oh, this is a fun one!! i think i considered being swordtold at first, for that very ancient myth vibe of the sword being this narrative tool for adventure and structure and physical time, the parable being passed down through the centuries until it meddles into modern day rhetoric and ideology – a kind of fantastical tool, a spark of magic, of possibility.
i like the arc of the story of a place being physical / having it be held by time and hand alike, wearing with the years and having it become something different to each holder, each reader, each experience fantastical and individual.
having that kind of physicality to it; swordheld is the action of taking up and holding the sword yourself, choosing your own narrative, leading your own story. self-identity has always been something i struggle with (a novel concept i know, i know), so it felt right for this blog, since most of my older blogs before this one have been just me silently reblogging and never really posting anything myself, and i wanted this to be the change to that.
i've always had trouble wranging my social anxiety, esp. on the internet, and previously thought that keeping my words to myself helped keep the timeline cleaner, in a way, no messy thoughts for others to sort through, especially ones i believed no one would want to read anyway? but it never felt right, keeping myself apart from it all, esp. not in the way i so avidly enjoyed reading others' posts and additions, keeping their words close to my heart.
i wanted it to reflect that this was a space i was holding for myself? and i'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but this - this i think i got right. i love being here, on this blog, and the joy that it brings me. everyone else enjoying it too has been a wild ride that i never expected, and still surprises me, one that brings a little extra thrill to my heart whenever i think about it.
i had other urls that i liked, but i didn't want this blog to be tied directly to any of my fandom/story interests, since i wanted it to really just be a sort of archive of artistic inspiration and resource, like a little library or museum. i use them now as lil sideblogs of more niche interests now, which is rather lovely.
it hasn't always felt like it fit perfectly, the way that i'd like, but for some reason i can't think of really wanting to change it anytime soon. it feels mythic yet modern in a way that feels like puzzle pieces finally slotting into their place, something my own and inspirational to me, like a lantern i'm holding to make my way by. my own kind of light, if that makes sense – a star i know by name.

hi! yes my mum is an anglican vicar, correct. i wanted to answer you in detail because i’m Like That so i’ll put the full answer under a cut lol
the second part of your question is easy so i’ll start with that: if you don’t support the monarchy then you don’t have to be anglican! join another denomination like the free church or the methodists or whatever (saying that my aunt and uncle are both elders in the methodist church and they’re more into the queen than my anglican mother lol but that’s purely anecdotal)
as for the first part: there isn’t really much mandatory stuff all churches have to do (though there are certain expectations) so what i’m about to say may only apply to my mum’s church!
on thursday/friday her church runs a cafe which was still open, but they offered a quiet prayer space and the staff all dressed smartly/in black which i thought was a bit much but. eh. the church was open for prayers/reflection yesterday which they wouldn’t usually do (mainly bc saturdays are supposed to be my mum’s day off!)
the main thing is the liturgy - i.e. the words that you say during the service. some anglican churches don’t use liturgy at all, some (like my mum’s) only use it for services like communion, and some use it every week. this week the liturgy has been altered to add in some extra prayers and reflections on the queen. coincidentally this week is communion at my mum’s church so they’re going to use the prescribed liturgy. i don’t think you absolutely have to use it, but… expectations i guess.
mum called the person who’s preaching today, and he’s hopefully adapted his sermon accordingly. i believe they’re in the book of ephesians at the moment so… dunno if there’s anything in there that suits the occasion… similarly the person doing the intercessions (prayers) will adapt what they’re going to say. i think they’re going to have a minute’s silence too, and the people on the ministry team will all be dressed more formally than usual, wearing black and the like.
(my mum was slightly disgruntled about this. clergy shirts are notoriously boring - usually they come in black, white, and maybe light and dark blue. mum’s church doesn’t do robes so she’s made it a point to wear very vibrant patterned clergy shirts. one of her congregation actually sews them for her which is cool but it means the only black shirt mum has has red cherries on it.) ((feel like i should say that when she does funerals it’s usually at the crematorium where she wears robes so she doesn’t have to think about her clergy shirts lol she doesn’t turn up to funerals in bright colours unless asked))
one thing i found funny was that the church of england sent a photo of the queen that they wanted vicars to put up in their churches? according to my mum the quality was terrible and her printer wasn’t working and the size was weird and she didn’t have a black photo frame to put it in so i get the impression that she wasn’t happy about that, but hey. she also updated her church’s social media with an rip queen header photo and she shared whatever the archbishop of canterbury posted. again, apparently the dimensions of the header photo weren’t right so she had to mess around with it for a bit like… the queen’s death wasn’t a surprise so u would think that they’d have one ready to go?
she also changed some of the hymns/songs for somber vibes. they were going to sing amazing grace anyway, but mum added in the extra verse that people don’t usually sing (“yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail / and mortal life shall cease / i shall possess, within the veil / a life of joy and peace” - fitting for obvious reasons) (and before you ask yes i did point out the irony of an abolitionist hymn being sung on behalf of the royal family).
other than that i don’t think much has changed? mum spent most of the weekend phoning people to get a sense of how much they should be doing for the queen so it sounds like a lot of it has been left to individual clergy discretion - which i found surprising tbh?
of course some churches will do a full-on formal eucharist with all the bells and whistles, and some won’t. i assume churches that use robes will have the vicar donning a black stole rather than… whatever colour stole they should be wearing this week (green i think?). it depends on the style of the individual church - my mum’s is pretty informal in worship style so if i were a congregation member i wouldn’t go in expecting much. if i worshipped at like… i dunno keeble college chapel i would expect something different. but that’s true of every other sunday because as we all know, the church of england is anything but united lmao.

yeah, of course!!
basically what had happened is margaret and phillip came to visit buck unexpectedly, and they did that typical margaret and phillip buckley thing where they made buck feel terrible about his choices and who he is as a person, which buck could normally handle, but they specifically made buck feel terrible about his relationship with eddie. not even in a homophobic way (which buck, once he remembers what happened, says he would have preferred; his relationship with eddie being "wrong", he at least knew that wasn't true) but rather they told him he was holding eddie (and by extension chris) back in such a volatile way that there is no way the relationship wouldn't end with buck ruining it.
so, buck, in typical buck fashion, decided the best thing to do was end things so that he couldn't ruin it in a spectacular fashion. his thought process was like, let me get out now so i can't make a mess of things later. except the day buck decided to break up with eddie, eddie was also planning to propose. cue a terrible evening where eddie proposes and buck says no. eddie at first takes it as "no, not yet", but when buck breaks up with him fully, it becomes clear it's a "no, not at all."
then, in typical buck and eddie fashion, they don't talk about it at ALL. so it's ages of awkwardness and tension, and then eddie meets and starts going out with isaac, and it gets even worse for buck who didn't actually want to break up in the first place despite the fact he did it. i also think i was planning on making it a 5b au where eddie was a dispatcher, so i believe i had eddie leave the 118 like he did in 5a, except this time, it was equally to do with buck as it was to do with chris.
after that, it's the accident, and then the events listed in the outline!

the post you reposted about putting limits on transgressions interested me a bit, where do you think the line is drawn between progressive transgression vs. regressive transgression (think nazi imagery, 4chan 'memes', racist/homo/transphobic/misogynistic 'jokes' in the name of free speech etc etc) or do you believe these are also necessary evils to protect the purpose of transgression? would this not also count as letting your personal beliefs get in the way of what is and isnt transgression? hello! i think the point is that the line isn’t so much a line as it is a person’s own decision on what they consider progressive vs regressive
an example my mind immediately goes to is the movie american history x, a film that focuses on the life of a white supremacist and that shows extremely upsetting imagery and narratives that is used by a lot of different groups for a lot of different things. some ppl will tell you the movie is about the awful shit nazis do and the fucked up and evil reality of white supremacy. nazis will tell u it’s a great rendition of why white supremacy is “so important”
for me, the point of that post is to focus on nuance. another example is like, cannibalism & incest. i’m v clearly pro cannibalism. i don’t hide that. it’s a subject im deeply enamored with and know full well is upsetting to a lot of people. in the same vein, i can’t handle themes of incest 9.5 times out of 10. it’s very upsetting to me personally and is not something i can often stomach as a motif or what have you. but i can also recognize its nuance and narrative use in certain medias
i think to an extent i do believe in a necessary evil. i think there’s a level of common sense that needs to be present, but i guess that ties back into the “person-to-person” point i mentioned earlier. my definition of common sense isn’t going to be the same as yours. i think for me, it’s a “take it with a grain of salt” mindset with a “protect your peace” underlining
there’s a middle ground of allow yourself to be uncomfortable, but don’t just throw out your moral standings for the sake of satire/motifs/nuance/transgression, whatever word u wanna apply to it

The webheads are really interesting to me because of the niche they occupy as a product- in my opinion, their actual function and the way they're marketed (pun-heavy, quite old fashioned copy) would appeal more to older people, and yet their entire concept is based around something that would probably be patronized more by the young. Do you think the doll line might have been more sucesssful if they leant more into one of these markets? Obviously the former would be difficult considering the "web" aspect of the product, but it's interesting to think about. I can kinda see them as a novelty plush akin to neopets, you know?
No absolutely, and I think it’s really related to the time they came out and how the internet was viewed. There’s some press releases/interview type things I’ve found on the site I plan to post, but I think you’re right ab the market. They were meant for office workers and to jump on the rise in computers being owned by people, but came at a time when the usage of the internet n computers as a whole was not understood how it is now, it was only starting, and there was no way for them to fully expect what it would become. I think they definitely ended up in a limbo as you said, as adults usually aren’t as into cute plush gimmick products, but picture frames being a main piece of the webheads also wouldn’t really appeal to kids. I think maybe if they’d pitched them mainly as funny internet-themed dolls for kid play, like neo pets like you said, that could double as sitting frames, it maybe could’ve been more successful. A kind of “for the kids but can be for the parents too” type thing, maybe incorporating online games or activities.
It feels like a line of toys that came out in the perfectly liminal time to be forgotten. They were trying to capitalize on something they couldn’t conceptualize and as a result who it was pitched to was messy and unclear, and they came out when the internet was still getting its footing and as such documenting and history of a lot of stuff was lost.
It almost reminds me of how animation has developed in the western sphere, how people at the start of its rise didn’t see it becoming something seen as a “kid” thing, but that’s what it became, and in the process of that change a lot of movies ended up missing the sweet spot of where society was, and that seems like webheads to me. Close but no cigar, just off the mark enough to not fully appeal to people and not make a lasting impression.

of course, anon ! and sure, immortality would be okay with me. as for invulnerability, i prefer if muns were to keep that open ended, you know ? for instance to simply say that they are invulnerable as far as they / cain industries knows, or however you'd like to phrase it ! just because i do have some plot drops planned in which i'd like to maximize everyone's involvement. and to point to the boys as an example, translucent was a character that was believed to be practically invincible, yet frenchie found a way ! so just keep that in mind.
and yes, like a character similar to stormfront. i just want to make it clear that we won't be allowing any character that displays or displayed any sort or racist, anti - semitic, homophobic, etc., type behavior.

Vox is ahead of Alastor in terms of effective in-the-moment conflict resolution, but goddamn if he isn't fucked up in his own fun little ways. They're so not done with most of these issues, but at least they're on they're way to maybe be able to have a real conversation about them!

As a sucker for medical gore and aroace angst, I lack the words to express my love and appreciation for your most recent installment of 666, but your writing of radiostatic's dynamic was captivating and proved to be such a lovely read as always! I loved that you touched on Alastor's relationships with the women around him as that has always been such an interesting aspect of his character to me! I never really put much thought into how Vox's apparent avoidance of Alastor in the show could mirror Alastor's disappearance, and now it will Not leave my mind.

Honestly, this series has ended up a lot more edgy-bloody than I expected it to, since I usually tend to prefer to portray my whump/angst/violence/etc in a much more roundabout way, but it's actually kinda tipped over into, like... part of the point is how banal it is, how beside the point. The upsetting heavy-hitting bits aren't the blood, they're everything else that goes on around it. Meanwhile alastor, completely convinced that there’s no situation where vox actually loves him and is happy with the way things are—either vox wants more and is going to start asking for more, or he doesn’t actually love him and just wants to have sex with him and thus either way he is a Liar. They’re so fucking bad at this. No one is capable of being the adult here. I think they need an auspitice.
It's really funny that you said that, because that is kind of exactly the role that [spoiler] ends up playing, though in a more roundabout way, hahaha. They certainly need someone to, like, get them to be having the same conversation with each other instead of two parallel ones. I think the fun thing about writing Alastor reacting to his own feelings is just how much his reaction can change based on how things are framed for him, and it leaves a lot of wiggle room for how differently I've ended up writing him reacting to the season 1 finale in 666 vs in Happily Ever After, and Other Shit Nepotism Can't Buy.
But, god, you really nailed the description of what Alastor is feeling. <3
Vox in the latest 666, my ENTIRE HEART. Literally nothing about how he read the situation was a bad take or a leap to conclusions, but alastor constantly says the opposite of what he means and refuses to admit vulnerability or friendship and what the hell else was vox meant to do with that, of course he backed off, they need to have this talk so badly
YES, PRECISELY! Like, I hope it came through that really neither of them was completely crazy to react the way they did! It's a result of how much of their communication has been nonverbal, implied, and talking around things - they'd been doing so well up until this point, but there's only so far that can take you before you start thinking that you're on the same page when really you're reading two completely different books! Probably one of my favorite lines to write, ehehehe. THANK YOU ANONNNN <3 It's kinda interesting to see how differently some people read this. Some folks thought Alastor was saying it to hurt Vox (which is how Vox read it). Some folks thought it was true (how Alastor intended it). Some folks thought Alastor was trying to fit into the mold that he thought Vox wanted from him (how I intended it). All of them make sense as readings! >:)

hey, so a lil help is required... got any tips for making a comic? if you can't help me with that, how do you keep drawing after you draw one thing. (lol, HELP ME)
I've answered what my own comic development has been like before, in some older asks. (And some other ones that are lost forever in my blog q-q)
Regarding my own tips for comic making? Hmmm...
My main take away would be to have FUN!! Your enjoyment drives the story forward. It is important, not just for the comic, but for YOU the artist! :D
don't stress too much over a comic's quality or quantity :) your art is not a fast food truck <3 And your friends will like it anyways
I recommend starting on small ideas you have! You could make some doodles before you actually start making a comic. This may help you feel more attached and/or interested in the story :) It could even flesh out stuff you didn't think about previously!
Having trouble drawing so often? Draw "one-shots"! This can include small snippets of major events you want to see in your story!
Don't be afraid to tell your ideas to ur friends! Ppl will love hearing creative ideas
Thats some tips i've found that really help me. I hope you enjoy the art of creation ;)

From the first day of your studies in the same class with Dee, you were considered very unusual due to the fact that you were born and lived in Spain for a long time. You tried to be polite and not be rude to your new classmates, but every time they annoyed you a lot, you talked about it in Spanish. There was still a sweet smile on your lips, but only Dee knew exactly what you were saying. When he laughed softly after your next sentence in Spanish, you realized that he understood what you were saying. That's what brought you closer together. You communicated in Spanish, getting to know each other better and better, eventually becoming a couple. Dee thought he really got to know you well, but even then you were able to surprise him
As it turned out, you really loved cute nicknames in your native language. You often called him "mi vida", "mi amor" or other cute words. None of your classmates understood exactly what you said and why Dee reacted like that, but he perfectly understood every word you said. He didn't say anything against it, because even though he was embarrassed, he liked it when you called him so warmly and tenderly. As if these nicknames were your shared secret
When Dee's parents invited you to dinner, he wasn't sure if it was a good idea. Initially, he was worried because it was the first time he would bring a girl home, but it wasn't until you came to his house that he realized he had another problem. His father, like him, knew Spanish. Dee really hoped that you wouldn't call him cute nicknames during dinner, but his hopes were dashed pretty quickly
Throughout the dinner, his face was constantly blushing due to the fact that you once again called him a cute nickname and his father's smile seemed to be getting wider. Dee knew that his father would remember this for a long time, but he decided not to think about it yet. Right now, he just wanted to have a good time with his family and girlfriend without worrying about what would happen later
Even though Dee didn't talk about it, he really liked it when you called him cute nicknames. It seemed to make you even closer than you were. Sometimes he would respond in kind, causing an embarrassed blush on your cheeks and a gentle smile on your lips. At such moments, he was really glad that he knew Spanish

Hello, I’ve been looking at ur page a bit bc I suspect that I might be autistic. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, and I don’t think it was a misdiagnosis, but I struggle w/ social interactions to the point of anxiety, obsess over stuff for years, have mild audio-sensory issues, have consuming emotions, etc. I just wanted to maybe get perspective by sending you an ask.
The biggest questions I have are, if autism is a such a vast spectrum, do my symptoms ‘count’ and what makes them ‘count?’ (Sorry if this is potentially insensitive, idk how else to phrase it)
I often think I’m seeing things that aren’t there. Like I find myself sometimes heavily relating to autistic experiences I read and then sometimes totally not. I feel like I’m not ‘autistic enough’ or that it’s just ADHD. I’ve taken a few online tests, most of the time it comes back as ‘moderate’ or probable, especially on quizzes geared towards masking like the CAT-Q.
I hope this ask is well placed, sorry if it’s kinda vent-ish and long. I think what you’re doing with your blog is wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to read this, hope you have a good day/evening :)
