Hiiiii so I'm the writer of The Final Piece and I am simply here to rant and rave about Sleep Awake because it's??? occupying so much of my mind it's not even funny??? I literally binged the whole thing in like 2 or 3 days and the chokehold your writing has me in is insanity. This is gonna be long I seriously hope that's okay but there's SO MUCH I wanna say! I have talked so much about all of Sleep Awake to my roommate and sister and friends that they all have practically read it second hand through me just talking about it and how much I love it. You are such a talented writer, and I'm sure you already know that, but I feel the need to tell you anyway.

Moving on!

I absolutely adore the MC you've created, their development has been SO satisfying to read, their journey into learning that it's okay to live for yourself instead of for other people just makes me sob and punch the air. It's such a relatable struggle and I love that you incorporated it into their character, it gives them a level of depth where you physically can't NOT root for them after everything they've been through.

I'm also a HUGE fan of platonic relationships (I'm asexual I can't help it I love reading about friends sm) and when I got into your fic I felt like the skies parted when the first chapter note mentioned you were also gonna focus on the platonic relationships because I WANNA BE FRIENDS WITH THEM TOO NOT JUST DATE THEM. The locker trio already had my heart but as the fic went on I slowly started to really like the MC and Maki's friendship as it developed and now other than Kiibo's and Shuichi's friendship with them she is probably my fav. I'll save all that for another time though.

Also also also the whole third trial??? Literally couldn't have asked for anything better. Seriously that was the best change to canon, from start to finish I loved every second reading it.

Every character you write feels so canon I feel like I can hear their voices in my head, it's wonderful. And don't even get me STARTED on Kokichi's characterization and his relationship with the MC. It's become so ingrained in my head that I forget that he doesn't have them in canon lmao. The almost cat and mouse game between them has me gripping the sides of my head. I went back to reread the game of Karma chapter like 15 times because it's one of my favorite scenes of theirs. They have such fun back and forth banter, and even while they are arguing I'm just sitting there reading and saying 'THEY'RE IN LOVE YOUR HONOR'.

Kokichi's struggle to trust the MC until recent chapters is being so perfectly well done, because it's EXACTLY how he would act too. Also his complete denial of having feelings for them in favor of his mission to stop the killing game??? Ugh. I could go on forever about how much I love this fic and how it's completely changed the trajectory of my life lmao, but I think I've rambled long enough. I'm sorry if this was just a lot of word vomit to read, but I have been wanting to reach out and have been so shy about it because all of this is kinda new to me. I legit have never even used Tumblr until recently, so I'm still trying to figure it all out.

Anyway! I'm always looking forward to updates from you, but please take care of yourself in the meantime <3 Thank you for writing something so wonderful, it's really something special

first of all HI HELLO!!! i had no idea you had read sleep awake what!!! im very sorry if you've commented before because i may have forgotten because it does get a lot of comments but. honestly i just wanted to leave a nice review of ur work and then i found out you've read sleep awake!!!! insane. i cannot believe u have TALKED ABT SLEEP AWAKE in real life hello???? malfunctions. thank u so very much that is literally the highest of compliments.

im. very emotional and happy u like my mc. they r my baby considering they r basically Me but also i feel like the stuff they struggle with is general enough to be relatable to a lot of people. and i am very glad their journey resonated with you at least a little.

the platonic relationships!!! grabs u by the shoulders and shakes u like a rattle toy. OH MY GOD. yeah. yeah u get it. i jsut simply think romantic relationships r not inherently more important than friendships, and with sleep awake specifically i do not think that mc could heal and go on the journey they need to go on if they were only close with kokichi. like for sure he's a big help and big part of it, but an mc without kiibo, kaede, kirumi, shuichi, tenko, kaito and maki would literally not exist as they are now. TO BE A COMPLETE PERSON u must learn from the people around u that u love and maybe even the ones u hate. i think that is so special and so important, not just in fiction but in larger life. like. people who focus solely on romantic relationships in long fics u bamboozle me. it keys into this idea of 'oh if ur broken u just need one specific special person to fix u' and like. no. maybe u learn to put urself back together with constant help from the people around u, from ur family and ur friends and ur role models. not just the person u wanna kiss. that is just me tho.

im rly happy u mentioned mc and maki actually!!! i find that most people rly like mc's friendships with kiibo and shuichi and kirumi, which is understandable because mc doesn't get a ton of time with maki but. i really like what i've done with the two of them?? idk that feels big headed to say but writing their relationship develop has been super fun and it's one of those things i didn't rly plan? it just sorta happened and now mc has maybe too many friends but yk what. we move. maybe the real sleep awake was the friends we made along the way.

hhhghgbfhh kokichi and mc's relationship makes me so mentally ill. in a good way. and im really really happy ur invested in it. like my god i have put so much time n thought into these babies and i feel like one aspect of writing their relationship i dont talk abt as much is how patient u have to be. i feel like u would get this too, writing a slowburn urself — u have all these ideas u want to incorporate and ideas of how they get together, their first kiss, their first whatevers but. u gotta lay the groundwork first. and with characters like kokichi and nagito it's gonna be like 90% groundwork because they have walls and complexities a mile high. but im super happy with how it's developing.

He loves being held by you, sometimes resting his head on your chest as you pet his hair

It relieves so much stress for him, and he’s a pretty stressed out guy

He doesn’t have a favourite position, as long as he close to you

But if he had to choose, he loves spooning

Either way, he loves feeling protected and protecting you

Kaede Akamatsu

She loves cuddles!

She’s not shy about it at all, pulling you close to her when you two are sitting together

She lets you rest your head on her thighs as she runs her fingers through your hair

Though if you want to bring her to your chest, she wouldn’t complain

She’ll always have a big smile on her face as she nuzzles your skin

Her favourite position is having you rest your head on her chest

She loves playing with your hair and comforting you, so that’s the best position to do so!

He loves the feeling of protecting you, so he’ll curl around you, regardless on how tall you are

Though don’t expect to sleep if it’s not bedtime, he can talk for hours

Though, he would love to have your head on his chest as well while he rubs your back

Even if you fall asleep on him, he wouldn’t even notice and continue talking

But when he does, he makes sure you’re extra comfortable as he presses a kiss to your forehead

Maki Harukawa

Almost never cuddles you, but will when you ask

She prefers to be the big spoon, or having you in her arms, but won’t object if you want to hold her

Kind of stiff and awkward, not really knowing where to put her hands

The more time that goes on, she relaxes a bit more, even starting to get a bit sleepy

She doesn’t have a favourite position, as she’s neutral for all of them

But spooning does get her fairly sleepy and snuggly

Kokichi Oma

Little shit can never sit still enough to actually cuddle

He’s always on the move, so you’d either have to wait until its bedtime, or catch him

Once you do, he’s very squirmy and he loves to nuzzle into your chest

He hates to admit it, but he loves being the little spoon. He feels so small and protected and he adores it

If you have boobs, beware, he’ll be nuzzling them the entire time

But if not, he’ll still be nuzzling them, but not suffocating as much

He falls asleep pretty easily if it’s quiet (he’s never quiet) and actually calms down

Before he’s up again and playfully wrestling you

Himiko Yumeno

As soon as you wrap your arms around her, she’s out like a light

She can never stay awake long enough to actually cuddle you, so you’d probably have to snuggle her

But the rare moments she is, she loves laying on top of you, using your chest as her pillow

Says something about recharging her mana, but she’s just sleepy and she loves you

You wouldn’t have to worry about waking her up if you move, she’s a heavy sleeper

PROTECTIVE.

She will absolutely be your big spoon, or having you rest on her chest

She would be kind of stiff, but she’s mostly on alert in case someone decided to jump the both of you

You’d have to reassure her that you’ll both be fine and to relax

It’s the one time of day when he’s able to look over at how beautiful your body is

He prefers to have his arm wrapped around you, but he also likes to have you rest on his chest as well

He’s a pretty tall guy, so his long limbs will tangle with yours throughout the night

He doesn’t fall asleep easily, so he would talk about history, or about traditions he learned more about that day

Very snuggly! Though its hard to get her away from her worship to cuddle

But once she’s in bed with you, her face will be snuggled into your chest with her arms around your waist

She doesn’t get sleepy easily, so she would have a nice chat, even dropping the conversation on Atua and just asking how your day was

She gets pretty calm and cuddling allows her to empty her head

Sometimes she’ll even meditate while snuggling, which she’s pretty good at

Not very comfortable, but he tries!

Sort of dislikes cuddling, but not because she hates touching, she just hates the feeling of not being productive

So the best time to cuddle would be when she’s ready for bed!

She would love any position, so she had no preferences

If you want her to lay on your chest, she will

If you want to lay on hers, got it! She’ll be running her fingers through your hair

You’d have to stop her from giving you a proper massage though, in which she’ll actually have to relax

He’s so gentle and caring with you, making sure you’re absolutely comfortable

He placed a kiss on your head and cuddled up to you, making you do the same

You were worried about him, but it was late, and you knew you'd never get an actual answer regardless

You both fell asleep in eachothers arms sooner or later

The 6'6 male was always very gentle with you

He was gentle with anything and everything, really

So when you woke to him crying and curled up on the floor you took action

When you slipped off the bed and crouched in front of him, he quickly embraced you, apologizing between sobs

✧˖*°࿐ headcanons of shuichi and kokichi reacting to you wearing a maid outfit/costume (yes. i write hc/imagines of danganronpa characters now)

shuichi saihara

ɞ shuichi was busily observing his new research lab, looking thoroughly through the files that were in the antique looking bookshelf, in hopes of finding some sort of clue about the ‘real world’

ɞ “shuichi~”

ɞ hearing your melodic voice, he immediately tore his gaze from the file

ɞ “tsumugi let me borrow this costume from her closet! what do you think? i’ve always wanted to try one and....”

ɞ as you continued to blabber on about your love for maid outfits, shuichi took his time to properly look at you

ɞ you were wearing a typical black and white maid outfit, with a cute black bow tied around the collar of the uniform. on your head laid a lolita maid hair band which matched your hair colour

ɞ “hello? earth to shuichi?” you waved your hands in front of his face

ɞ “o-oh sorry,” he shyly apologised

ɞ “you look really nice...” he sheepishly answered with a small blush on his cheeks

ɞ “so....what can i do for you?....master shuichi?”

ɞ “m-master!?”

kokichi ouma

ɞ kokichi was roaming through the building searching for you as he was very bored. extreextremely bored. he had just finished harassing kiibo and that, to him, wasn’t very entertaining

ɞ “y/n~~ where are you?” he called out loudly

ɞ with no answer, the male huffed his cheeks and continued wandering

ɞ he walked pass tsumugi’s research lab,

ɞ and that was when he heard your voice

ɞ he immediately did a 180 and walked towards tsumugi’s lab, entering without any notice

ɞ “y/n you look so cute~ even my magic can’t repel this cuteness,” the familiar voice, himiko gushed

ɞ “tsumugi why did you choose a maid outfit out of all things? couldn’t you dress me up as a cute volleyball player or something,” you whined

ɞ “a maid? how fitting for a supreme leader like me,”

ɞ as if elsa had shot her ice powers at you, you felt yourself freeze at the sound of his voice

ɞ “h-hey who told you to come in?” himiko scoffed

ɞ “me,”

ɞ “himiko, let me choose a costume for you,” tsumugi whispered to himiko, getting the hint that kokichi wanted to be alone with you

ɞ himiko agreed excitedly, skipping towards elsewhere with tsumugi

ɞ “god this is fucking embarassing,” you groaned shoving your face into your hands

ɞ “high knee socks and cute animal ears? oh yes! how did tsumugi know my type?” kokichi wondered out loud

ɞ you took a peek between your fingers, only to see kokichi seconds away from peeking under your skirt

ɞ “you pervert!” you gave him a kick, knocking him backwards

ɞ being the dramatic person he was, kokichi laid on the ground, eyes closed with a discomforted face

ɞ “ouch! i think you broke my back,” whimpered the male

ɞ you rolled your eyes and crouched down beside his body

ɞ “okay so i’ll be going now ,”

ɞ you felt kokichi’s hand wrap around your wrist, halting you to move

ɞ “but you’re my maid. aren’t you supposed to tend to my needs?” he spoke with a devious look in his eyes

ɞ “well im quitting.”

ɞ “h-hey don’t leave me on the ground!”

This guy doesn't really mind, as long as you aren't trying to murder someone then that's alright

He honestly loves your jokes, he laughs at everyone of them

But when it gets serious he will tell you to tone it down for a bit, since the atmosphere is really heavy at the moment, of course you tone it down, but you still crack a few small jokes here and there making him sweat drop

"S-S/O can you uh, please tone your jokes a bit down?" He whispered, nearly dying because of Byakuya death staring at the two of you "hah! Who cares Naeggi? That richard bitch got nothing on us two anyway!" You yelled out loud, you know your ass was gonna get beat by Byakuya and Toko "What the, eff did you say?" Byakuya stands up from his seat, and started to walk to you "Shit run-" you grabbed Makoto and ran to save you two's lives "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE YELLED THAT S/O!" Makoto screamed out running up to your pace "Kyehahahha well sorry lucky babe but too late now!" You laughed, you were getting fucking scared since Genocide jack must've sensed that you cursed up a storm in the library where Byakuya lives in

Genocide jack found you two "WHAAAAAAT? YOU DAMN S/O MAKING MASTER ANGRRRY"

You two got beat up and Aoi and Yasuhiro has to heal you two up, was that worth it? It's a yes to you

Aoi and Yasuhiro laughed a bit at you for fucking with Byakuya, but they are safe since the door was closed and Genocide Jack tried to get in for like 6 minutes before giving up, that traumatized all of y'all, you all tried not to repeat what you did

He may be able to learn more because of your humor or jokes im so sorry. he doesn't sometimes laugh but he's intrigued of your humor

He doesn't tell you anything unless someone tells him that you need to tone the jokes down or they'll tape your mouth-

You laugh around the trial, it was the trial and Kirumi was voted to be the culprit

"Kehahhah! Woooow Kirumom was the culprit all along! So how's the execution gonna end?? Is she gonna clean until she's tired?? That must hurt y'know!" You spoke really fast, which everyone was annoyed and looked at Keebo, he sighed "S/O can you tone it down for a bit? You are ruining the mood here S/O.." Keebo bluntly spoke, your heart shattering into pieces but you metaphoracally picked it up "Of course! Y'all can ask me later to make you laugh! It's my dream to make people laugh afterall" you giggle

"Affirmative S/O.." Keebo spoke once again, everyone agreeing except for Kirumi, screaming about not gonna die

That was traumatizing but atleast you weren't there to witness all of the disgusting stuff that happened.

Shuichi Saihara

Honestly he thought you were being an idiot for cracking jokes all the time when you all are in a killing game for gods sake.

But when he interacts with you more he now understands that Humor is your way of coping in this life of yours, he felt guilty for not realizing that

After Kaede's Execution, everyone was traumatized. Seeing Kaede's death, and Rantaro as well. You on the other hand was cracking jokes to make yourself laugh and it seems to be working, but not everyone. The others were annoyed since, you all saw them get killed and you crack jokes??? It's not a good time and you know that. The others were disturbed at your cheerful state. Shuichi was crying, he saw his bestfriend get killed and you were just there trying to make everyone laugh. That set him off

"Y-Your so stupid S/O! Don't y-you see that Kaede died?? Try to i-inject that into your brain!" He snapped, this was a whole new level of Shuichi. That surprised you and the others as well "Hahahahehe.. Wow Shuichi, you should've told me first than snapping at me riiiiiiight Shuichi..?" You laughed at this current situation, this is already hopeless to you, why make it worse?

After everyone left including Shuichi, you were just there looking at all their dorm rooms "th.. this is despairful wouldn't you say? That's too bad for me." You walked to your dorm room and slept, not bothering to change your clothes

He grabbed your hand, tugging you lightly "Hey S/O.. sorry for snapping at you last night, i wasn't thinking and, well-" he tried to apologise to you but got cut off by you laughing with a bright smile across your face "Who says you apologise to lil ol' me? I should be the one to apologise y'know Shuhara?" Your face softened, likely showing that your really sorry for what you've done "A-ah S/O.. your too nice" he sweatdropped "yyyeeeeah sadly.."

after the eating you approached to Shuichi "Heeey detective Shuhara, bein quiet because you investigatin stuff?" You said before leaving him alone

You took his hat off and put it on your head "you should take this off y'know? You look more cool without it, though you can still wear it. I don't really mind."

After waking up to the morning announcement you finally fixed yourself before bursting out of the room laughing like this situation never existed in the first place, you saw the cafeteria being quiet, the atmosphere being heavy. You tried to lighten the mood up "Good mooooorning everyone! How is the food? Must be delicious since the ultimate Mom cooked them." You laughed "Good morning S/O! shuichi was always a bit fidgety. he often had the habit of twirling his pen in his hand. he finally stopped spacing off (hehe) when the ultimate astronaut himself, joined the zoom meeting. “hey, shuichi! sorry for being a bit late, the crew needed a bit of help with the storing the plants and it took a bit longer than expected.”

“ah, that’s fine, kaito. i’m just glad you remembered since you’re pretty busy now.” shuichi laughed a bit to himself. “of course! how could i forget a talk with my sidekick?!” kaito grinned. “right.. has everything been good?” the detective queried. “hm? oh, yeah, it’s great! the best thing about it is definitely the sun rising every day. how’s everything back there though?”

“oh! maki has been helping around hope’s peak’s elementary department. she’s been spending time with these kids called 'the warriors of hope'.” shuichi smiled and remembered the fond memory of maki tutoring masaru and jataro in math. "hey! maki's finally warming up!" ...is that supposed to be misogynistic? i don't really think so.

"ah,,, its getting pretty late and Ms. Naganohara wants us up pretty early." shuichi remembered the energetic teacher. "right! see 'ya, shuichi!" "ah, kaito, i forgot but, i-"

hm. kaito is one of those friends who'll lend a shoulder to anyone but at the same time, he really doesnt listen at all. well, things have been lonely, even with his classmates. it just... feels like the sun suddenly disappeared from the world. "hey, shuichi, we need some help here." his uncle called out "coming!". shuichi really couldn't think about this weird romance stuff right now.

another day of pure rest after the picnic early in the morning. at this point the bell has rung, concluding classes. the batch started headed for their dorms while the usual duo of kokichi and miu catched up after skipping. it was just another dull day.

shuichi turned the knob on his door and really did NOT expect seeing his friend just snooping through his stuff.

"the all too well knit scarf? shuichi, they just bought a scarf and put it on the website!" kaito held up the crimson scarf. "it's soft, okay? anyays, why are you here? shouldn't you be in space?" shuichi grabbed the scarf and threw it back in his closet. "oh, i didn't say? we finished faster than expected and we got back to earth early!" the purplette grinned.

"ah, thats great. i'm glad you're back, kaito." he smiled. "oh! didn't you want to say something the last time we called?"

"oh, that... it's not important right now. come on, i know maki'll be happy you're back."

romance is an odd thing to shuichi. for now, he doesnt need to think about it, he's just glad kaito's back.

It was currently 1am on a school night, and you were still wide awake, staring endlessly into a textbook.

Finals were creeping up and you had been secretly procrastinating studying. Why study when Himiko was doing a magic show, or when Kaede was practicing piano?

You ultimately regretted it as the clock flicked 1:38. Sighing you closed the book and got ready for bed, accidentally dropping the book when you did.

You groaned and grabbed it, putting it out of the way and putting on your pajamas. You laid in bed. Tossing and turning. That was the bad part of your brain. It never let you sleep when you wanted.

Eventually you heard a knock on your door. You groaned and went to open it to find K1-B0, the ultimate robot standing there. He looked at you with concern.

"A-Are you alright? I heard a loud thud and wanted to check on you!"

"Im fine Kiibo. I just dropped a book." You responded leaning on the doorframe.

"You shouldnt be up at this hour! Humans need 8-10 hours of sleep! I got so scared you got hurt when I heard that thud!"

"I know but end of year exams are up and Im trying to study because Im busy all day-"

"Your one of the smartest people I know! Your one of the classes top students and you always blow me away with how amazing you are!"

"Thank you Kiibo. You're to sweet." You giggled and hugged him as best as you could.

"Now go to bed and me and you can study tomorrow when your rested and in a better head space."

The ones that are confused are the people around you guys- When you guys hang out together and strated chatting, there had to be some students staring at you guys with a confused look, almost like he's implying : "how do you guys friggin communicate"

Of course, Nagito would also try to correct your accent for future circumstances, you better get ready though, if Nagito's gonna teach you, he's gonna be one serious teacher. He wants you to speak like one of those remnants of hope!

He would be quite warming sometimes, when you have problems communicating with people, he would always translate it to the person, so as ordering Milkshakes

It's pretty funny though, hearing two person chatting with thick russian accent, but Nagito wouldn't mind a bit, sometimes you are the one holding your laughter-

Shuichi will be confused AND holding his laughter at the same time. This shy little detective just wants to know what you're talking about and will go serious , but after hearing those thick accent of yours, he couldn't help but laugh at it as well

Everytime you speaks he would have to lean his ears close to you and you might have to Whisper in his ears, saying it multiple times for him to understand.

For future circumstances and himself for understanding it well, he had to correct your accent but he wouldn't rush.

As long as you can speak it out a bit clearly, Shuichi would stop correcting and continue y'all's lives. He doesn't want to force you.

The most funniest parts is when you guys are bout to order something, and you just splat out your thick accent sentences, while Shuichi and the waiter just stood there cluelessly, not having an idea on what you're saying-

I think korekiyo could understanding it a little bit, he hasn't did Deep research about human languages , but due to his intelligence (? He'll understand just a teeny bit

For you, he'll do some research, about Russian language and how similar the words are between with English.

It's hard to make korekiyo laugh out of laughty sometimes but this isn't rare when you speak to him.

He just couldn't help but wheeze and hold his tummy while laughing. He tries to stop, but when you say our more by asking him is he okay, he'll eventually continues laughing.

Though it could be funny sometimes but it really is troubling! Korekiyo had to learn it quick! He needs to help others translate and to understand what you said as well!!

Izuru understands everything , he is the ultimate hope after all! Though others kept complaining to him on how hard they had to understand what you say, so... He'll have to try to correct you.

At first izuru wouldnt mind you talking like that, it's kinda interesting, also a little funny. And this is also how you usually speaks , so why change it? It'll only make you suffer speaking with normal accent, he doesn't want that

But as more and more complaints came up to him, he just had to correct you abit... And so the Kamakura lesson begins!

As long as you learn with him, you would immediately change a bit, because it's the ultimate hope class- would be EASY to understand

But Kamakura decides to make it slow, he doesn't want to hurt your braincells, since you only have 2 left, and their having a fight still.

hi anon! sorry for taking so log to reply to this, i knew i’d have a lot to say and i didn’t have the spoons to go off until now. FLKDJSFLkj here we go!

hehe! okay. so just as a preface, i’m like. REALLY into rantaro pairings. like. the only rantaro pairings i don’t like all that much are am*cha, rantaro/himiko, amaguuji (sorry lgbt community), and ranmugi. the rest i’m either open to or obsessed with. so like. bear that in mind when you read this.

i’m going to rank rantaro relationships by how much i love them so i can get an order to this (and also so i can do amamota last because i have a lot to say).

rantaro + korekiyo (2.5/10) oh gosh. kiyo, i’m so sorry a dumb bitch like me would do you like this. listen, amaguuji is a good pairing, just, objectively. i used to be super into it. but then the fandom crabwalked all over me with their amaguuji hurt/comfort fics and i got so Tired of seeing rantaro get treated like a security blacket... eugh. amaguuji is a good ship. i have written amaguuji, and would write it again, without prompting. i’m just... so tired.

they’d get along! obviously they would get along, we’ve seen their canon interactions, we’ve all slurped up as much rantaro tdp content as we were able to get, we know the tea. rantaro is passive and not easily creeped out, so he’d be able to look past all the unsettling things about kiyo, and similarly, kiyo is understanding and not pushy, so rantaro would be able to vibe around him without being asked about his secrets, or his travels, or anything that he doesn’t want anybody else to know. i like the aesthetic of them sitting around and drinking tea together, just, vibing like bros. kiyo infodumps to rantaro. rantaro fucking loves it. they’re best friends.

also like. they travel together. or whatever.

rantaro + kiibo (4/10) to be clear, i’m like, they’re cute, it’s just. i don’t have very strong opinions on kiibo as a whole FLKDJSFKLJDSFKDF kiibo is one of those characters who i kind of close my eyes on because to me he is just, he is very boring! he is very boring and i am so sorry to the kiibo stans who follow me, i have so much respect for you, i just have never had a kiibo thought in my life. they’re fun to write, though, i’ll tell you that.

kiibo is one of those characters who i think engages with you based on how you engage with him. i don’t mean that he’s a code switcher, (at least not a notorious one), but he’s emotional, and he’ll give back as much as you put in. if you treat him poorly, he’ll respond with anger and indignity. if you treat him with kindness and respect, he’ll respond similarly. which is why i think he and rantaro would really get along! rantaro is relaxed and kind and non-judgmental, and kiibo is the kind of person who needs chill vibes, so i think they’d have a lot of fun hanging out. rantaro is also the type of guy to get his friends a lot of gifts, and i think kiibo would be overwhelmed at like, the thoughtfulness that goes into that, and would grow really fond of rantaro accordingly. they’re sweet! amiibo rights, even if the first time i saw it my gut reaction was “wait, huh?”

rantaro + ryoma (5/10) this is another one of those ones where the rating was cucked because i don’t see a lot of them interacting and there’s not enough fandom content for me to really be in love with it. five is like, a solid neutral rating. i could swing either way. probably more for the positive though; i fucking love ryoma.

another one of those duos where they kind of just, vibe. honestly i don’t know if they’d get too close, if only because rantaro is gone so often he doesn’t really have the time to work on tearing down ryoma’s walls, and ryoma similarly is so tired he’s like, he doesn’t have the energy to try and figure out what the fuck is up with rantaro. unlike with amamota, rantaro and ryoma both have things that trouble them from their past, but the difference is that like, ryoma is so open about it? he’s not closed off. he won’t let people get close, but sure, he’ll tell them exactly why they shouldn’t. rantaro is the complete opposite, all sunny smiles and subject changes. this isn’t to say that they wouldn’t get along! i think they’d get along fantastically. sometimes when rantaro is just feeling so fucking tired, he’d pop by ryoma’s dorm for a candy cigarette and a casual conversation, and they’d chill. or maybe rantaro tells people to let ryoma have his space sometimes. just. vibing in solidarity. they’re bros! they’re bros.

rantaro + miu (6/10) full disclosure: i love them. leila i am so sorry that a dumb bitch like me would do this friendship like this. i’m just looking at the list and thinking “oh no i love them all” and when it comes to like, my favourite characters, unfortunately, miu had to go on the chopping block. i love them. feel like shit just want egg rp miu and rantaro back.

god! this is another one of those where like, rantaro isn’t judgmental (but he is firm!) so he and miu would get along really well. rantaro is really patient and he like, goes with the flow, so he and miu would be able to have conversations and he’d either shut down or tune out the sex jokes, actually carrying the conversation based on what she’s saying. miu is pretty chill, like, at least i feel like she’d be a really chill friend? so rantaro would be able to make insensitive jokes about how he just got stabbed and miu would be like “KYAHAHAHA you’re such a fuckin moron come to my lab i’ll make you a drink or some shit” and they’d just be cool. they’d just be cool! i want them to be best friends. please. just. two pals who spill tea and come to each other to make dark jokes. also miu cries into rantaro’s shoulder sometimes and he braids her hair fuck you i doooo what i want.

rantaro + gonta (7/10) hey! it’s SO fucking homophobic that the only amagoku fic on ao3 is fucking porn! i hate it here can you please give me some actual food? please? i’m dying. i’m dying here and you’re doing me like this. these two have so many rights! they have so many rights. i just, two special boys? thank you. thank you for them. i care them. if there was more fucking CONTENT for these two i would have given them a higher rating but i guess! i’ll fucking die!

damn i’m actually like... really tender, thinking about them. i just think they could take care of each other! that’s all. i feel like rantaro would be really patient with gonta but he would also treat him like! a real, intelligent person! idk! like not infantalise him despite being sweet and comforting. i don’t know! i think that’s important can you guys STOOOOP infantalising coded autistic characters that would be really sweet </3 but anyway. i headcanon that rantaro likes insects! or at least, he thinks they’re pretty neat! he thinks they’re neat and he likes them and even more than that he likes listening to gonta info dump, it’s just, it’s important. idk. i think rantaro would be really psyched by how excited gonta gets about insects, and of course gonta would be thrilled to have a friend who wants to talk to his insect friends.... hhhhHhh... and of course gonta would take care of rantaro, too, just, he’d respect rantaro’s boundaries and not ask him any questions, he’d offer space and let rantaro just, exist, and be. gonta is soft and he gives good hugs! and i think that he would just be able to let rantaro cry one out on his shoulder and that’s SO important to me.

also gonta is such a sweetheart so it would be like, hard, for rantaro to lie about stuff? i dunno, like, he’d do okay, and then gonta would ask him a question or something and rantaro would be hit with the Guilts... also like, rantaro employs a mix of like, slight coldness, and airheaded subject changes in making people back off, and i doubt he could really do that with gonta. why would you!!! he’s a soft man, just the softest!!!! these two soft green men :) i care them so fucking much can you imagine rantaro taking gonta to places to see bugs PLEASE they have so much potential can we fucking talk about this

rantaro + tenko (7/10) this one would be higher, but i deducted points because of how the fandom always sees rantaro as “fixing” tenko’s man hatred. that’s literally so gross can you shut up? please? i hate? men?

okay n e wayz. i like them! i think they’re neat, i think they’d be great friends... eventually LFKDJLKDSF like listen, okay? i think tenko really does have real fear of men. think about her backstory, like, her master dripping poison in her ear all her childhood, and then the way he had her working as a fucking VIGILANTE? i got distracted, but the main thing is, tenko wouldn’t like him at first. not even reluctantly! like rantaro very much looks like a playboy and that’s the epitome of the kind of guy tenko is against. obviously rantaro isn’t, but tenko isn’t getting close enough to see that! if a man so much as touches her she’s responding defensively, don’t you even think rantaro is going to get past that. and i don’t think rantaro would try Too hard, i mean, like, i think he’d be endeared to tenko because of how much she protects the girls, and how sweet she is when she’s like, not actively thinking about it, but i don’t think he’s so ready to get his ass kicked, y’know? but then maybe like! an accident will happen, and tenko falls over, and rantaro reaches to help her but she freaks and grabs his arm and flips him over and then BOOM!!! neo aikido magic things and she sees all his fucking stress, all his distrust, just how much he really blames himself for everything, how afraid and angry and tired he is, and we all know tenko is super compassionate so i think she would absolutely be worried about it. and then i think she’d like! keep an eye out for rantaro, at the very least try and get confirmation on all those emotions because this pretty boy soooo does not act like it, and then maybe one time she sees him getting grilled on his travels, or he comes back injured and tenko finds him, and she bails him out, begrudgingly, and then they start to become friends.

idk! i think they have platonic potential. i think rantaro would see her as a sister and i think tenko would eventually ask rantaro if he’s really a guy. (which he would laugh off, if he was cis, but if this is nb rantaro.... i’m just saying, the potential for tenko to help rantaro with gender awakening.... fantastic.) get into these two as friends. do it.

rantaro + tsumugi (8/10) (looks at ibuki poster) oh mioda, we’re really in it now. and by that i mean, god it’s so fucking hard to choose favourites from here FKJDSLFKJ i have almost all the girls just, up here, because i’m so fucking fond of their relationships with rantaro. and i know i said i don’t like ranmugi or rantaro/himiko, and it’s true, but i am obsessed with their platonic relationships with him. ESPECIALLY when tsumugi and rantaro are one-sided enemies.... that’s such good shit, holy crap.

okay, let me explain. i feel like rantaro and tsumugi can swing both ways, here. they can either be really good friends! like, rantaro is mellow so he lets tsumugi put him into cosplay (i think rantaro would make a really good n off the top of my head since they’re both green FLKJDSFKJ or light yagami..... handsome men) and since he loves listening to people info dump he just... lets tsumugi go fucking OFF about anime sometimes FKJDSLKFJ i think it would be sweet! i think tsumugi could give rantaro a place to unwind, because she’s so like, hard to phase, i guess? like tsumugi and rantaro share that trait where if you hit either of them in the face with a pie, they’d just go “oh, funky” and go to wash their clothes LMAO. power duo! they’re brother and sister! and i headcanon mugi as a lesbian so she talks to rantaro about ~girls~ sometimes. also u already know tsumugi got tea to spill so rantaro helps with her hair for a cosplay while she gossips KFJDLK honestly why aren’t she miu and rantaro a trio? i just think they’d be neat. good friends! best friends.

rantaro + angie (8/10) i love these two and these rankings are? so difficult for me, i am going to cry, you guys get the idea about me being a rantaro stan, right? i hope you do because god i love him so much. and i love him with angie! man. okay. okay.

so like. first of all. angie climbing onto rantaro’s back? perfect. she’s in need of piggy back rides and rantaro will gladly give them. rantaro is so patient and like, hhh i don’t want to use the word pliable because of horny people but that’s the best one i can come up with? like, he just goes with the flow, y’know? angie is so high strung, platonically i think she works really well with people who are patient and indulgent. i don’t know if rantaro would be much for her as far as fulfilling her loneliness, because angie is sort of looking for someone who Wouldn’t indulge her that much, but i’m absolutely weak for their dynamic. just, angie bringing up wacky ideas, rantaro responding with mild skepticism but also listening to her. i think she’d cause some trouble and he would be entirely here for it. bless them, honestly.

rantaro + shuichi (8/10) before you come at me like “but toxic! amasai is your otp!” it’s not, okay? it used to be. but due to negative associations i can’t really write it (or shuichi ships as a whole) that much anymore and it’s really frustrating so uh, yeah. amamota supremacy.

that being said, god the potential of these two. they’re a great balance. shuichi is anxious and rantaro is laid back, shuichi is reserved and rantaro is outgoing (to an extent; he definitely doesn’t have any issues voicing his opinions). i think rantaro would be really gentle with shuichi! he matches the quiet, less overwhelming vibes, and just. feels inclined to take care of him, y’know? and spend time with him. i think they’re sweet! i think they’re really cute. the other part of the amasai dynamic that i used to be obsessed with his shuichi’s natural curiosity. shuichi would be so curious about what’s going on with rantaro and why he’s traveling, and rantaro would want so badly to tell him, but he can’t risk it happening again, he can’t... oh!!! rantaro is is really good at comforting people i think so he’d be able to like, support shuichi when he’s upset, and shuichi has great communication skills! or at least i like to give them to him. so shuichi would nudge rantaro into being honest, and talking about his feelings. i just want to see them do well together, that’s all! i think that shuichi is earnest and emotional and he cares very dearly for his friends, and he would try really hard to take care of rantaro. he would also probably worry a lot about rantaro after figuring out he gets injured a lot in trips, which, like, FLKDJSFLKJ rantaro might not be so big on but honestly? the guy needs someone to worry about him.

also they FUCKING TRAVEL TOGETHER!!!! shuichi is a detective!!!!!! he can help rantaro search! cue post-salmon mode amasai slowburn as they travel the world together finding rantaro’s lost sisters. i really need to finish writing search, it’s been four months.

rantaro + kaede (9/10) hhh. oh man. oh geez. amamatsu, huh. amamatsu. i just. think about kaede having a little crush on rantaro after he painted her nails, because he’s so reassuring and patient and observant, and she knows he’s sketchy but she believes in him anyway because he has to be trustworthy, he has to, and then she sees him dead and is at first betrayed, horrified that he was the mastermind, only to realise he wasn’t, and she just killed an innocent person for no reason...

now that that’s out of the way, GOD I LOVE THEM! there are things about this relationship that prevent it from working out in the long term (at least in my opinion) but i don’t even care they have such a lovely dynamic and they look so good together... hhhhh i’m also so into them, just, platonically? god. okay. they just! like they already have that canonical dynamic of like, kaede bringing concerns to rantaro and him reassuring her or providing insight, and it’s so tender! the way he talks to her about miu or kiyo or kiibo (depending on who you choose) is so like, i dunno! he doesn’t judge her for having bad first impressions but at the same time he calmly looks a little more into why they behave the way they do? it’s just sweet! it’s just sweet, and i think rantaro can really help kaede like that, and help her to let her barriers down a little and feel not so pressured to be like, perfect all the time, y’know? to be a leader and take care of everyone 24/7. kaede really needs that.

and kaede! believes in him! she believes in him and looks to him for guidance and that’s so important for rantaro too, just, feeling trusted and knowing someone has faith in him... i really genuinely think kaede would encourage rantaro to keep on looking for his sisters, and urge him to trust other people and believe in himself, and it’s that same thing where she wants him to trust and open up to her and he wants to as well but it’s so difficult.... hhh!!! i think they’re so good!!!!! i just think they’re so good. they would take care of one another.

(the reason why i don’t think they’d be sustainable in the long term is because kaede like, she worries. and not in the way shuichi does? i just feel like she needs more stability and vulnerability than rantaro can actually bring to the table. i think kaede would try so, so, so hard to get rantaro to open up, and try so hard to take care of him and make sure he takes care of himself, and rantaro wouldn’t be putting in the same effort, because he can’t, and i don’t think kaede would blame him for it, but i do think that eventually she’d see it’s not. healthy. and it’s making her upset all the time. and she can’t keep up like this. they hurt me but i love them so much and i live in a world where they’re forever teens and never have to break up.)

rantaro + maki (9/10) what? what? two people who never interacted and who have almost less interactions than gonta and ryoma do with rantaro? why, tox? why?

... because i’m a simp. that’s the only reason! that’s the only reason. i think they look good together, i’m really weak for maki and rantaro, and that’s the only reason. that’s the only reason! i have a crush on them both and i want to see them interact. there it is. boom. get your “make fun of tox” juice. before i ramble about how much potential they have, i just want you to know how utterly biased i am towards them.

there! that’s out of the way! biases admitted. i think rantaro and maki have the potential to really balance each other out. rantaro is really mellow and maki has a bit of a temper, rantaro is airheaded and maki is focused, rantaro is sociable and maki is closed off. at the same time, though, they like, handshake on a lot of things, y’know? they’re both secretive and distrustful, they both don’t want to let other people get close out of a fear of losing them, they’re both so FUCKING sad please i just want to hold them. i think there’s a lot of potential for them to be like, coming back to hope’s peak late or something, rantaro coming home from a trip and maki coming home from an assassination, and to run into each other and both be curious but also neither of them asks anything because they’ve both got so much to hide...

(that’s actually the exact premise of my amami week day one oneshot, stay tuned, gamers.)

but!! then it happens more often and they start seeing each other a lot more, and slowly they start to get like, a sort of companionship? like they’re not close or anything, but they’re united by their like, distrust of other people. and maybe maki tends to a wound of rantaro’s, or like with tenko tells people to lay off of grilling him, or maybe RANTARO tends to a wound of MAKI’S, or sticks up for her in a conversation. and fuck!! maybe a mission goes wrong and maki is upset and she trusts nobody at this goddamn school (because kaito hasn’t taken her on as his sidekick yet) so she goes to rantaro for, fucking, something, for comfort, and it’s embarrassing and vulnerable and absolutely terrible but he’s so gentle and sweet maki can’t help but let her guard down for just a second. also love the aesthetic of like, rantaro coming home from a trip disheartened and running into maki and she calls him an idiot or something and he just starts crying while maki stands there, not sure what to do, before stepping forward and awkwardly patting his arm FKLDJSFKJd i just think they’re neat. strictly speaking he’s not maki’s type (read: optimistic and stupid) but i love them for each other.

love them as friends! love rantaro to be maki’s go-to friend when she needs her empowering haircut, and them tending to each other’s wounds is not an inherently romantic thing, and they just stick up for each other and vibe... hhhhh.

if none of this happens then idk rantaro is a bit intimidated by maki, and maki thinks he’s unreliable and untrustworthy. that’s probably more likely FLKDJSFKJ BUT I CAN DREAM OKAY? CRIES

rantaro + himiko (9/10) these two are brother and sister, full stop. there’s nothing morally wrong with shipping them, it’s more just that like. i don’t know! himiko is so childish, like, the epitome of a younger sister, and rantaro is the epitome of an older brother... they vibe so hard platonically and then romantically my brain just restarts itself. but anyway!

magic is himiko’s special interest!!!! it means a lot to her and she’s very adamant that it be called magic and not tricks, like, even to the point of slowing down a trial and making herself look guilty in chapter two. i think rantaro is very used to playing along with his sisters’ stuff, and i think he would absolutely humour himiko. and like, they both know it’s not really magic, but it’s the effort that himiko appreciates, and in like, a no-pressure way like rantaro does it? yes please.

i think he would give her piggyback rides. like in chapter five when they’re climbing the stairs to kaito’s lab and himiko goes “someone give me a piggyback ride!” you already know rantaro would be volunteering. (side note: read whattheskyknows’ fic “missing (isn’t always so bad)” because it has that scene and i’m emotional.) i think he’d really take care of her! idk i know i’ve said that about a lot of these but rantaro is very caring. he’d look after himiko and make sure she’s taking her depression meds and carry her to her room when she falls asleep and tell people off when they overwhelm her and hhhh... and himiko would support him too! like with his travels and stuff, she wouldn’t really care about knowing why he’s traveling because it’s not her business and also like, asking about that stuff is a pain, who cares, if he’s gonna travel he’s gonna travel. rantaro would buy her books about magic while traveling and read them to her if she wants, and she would perform magic tricks for him and remind him of what it’s like to have a younger sister again. they matter to me. they should matter to you, too.

rantaro + kirumi (9/10) now i KNOW you weren’t expecting me to put amatoujou any lower, do you know who my favourite person in this fandom is? you are legally obligated to go check out Storyflight’s ao3 and read all of their amatoujou fics because they’re phenomenal and story is too. story ilu. amatoujou week is coming up on october third. participate or die.

anyway! i just think like, in general, rantaro has a lot of respect and appreciation for kirumi. she takes care of everyone! she works so hard all the time and she can really do anything and she’s so composed and calm all the time, and she has this sweet smile and this little laugh and this relaxing, patient energy, and hhhhhhh. rantaro respects her so damn much! so damn much. and maybe he simps a little regardless of whether they’re romantically involved because she works so hard. they get along! pseudo-parents of the group as people always make them. rantaro wants kirumi to kick back every so often, y’know? she matters to him and he’d like to see her being true to herself and enjoying herself. i also think he’s pretty stern with people when it comes to her, and just like, respecting her boundaries, the kinda guy to calmly and casually go, “hey, ouma-kun, she told you not to call her your mother, maybe you’d better respect that?” and kokichi goes “simp” but nevermind nevermind, i’m covering oumami on the next bullet.

idk! i think they’d look after each other! i think rantaro would make sure that kirumi is actually Taking Care Of Herself and of course kirumi would notice him coming in injured all the time and she would absolutely tend to his injuries without asking any questions at all. she would make sure he’s eating and if he requested, she would even tell everyone to Back The Fuck Off on his secrets and leave him alone FKJDSKFj i think she would always emphasise to him that she’ll do whatever she can for him if he so much as asks, as is her duty as a maid or whatever, but rantaro will refuse because like!!! hell’s no, he’s not about to feed into her complex my dude!!!!! but anyway.

i think it would... i just think it would be neat if he told her about his sisters! that’s all. kirumi is a fucking powerhouse, even if rantaro didn’t request it, she would totally help him find all twelve of them and bring them home. honestly? prime slowburn material, just, rantaro requesting that she help find his sisters and they slowly fall in love along the way... hhhhh if i wasn’t a fucking coward i’d write it myself, what a fantastic multi-chapter concept. i am so smart.

rantaro + kokichi (10/10) romantic oumami i go back and forth on but these two are really high at this specific moment in time because i love them SO much platonically, my god.

kokichi is a fucking brat! he’s such a brat, just, an absolute menace, a troublemaker and buffoon. i care him a lot but he’s so tiring to deal with, and if you don’t have the patience it’s hard to like, try and understand him? like with the shorter fuse members of the class (read: kaito and maki) it would be really hard to actually, get to the point where you can see past his bullshit KFJSDLFKJ but rantaro is patient! he’s a patient boy, and he’s hard to menace, and he grew up with twelve younger sisters. twelve!!! he takes care of them, bro, he can handle a little shit gremlin in his life. i think he’d be endeared to kokichi because of this reason, like, the immaturity, it just reminds him of his sisters, and if kokichi pulled out the “onii-chan”... hoo, it’s over. rantaro will do whatever this guy wants. just, a total enabler. absolute goon and enabler. i love them so much.

on a more serious note, they both have a lot of baggage, and similar to harumami it’s like, they’re both really distrustful! they’re distrustful, they just deflect in different ways. i think they’re both observant and intelligent enough that they could bounce off of each other really well. i do think kokichi is a bit smarter than rantaro is, if only just because it’s really hard to be smarter than kokichi, but i still think rantaro could keep up with them. and i think they could be a safe haven for each other! like rantaro gives him a place to truly feel safe, y’know, which is SO rare for kokichi the way he believes everyone is out to get him, and kokichi could give rantaro a place to just, stop smiling. unwind and be himself a little bit. be a little mean! bitch a little! be openly distrustful!

they take care of each other is all!! care them.

rantaro + kaito (20/10) you think you know a simp’s rating system and then she pulls one of these. i’m honestly a little worried about how long this will be because i’ve literally been writing this for three hours but KFJDSKJFDK i’m going to try my very, very best! so here goes :3c

kaito and rantaro have... so much in common. look at these two emotionally constipated, constantly smiling, constantly putting on a brave face, never letting their guard down, never relying on anyone but themselves, always taking care of other people, always taking the burden onto themselves... yeah. it’s like looking in a mirror. and in some cases that’s a really terrible foundation for a relationship. but with these two, when their unhealthy similarities are so reliant upon the other person being willing to just let themself be helped... it works out.

because they’re sweet! they’re sweet people, and rantaro will probably notice the way that kaito takes so much crap from people, including his sidekicks, while working so hard to take care of everyone, and kaito will of Course notice how rantaro is gone all the time, and how he kind of takes himself out of group interactions and makes himself an outcast, and how subtly closed off he is... there’s interest! and they’re both so inclined to help each other i feel like they’d get close! kaito would probably have a bit of a squish on rantaro anyway because he’s the fucking ultimate adventurer and what the hell, that’s so fucking cool, kaito’s destiny obviously lies in the stars but knowing someone who’s going to conquer the earth... that’s awesome. he probably sees rantaro as an equal even before they start getting close. (aka he thinks rantaro is totally above him in every way, like, the ideal almost, but “an equal” is something the luminary of the stars would say, so there he is.) and rantaro thinks kaito is a little silly, but he’s sweet! it’s sweet how much he takes care of other people and just, like, looks after them. rantaro’s weak for a good dork.

and maybe kaito asks rantaro to train with him sometime, or challenges him to a fight, and of course rantaro goes for it because he’s a Man or whatever (and if they do fight it’s homoerotic as hell FKLDSJFK) and plus he’s been meaning to get to know kaito anyway, and then they make a habit of it and start like!! spending time together. and kaito drags rantaro into the larger group and makes him interact and rantaro quietly tells people to lay off kaito, or else makes sure that he’s actually taking care of himself, and then they’re both trying so hard to just, help each other, and they keep like deflecting it back onto the other person, and it’s frustrating! and rantaro is sitting there like “man i really wish momota-kun would open up to me!!” before realising fucking... wait. i do the same thing. like how can he expect kaito to open up to him if he wont do the same thing, y’know? and then he ponders that, and is like, well maybe the relationship just isn’t worth it like vulnerability is for gay losers, but rantaro is, inevitably, a gay loser, so...

there’s just something about seeing your own flaws magnified on another person who you really, really want to take care of, that makes you realise how uncomfortable that is. obviously kaito doesn’t realise he’s upsetting people by pushing them away, not until rantaro closes the door in his face during a breakdown, and then he seriously needs to reevaluate the way he takes care of other people.

idk! i think they’re fantastic. i think kaito’s fervent belief in people would lend itself well to rantaro’s task, like, who doesn’t want to be believed in, y’know? and kaito is so strong about it, even when rantaro doubts himself he’s so encouraging and it’s nice. and rantaro gives kaito space to stop being the hero for a second and just! be kaito! and kaito can tend to his wounds and rantaro can take care of him when he’s sick and hhhHhHhHhhhhHh i care about them SO fucking much.

also? amamota baking sessions? absolutely fucking flawless. these two are so important to me.

do you have any tips for writing kiibo? i started what was SUPPOSED to be an easy-breezy 500w shipfic from his pov, but i've just been staring at my word document in agony while he hisses at me and refuses to be characterized. he always comes off so natural in sleep awake What Is Your Secret

the word that comes to mind first when writing kiibo is polite . hes a polite guy . i also think bc in drv3 canon at least , hes an ai, he doesn't seem to use much slang or contracted words, and often defers to the elongated version, i.e. cannot instead of can't.

He hesitates a fair amount and usually says 'um' or 'erm' instead of 'uh.' which is jsut . something i noticed idk how helpful it will be but its there.

kiibo tries to help people out , mostly. he's just a good dude. but in terms of dialogue yeah, very polite, bordering on formal a lot of the time, watch out for contractions in his speech. in terms of romance considering its a shipfic, i dont know how much help i will be because whenever i write him in sleep awake it's always in a strictly platonic sense until it comes to iruma . BUT we do know that he gets super nervous around people he likes , considering how he reacted to iruma. i also think he's a very sensitive person; he was super cut up about her death, but he seemed to take everyone else's to heart too. he's also one of the more logical characters in the game , which makes sense because he's literally a computer, a very rarely lets emotion cloud his judgement. although he obviously cared for iruma he's not one of the characters that go out of his way to deny that he was trying to kill ouma once it was proven; he expresses his disbelief but as soon as he feels saihara has proved it, he just sort of accepts it with disappointment. i think he's the type to really, really want the people he loves to be good always, but he doesn't go so far as to put them on pedestals or anything . and on top of all that, he's very helpful and selfless.

Rantaro Amami

There was a dark aura in the trial grounds as everyone’s chatter continued on. Rantaro had a feeling since they first exited the elevator that you were hiding something, and as the trial went on, the sinking feeling in his stomach only got worse.

He didn’t really care so much how or when you committed the murder, he just wanted to know why. He wouldn’t even have imagined his dear S/O committing such an atrocious act.

You began to grow more and more nervous as you felt his stone gaze beat into you… Like he was staring into your soul. Finally, you just admitted it was you.

Rantaro let out a sigh. Definitely not one of relief. More like a weight he had been carrying was now off his shoulders, but in the worst way possible.

It was a particularly messy kill, so people didn’t have too hard of a time believing it was you. The vote was cast swiftly and everyone stared at the screen as your portrait appeared. You were the Blackened.

Your classmates looked at you in a mixture of pity and remorse. They demanded you explain your actions in minute detail, but the only voice you could register was that of your boyfriend’s.

“Why?” Rantaro asked you simply. “Why did you do this?”

“B-because…” It was hard to speak with everyone’s gazes upon you, but you managed to choke out your explanation, and everyone appeared satisfied, aside from a few snide remarks from Miu and Kokichi, but Rantaro shut them up with a harsh glare.

You couldn’t tell if he was disappointed, sad, angry, or a mix of the three, but all you felt in that moment was shame so heavy that you felt like you deserved whatever Monokuma had in store for you.

Rantaro approached you, and you braced yourself for harsh words, but instead he gently wrapped his arms around you in a loving embrace. His hugs were always the best, but this one was tighter than usual, and he was slightly trembling.

“I love you S/O. I’m so, so sorry.”

He tried to grab you again when you were dragged off to face your execution, but there was nothing he could do. He felt empty. The anger and depression wouldn’t sink in until much later, all he could think about was that you were gone. Or else he thought.

“Did ya miss me?”

He stared at you, mouth agape, but he nodded in response. He gently placed his hand on your cheek and caressed it with his thumb before leaning in to kiss you.

“Yeah, I did.”

Kokichi Ouma

For once, Kokichi almost lost his composure. He knew it was you from the very beginning, but a part of him thought maybe, just maybe there was a chance he could be proven wrong.

He kept his arms carelessly rested behind his head, he had the same mischievous grin, and he still toyed with your classmates like it was all a game to him. But inside, he was panicking. He finally found someone he could trust, and she had to go and kill someone. He felt betrayed, but the common sense in him told him not to jump to any conclusions just yet.

To your surprise, Kokichi barely acknowledged you at all throughout the entire trial. But then again, you knew him long enough to know that he probably had connected all of the dots long beforehand. Was he pissed off? Did he not care? There was no way for you to know.

Everyone else came to the same conclusion he had, and trial ended with you being voted as the Blackened. Since you were dating Kokichi, everyone had assumed that you were as nasty as him by default, so no one was really surprised.

“Why did you do it?” It wasn’t Kokichi who had asked this, but Shuichi. Your boyfriend was still actively ignoring you.

“I…” You explained to the best of your abilities. Your motivations came to a bit of a shock to the others. They expected something more… Sadistic.

You knew every second drew you closer to death, and you wanted to break the silence between Kokichi and yourself before you left him for good. You spoke his name, but he cut you off before you could say anything else.

“Wait!” He turned towards Monokuma with a desperate look on his face that surprised even you.

“Execute me instead! You want someone to die, right? Kill me in her place!”

You stood there blankly, unable to process what was going on. Kokichi, who had been ignoring you for the whole trial, who hadn’t even reacted to your confession, was now pleading for your life.

Monokuma just laughed at him. The black and white bear pulled a lever and the chain gripped your neck in a tight hold and yanked you backwards.

Kokichi screamed out your name as you disappeared. Shortly after, you reappeared on the large screen, and everyone watched as you withstood indescribable torture. Kokichi couldn’t even watch the end. He turned away, a dark shadow covering his expression. You were gone. The only person who had ever truly loved him. The Mastermind would be put through hell. He would see to it personally.

There was a tap on his shoulder, and he whipped around to see your triumphant smirk.

“Miss me?”

“W-what?”

Not much time was spent before he tackled you in a hug. His heart pounded in his chest, and he fought to hold back tears. His stance on the Mastermind still stood. They would pay in their blood for what happened to you, but that would have to wait awhile. Kokichi didn’t plan on letting you go any time soon.

Shuichi Saihara

Shuichi couldn’t believe it. It was Kaede all over again, but this time worse. At that point, he was convinced God wanted to see him suffer.

It hurt him immensely to do so, but as the Ultimate Detective, it was his job to root out the truth and save his fellow classmates from impending doom… Even at the cost of his lover’s life.

The entire time he followed the trail towards you, he felt the lump in his throat getting ever bigger. He knew without a doubt you were the killer, but he couldn’t bring himself to flat out say it. You both made direct eye contact, and though your lips were in a straight line, and your eyebrows rested comfortably like you could care less about the world, your eyes spoke to him in a way that said “it’s okay. You can say it.”

And so he did.

“…and my deductions have lead me to believe that… S/O is the killer.”

Everyone gasped. Partly at the fact that he thought you were the killer, but also because he could accuse his girlfriend of murder so calmly. It was a whirlwind of emotions in the trial room, but no one’s shock could outmatch the pure despair you and Shuichi felt in that moment.

Before he voted, Shuichi insisted you explain your actions, and internally begged that you at least killed them on accident, and not in an act of cold blood.

After you had explained everything with tears in your eyes threatening to spill over, everyone cast their vote, and all that was left to do was wait.

Shuichi didn’t waste anymore time on talking, tears fell from his eyes like a waterfall and he solemnly walked up to you and pulled you into his arms. He didn’t even care why you did it. He was about to lose the most important person in his life, and it was going to be shown on a huge t.v. like it was some sort of joke.

“I’m so sorry Shuichi.” You felt like you had to say something, something to calm his nerves, and to atone for the emotional strain he was put through, but he just shook his head and squeezed you tighter.

“No, I’m sorry. I should’ve prevented this from happening, I should’ve-”

“Let’s give it everything we’ve got! IIIIIIIIIT’S, PUNISHMENT TIME!”

In the blink of an eye, you were ripped from Shuichi’s grasp and pulled onto the execution grounds. It happened so fast Shuichi couldn’t even react. He just watched in silent agony as you went through your death. It was torture. There was no way he would be able to bounce back from this. But… maybe God didn’t hate him as much as he thought.

“Ya miss me?”

Of course he would ask a million questions once you got out of there, but at that moment all Shuichi did was hold you while the sobbing started up again.

Kaito Momota

Kaito was yelling throughout the entire trial. It wasn’t unusual for him to be vocal during trials, but this time there was unadulterated anger and frustration lacing his words as everyone began to accuse you of the murder.

“W-What the hell are you guys saying?! S/O would never kill anyone! Shuichi-”

But even his sidekick wasn’t there with him this time. Kaito desperately looked over at you, inwardly begging you to show any sign of innocence, but the look of guilt in your eyes said it all.

Even after everyone had voted and you were revealed to be the Blackened, he was still in denial. He tried to run at Monokuma, yelling various insults and curse words while Shuichi and Kiibo both held him back.

Nobody would ever catch him cry, but the sadness in his eyes was enough.

“S/O, why?”

You explained everything, expecting Kaito to be furious with you. He was furious, all right, but not with you; with the Mastermind.

He panicked when Monokuma announced that it was time for your punishment, and ran over to you, wrapping you in a protective embrace. But the chain grasped your torso, and even Kaito’s strong hold wasn’t enough to keep you from being yanked backwards.

He watched your execution, gritting his teeth the entire time.

“DAMN IT!” He yelled, pounding his fist on a nearby surface. It wasn’t fair. You shouldn’t have been forced to kill. He was going to stop this killing game. For you, and for-

His thoughts were interrupted by a voice coming from behind him.

“Did ya miss me?”Surprisingly, his shock didn’t last long before he pulled you into a hug. Like I said, nobody would ever see him cry… But at that moment, he was pretty damn close.

K1-B0

Kiibo couldn’t understand it. He couldn’t wrap his head around how you could get yourself in this position. Whether you killed on purpose or by accident, he was just… dumbfounded.

The entire trial he was silent. Normally he would chime in, as eager to solve the murder and get back to his life as everyone else. But now he could only watch in depressed silence as the trial continued on. You had told him beforehand exactly what happened, and though Kiibo did have his own sense of justice… he still couldn’t send his lover to her death.

But once the trial came to a close and your face appeared on the large t.v. signifying your guilt, his silence came to an end. There was a flood of emotions he didn’t even know he could feel. Sadness at your impending death, fear at what said death would hold in store for you, and anger that you were forced into this situation in the first place.

Everyone asked why you did what you did, Kiibo included, and you answered honestly. Monokuma’s shrill and ugly voice rang out, saying it was time for your punishment. You ran to Kiibo to share one last hug, and kissed him gently on his cheek, apologizing for leaving him. Kiibo assured you he held no hard feelings, and himself apologized for letting it come to this.

He broke down in tears when the chain yanked you backwards into the black abyss; into the trial grounds fit only for the Ultimate (Talent) herself.

You two were always together… How could this happen? You swore to protect each other, and he lost you. Throughout your execution, he was thinking of ways he could destroy the Mastermind and end the killing game. Kiibo couldn’t allow anyone else to die.

He didn’t even notice the amazed gasps coming from his classmates as you stumbled up behind him, at least, not until he heard your voice.

“Did you miss me?”

“S-S/O?”

Kiibo wasted no time in rushing over to you, wrapping his arms around you, which, needless to say, was a little painful, but at the time you didn’t care; you simply hugged him back and cried with him. As emotional as this moment was, you would have a lot of explaining to do later… As well as a very pissed off Monokuma to deal with.

DANGANRONPA AUTUMN WEEK 2020

DAY 2 : HOLIDAY AND TOGETHER

AU: Post Game Simulation V3

lmao i rushed this because i wanted to add so much so its messy and im sorry

It had been a couple of months since a small group of school kids with extraordinary talents had been forced to endure a traumatic life changing event. Slaughtering each other left and right and having to kick start survival senses just to make it through. Even if it was all virtual, the pain of dying and the pain of betrayal was all real for each of them. Although through the misery of a killing game, these kids found a bond between them all, having learned all of the best and worst parts of each other.

After they woke up, they had made an oath to always keep in touch and check in on each other no matter where their future paths may take them. So far, that vow had stood strong. As the seasons changed and the healing continued, they made time for each other.

The air outside grew colder and colder until dew from the day began to frost as the sun disappeared in the horizon. Kaede Akamatsu and Shuichi Saihara walked down a long asphalt paved driveway towards a large white home that reminded the both of them of a mansion from movies. Complete with carved pillars and a green garden outside with flowers that popped against the white and cream of the structure. The grass around the property looked like it was just as green as golf fields.

Kaede held a tub of cookies in her mittened hands while Shuichi carefully walked a pitcher of apple cider he had homemade with Kaede not too long before their departure.

“I knew Kirumi was well off with her talent but jeez!” Kaede’s bright voice cut through the cold.

“I’m not r-really surprised.” Shuichi responded, shivering and stuttering.

Kirumi Tojo had decided that they should meet up for the holidays and have themselves a “Friendsgiving.” She informed everyone that she would be making the main dishes but if anyone had anything else they specifically wanted, she would welcome the aid.

“I’m so excited to see everyone! They’re all getting a big hug whether they like it or not!” Kaede always spoke with such determination and confidence and luckily that same attitude had slowly begun to rub off on Shuichi.

“I’m s-sure they’d l-love that.” Shuichi turned to look at her and smile before glancing back towards the front door.

As they had gotten closer, they noticed a fall wreath hanging on the front door. Yellows, browns, and oranges littered the leaves and flowers that circled it. As they stepped on to the small stairs that lead to the porch, they saw a couple of the flower picks had fallen off; hot glue bubbles still on the ends. Shuichi determined that this must be a homemade wreath.

Kirumi would not have let her creations fall apart like that. So they wondered just who would have taken part in the decorations.

Kaede reached out her hand and softly knocked on the wooden door. It only took a moment before an excited Angie swung the door open.

“Ah! Atua told me that it was you two!” She tilted her head from side to side.

“Don’t listen to her. She looked outside the window and noticed Kaede walking up!” Tenko shouted behind her. In her hands was a banner with many fall colors.

“Nyehh…” A small voice beside Tenko mumbled. “Tenko, I can’t put that above the window. I’m too short. I have to save my magic for dinner.”

“Don’t worry Himiko! I will get it and all you have to do is hold the end and look pretty!” Tenko grabbed Himiko’s hand and pulled her off towards a grand window facing the front of the house.

Angie bounced on the soles of her feet before moving out of the way to let Shuichi and Kaede through. “Now we are just waiting on Gonta! I hope he did not get lost! Atua would be very upset if he did not make it in time for the turkey!”

“Oh I’m sure he will get here! We just have to be patient.” Kaede nodded and then walked further into the house to find the dining room. Shuichi shut the front door behind him and trailed after her.

As they passed through the living room, more and more familiar faces appeared. On the large sectional sat Tsumugi, Hoshi, and Korekiyo. The three of them were facing towards the TV that was mounted on top of the fireplace in the middle of the wall. Korekiyo, sat criss cross on an arm rest of the sofa, kept his attention on a small book that he had brought with him. Tsumugi and Hoshi sat on the cushions, their attention on the TV that had the Netflix menu on it.

“Tsumugi. It’s Thanksgiving. Can we not use my account to watch your trashy cartoons please?” Hoshi’s calm deep voice questioned her. He leaned back and adjusted the candy cigarette in his mouth, something he always kept to curb his previous addiction.

“Not all of it is trashy! I can find some very sweet slice of life animes! Like Ouran! Or Fruits Basket!”

“I don’t care what’s in the basket. I just don’t want it in my watch history.” Hoshi pulled his beanie over his eyes and sighed.

Shuichi had to bite his lip so that he didn’t outwardly laugh at the quick witted response. Kaede didn’t want to get involved in that argument and moved forward into the hallway.

“You little fucker!” A shrill voice stopped them in their tracks.

“Get your short ass back here!”

A small figure zoomed out of a room and into the hallway. Of course Kokichi had gotten himself into trouble already.

“It’s your fault your hair is so long! Maybe you should cut it or something? I hear being bald is totally in right now!” Kokichi giggled and raised a finger to his lips, a signature move as he teased.

Iruma followed into the hallway, holding strands of her hair. “You better open your tiny little mouth and get to eating this shit out. I am not about to let it dry and ruin my beautiful blonde hair!”

“Don’t you know how to use a hairbrush? Or do you not know hygiene either?”

“That’s it. Say you’re fucking prayers!” Iruma lunged forward but a hand covered with rings wrapped around her forearm.

“Iruma. It’s just jello. It won’t ruin anything.” Rantaro came into view. He let go of her and folded his arms across his chest. “And Kokichi. This is a special time. Don’t waste food by throwing it at people. We’re literally trying to celebrate being thankful.”

Kokichi sighed loudly and slumped his shoulders. “Fine.” He drug the word out in annoyance. “I’ll just go steal the remote from the weeb or something then.” He turned on his heel and pushed past Shuichi and Kaede down into the living room.

“Hey guys. Sorry about that.” Rantaro’s previous firm attitude fell and the normal carefree one appeared. “Guess I gotta keep a better eye on him while we are here.” He put a hand behind his neck and looked down at their hands. “Oh yeah Kirumi is in the dining room now looking to place the food. So go right ahead.” He moved out of the way and followed Kokichi’s path.

Iruma had been messing with the strands of hair, trying to pick the food out. “He’s lucky that Rantaro was here to protect him. Again. One day I’m gunna beat the shit out of that little twink.”

“Ah I think he’s just, just trying to g-get a rise out of you.” Shuichi offered.

“I don’t want that kind of rise for me!” Iruma smarted off, making Shuichi shut his mouth quickly.

“Okay!” Kaede interrupted. “We’re going to go set these down then!” She wanted to cut it off before it got anymore vulgar. Shuichi nodded and the two of them started towards the kitchen.

“I’d close my eyes before walking through there.” Iruma warned.

“Why? Is the food cooking in there just that appetizing? Will we want to eat it the minute we see it?” Kaede’s eyes widened with joy.

Iruma blushed brightly. “Uh. No!” She struggled to find words. “Worse! Actually just go see for yourself. Embarrass him more while you’re at it!” She let out a boisterous laugh before turning her heel to another room down the hallway that had to be a bathroom.

Shuichi and Kaede exchanged looks before walking into the kitchen, slightly afraid of what they might find. What they didn’t expect was the see Kaito and Maki in the middle of the room. Kaito leaning on a cabinet with something in his hand in front of Maki, keeping her in place.

“How many times do I have to tell you? Wrong holiday.”

“Isn’t it close enough though?” Kaito’s voice pleaded. “Come on. It’s tradition.”

“Yes. For Christmas.” Maki sounded like she was way past done with the conversation.

“So you admit that you’ll kiss me under the mistletoe at Christmas.” Kaito smirked and looked down at her with his “famous smolder.”

“I am not admitting anything. I am stating a fact Kaito.” Maki’s face flushed and she reached up to play with the hair that had fallen in front of her shoulders.

That’s why Iruma had mentioned embarrassing someone. Kaito had mistletoe and had been trying to get Maki under it.

“Sidekick help me out.” Shuichi didn’t think Kaito had noticed him.

“I uh, uhm. Well.” Shuichi stumbled on his words.

“See? He agrees with me!” Kaito said matter of factly.

“He just stuttered like always.” Maki glared.

“Yeah and I can understand his language!” Kaito leaned back offended. “Don’t hurt his feelings like that!”

“Why don’t you get him under that first then.” Maki challenged.

“I will! Get over here sidekick!” Kaito stomped his foot down and motioned for Shuichi to come forward.

Shuichi panicked slightly and shook his head. “Actually Kaito uh, actually I n-need to take this to Kirumi. You just, uhm, just keep trying.” He struggled to appease the taller male in front of him. He ducked his head nervously and turned into the grandiose dining room, Kaede giggling behind him.

The room had a yellow mood lighting with a large table in the middle. A white lace table runner down the middle with some plates already sat at the chairs. At the end of the table they found that they had finally met their goal. Kirumi and Kiibo stood down at the end. In Kiibo’s hands were two sets of plates that Kirumi would reach for as she set the table.

“Oh hello Kaede. Shuichi. It’s so wonderful to see you.” Kirumi’s pleasant tone was a nice change from the chaos they had just previously endured.

“Kirumi is letting me learn how to properly set tables!” Kiibo seemed genuinely excited to be able to help out.

“That’s wonderful Kiibo!” Kaede looked for a place to set her tin of cookies and gestured for Shuichi to do the same with the pitcher.

“We just have a couple of plates left to set and then everyone can come and eat.” Kirumi gently placed some utensils down into a designed napkin.

“I do not believe Gonta has arrived yet. I am hoping he will be here soon.” Kiibo pointed out and frowned in concern.

“Gonta will make it in time. It’s part of being a gentleman.” Kirumi pointed out and placed her hands in front of her on her skirt. Kiibo took the last set of plates and placed them on the placemat along with the proper utensils.

“I think we are ready now.” Kiibo nodded.

“Alright. Well why don’t the three of you pick your seats while I go and inform the others.” Kirumi seemed to glide as she exited the dining room.

It wasn’t long before the empty spaces were filled with bodies chattering with each other. Kirumi was back and forth putting the main courses on the table. Angie sprung into the dining room with a large figure behind her.

“Look everyone! Gonta made it! Atua helped guide him to us! How divine!” She collapsed her hands together before sitting down next to Himiko. Everyone lifted their heads and greeted him with delight.

“Gonta very sorry everyone! Gonta not sure what to bring as gift but finally found amazing thing!” Gonta held up a wrapped present and smiled wide.

“Gonta why did you bring a gift?” Kokichi questioned.

“Well Gonta just do what Miss Kirumi tell him. It Friendsgiving. So Gonta bring something to give friends!”

Kokichi began to laugh loudly. “Gonta you are so gullible! It’s a play on Thanksgiving! It doesn't mean giving to friends!”

“Oh!” Gonta’s face fell. “Gonta so sorry everyone! Just wanted to do the gentlemanly thing.”

“You did.” Kirumi walked back in for the final time and took the gift from Gonta. “I will go ahead and open it. Alright?” She peeled the wrapping paper away to reveal a diorama of different beetle types. Something used for educational purposes in the classroom. “This is wonderful, Gonta. I am sure we will learn a lot from this. Go ahead and have a seat.”

Gonta nodded before sitting down next to Kokichi and unfolding a napkin to put in his lap.

With such varying personalities, the chances of them all being friends under normal circumstances was low. However, they were all grateful for the friendships they had gained and found within each other. Kirumi cut into the turkey and served a piece to each person. Everyone�� was just happy to forget about their lives for a while. Despite everything that happened, this holiday was panning out to be one of the best ones they’ve had.

I legit see Tenko as having a sort of 'purity culture' mindset and repressed sexuality(I blame her master's teachings): Sex is Bad, Men are Lustful, etc and I see this in so many things she says and her love hotel scene and interactions with Himiko(when asked,she says her love for Himiko is pure, she also often seems flustered/guilty at 'impure' thoughts) and the cast and it makes it hard for me to see her as a "proud man-hating lesbian" though she clearly is attracted to girls atleast.

(2) Im aware that girls from certain areas and communities in my country, would avoid boys because of the whole cultural idea that men are predatory, girls must stay pure, etc reinforced by respected elders many of whom are themselves male, and so I feel I can best understand Tenko from that point of view. (Her parents sent her to a monastery to calm her down. This makes it feel all the more likely to me.)

(3) Sorry about the Tenko rant, I meant no offense to those who do see her as a proud lesbian. It’s simply a head canon or interpretation, but I always worry about mentioning it in case it seems homophobic. But it’s something on my mind whenever her man-hating is brought up both by people who dismiss or hate her as sexist and hypocritical and people who see it as evidence of being a lesbian and like her for it. I’m just glad I can say it. Thanks and sorry for the long ask.

Hey, don’t worry! I love getting tags and discussing characters so it’s perfectly okay, really :) And we all need to rant sometimes.

That said… I want to make something clear - I haven’t seen all of Tenko’s FTEs and her Love Hotel scene. I don’t treat them as all that important or canon (especially the hotels), I usually just like to have some idea what they’re all about and that’s enough for me? But I know that for some people they are very important so keep in mind that I’m not one of those.

I never thought about it that way and I think that what you’re saying is very valid and based on what we know from canon - it makes perfect sense? I actually never thought about Tenko’s background that much, because for me it was always a bit confusing, but personally I see her as someone who is… rather lost. In the sense that she doesn’t seem to know what to do and how to feel in certain situations, because she has those ideas that were put in her head and they kind of… don’t really work the way they should in actual real life. I don’t think that Tenko, as she is in the game, is actually capable of deciding what her sexuality is in an… um… objective way? I’m not sure how to say that. It’s like, most people have this moment, sometimes when they’re still children, but sometimes when they’re already adults - that what they were said about the world, the vision of it their parents or teachers told them isn’t really true and real life is just… different. Sometimes it’s due to exaggeration or some kind of overprotectiveness but often it happens simply because times change. I totally agree that Tenko seems to have a bunch of those outdated ideas in her head that kind of clash with reality.

The way I see it - Tenko has a lot of growing to do. I feel like there would come this moment in her life when she has to face those ideas she has about the world and realize that they’re this kind of simplification and that real life is different. Men aren’t always predators. Women aren’t always pure and good. She has to start thinking for herself instead of hiding behind all those stereotypes. And, well. It requires a lot of courage. And time. And probably some gentle guidance (coughkaedecough).

That’s why I usually feel a bit uncomfortable when Tenko’s… sexual life is discussed. Because I simply don’t think that canon Tenko is actually able to handle things like that. She should first figure out what SHE really thinks and how she really feels. Because otherwise, she might just end up being hurt. Or hurting someone else. She is a lovely character and her heart is definitely in the right place. I just feel like she’s also very lost and very confused and tries to mask - probably not intentionally - this with this whole ‘degenerate males’ and ‘girls are pure and innocent’ act, because it’s easier for her to see the world that way. It makes the life simpler. It just doesn’t feel like it’s coming from her (because there’s nothing to indicate that, there’s no reason for us to think that she went through any kind of trauma and this is some kind of coping mechanism) and makes no sense especially since she’s surrounded by male characters who are actually really gentle and nice (like Gonta, Shuichi or Kiibo) and female characters who aren’t that innocent at all (Kaede, Kirumi, Angie).

Personally, I enjoy various portrayals of Tenko, I feel like this “proud man-hating lesbian" works really well in all kinds of HPA and High-school/University AUs? But. With canon Tenko I usually like to keep her away from actual romance and any sexual encounters before she actually figures out her own feelings and sexuality for herself, at least a little. I usually see her in-game relationship with Himiko as a combination of admiration and affection but some part of me also feels like… it might be some kind of coping mechanism? Like, she can be strong for Himiko and it helps her in an extreme situation like this killing game. Because she becomes so fixated on everything-Himiko that she doesn’t have to face the reality of the situation. If she is a lesbian - I don’t think she’s aware of this. It makes perfect sense to interpret her as a lesbian though. Everything points to this. But I also like to think that in the game it’s mostly her desire to create a close meaningful bond with another girl and also to have someone to protect. Like I said before: there’s admiration. Very strong admiration and desire to protect. And this need to know the other person better. However, if it is a crush/love (I personally always have a problem with the idea of developing actual feelings for another person in, like, a week… not to mention that I feel like Tenko kind of projects certain ideas on Himiko, because she doesn’t really know her that well. but hey, it might be just the demiromantic in me talking, so feel free to ignore that bit, I guess…) I don’t think it’s one that Tenko is aware of. Or that she’s even capable of being aware of, because: 1. like I stated before, she’s kind of lost and confused when it comes to things like that and 2. we only see those early stages of their relationship and for the most part Himiko isn’t very fond of Tenko’s… advances. It is not a strong and mutual relationship (yet!). Of course, we know that Himiko appreciates Tenko more after her death but… the ‘after her death’ part is rather crucial here :’D I do believe that they can have this deep relationship in which they both admire and care about the other person but they would both need time to actually get to know each other and appreciate the other person not out of some idealization but for who they really are.

Sooo, to sum it up somehow… I think you make some very good points and I feel like Tenko has a lot of growing to do. And personally I wouldn’t want to see her labeling herself as anything before she herself figures it all out for herself. And the way I see it - she definitely doesn’t have it figured out in canon.
