaway fetus spirit. Things were winding down for the day, with Lang Ying washing dishes after a not-so-successful meal and Guzi put to sleep.
“N-not that I mean anything by it! I was just thinking, how we ran around all over the land recently and we just spent a whole day cleaning the shrine, and I haven’t seen you gone washing since.” Xie Lian stopped to reflect. “I suppose there aren’t suitable places around here to properly do so.”
Hua Cheng pulled a small smile and continued to sweep away the last of leaves into a corner. “Gege needn’t worry to justify his questions. Any curious thoughts arise, this San Lang will gladly answer. I don’t know about the other ones and I don’t care to, but this one does well to remember to be clean. It would be an offence not to.”
He faltered and quickly added, “Does gege think this San Lang is filthy? I will—”
“Ah no! Like you said, it was just a curious thought” Xie Lian says. His eyes then sparkled, caught bright under the gleam of moonlight. “How about we take a dip in the pond nearby? It’s a nice little spot I found not so long ago, with a waterfall. The night is still early. I’m sure it’ll help expel the last of the adrenaline from our recent voyage.”
Which is how Crimson Rain Sought Flower has found himself in this current predicament.
Much to Hua Cheng’s dismay, it doesn’t really expel much. If anything, it invites more adrenaline and that is not what he needs right now. To be so close, in the intimate space of such private practices—Hua Cheng calls upon the 800 years of learned patience and discipline.
Xie Lian is still waiting for him. “Something the matter? I promise, this time there are no demon babies in the water.”
“…I’m dirty.”
“That’s the point, San Lang.”
That unassuming smile graces his face, as ethereal under the night sky as the time when Hua Cheng pulled him out of the lake in rescue.
How can he say no to his god?
He feels an excited trembling at his side and Hua Cheng looks down to see E’Ming wiggling to get out. A soft chuckle runs through the air.
“See? Even E’Ming wants a wash.”
Hua Cheng slaps his weapon in annoyance. “Ignore it, gege. This thing just wants to play.”
As if Hua Cheng had said a magic word, the silk band around Xie Lian’s wrist slithers itself free and gently glides towards him. Without warning, Ruoye grabs him by the waist and tugs him into the pond. Hua Cheng surfaces just in time to hear Xie Lian laugh. It’s music in the making and he hopes to hear more of it for the rest of his time.
“Looks like Ruoye wants to play too,” Xie Lian teases.
E’Ming responds by unsheathing itself and splashing water towards the white ribbon. The two sentient weapons go at it nearby, chasing frantically at each other in an almost comic-like scene. It comes to a quick pause when E’Ming casts a rather large wave of water right in Xie Lian’s direction and Hua Cheng blocks the attack with his arm.
The demon lord shoots his weapon a cold killing look. Xie Lian meanwhile tugs on an assailing Ruoye and reminds all three of them, “gentle”.
Reprimanded, E’Ming and Ruoye calm down and go off to find other ways to play. Xie Lian then turns his attention back to Hua Cheng. “San Lang, will you hand me your robe? It’s gotten dirtied from all the chores today. I’ll wash it together with mine.”
If Hua Cheng still had a beating heart, it’d be skipping out from his chest. But he doesn’t and it’s a momentary reminder of the many boundaries he mustn’t cross over. He stands unmoving, a good distance from Xie Lian.
“Is Your Highness suggesting that he wishes to see this San Lang strip? That is quite a bold request.”
“Your outer robes, San Lang! No teasing, please.”
“This one wouldn’t dare.”
Nevertheless, Hua Cheng takes pride in observing the red flush on Xie Lian’s cheeks. Rosy and heated, it’s a gorgeous contrast to his pale white skin. He often wonders what other things can make Xie Lian blush like that. A simple touch on his neck, a nip at his ear, perhaps a kiss on his—
He stops. Stop stop stop. His Highness would not appreciate these inappropriate thoughts.
His Highness, who is currently scrubbing his clothes, as if it’s not a baseless and undeserving task for a martial god to do. He does it so earnestly, as he does with everything else. Xie Lian’s eyebrows scrunch with concentration, the tip of his tongue peeking out from habit. Hua Cheng quietly watches, peeking under his arms as he lathers soap into his hair. This is a treasured moment not to be missed.
“It’s not the grand bathhouse I’m sure San Lang has in his manor, but I find this spot to be very relaxing,” Xie Lian says in a soft tone. “Hidden astray from the main road, not a lot of villagers know of its location. Nature is untouched here and it helps me ground myself.”
“My bathhouse is nothing compared to this. If gege wishes, I can build a fence around the area. Prevent outsiders from trespassing.”
“San Lang,” Xie Lian chortles, “if people pass by, they pass by. If they don’t, they don’t. This place isn’t mine. None of it is, even Puqi Shrine. I’m merely borrowing the land from which the earth has gifted me.”
Hua Cheng sneaks a loving smile. He’s always admired this side of him.
After one final dunk in the water, Xie Lian wrings both their now-cleaned robes dry and drapes them over a low-hanging branch. He gives the red robe a long look, contemplation washing over.
“San Lang, if I may brazenly ask…”
Hua Cheng halts his scrubbing to give the man his full attention.
“Earlier when you said…it would be an offence…to whom would it be an offence?”
It takes several words out before Xie Lian flutters his gaze up to Hua Cheng, already bashful from making such an inquiry. But once Hua Cheng catches his eyes, he does all he can to hold them. He wills them not to look away, yearning to convey all the feelings locked inside. The fires, the bliss, the ten thousand words he’s thought up to say in the past eight hundred years. All the little tingles of emotions bottled up and will continue to be so for he has a beloved and that beloved cannot know.
Hua Cheng tilts his head slightly forward and softens his gaze. “Someone very important.”
A short moment of silence pass before Xie Lian hums in understanding. He grabs hold of the wooden bucket, floating forgotten nearby, and returns to his own washing.
“San Lang is a very earnest person.”
Only for his one god.
“Gege is not going to question further?”
“Whatever San Lang is willing to tell me, I will listen with gratitude. I trust you have your reasons.”
Hua Cheng purses his lips, not knowing what to do with this level of trust. So he dunks his head underwater and scrubs harshly at his hair. He’s determined to get all the dirt out. All that filth that sticks to him like a parasite, refusing to leave this place that Xie Lian considers his haven.
Get out. Get out get out get out. His Highness, in all his lack of self-preservation, has invited a Devastation for a private bath and all he wants to do is touch and feel and be close, so so close with him. Patience is his forte – it’s something he’s nurtured in the past centuries but there are moments of weakness. Moments like this when he cannot contain himself and wish he can kiss gege again.
Be a thief and steal another piece of bliss.
Hua Cheng lifts his head out, a thick curtain of black hair fall around his face. He’s done now, all necessary washing complete. He should get out of the pond and wait by the sidelines.
A warm hand places on his shoulder. Hua Cheng startles at Xie Lian’s sudden closeness.
“San Lang, that is not how you wash your hair,” Xie Lian chides, a slight pout to his displeased face. “You must treat it gently else you can get knots like that. Here, let me.”
Xie Lian pulls him towards the small waterfall in the corner, leading a winding path so they stay on a shallow path. Hua Cheng lets himself be turned around and a second later, feels gentle combing down his hair. He lowers himself to a kneeling position so Xie Lian doesn’t have to tip toe.
Somewhere in the depths of his chest, a ghost heart beats.
Here, under the lull of the waterfall and vigil of the moon, a god washes his follower’s hair. The consistent rhythm of Xie Lian’s fingers massaging soap on top of his scalp and combing through his hair length brings a soothing pleasure. It is here that Hua Cheng braves to think that once again, Xie Lian is okay with his touch.
“My mother used to brush my hair while I bathed.”
Somehow, Hua Cheng can imagine an overindulged young prince melting under his Empress Mother’s loving attention, just as he’s so lucky to be experiencing the same.
“Am I currently as well-behaved as gege was back then?”
Xie Lian answers with a light chuckle, “very. In fact, I was more of a troublemaker. I’d often want to go swimming and try to wiggle out of her grasps. Mother was always too lenient.”
“With good reason, I’m sure. Gege was a beloved son—” Hua Cheng stops, not wanting to bring up unsavoury memories, and quickly corrects himself. “And must have been very adorable in his mother’s eyes.”
His hair is tugged playfully. “Cheeky San Lang.”
Fingers run along his hairline, gently pulling back to catch every strand. When the same hand moves down to his ears and brushes against the outer skin, Hua Cheng shivers in delight. It feels like something forbidden, one he gladly welcomes. No one has ever come this close in contact and Hua Cheng resolves from here on out that only Xie Lian will have the privilege.
Washing turns to a pleasant session of grooming. Hua Cheng’s sure his hair is more than clean but he stays quiet in favour of Xie Lian’s touch. His eyes drift to a lazy close, the peace creeping up on him so sneakily that he almost misses Xie Lian’s murmurs.
“I don’t…I rarely reminisce on old memories, especially ones involving my parents. They were from so long ago.”
An image of the Xianle Empress flashes in Hua Cheng’s mind. She’d been looking worryingly over him, from that time when he’d been rescued from Xie Lian’s bastard cousin.
“Then San Lang is very happy that gege is sharing a piece of his memory with him.”
He’s rewarded with a final stroke of his hair before he’s pulled towards the waterfall.
“Come, rinse. Stand under here, the water is not that heavy.”
Hua Cheng dutifully complies, happy under Xie Lian’s full attention and care. When the waterfall hits him, he tips his head slightly back and feels the suds slide down his hair. He hums in pleasure.
“Gege is right, this is very relaxing.”
Hearing no response, Hua Cheng opens his eyes. Xie Lian is wearing a dazed look, his eyes round and staring at him almost in a trancelike state. Lips slightly parted, as if in shock after discovering something unexpected.
“Your Highness?”
That seems to shake Xie Lian out of his stupor. He swiftly looks away, a nervous smile slapped on to hide the quiver in his voice.
“Ah—sorry. You’re done. Clean now…I’ll leave you. Give you priva—ah!”
Xie Lian slips on a rock in an attempt to quickly turn away. Instincts take over and Hua Cheng moves to catch him by the waist, his arm holding firm.
“S-San Lang…”
Only when Hua Cheng registers that Xie Lian is safe and away from immediate harm that he notices their close proximity. Senses become hyperaware towards the man in his embrace—the heat emitting from Xie Lian’s stuttered breathes, the pounding of his very alive heart, the skin…
Oh the warm hot skin that sends tingles through every cell currently in contact with Hua Cheng. Only a mere thin material stands between them and it’s oddly erotic to feel the cold wetness. Hua Cheng flexes his arm and watches in satisfaction the way Xie Lian jumps. His muscles feel both hard and soft under his hold and Hua Cheng would like nothing but to memorize the ridges and curves.
“San Lang, I’m—I’m cold.”
This time, he’s barely whispering.
Hua Cheng takes mercy and slowly unwraps his arm around Xie Lian and steadies the man. “Gege, be careful.”
He receives no response but he doesn’t need to. That bright red blush on his face is enough to lift the heavy weight off his chest and unchain the shackles that has settled over ever since the time when Xie Lian scrambled away their kiss. Perhaps this is different.
Hua Cheng finishes rinsing himself under the waterfall, glancing over at Xie Lian from time to time making sure he’s alright. The god seems to be back to a normal state, no longer moving in jerky ways. They’re alright. It’s going to be okay.
He can stay by His Highness’ side for just a bit longer.
When time comes for them to wrap up, Hua Cheng grabs both of their outer robes from the branch. It’s still rather damp but better than having no covering on. Which…would be quite a problem because Xie Lian’s slowly getting out of the water, not even at all mindful of the obscene display he’s putting on.
Hua Cheng blames that under-robe once again. It molds perfectly to Xie Lian’s wet skin and paints a pretty pink picture of his naked body underneath. Hua Cheng accidentally catches sight of a rather perfectly-round bottom before looking away. Thick clouds roll over the moon, dampening any source of light. At least there is some protection to Xie Lian’s virtue by the night’s shadows.
But imagination doesn’t discriminate, not to a ghost king’s mind and definitely not to a cursed weapon with a cursed eye.
E’Ming jumps at the sight of Xie Lian, joyous to see its master’s beloved come up to the shore and even more so to see him…in that state. It does a shuddering whirl before launching itself at the man.
Hua Cheng makes a displeased sound and is about to snap his fingers when Ruoye whips around E’Ming and covers its red eye. The two weapons wrestle a short while before the scimitar gives and compliantly calms.
Hua Cheng huffs. Damn thing will have a beating later as punishment for even thinking of peeking.
Their walk back to Puqi Shrine is short but sweet. Now without the bright moon, there isn’t much light for Xie Lian to see. Luckily, Hua Cheng’s silver butterflies illuminate their path and the two take to an extra slow pace.
“They’re so lovely,” Xie Lian comments with a soft smile, a warm husk to his tone. He lifts a finger that a bold butterfly has landed on and watches its wings open and close. “I’ve seen them in action, but they’re so gentle and beautiful and—and…enchanting!”
Hua Cheng gives a teasing voice. “Gege, stop. San Lang can only take so many compliments in a day.”
“The butterflies, San Lang.”
“Oh? I guess I am none of these words that gege commends on.”
Xie Lian pauses and turns his attention on him. “That’s not what I mean! I said—well…San Lang is also gentle. And lovely.”
The smile on the ghost king’s face is ever-growing.
“Anyways! That was quite refreshing, right? I can already feel my muscles relax.”
He, too, can feel Xie Lian’s muscles. Hua Cheng’s fingers wiggle on impulse and he quickly brings his hands behind his back.
“Gege’s suggestions are always the best. I am at my cleanest state.”
Xie Lian laughs and the butterflies flutter to the musical cadence. One floats near Hua Cheng and he reaches to gently play with it. His hand grazes Hua Cheng’s shoulder and the latter promptly looks at Xie Lian, searching for any signs of discomfort.
None. Xie Lian is unaffected.
The butterflies grow more daring by the second and surround the god in an illuminating circle. He in turn gives every butterfly a chance of contact with his hands and hums in delight.
Hua Cheng relishes in the sight before him.
Perhaps it’s okay to be this close. Perhaps even in a way Hua Cheng hasn’t dared to think of before. And someday…maybe someday he can show His Highness just how close he desires to be.

While it lasts
This was supposed to be kind of a S4 theory about akumatized Luka + a canon-verse Lukanette approach. I guess my hand slipped?  This is similar to my previous fic ‘Betrayer’, in which Juleka was the akumatized one.
Warning: ANGST.
AO3 _________________________
"Jagged Stone is your father" Anarka had just told her twin children.
Luka's world was shattered into pieces.
Jagged Stone. His favorite musician. His inspiration. His mother's old music partner.
Their father.
One word occupies his mind: abandoned.
And the image of him takes a 180 degree turn. From admiration to despise.
His idol abandoned him. Him and his sister. His mother too.
Why?
He hates it. He hates all of it.
He hates it so much, not even his girlfriend Marinette can calm him down like she usually does. Not even her sympathetic voice or her sweet heart melody can heal him. Neither could her hand pressed on his in comfort.
Juleka's mind had gone blank for some seconds. Memories of how fond Luka was of Jagged Stone occupying her mind. 'Cool', she thinks, and then she focuses on her brother, who is clearly in shock.
In silence. In a trance.
He can't hear anything anymore, she realizes, after noticing how he isn't paying attention to either Marinette's, her mother's or her own calls.
His heart song is strident, loud, noisy- And his eyes lose all his light, all his kindness too.
'Abandoned'
This word keeps spiraling in his mind. On repeat. In an infinite loop.
"Luka!" He hears Marinette's voice call him in alert, finally making him snap out of it and find the strength to fight the akuma that just entered his guitar.
“Marinette… Don’t abandon me…” he begs, holding her while fighting not to lose control and fall under Shadow Moth's control.
“I won’t”, she assures him, clearly supporting him. She keeps encouraging him not to fall into the darkness of the dark butterfly.
Her melody is sincere. So sincere she can’t hide her still unburied feelings for certain blond hair and green eyes that make her heart flutter. And he can see it: the moment that is bound to happen, the moment Marinette will break up with him to go to Adrien. The moment all walls separating them will collapse and they will meet each other in the tangled maze of secrets they’re currently trapped in. The crumble of the castle that allowed him the miracle to have her by his side at this moment.
“You won’t” he whispers, feeling his biggest fear close: Silence- loneliness.
Abandoned.
His arms tighten around her, holding her even closer, impeding her from moving. He pulls her so close he's even hurting her a little. Marinette slightly protests in a cry, but she’s more emotionally affected than physically. "Luka-!"
She's scared.
She wants to assure him she’s honest. She wishes to be able to give him all her love, her existence-
And his newly appeared akuma form is willing to take it all.
His guitar is now a big fish net, his body has grown 3 times bigger and his looks are similar to a sea God. ‘Glaucus’, he calls himself. The name of the God of the fishermen in Greek mythology. His hair is longer, and his belly has become a transparent fish tank, where he plans to keep his loved ones, both safe and close so they don’t abandon him.
Punishment for the ones who abandon, lie and betray.
Protection for the loved ones.
'Justice', he calls it.
He doesn’t even need a big fish tank, because his loved ones are limited. A countable number of individuals is enough for him: Marinette, his mother, his twin sister, the rest of Kitty Section… Mylène too, maybe, since he would feel bad for Ivan if he left her out of it. And he would consider Marinette's family too, since he knows how much she appreciates them.
As for punishment? It's also clear: Jagged Stone comes first, followed by Lila Rossi among others who have dared to hurt his loved ones, such as Chloe Bourgeois and Bob Roth.
Marinette trembles at the vision after he finally lets her go of her to grab his fish catching instrument. A tear escapes her eye, and slides to fall from her chin. And then she runs: because that’s the only way she can help him: run, transform, defeat him and fix the damage she will fight to prevent from happening.
But she's ignoring the most important fact. The fact that that's exactly the action which will lead to her down fall, the sight that frightens Luka the most: Marinette turning her back to him, leaving him all alone.
His song abandoning him.
Rage, pain and despair fills his heart, unable to be contained with his meditation or her music. The music he himself turned into a loud mess, sounding just like nails scraping on a chalkboard, painful to his ears and his soul.
And that’s when he traps her, his net capturing her and turning her into a small, bright pink colored mermaid, he literally swallows to get her inside the fish tank he carries inside his transparent glass made belly.
A relieved sigh leaving his throat: Marinette is now secured. She won't leave his side again. ‘Who’s next…?’ He questions himself, looking at his horrified mother, Anarka as he smirks. He'll soon have all of them in his treasured fish tank.
And what will happen to those who deserve punishment? Fish out of the water- dry fins gasping for oxygen. Dead fish with eyes as cold as their hearts. Or even better- Jagged is going to be abandoned on his own before that- just like he cold-heartedly abandoned him and his sister.
And now that he mentions it… 'Where's Juleka?'
The akuma looks for her, but he doesn't see her around. 'She can wait' he decides, his chants summoning a big sea wave to carry him to his unwanted father's hotel suite.
__________
Jagged Stone can't believe his eyes. An akuma claiming to be his son has just turned Penny into a goldfish, who is now struggling with tiny desperate jumps for oxygen to breathe through her newly acquired fins. Impossible without water. Fang is next to join Jagged's personal assistant, now tiny and convulsing.
"Who are you!? Why are you doing this!? I have no kids!! Don't lie!! Stop this! Turn them to their original forms! They could die!" The rock star angrily begs under Glaucus lashes.
"You're the one who is lying! My mother never lies, so you are the one lying when you say you have no children! You're the one who abandoned us!" He yells as angry as Jagged. "All the admiration and respect I had for you is now hate and disgust! You deserve punishment for the sake of Justice!"
"Stop right there, mermaid boy. Didn't we already make it clear what the difference between revenge and justice was when you were 'Silencer'?" Chat Noir joined the battle, protecting Jagged from being crushed under the akuma's weapon.
The akuma attacks again, but this time he's stopped by someone else. Someone Chat Noir brought along with him- a new superhero.
_______
During the time Marinette was trapped, Tikki, safe and sound, had carried a Miraculous to Juleka, who was watching terrified at how the events developed on TV. She was too focused to notice the kwami, but she clearly noticed the box that fell on her hand out of nowhere. Reaching it, she curiously opened it, and a magical creature appeared in front of her.
"Hi there! I'm Roarr. It's nice to meet you, Juleka!" The little tiger introduced himself.
"What are you? What's going on?" Juleka questioned.
"I'm a kwami. I grant powers! Put on that jewelry and call for the magical words to transform into a superhero"
"Me? A superhero like Ladybug? I don't think I can-" she nervously mumbled, unconfident.
"The guardian chose you for this mission! You want to save your brother, right?" Juleka nodded. "Then say the words: Roarr, transform me"
"Roarr, transform me" Juleka said, and magic surrounded her. Her new appearance was purple with tiger-like orange colored stripes over her body. Her mask was the same colors of the suit, and a pair of tiny ears decorated her now tied hair, her ponytail loose in the wind.
Moments later, she ran towards the hotel, unknowingly followed by Ladybug's kwami.
And the battle started.
________________
"Luka! I know you're hurt, but Jagged is telling the truth! He never abandoned u- you! He never knew he was a father! He probably doesn't even know by now!" The new hero desperately yelled.
"Lies! All lies! He deserves punishment! And you do too!" The akuma points at the heroes and Jagged who is hiding behind them.
"I'll show you the truth!" The tigress announces, calling for her superpower.
Her claws become shiny and with one touch, she marks an ‘X’ on Jagged's forehead, and a purple cloud comes out of his mouth and surrounds them, as if they had just entered his dreamland- except it's, in fact, the rock star’s memories.
Luka is in denial. It is true. Jagged Stone never knew about them. Which means he abandoned them unknowingly. Was he innocent, though?
No, he wasn’t. Because he had indeed abandoned his mother.
_______
Meanwhile, Marinette had been trying to find a way out of the fish tank. She couldn't transform into Ladybug even if Tikki was free, because that would make her identity public. She needed another plan.
That's when she asked Tikki to get Juleka the tiger Miraculous- and it had, once again, been the right choice.
Marinette couldn't just stay still, watching. She fought to find a way out.
Making use of the constant moving water, and with Anarka and Kitty Section's help, she found a way up, arriving to his heart. Or was it the akuma’s heart? It didn’t matter to her as long as she could save him.
The sight was not what she had expected: a vast sea surrounded by colorful stained glass with the people he cared the most portrayed on them. Anarka, Juleka and Kitty Section were there. Big, colorful and shining bright.
Marinette continued swimming in his inner tormented sea of darkness until she found another glass under a cliff: hers. It looked beautiful, but unreachable, since a rose garden guarded and protected it. Untouchable beauty.
Was this Luka's vision of her? A beautiful flower surrounded by thorns, with green stains on paint messing with the almost perfect piece of art’s balance and making it painful to watch?
Marientte felt her heart ache in guilt.
She knew she was the cause of the hurt in his eyes which he sometimes looked at her with. He had always seen through her, despite how much she had been starting to believe her own lies about ‘moving on’ and ‘love’.
Marinette shook her head: no time to waste. Cry later. Focus now.
Her tail brought her to a cliff island with a broken stained glass window next to it. The one that belonged to Jagged Stone, as his name was written on a rock. It most likely broke at the revelation of Jagged being Luka’s father, but now the window was pitch black, with the pieces scattered on the floor. Silent.
She could feel his fears of being abandoned in her own skin, and froze at the realization: his endurance and his strength were only there thanks to music. A music his heart lacked at the moment.
Music.
That's the answer. Music was what healed his heart. This time too, he needed music.
But what could she do without musical knowledge? Or without any instrument to play?
'My voice' she notices. ‘I still have my voice’
Marinette starts singing her own heart song as composed by Luka, while the battle outside continues, now with their visit to Jagged Stone's memories.
Perfect timing.
And clouds appear over Jagged's glass window, the wind carrying some pieces back to its original place- partly reconstructed.
Maybe the mermaid form had another purpose, Marinette wonders. Maybe Luka couldn't completely let go of music, after all, whether he was akumatized or not. Or maybe...
Back to present, Marinette sees a light up that lifts her out of Luka's insides. Next time she blinks, she has recovered her original appearance- clumsy human girl Marinette.
"Run!" Chat Noir commands, and she obeys. As she runs, she gazes back at Luka, who shows her a painfully sad smile.
"Marinette!" Her kwami calls her before she can give it deeper thought. "Tikki! Spots on!"
Moments later, Ladybug makes it to the battle. "Lucky charm!"
____________
The battle ends soon. Too soon, to Ladybug's surprise. ‘Why did he offer no resistance?’
She'll have time to think about this later. First… "Miraculous Ladybug!" Ladybug rushed to recover Juleka's Miraculous so they could go back to Luka as soon as possible.
"Thank you, Ladybug" Juleka says, running off to hug her brother.
Marinette detransforms next and soon reaches them too. But she hesitates again. Should she be by his side when she hurts him so much?
Luka meets her gaze and smiles softly, apologetically and embarrassed, but clearly welcoming her. And she doesn't hesitate anymore to join their collective hug, melting in love after a swirl of emotions. They part from the hug and they all focus on Jagged Stone who is still processing what happened.
"Wait a second- Are you really my children…? You thought I abandoned you…?” Jagged asks the twins, before turning his head to Anarka. “Why didn't you tell me? Weren't we partners? 'Rock-'n'-roll until the crocodile controls'. Remember?"
"You said you wanted to go solo. You left me behind. Did you really expect me to go back to you after the humiliation I suffered? I gave you my heart and you threw me away as soon as you could!" Anarka yelled.
"I was young and immature, and not the best father figure, I admit it! But I deserved to know! You should have told me!"
"I'm telling you now! They are your children, Luka and Juleka. If you ever want to meet them, you know where we live. Don’t you ever come back if you plan to abandon them later" Anarka says, grabbing her children's shoulders and guiding them to move out of the hotel room with a push.
"I'm sorry…" Luka mumbles to Jagged, before leaving the room.
"I'm the one who is sorry…" Jagged admits to Marinette before she runs to follow the Couffaines and Kitty Section. “I’ll go visit sometime! I promise!”
“Are you ok, Luka?” Marinette asks after leaving through the hotel doors, seeing how Jagged is looking at them from the highest balcony.
“I will be. Eventually…” he returns his gaze down to focus on Marinette, reaching to hold her hand. “I don’t need Jagged’s music as long as I can listen to yours''
Marinette feels her cheeks burn.
________________________
On their way home, Marinette can’t take what she’s seen out of her head. ‘It was Luka's heart, right? And Luka’s true feelings. He truly loves me’, she realized. ‘But why…?’
With an instant of bravery, Marinette pulls Luka's hand to separate themselves from the rest of his family and friends.
"Luka… I- Am I painful to be with? To watch?" She bites her lip a bit and asks in terror. “Am I hurting you?”
"Of course not, Marinette. Never.” Luka assures her with a soft, faint smile. “You're more than I could ever ask for. You're the most beautiful song I've ever heard"
"Even if I have those unbearable to watch green stains...?" she whispers, embarrassed and angry at herself for not being able to make her feelings go according to her wishes.
"It can’t be helped, can it? And even if that’s the case, for me, you’re still the most beautiful despite those colors"
“Is my heart song really enough to cover for that ugliness? I hate it myself…”
“You shouldn’t. Imperfections can enhance beauty. I don’t mind them as long as I can hear your song up close” he answers.
“But-! Are you sure…? Aren’t you afraid I might end up abandoning you?” she finally asks, scared for his answer.
“I am. I’m terrified” he admits. “But how am I supposed to stand in the way of your wishes- your happiness? I can’t and I won’t do that” Luka shrugs, “Aren’t you scared of being abandoned too?”
“I am” she answers, after giving it some thought. “and that’s not the main reason for it, but I want to stay by your side” she realizes, “more than ever”.
Luka squeezes her hand and shows her a soft expression. “Thank you for always saving me. Akumatized or not,” he whispers to her ear. It surprises Marinette to see how his cheeks are pink over his fond smile.
“No-! I- I just sang a song and- It was all thanks to the new her-” she stopped herself. Luka couldn’t possibly remember what happened when he was akumatized. No one told him, no one showed him the news. He couldn’t know he turned her into a mermaid, or how she sang. Yet he thanked her for saving him.
‘Of course he knows’ Marinette understands. ‘Yet he didn’t reveal me to Shadow Moth and he let me go on purpose, too’. Her thoughts deepen. ‘I get it now’ she reaches her conclusion. ‘He wanted me to save him. He wanted me to take him back after he realized he was on the wrong side. It makes sense. He protected me despite being akumatized once again- like when he was Silencer’.
The girl’s feet stop walking for a moment at the revelation, causing Luka to look back at her. Taking one step closer, she raises on her tiptoes and gives Luka a kiss on his lips, surprising both of them.
‘I wonder what kind of music his heart is hearing now,’ she wonders, ‘because I can only hear a grateful and sincere happy tune in my own heart right now’
“Your heartsong is beautiful” she finishes with a smile he reciprocates.
Most likely, both of them knew deep inside that their relationship as it was now was bound to end at some point, sooner or later. Maybe both of them would always be afraid of loneliness and being abandoned, too. But wasn’t it enough to enjoy the music they created in that instant, while it lasts? Isn’t it the same with live concerts? They might end, but the sensations last forever in memories. Is it something to regret? Neither of them felt it was. And perhaps both of them secretly agreed with that logic as they continued walking hand in hand, enjoying each other's company and welcoming their mutual love and support, in whatever form their relationship changes into in the future.

Minetaverse: The KiriBaku Scandal + KiriBaku Kids
In the Minetaverse, there is one moment in the timeline that caused basically every source of pain for this universe's antagonists and protagonists.
This event would be the KiriBaku Scandal.
To set the scene, KiriBaku was basically the power couple. They are both from the famous Class 1-A, they are both super powerful, they were both at the center of villain attacks at a young age, and finally they balance each other out perfectly.
So, why the scandal?
You see, I have a big issue with canon Bakugou. It is no secret on this blog I don't like how he is handled from warping other characters personalities whenever he is in the same panel to the general lack of consequences for actions that are uncomfortably abusive in nature.
He is the weakest link for me in Boku No Hero Academia, but considering how on the Minetaverse I leave canon mostly untouched I decided I would write how I believe Bakugou would turn out after UA.
Also known as a huge dick.
Bakugou is extremely work driven. Bakugou is constantly chasing the number one title, antagonizing Midoriya even after all these years, while also having to battle Yaoyorozu threatening his number two spot.
This in turn makes Bakugou displeased with Kirishima's hero career. From Kirishima forming a hero duo with a shitty extra (Tetsutetsu), and Kirishima being perfectly happy ranking in the top twenty-five.
Work driving a couple apart is a common trope, but with Bakugou's workaholic nature he is often out of the house and Kirishima being the traumatized extrovert he is crashes at the Kaminari-Sero-Tetsutetsu-Shishikura household so he isn't the warm body in the house. Bakugou is also an early riser, so if Kirishima does wake up at the apartment then he is greeted by a cold bed.
To summarize, what originally drew Kirishima to Bakugou (his determined nature and his desire to win) causes Kirishima to fall out of love.
Kirishima, a little desperate to keep their marriage a float, suggests having children since all their friends are starting families.
Intermission:
We interrupt this post to bring you this op approved message. The KiriBaku Kids: Rapidfire.
Akihada Bakugou; Quirk: Bombshell: In Bakugou's words, he has the perfect combination of their quirks. He secretes nitroglycerin from his skin, and it ignites when in contact with another living organism or object. This also provides a form of built in armor. (Short Version: Static from metal shocking you except it is an explosion) His secondary quirk allows him to ensure the explosions.
Genkei Bakugou; Quirk: Mineral Explosion: Genkei can cause the grains of the earth to set off explosions. He does this by directing his hands at the area he wishes for the explosions to go off.
Now Back to Regular Posting:
Kirishima was overjoyed to see the quirk created kids, and spent a good time with them. Bakugou backed off of his work to properly instill the desire to be a hero within his kids throughout the years.
Small problem, Akihada doesn't want to become a hero at all. Upon learning his grandfather (Masaru Bakugou) is a fashion designer he discovers a love for designing clothes and fashion in general. When Akihada expressed this it caused what is known as the KiriBaku Scandal.
Aka, their divorce.
Both kids mental health went down the drain as they were at the center of it all. The papers being filed, the custody battle, the reporters hounding them. This was a big deal as KiriBaku was viewed as having an unshakable bond.
In the end, Kirishima left with Akihada (considering the reason Kirishima finally pulled out the divorce papers was Bakugou refusing to let Akihada to enter the support course) and Bakugou was left with Genkei.
The reason this is considered a scandal is because the Class of 1-A, considering a tight nit family in the eyes of the public, unraveled at the seems. Suddenly it became clear that the environment they were in around each other was toxic whether they wanted to admit it or not. The background classmates getting overshadowed with little help or interaction with their more popular classmates. The way Kaminari and Mina were dismissed due to their intelligence. Bakugou and Midoriya's 'friemdship' coming to light. It does not help that Class 1-A was still recovering from the sexual assault charges against Mineta.
The faith in Class 1-A shattered, and Bakugou along with Midoriya struggled to keep their top ten spot due to the fact their found family story absolutely fell a part. During this time, focus turned to Class 1-B which caused a boost in popularity for Amazon (Kendou) and Bulletproof Hero: Real Steel (Tetsutetsu).
Not only did it shake up the hero charts, it also caused hero infighting from those not even close with Class 1-A. This lead to heroes refusing to work together, which lead to abandonned districts and routes, which lead those who lived on the streets to have to protect themselves, which lead to haywire quirks, which lead to orphans and children to get thrown in Remediation left and right, which lead to bitterness and resentment that cause the ambitions of the Minetaverse protagonists and antagonists.
Now, where are Akihada and Genkei in all of this?
Akihada, already terrified of his quirk due to the fact no one can touch him without getting hurt which also means the boy has never had any physical contact in his life, basically works himself into the ground to prove to Kirishima and the world that the divorce wasn't for nothing.
Meanwhile, Genkei didn’t have a good role model growing up as Bakugou lost himself into his violence on the field and his work. Genkei naturally adopted these traits. Genkei also works hard because he feels like Bakugou is disappointed in getting the weaker son so he wants to prove himself to his father.
That is the KiriBaku Scandal, not fun.

How do you think Silver & Flint's relationship would have evolved if things hadn't ended the way they did in S4? How do you think things would have progressed through time? I tend to think about the what ifs a lot. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on it.
OOFT. I mean i have many thoughts! It’s... very hard to say really. Because i think one thing Black Sails does incredibly well is the way it builds a story and a character. Many choices made in this show are so dependent on what the characters want and who they intrinsically are and how they influence each other (willingly/knowingly or not), and i feel like there are many very complex interwoven roads that led them to the conclusion they got to. Which is one of the many reasons the finale felt like such a tragedy; you know things are going to end badly because you kind of see it coming. And dear god it does hurt, even with Flint being reunited with Thomas.
So. I think there are two ways to answer this question, and you can sort of divide them into canon-ish versus fanon wish. These may not exactly be clearly indicated bc like i said i have Many Thoughts, and i apologise in advance 😅 Another thing i’ll be looking at here is something we had to lay out for our characters when i studied acting - the goals/objectives/motivations of the character, and their emotional/mental state. None of this is meant to be critical against any character. I simply adore analyising them and the paths of the story, and I love each and every character i talk about here deeply.
So, looking at that finale. There’s several things that i could take from what you say about things not ending the way they did - for now, i’m looking at the confrontation between Flint and Silver in the woods, where Silver forces Flint to quit his war and reunites him with Thomas.
Firstly, let’s analyse what we get from the canon, and what i believe motivates these characters to bring them to the point they end up at. There’s that famous line i think of Silver where he says he doesn’t know anymore where he ends and Flint begins - their thinking patterns have become so intertwined, they basically share a braincell. The tricky thing about this is, just because he and Flint think similarly, share tactics, and a knowledge of how to use people in their means, just because they understand each other well, doesn’t mean they share opinions and morals. Flint especially seems to forget this. He believes Silver is with him in his cause to end Imperial rule. But from Silver’s final actions, it’s clear Silver values his personal wants and needs above that of this abstract crowd of people. He’s not oppressed - or hasn’t felt the effects of Imperial/religious oppression (as far as we canonically know) like Flint and Madi have. And that means he doesn’t have the same drive. He’s driven by his personal connections to these people, i believe, purely from his own point of view. Like, i suspect he struggles to place himself in the shoes of Madi or Flint to feel their pain and motivation. He can see it, he just... doesn’t fully grasp it. (There’s also a question of whether he wishes to, but i feel nowhere NEAR qualified on answering that, nor do i think the canon gives us enough material to give a perfectly cut & dry answer.)
So you have this big miscommunication. Flint believes that, because he and Silver have basically become one shared braincell, they have the same goals, while Silver is still driven from a point of selfishness. (Side-note: there was a moment in the show he became selfless! He wouldn’t give up his crew when faced with torture from Vane’s quartermaster! But then he lost a leg over it and it seemed to dampen that selflessness. I think from there on, moments where he seems to be motivated by the good of the crew come instead from an internal need to belong and be loved more so than a genuine sense of brotherhood. That brotherhood may still have been there, but i think he might have suppressed that instinct a little and instead let the more selfish needs take more of a front seat. Understandable and not bad/evil, like that’s super valid of him. But my point is, he’s not exactly ready to fight for another man’s cause he doesn’t have as much of a personal emotional profit in, especially when he knows it’ll end in certain death for everyone he cares about and he knows cares about him.)
So that’s sort of where the characters are mentally in that climax. I may be skirting details and summarising a bit hastily, but it’s also been a GOOD while since i’ve watched season 4, so i apologise. Flint (and Madi as well - she plays an equally important role i think!) is fuelled by a mix of rage born from oppression/discrimination, and a protectiveness for others who may suffer the same fate. Silver meanwhile is fuelled by a need much closer to home - to be loved and to keep those he cares for and deems important to him alive and around. I’ve framed it as their emotional drive, but really it is also their goal, their objective in that finale. Flint and Madi are looking to burn down an oppressive system while Silver... isn’t. For him, their goals stand directly in the way of his. And by the end of the show, he’s gained enough power to prevail in his objective, cancelling out those of Flint and Madi.
So, could it have gone differently? I think, if we wanna play with canon and keep it as close to canon as possible... It seems almost impossible. These people’s goals just do not align. (There’s that sweet sweet tragedy again.) So what you need for it to go differently in short is for one of, if not several, of these people to change their goal. But we’re talking their MAIN objective, their main driving force at this point in the show - so like, the chances of that are slim. ESPECIALLY if we’re talking about the canon characters. After all, for that, the characters would need to look inside themselves and fucking face up to some of their issues and work on them. (This is something which these characters are not very prone to do, bc jesus it’s a mess in there and if that were me i’d preferably not turn introspective either and be forced to look at all that.)
So if we wanted Flint to change his goal, he’d need to come to terms with the Empire being untouchable - which is bullshit bc like my man has a POINT, just because they seem to be able to be brought down doesn’t mean they ain’t - and to accept the homophobia and oppression they treated him and Thomas with, which, yeah fuck that, absolutely not, his rage and his goals are valid as FUCK. If we wanted to change Madi’s - lmao like listen i understand wanting her and Silver happy together bc we ship EVERYTHING in this house, but she’s poc and proper royalty and wants to end slavery. We ain’t touching her goals. So that just leaves Silver. Silver would need to face a part of himself that keeps him from placing Flint’s goals, or Madi’s goals, over his own. (I suspect we circle back to that insecurity and need to be loved, which defo stems from whatever trauma he swears doesn’t affect who he is today.) So for that he’d uhh... need therapy. And a shit tonne of it. But then you still have the issue that Flint and Madi will likely fight their war (bc they DESERVE IT), which may lead to what Silver considers inevitable - that they will die early and horribly, and he ends up all alone.
So, looking at playing with the canon-ish to change things? It’s gonna end in tragedy. There’s doesn’t seem any other way about it, i fear; not with the way these characters were written, with who they are and what drives them and what they want. If it doesn’t end in tragedy in one way, then almost certainly in another.
So what are our other options? What if we look at the fanon wish - whether it’s silverflint, or silvermadi, or madisilverflint, or just to have these kids be fucking happy? Well, you know what? Maybe it DOESNT have to end up in tragedy. Maybe, if Silver does align himself with the goals of the people he loves - after learning to communicate and place himself in other people’s shoes and prioritise the needs of his loved ones and compromising and all that jazz (god this boy needs therapy that only the fanon can likely give him, rip) - he could join them in their war. And maybe, his genius and creativity and quick wit will in fact propel their cause forward and help so much, none of them dies an early gruesome death. It’s not impossible! It just requires that sweet sweet character growth he doesn’t get the opportunity for in canon.
Another option, and this one is perhaps a little more plausible if the show had no episode limit or a desire to end in tragedy and “align” itself with “history” (they’ve played fast and loose with real history i’ve learned, and like,, it’s a story about fictional characters so why did it have to align itself with history?? Okay fine, as a prequel to Treasure Island, it still needed to end in tragedy for Silver bc we know where he ends up. Were there no Treasure Island and no rules and we could do what we wanted with the show and write a new ending, then what?). This one is more popular, you see it in loads of fics and i like it a lot. Silver sends Flint to the plantation. Flint and Thomas break out and get their war anyway. They’re pissed at Silver for a bit for being a selfish dick shitting on Flint’s dreams, but like,, it’s not as if it stopped Flint. (We can even look at it like Silver knew they’d probably fight their war and have better odds with Thomas in the mix, giving them a better opportunity - but like, that’s just a fun headcanon to play with that i don’t think aligns with what he explicitly states to want in canon.) And then, after some years, everyone learns to communicate and talk things out and maybe, maybe, Silver grows a bit and things become healthier between him and Flint.
Listen, the moral of the story is this. I love all the ships in this show. I think they’re all neat, and i love the different iterations in which people bring them to life and try to align them with canon. Do i think that with the canon we’ve been given, silverflint could happen? Maybe. Would it be healthy?? I mean... Probably not 😅 but like, that doesn’t prevent me from shipping it. (That’s not the point of shipping - sometimes you just wanna see that sweet sweet chemistry pay off, even tho u know it ain’t healthy. The characters are fictional. It’s okay. No-one will get hurt - apart from maybe you if you end up romanticising it and taking that into real life but ooft that’s a whole other kettle of fish.) But god, that’s the fucking JOY of fanfics ya know?? It may also be why i enjoy writing my modern au so much xD therapy is an option, and canon means even less than usual. All im saying is, when it comes to the relation between silver and flint, the fan community are a fucking godsend. You want them to be friends?? We got fics for that! Want them to bone? SO many fics for that! Want a sort of father-son role?? Uhh nowhere near enough fics for that, but the fandom’s still active so you never know! Partners in crime?? Hell YEAH that has potential, even in canon i think if u just stretch out fan-written episodes far enough!! (God can you imagine the POTENTIAL?? Ignore the war, the grittiness, the drama. Get me some pirate hijinks where the stakes are low but they’re still sharing a braincell.)
(Hmm. Now i need to add another idea to my WIP list lmao xD)
Anywayyy, hope this satisfies ur curiosity anon!!

1/2. No Slate AU. Homra is a Vigilante group, their whole shtick is about defending the defenseless/taking down the corrupt by any means necessary, regardless of the law. S4 is a military/police unit is in charge of apprehending Homra members. Fushimi was home-schooled w/ his father, so he never met Yata in middle school. Niki does something to end up on Homra's radar and they track his house down to deliver their 'justice' and instead find an obviously mistreated Saruhiko, who they then kidnap.
Tumblr media
I'm imaging Homra as being kinda like they are in canon but without superpowers, like they're considered something of a gang but they protect the people in their territory and basically do what the police won't. Maybe that's sort of how they find out about Niki, like even though Scepter 4 is largely tasked with keeping Homra in check they do have something of an understanding between them as well. Niki has been on their radar for some time, known for being involved in corrupt dealings and such, but there's no hard evidence and Scepter 4 can't actually go after him without any proof. Awashima passes on this info to Kusanagi, who discusses it with Mikoto and the rest of Homra and they decide to pay Niki a little visit.
Say in this AU Niki's not just wandering around being useless all the time but he does actually have his hands in some pretty bad stuff, lending out his services as like a 'consultant' to various druglords and gang leaders. He's known to be really dangerous but also untouchable due to belonging to an old rich family. He was once married but his wife left him years ago and nobody actually even knows that he has a kid. So then when Homra goes after him they end up cornering him at his house, Niki tries to bluff his way out but Mikoto's pretty much like let's just kick this guy's ass and get it over with. Niki tries to pull a gun and in the ensuing scuffle he actually gets killed (oh no. How terrible). Kusanagi gives this heavy sigh, like it's not as if he cares that they killed this guy but it's a lot more trouble for him to try and clean up and now they'll have Scepter 4 after them again too. Mikoto shrugs and says this guy did it to himself as he lights a cigarette. Meanwhile Yata, one of the newest and youngest Homra members who was allowed to tag along, is looking around the house in amazement like wow this guy was really rich huh. He hears a noise from nearby and immediately Kusanagi tells him to be on guard, everyone wondering if Niki has an accomplice here or something. That's when this skinny gloomy kid about Yata's age pokes his head around the doorway. Everyone freezes as Fushimi stares down at Niki's dead body for a long moment before giving this soft 'heh' and then turning to walk back upstairs like nothing's happened, telling them to clean up the trash before they leave.
Obviously this presents a problem, even if Homra knows that it's going to be pretty obvious they were involved part of their whole vigilante thing is to not leave enough evidence to get caught and here they had a witness. Kusanagi notes that the info he received didn't even indicate that Niki had a child, wondering if they missed something. He tells Yata to go after Fushimi, Yata nods and runs upstairs all ready to like threaten Fushimi into keeping quiet. Instead he finds Fushimi sitting all alone in a mostly empty room, playing on his PDA as if his dad isn't dead on the first floor. Yata kinda feels like punching this guy would be bullying so he sits down next to Fushimi instead and asks what he's playing. Fushimi says it's none of Yata's business and Yata gets annoyed like hey I'm trying to be nice here. Fushimi noticeably flinches when Yata moves, like kinda shrinking back a little as if he's expecting Yata to grab the PDA from his hands. It's obvious enough that even Yata notices and he finds himself thinking like here there's this kid no one knew about who's obviously underfed, living in a mostly empty room in a big house with a dad who's known for being shady. Yata's not the most observant but even he can realize that Fushimi's probably been abused or neglected and he ends up just sitting there for a while, watching Fushimi play his game and commenting that Fushimi's good at it. That seems to make Fushimi relax just slightly and by the time the others come looking for them Yata's chatting to Fushimi like they're friends and Fushimi's cautiously answering back.
It's decided that they can't just leave Fushimi alone in this house, especially once they hear that he hasn't seen his mom since he was like three. Fushimi's wary about going along with Homra but Yata assures him that it's fine, Homra are all very cool and they fight for justice and stuff. Fushimi's already finding himself feeling strangely at ease near Yata so he nods and allows himself to be taken back to the bar where he is soon basically adopted by Homra at large. Kusanagi's initially pretty concerned, they aren't able to get much out of Fushimi but it's pretty clear that he's suffered a lot as Niki's kid and that there might be scars there that Homra can't see yet. Even so he's impressed by how quickly Fushimi picks things up, within days he's helping with balancing the budget for Bar Homra and commenting on strategy sessions for Homra's various activities.
It's noticeable from the very beginning though that even while Fushimi's hesitant around most of Homra he feels calmest around Yata. Because of this Kusanagi encourages Yata to spend time with him and help him get used to things, and soon Fushimi's got his very first crush. Fushimi of course has no idea how to handle this because he's never felt this way before and he's all worried that Yata will leave him or won't care for him back and he goes through phases of wanting to cling to Yata and wanting to push him away. Yata doesn't get why Saruhiko acts like sometimes but then he's also really drawn to Fushimi too, like the more he gets to know Fushimi the more amazing Fushimi seems and now he's also got a crush which he is totally unaware of. Meanwhile all of Homra is fully aware that these two kids are into each other and matchmaking ensues as they try to get Yata to accept that he likes guys and get Fushimi to accept that having positive emotions is a good thing and that he should just ask Yata out on a date already.

When I know the time is right for me--An AFTG Headcanon
This is for @thebashfulpoet for the @aftgexchange! I wanted to make this a full fic but with life I knew I couldnt do it justice, so have a 1.4k long headcanon soulmate AU! I really hope you enjoy it! <3 (also, i deffo stole the title from “I Have A Dream” by ABBA which is REALLY funny once u read it, trust me)
Imagine a soulmate AU where you share dreams as long as you are both asleep and dreaming at the same time
The first time Andrew and Neil meet it's when they are little kids, around 6 or 7. Neil is sitting on a swing set in a park and Andrew just shows up and is like “what are you doing?” and Neil just goes “swingin” and Andrew gets so upset at this weird auburn haired boy that he wakes himself up out of sheer spite.
That's pretty much how it goes over the next few years.
They meet in dreams and have short conversations but both of them kind of refuse to talk about themselves, so they spend a lot of time just sitting in the park swinging together. They don't exchange names even and when they talk, it's only about the small things. If pressed, Andrew might admit that it isn't terrible.
One night, a few years after their first dream meeting, Neil mentions Exy. Andrew had only heard of it once before but the other boy knows a lot about it so Andrew just lets him talk and talk about it until they both wake up. It's……..nice to listen to Neil talk. Andrew doesn't hate it.
That was the last time they met in their dreams for a long time.
Neil stopped dreaming for the most part when he and his mother were on the run. It was too stressful and very rarely did he ever sleep deeply enough to dream. Andrew was getting shuffled between homes and then, once he started living with the Spears, he stopped sleeping all together.
It had been so long that when they saw each other, they didn't even recognize each other. How could you recognize someone when the last time you saw them was when you were a little kid? Besides, Andrew has essentially sworn off soulmates. He doesn't see the point in them, not anymore.
Even after Neil moves to Palmetto, he doesn't dream. He’s too keyed up, too on guard to sleep well and at this point, soulmates and dreams are the last thing on his mind. He doesn't even really think about them at all until Nicky brings it up during practice and mentions the fact that he’s soulmates with Erik and how Dan and Matt are soulmates and wondered if Neil knew anything about his soulmate and Neil just kind of shrugs and says that he hasn't really dreamt since he was a little kid. Yet another instance of Neil breaking the Foxes hearts
A few days later, after their first official game of the season, Neil and Andrew are both so tired and worn out from the game that they dream again. It's the same park and swing set from when they were small . Andrew sees Neil and he once again gets so Angry that he wakes himself up out of spite.
The next day is Kathy’s show and when they get on the bus, Andrew’s eyes bore into Neil’s back but Neil just ignores it until they eventually drift away.
They don't talk about it, not yet.
After Seth’s death, they both stop dreaming again.
It fluctuates like that throughout the rest of the school year, up until winter break. The meds they give Andrew at Easthaven puts him in such a deep sleep that he has no choice but to dream but they morph all of his dreams into nightmares. When Neil finally gets back to Palmetto, he dreams for the first time while sleeping on Wymack’s couch. The dream they share there is…….strange. The park that they meet at is morphed and shifted into something weird and horrible but Neil and Andrew are untouched. And for the first time, Neil and Andrew talk about it. Neil doesn't have his bruises but even in the dream his hair is auburn and his eyes are blue. Andrew asks him why and Neil skirts around explaining exactly why but he does ask if Andrew is safe. Andrew avoids answering that question but they both know that he won't be truly safe for a while longer, until he's back with Neil and the rest of the Foxes.
The next time they dream together is when Andrew gets back from Easthaven. It comes after the iconic pipedream conversation and Andrew tries to point out that Neil is literally a dream to him. Neil steals the cigarette that Andrew is smoking out of his hand and they are both startled by the fact that they can touch in the dreams.
Their rooftop conversations slowly fade into dream conversations. They sit on the swing in the dream and talk as they dream, along with staying up on the rooftop (when do these fuckers actually rest?)
Andrew tells Neil about his fear of heights. That night, in exchange, Neil explains why they are always in a park in their dreams “It was my safe space as a child. No parents to hurt you in public at a park. And I liked swinging.”
From there, things continue as canon says (i rlly like canon compliant AU’s i'm so sorry lol)
Up until---- Neil’s suddenly kidnapped.
He's taken and tortured and it's nasty but when he is drugged and forced to fall asleep, something strange happens. He dreams.
Meanwhile, Andrew freaks out when he cannot find Neil and he eventually tries to strangle Kevin. After Andrew gets calm down and the Foxes begin the trek to various hospitals to find everyone else, Andrew gets in idea.
He goes to sleep in the back of the bus and as he falls asleep, he gets as close to praying as someone like Andrew can. He falls asleep and the miraculous happens. He dreams.
In the dream, Neil doesn't yet have the scars Lola gave him but he still manages to look shitty. Immediately upon seeing him, Andrew asks Neil where he is and Neil answers as truthfully as he can but he knows what's going to happen next. He finally tells Andrew the truth, the full truth. And Neil is as happy as he can be because he gets to tell Andrew goodbye this time. A true and real goodbye and it's heartbreaking. Andrew refuses the goodbye and promises Neil that he’ll see him again.
Neil doesn't believe him but he smiles and they kiss for what feels like the last time. Neil wakes up mid-kiss and Andrew is left holding nothing but air.
Andrew wakes up and runs to explain to Wymack where Neil is. At this point they have picked up all of the other Foxes from the ER and this, THIS is where the Foxes find out that Neil and Andrew are soulmates </3 (oof)
Wymack calls the cops, who in turn tip off the FBI and confirms what the FBI and the Hatfords already kinda knew. But this time, Stuart knows going in that Neil is there and is able to get there sooner. They still have to go through with the plan they do in the book but they got there just a little bit sooner and was able to make it so Neil didn't get detoured straight through the FBI.
They have their reunion in the hospital instead and it's a funny sight, all of these Exy players jammed into a single hospital room, trying desperately to see this little fucker. Andrew pushes himself in first and Andrew tears Neil a new one for trying to really say goodbye to him via dreams and just clutches him tightly. Neil apologizes again for that and promises to never do it again.
The FBI still tries to get Neil to join Witness Protection but they don't have much of a leg to stand on because Neil just tells them that his soulmate will find him. They let him change his name and they take his statement and story, but he gets to leave with the Foxes. He gets to go home with them.
After that, things stick with the rest of TKM. Eventually, when Andrew graduates and goes on to play professionally and then Neil follows and they are forced to go long distance, they find solitude in their dreams and they spend their nights and midday naps together in dreamland.
And even when they are finally able to live together, they still dream together.

hi idea i want to write but am too lazy to compile:
there needs to be a klance canon divergent au of lance idk, being manipulated by druid magic or possibly (and i like this idea better) post-undercover mission instructed by shiro and getting caught, trying to escape in his ship (not Blue) and it crashing and a galra leader blowing it up and Lotor (who, since i have watched one episode, is Bad To Me) finds him near-death after being begrudgingly ordered to kill him, but with n o m e m o r y of anything - he thinks his name is Tailor until Lotor comes to the conclusion by galaxy rumors that his name is Lance - and is thus coined a ~*~*~perfect right-hand man~*~*~, a perfect soldier, who has all the muscle memory of an excellent pilot and shooter but no recollection of his home or his family or his life or his friends, so nothing to hold him back from getting the job done.
And Lotor takes him under his wing to not exactly work with the galra (because he’s a prince damn it he has earned his place to take control of what he can and will not be ordered by shitty galra lieutenants) but still do Bad Things. He’s got Acxa and others and essentially overthrow governments for their team, collecting weapons and information and money and the like (but Lotor is sending most of this to Zarkon for control blah blah complications whatever)
Meanwhile the team is like, totally distraught. Nearly fallen apart. They have a funeral for Lance because they have no reason to think he’s alive. Keith, who had a fleeting moment with Lance a few days prior, who had developed feelings for him, blames Shiro for his death. Hunk’s furious with the team in general and demands they go home. Pidge is immensely sad and stops sleeping because she lost another brother figure. Shiro doesn’t blame Keith for being angry and agrees this is his fault. Keith’s being extra-“let’s throw my life on the line every mission who gives a shit anymore” until he and Shiro have a Serious Talk. Allura is reluctant but forces herself to attach to Blue, whom is also relectant (they later find out it’s cus Lance Is Alive and Blue Wants Her Paladin).
Anyway Kolivan, leader of the BOM, who Keith has been occassionally working under for more missions to kill himself in, comes to the castle of lions with news about the galra a few months after Lance’s death. He requests their help with stopping a side group of galra who don’t seem to be directly working with Zarkon but are on the map in a massive way and causing havoc and know team voltron wanna be involved. Allura is automatically in but Hunk is so fucking done he wants to go home. He wants to go to Cuba and see Mrs McClain and apologize and cry about their son. And then Kolivan pulls out a tablet that reveals a hologram of Lance.
Lance, in a bright purple uniform, a scar from his temple to his brow, hoisting a galra-styled rifle and perched on a futuristic building, aiming below, clearly unaware of his photo being taken. Alive.
And Keith snatches the tablet from Kolivan “when was this taken?”
“Three days ago.”
Anyway so Team Voltron and BOM team up immediately to get Lance but BOM’s goal is Lotor and the other galra Keith and Hunk (and Shiro, who is still very guilty) are all “we’re getting Lance and regrouping fuck this.” They end up on a planet untouched by Zarkon but in near chaos cus of Lotor’s team, and the BOM are chasing some of the galra in their ships, losing em, and team voltron are also in ships (not the lions), and Keith’s chasing Lotor but then his ship gets slammed into and it’s Lance, he just knows, so he has Shiro and Kolivan continue after Lotor while he chases Lance. He shoots out a cable that catches onto Lance’s ship and forces it to (roughly) land and he runs out of his ship to get Lance, who’s stumbling out
and Keith calls out to him and Lance shoots him.
Keith is able to dodge it enough so it grazes him but Lance quickly shoots at the cable attached to his ship to get it off and runs back in before escaping.
And in his sheer disbelief of what just happened, he hears on the coms that Lotor also escaped, and Hunk and Pidge’s ship crashed, and this was a fucking mess, and Lance looked right at him and just shot him, what the hell -
Anyway lots of heists and chasing and Keith has Pidge catch wind of Lance at an underground hover cycle race on a planet with lots of crime (Lance had ditched Lotor and his team for some air as things were getting Tense between him and Lotor, who was usually very on top of Lance in a protective, possessive way that was kinda creepy but also not necessarily Bad, unlike now where Lotor is being possessive and gross and Lance was starting to question things because Blue was trying to communicate with him through quintessence as the Castle Ship kinda hovered nearer and nearer and Allura was trying to expand it???? idk i don’t watch this show does this make sense lmao) and Keith heads off there alone and sees him in his natural habitat and it’s almost like???? he was the same person? It’s post race and he rips off his helmet, cocky and smirking at an alien that he just beat. mouthing off to him and shooting finger guns at the crowd and winking and Keith’s heart soothes because shit, it’s Lance.
And Lance is getting ready to leave - he’s collected his winnings and such and he’s pulling out and Keith drives up to him and takes his helmet off and Lance double takes. And is like “um, hello?”
And Keith has, no idea, maybe it’s the cocky smirk he saw, but he revs his engine and says: “I hear you’re pretty good at racing around here.”
Lance laughs, sudden startlement pushed aside by amusement. “I’d say I’m the best pilot they’ve seen.”
“Wanna test that theory?”
And Lance is confused because like, he shot this guy? “Do you have a death wish or something, man?”
“Maybe,” Keith smirks. “I just wanna race.”
Lance blinks once, twice, then scoffs. Turns forward, “Fine. Your funeral.”
“This’ll be fun,” Keith turns forward as well. “Lance and Keith, neck and neck, remember?”
And Lance looks at him, because no, what the fuck? No he doesn’t.
Anyway they race through the city streets. It is indeed: Lance and Keith, Neck and Neck. Lance comes to the conclusion that this Keith is immensely fucking good at racing. But so is Lance, who bypasses him on a few turns, of course until they start getting tailed by the city’s law enforcement. And Keith, who’s fucking crazy, is able to turn his bike around and force them to crash, and then pass Lance in reverse, and take the lead.
And win.
And Lance is pissed but he takes this loss and pulls out into an open field and Keith and him bicker a bit about the race and Keith criticizes him but also “but you got better with the accelerating. You just break too much on turns. You do that when you pilot, too.”
“I’m confused. So you know how I pilot, now?”
“Yeah, I know how you pilot. I know you.”
“No, you don’t,” Lance argues. “You don’t know me.”
“You’re a pilot, you’re good with a gun -”
“Everyone knows that,” Lance cuts in. “Everyone on this planet knows that. I made a name for myself here. That doesn’t mean you know anything about me—”
“I know you’re from Cuba, on Earth.” Keith argues back. “I know you have a large family. I know you love the ocean, and that you miss rain.”
Lance is quiet, then, “I don’t remember rain.”
“Maybe not. But I can help you remember it.”
And at this point they’ve gotten closer and they’re talking and Lance asks where he got the scar on his face “if you know me so well” and Keith tells him the story, breezing over their moment and tells him about Shiro, and fighting the galra, and that Lance is a paladin of -
And in comes Lotor, his ship coming in from above and landing, him and another Galra, and call out to Lance, in a calm, orderly fashion and Keith and Lance both freeze. Lotor tells Lance to meet at the randezvous point and Lance hesitates until Lotor repeats himself, and Lance sighs, looks at Keith and salutes him, and gets on his hoverbike with one last look before driving off to get to the ship he docked and fly off.
And then Lotor and Keith face off. Not fighty but more argumentative. And Lotor expresses just how much control he has over Lance, who’s so flighty lately since Voltron got involved and it’s agitating, and Lotor offers information on inside Galra war plans in exchange for Keith and his team to back off.
“And Lance?”
Lotor eyes him. “He stays.”
“Then no.”
And Keith takes out his sword because he’s honestly had it with Lotor and then he sees Lotor brought more than just one Galra, but another humanoid-alien, who comes out aiming a laser at Keith. And then bam bam Hunk appears from Yellow, who he took down to follow after Keith because fuck you, Lance is his best friend he wants him back, canon bayard loaded and trained on Lotor.
Anyway no harm comes from it and then after a battle happens with the Lions and Lance being forced to eject from the warship with a few others and join the fight and Lance is Not Feeling This (he feels super connected to Blue and Lotor is on his ass about Keith and Lance Does Not Remember fuck off). Keith sees this and has Red get close to Lance, with Shiro and everyone yelling at him, and he propells to Lance’s ship outta the jaw of Red and has Red back outta the line of fire, and somehow blah blah, gets into Lance’s ship. And Lance is like ?????? but then immediately sees that Lotor is aiming a canon at them and they’re gonna blow up and they do, until Red comes in and snatches them up. Keith is unconscious. Lance is confused. He sees Team Voltron on the vid cam and doesn’t know what’s happening. He tries to explain what Lotor’s doing and that Keith got knocked out with the blast and he’s so confused and why is the yellow guy crying, what’s going on, until Allura tries to get Lance to pilot Red, and Lance argues with her a bit while settling Keith in what looks like a seconadry pilot chair that miraculously popped up. And then Lance, like, hears this Lion-thing? Speaking to him??? And he pilots Red and Lotor escapes and they go back to the castle of Lions, get Keith into a pod, and everyone hugs Lance, who still doesn’t???? Understand????
Anyway. Long story short. He re-meets the team. Joins the fight. Pilots Blue again, who he confesses to have been hearing in some sorta abyss for the last month. Has a heart to heart with Shiro. Cries with Hunk. Re-falls for Keith. Big battle. He gets his memory back later. The end.

━━━━━━━✧━━━━━━━
Nero lounges on the couch, feet up on the ottoman, Kyrie curled up next to him. Her head rests on his shoulder, his hand rubbing her thigh as they watch a movie. It has been a few weeks since he had found her again, and he savors moments like this now, when the kids are in bed and the house is quiet and it can be just them together. Most guys his age are probably at a bar or club, but Nero must admit he likes this domesticity. Even though it was barely a full twenty-four hours, her disappearance had affected him, and only reinforced his determination to protect their family.
He turns and presses a kiss to the top of her head. Kyrie smiles up at him and wraps her arms around his, snuggling closer. "You look thoughtful," she murmurs.
"Just thinking of you," he replies.
Kyrie rests her head back on him, and Nero moves his arm around her waist, holding her tightly. Protect their family. The words had taken on a new meaning since his search. Particularly where Dante and Vergil stand; Nero has found his patience with them both is lasting a bit longer, his willingness to overlook their more ridiculous traits a bit easier. He had even started calling Vergil every few days to check on him or just say hello, even though the conversations are stilted and at times, uncomfortable. Dante is easier, but he always had been, their work allowing them a more natural way to bond and his natural goofiness not allowing any room for awkwardness.
He goes back to watching the movie, thinking about whether or not he should get Vergil a cell phone—a piece of technology the man is strangely against but would make all their lives a hell of a lot easier if he would just give in—when his own rings. Kyrie eases back as he fishes it out of his pocket, sighing when he sees Dante's number on the screen. "Yeah?" he chuckles as he swipes to answer.
"Hey kid, you home?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Cool."
The line goes dead and he frowns. Kyrie is sitting up, having paused the movie, and Nero looks over as she asks, "What was that?"
"Who knows."
Their front door bursts open, making them both jump. Dante and Vergil stroll inside, and it isn't so much the intrusion that has Nero gaping as what they are wearing. Vergi is in what is best described as a tuxedo; but it is purple, possibly velvet, with a tight doublet and a puffed collar, the monocle he wears and cane he carries completing the look of some medieval count. He flicks the tails of his coat behind him as he sits in their recliner, grinning.
Dante has taken the opposite track. His suit is bright orange, the shirt underneath unbuttoned to nearly his navel, several gold chains hanging on his chest. He taps his cowboy hat as he walks through the room, and when he does a turn Nero is startled to see he is wearing snakeskin boots that jingle with each step.
"What the actual fuck?" says Nero.
"Nero," Kyrie chastises with a laugh, her hand pressing to his arm as he continues to stare. Dante places a briefcase on the coffee table, and Nero shakes his head to see his fingers have several large, clearly fake gold rings.
"Wait until we tell you what happened," Dante says.
He and Kyrie exchange a glance. "Oh, I can't wait," he sighs.
Dante holds up his palms. "Get this. We were thinking, right, about what those dinguses said who took Kyrie. How mom's family had money. So we went to look, me and Vergil." He gestures between them. "We found the old house, and let me tell you, it looks like hell. But it's still there. I thought for sure there'd be some kind of, I don't know, strip mall or something there by now. But the land is untouched."
Nero looks between them. "Which means what?"
"Which means it still belongs to the Sparda family," Vergil says. "Not the bank. Which means Father and Mother had already paid it off."
"So we went to city hall in the nearest town," continues Dante. "Found the deed and everything. Sure enough, Eva Sparda, right there."
He pulls a piece of paper from his pocket, handing it to Nero. Kyrie peers over his shoulder as he reads, and just as Dante had described, it is a deed for two hundred and fifty acres of land, paid in full. "Wow," he says. "This must be worth a lot by now."
"Yeah! So Vergil and I went to the bank. We figured we could take out a loan, and use the place as collateral."
Nero frowns up at Dante. "You really think that's a good idea? Getting in more debt?"
"We didn't have to," Vergil says.
"What do you mean?"
Dante gestures excitedly as Vergil explains, "Once we gave our names, the banker recognized us. Said we had a safety deposit box there, that could only be opened when we came together."
"It's been there since we were born!" Dante exclaims. "It was opened when we were only a month old."
"So what was in it?" Nero asks, his own excitement starting to spark.
"Tons of stuff," Dante says. "Papers from the house, our birth certificates. Who knew I even had one?"
Nero chuckles. "You're official."
Dante nods. "I existed this whole time and never even knew."
"You've left out the best part," Vergil scolds him. "The deposit box also had the fortune those dinguses were after."
Both Nero and Kyrie give a gasp at the same time. "What do you mean, fortune?" Nero asks tightly.
"Stocks. Bonds. Stakes in all sorts of businesses." Dante grins and puts his hands on his hips. "Worth at least a million dollars."
The blood drains from Nero's face as he takes it all in. Their family, millionaires? This could be a game changer. They could move, get a bigger house, get out of the city like he's been dying to for years. They could afford to formally adopt. Samuel will be going to college in a few years—hell, Kyrie has been talking about taking classes too, and it can happen. A home, school, their futures secure.
His eyes slide to the briefcase on the table. "So what do we do?"
"Well," Dante says, rubbing the back of his neck. "It wasn't as easy as we thought. We called Morrison, and he hooked us up with his lawyer guy. We cashed in the money and paid off the debt we owed."
"You owed," Vergil interjects.
"Well devil hunting isn't easy. And I didn't exactly have a steady stream of income spending three months in hell, you know," Dante argues.
Nero shakes his head. "Wait. So there's nothing left?"
"Well I wouldn't say that," answers Dante. "I paid off the building, so I own it outright now. Then I paid the utilities, and the insurance I owed, and what I owed Lady, and what I had borrowed from Morrison, and paid all the back taxes."
"And I paid off my apartment, and the fines for um… some of my run-ins with the locals," Vergil adds.
"We also used some for these cool business outfits," Dante says. "What do you think?"
Nero blinks, but Kyrie answers, "You both look wonderful."
"We took your advice too, Nero," Vergil says quietly.
He frowns at his father. "My advice? What advice?"
"We hired a private investigator. Paid up front," replies Vergil. "We want to find out what happened to Sparda, once and for all. He is going to find us all the information he can, and then we're going to figure out where he is, and if he is alive."
"You'll come too, right?" Dante asks.
Nero hesitates for a moment before huffing out a laugh. "Sorry, I'm still processing all this." He glances at Kyrie, who is smiling broadly at him.
"It's amazing," she says sincerely.
"Yeah. Find Sparda, huh?" Nero chuckles and rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah, I'd be down for that. Sparda Family road trip, part two."
Dante cheers as Vergil chuckles, and Nero holds the deed out to return it. But Dante waves him off. "No, you keep it."
"What?"
"Vergil and I talked about it. You deserve something too, and neither one of us can take care of the place. You can sell it, or rebuild, or do whatever you want." Dante shrugs. "The property belongs to you now."
Nero looks between them in shock as Kyrie grips his arm. "Really? You're giving this to me?"
"Of course," Vergil says. "You're Eva's grandson. You should inherit her house."
"I don't know what to say." The money is gone, just like that; but that's okay, isn't it? In the end, they all got what they needed, and Nero smiles. "I'm happy for you guys," he says slowly. "I really am. And this… thank you." He looks over the deed one more time, his chest tightening a bit.
Kyrie kisses his cheek, pulling him out of his thoughts. "So what's with the briefcase?" he asks.
Dante grins and sits on the floor, laying it down to fiddle with the clasp. "Last of the money in here."
"Oh yeah?" Nero slides forward, wondering how much. Maybe a few thousand?
Instead, there are four Big Macs and a twenty-piece McNugget inside. "Celebratory dinner on us," Dante says happily.
He hands Vergil a sandwich before tossing one to Nero, which he looks down at in a mixture of amusement and confusion. "You guys really know how to live well," he laughs.
Dante pretends to "clink" his Big Mac with Kyrie's, and they dig into the meal when Nico appears at the door. "You guys still on your date?" she calls obnoxiously before gawking at them. "Hey! You got McDonald's and didn't tell me?" She plops down next to Dante, leaning over him to scoop up some nuggets. "Halloween was a week ago, you know," Nico jokes, eyeing his outfit.
"Hey, I make this look good," he says.
Nero laughs, listening to them argue and then team up together when Vergil jumps in. Kyrie leans against him and he puts his arm around her, giving her cheek a kiss. His eyes fall on the deed to the Sparda land as he smiles to himself. Protect their family. Yeah, absolutely.

A Happier Afternoon
Summary: Felix has a companion over for tea.
A brief exploration of our canon gremlin.
Read on Ao3
Felix sank into the plush armchair as he leaned his entire weight into it, a porcelain cup of tea in one hand and matching gold-rimmed saucer in the other. Before him, a teapot and accompanying cake stand stood before him on the blue-covered table.
The pastry assortment consisted of petit fours, eclairs, macarons and French-style sandwiches, instead of the usual scones, cakes and English sandwiches he was used to. They were currently in Paris, after all, and although the hands of the grandfather clock read fifteen to five thanks to French schooling hours, it didn’t mean he had to go without his afternoon tea. Now that he had returned to the comfort of his and his mother’s residence, he could also drop the French and converse easier in English.
Felix sipped the steaming hot tea and made a face.
“No milk or sugar? That’s unusual.” His teatime company remarked with amusement. “You never take your tea without them.”
The tea scalded his tongue and he frowned at the bitterness. “I wanted to take my tea your way just this once, to see why you like it. Can’t say I see the appeal.”
The man seated in the armchair across him laughed. “That’s because you didn’t take your time, my boy. Take a breath of the tea before you sip it, make sure you actually sip it, not just take a mouthful – and roll it around your mouth. Bathe your tongue in it and breathe. The scent is half the experience.”
Felix nodded. He carefully inhaled the scent of black tea – which smelled wonderfully of roses, as was its namesake, took another sip and did as he was instructed to, quietly savouring the dark liquid.
He swallowed after a few moments. “There’s hints of…something sweet. Vanilla?” Felix wondered. “And a rose aftertaste.”
The man smiled. “Bain de Rose. Nothing beats a good Earl Grey, though.”
“Of course.” Felix agreed, taking a third sip. “However…in Rome, drink as the Romans drink.”
Felix set his cup back on the table, saucer beneath it, and leaned forward to pluck a brown-coloured macaron, all of the biscuits chocolate except for two mint ones. “And pick your favourites of their local cuisine.” The man continued, his brown eyes crinkling in mirth as he chuckled.
“Mother doesn’t fancy macarons that much anyway.” Felix defended as his companion exclaimed in mock outrage.
“Just because we’re away from our cooks doesn’t mean you can eat anything you want!”
“Really? I thought that was the opposite.” Felix teased, grabbing another macaron and popping it into his mouth.
“I see your mother is spoiling you as usual.”
“No, not really.” Felix smirked. “But she’s been so busy lately, there’s simply no time for her to think about trivial matters. I just decided to step in regarding the menu.” He shrugged helplessly, holding his palms up.
“Rascal.”
A comfortable few seconds of silence passed. Felix drank his tea before reaching for the sugar bowl, metal clinking as he dropped two cubes in with tongs and stirred using the accompanying teaspoon. “What?” He replied to the man’s reproachful look. “I can’t taste anything after eating macarons. The French are impeccable with their sweets.”
“You’re lucky your mother isn’t back yet.”
A second cup, saucer and spoon sat next to the teapot, empty and untouched.
“Speaking of, how is she?”
“She’s fine.” Felix quickly said, drinking his tea. Now it actually tasted sweet, which was to say, good. “She’s got another project, the rings, so of course she’s happier. It takes her mind off…you know.” A lump formed in his throat, which Felix hurriedly swallowed with another gulp of tea.
Kind brown eyes softened as he curled his fingers together on the table, leaning in. “That’s good to hear. I think the change in scenery is really doing her good. She has the French film scene to explore.”
“Exactly what I thought.” Felix nodded.
“What has she discovered?” He asked.
“Mostly shooting locations.” Felix answered. “French architecture’s distinct from London, and she likes to take day trips into other provinces.” He picked up his phone lying on the table and swiped it, opening an image of a quaint cottage in the afternoon sunlight decorated with bright flowerbushes. “From Roussillon. It looks exactly like the ones you find in the English countryside,” He scoffed, “so I don’t know what she was raving about.”
“Don’t let her catch you saying that.” The man smiled.
“It’s about the atmosphere, love!” Felix mimicked in a high-pitched voice. “The French sun is simply better, no dreary English clouds and rain! Why can’t she just wait for summer? It’s not like England doesn’t have blue skies.”
His companion chuckled. “You know your mother is biased toward her home country.”
“Too biased. Meanwhile,” Felix went on, “I think I’ve found a future costume designer.”
“Really?” The man’s eyes twinkled. “Is that where you’ve gotten your ensemble from?”
Unlike the mourning grey and black he’d worn all of the past year, he was now wearing grey – and predominantly white. A white top hat was perched on his head, a pair of grey vulpine ears protruding from it. He stood and proudly spread out his arms, rotating his wrists theatrically to display his grey-gloved hands and the crisp white fabric of his pants and jacket sleeves. Beneath the jacket was a bright orange vest, gold chain hanging from the pocket, and a grey undershirt. A grey domino mask covered his eyes.
“Worthy of Savile Row, isn’t it?” The boy preened.
“A fox magician?” The man murmured, impressed, eyes tracing the tailored garments. “A bit heavy on the symbolism, don’t you think?”
“I think the symbolism’s perfect. Magic tricks are lies the audience willingly believes, after all.” Felix said. “Besides, what else is best suited to pull rabbits from their hiding places?”
“Was this made by your new costumer talent?”
Felix’s lips curled into a smirk. “It wasn’t, but I would love to see her take on it. She is-”
Outside, the door pushed open. “Felix, I’m home!” came a feminine voice, together with the echoing click-clack of heels.
His green eyes widened. Abruptly, Felix pushed his armchair back with an ugly screech. The man darted out of his own seat to stride closer, moving with his arms outstretched.
Felix flung his arms around him.
“Father.”
At his touch, his father, dark-haired, brown-eyed, clad in his signature white shirt and blue vest, vanished into nothing.
The rustling of paper and plastic sounded from outside. She was obviously setting her purchases down on the counter. For a few moments, Felix stared into the empty space.
“Trixx, hide.” His transformation immediately melted off, leaving him again in grey and black. The fox kwami sprung from the necklace hidden beneath his shirt and zipped into his pocket. The efficacy of the deactivation phrase was one of the reasons he liked this miraculous.
Amelie appeared in the doorway, and he turned to meet her. “Welcome back, Mother.”
There was a healthy flush to her skin and her golden hair slightly mussed from exertion. “I see you’ve started without me.” She said lightly. The smile on her face was playful, but genuine joy and relief exuded from it. For a year, Felix had refused to do anything alone if his mother could be with him. He would wait at school until she came to pick him up, distracted by a book, so that they could go home and take tea together.
She stepped forward to rest her hands on his shoulders, caressing his blond hair. “A year…it’s been a year since he passed.” Amelie murmured, eyes shining. “I suppose we’ve both moving on, aren’t we?”
His chest felt tight.
“Of course, Mother.”
