okay like when you rewatch playthroughs of danganronpa v3 or replay it... u just... appreciate more of the characters??? ik my ass talking as if i rewatched playthroughs more than 5 damn times or replayed it more than 5 d a m n t i m e s but....

im watching jay's playthrough of danganronpa v3. just bc i kinda miss danganronpa, especially v3 <3.

i felt netrual when it came to kaede. i felt as if her character was too generic (( but even so i felt her being the protagonist in the beginning was good )). the traits that stand out, especially her optimistic, cherry attitude, matched up to a lot of typical protagonists in media so it felt reasonable for me to see her as generic. i still think its reasonable, but i've like appreciated her character a little more. i realized how much she somehow stood out, even stood out when it came to the energetic and cherry attitude characters.

she has her wise moments- her advice can be so helpful.. she sure, doesn't know when to calm down for the sake of other's but she's desperate to see the success of people being happy. she's always been put in a role of bringing people happiness, satisfaction, and those negative feelings of low self-esteem and self-doubt more-so comes around when she's realized people's happiness and satisfaction isn't there. and even with her gentle nature she can be blunt and straight forward (and pretty pissed too) like... how the fuck i missed her telling ppl to "shut up" like about 2 times or more??? she's definitely the protagonist we needed!! and for fuck's sake i rlly rlly like her

and now bc of my view of her leveling up positively, i've got a new likeness towards the ship saimatsu (and i feel a lil more fascinated in kokichi's and kaede's ship and dynamic) and ngl my ass kinda wondering what her and kaito's dynamic would've been like later in the games.

and oh himiko himiko HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THAT YOU WERE BULLIED IN THE PAST???? okay like i had already felt some appreciation towards her character once i realized that she probably has depression in later chapters, especially since some of her issues aligned with those with depression (escapism, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, refusing to express emotions) (saying this as someone who's got it) (but i am aware those things can align with other mental illnesses or disorders other than depression) . she's pretty fragile and seems to fixate on things quickly. she noted something about her magic making other people happy. i suspected that due to the bullying, she might've not felt that her presence didn't make people happy, and once she discovered magic - something she has joy in - made people actually happy, she got so caught up in it and basically worships magic while escapes with it.

her character feels kinda tragic honestly, we never rlly see her go away from her attitude of her magic tricks being real which is an attitude from escapism. last time i remembered, her talking about magic being real was less than the beginning but still prominent. its not easy to escape from fantasy, not easy to let go of fixations, especially ones that comfort you and is the only thing that gave her happiness. but even if she wouldn't have completely let go of her fantasies, i wish there was an attempts of her trying to break out of it. this is more-so i believe her guarding her emotions from the world, her obsession with magic encouraged more of that behavior; and thus i believed if she were to express more of her emotions, her "magic is real" attitude would slowly disappear in sync.

so yeah i like himiko more <3. im so disappointed i missed the potential of her development that she yes, kinda has, but her development never rlly hit... as much as it needed to imo. and ig its bc of the magic attitude. im disappointed that i missed more of her character... i've always felt like her character was misunderstood but now i feel that even more-- but maybe she isn't that misunderstood bc i do certainly suspect that the creators didn't even think that much into possible depression symptoms and the origins of her fixation with magic, and how that fixation could've aligned with her closing herself off.

and like omgg kirumi and korekiyo's interaction in her lab was wholesomeee :) and YESS i appreciate kirumi's character so much more like. and i now recognize more of the potential when it comes to both of their dynamic <3. love you mommyyyy

and like OMGGG i didn't realize how fucking.... cryptic rantaro can be. its a little scary honestly. i was like BOY TF at one point bc of his cryptic lines like. if he said that he was going to murder someone to me i would be like yes daddy ily but then by the time he's stabbing someone's back i would be like "WAIT A MINUTE WHAT DID U SAYYYY???" like thats how hot he is (IM BEING DRAMAMTIC OKAY OKAY???). and its like that he SEEM like, an average calm weed smoker at first and sometimes its like you don't notice the cryptic and eerie his lines at first. but its strange too but some of the stranger-danger dialogue can stand out soooo much bc of him seeming so collected and calm.

ain't gonna lie i didn't realize how pretty smart he can be. and well, observant too. yeah and let's all be honestly, he's fucking stressed. he reminds me of a depressed anxious traumatized overthinker that's always like ":)" while joking about dying or some shit.

that's fucking it. like yeah thats it lmao. P.S i STILL LOVE ryoma <3. hes bae and hes tragic. my wrists r tired and im HUNGRY ramble is over. rant is over.

Ok so I was watching a danganronpa animatic of an AU where Kokichi and Shuichi are soulmates and of course my brain goes on to think about the themes of trust and love that Kokichi and MAKOTO have (for some reason. I love my boy too much I guess) and was mentally thinking of a scene in some kind of "Makoto is in V3 instead of Shuichi but the events of canon still happened" AU where Kokichi is, y'know, reaching his breaking point where he can't figure out how to stop the killing game and Makoto, y'know, he understands both during this killing game (because he was trying to stop it too or at least keep everyone alive) and all the other previous ones and in private tries to offer him support and tells him how he thinks Kokichi's a good person and he trusts him and loves him (I don't really care in what way this is taken as. Maybe aggressive support?) and Kokichi, of course being at a breaking point and having trust issues, casts him aside kind of angrily because Makoto seems like he trusts people really easily and has probably never felt betrayal like Kokichi had and therefore doesn't believe him when he says all those positive things about him and Makoto SHUTS THAT DOWN HARD. Like he pulls out the determined slightly angry positivity (I don't know if I want to describe it like that but I don't know how else) where it's just like

Makoto is standing tall, his shoulders are tense, and his finger's in Kokichi's face like: Hey, no. I love you and trust you. You don't know anything about me so I will tell you how many times I have been betrayed by friends just because it was convenient and they never or barely gave a half-ass apology. The girl who I thought I could trust to have my back in a situation JUST LIKE THIS WITH THE BEAR AND EVERYTHING tried to set me up for murder. Another girl sacrificed me to find "the truth" on multiple occasions and barely gave me an apology after I was almost starved and had a ton of injuries. I had to try to kill someone because they wouldn't just talk to me instead of attempting to commit mass murder. So when I say I trust and love you I mean it. I may say it often but that doesn't mean I take it lightly. I can't force you to accept those feeling but please do anything but deny or take them lightly. Because I DO love and trust you so much.

Kokichi is fucking BALLING in my head.

Anyway I just wanted to share that since it was on the brain and this is usually my go-to blog for sharing my random DR day dreams and ideas with. Whenever I pop in anyway.

(Sidenote: Protag switch AUs (or even detective switch AUs with Shuichi and Kyoko) between Makoto and Shuichi are so underrated. I don't write fan fiction so I hope and pray everyday that one day I will stumble across one with the quality of the A Change in Variables but that might be wishful thinking)

That's such a cool idea.

Agreed I love all the protags, Makoto just holds a very special place in my heart.

The way I envision what you've said is that Makoto takes the place off Rantaro or at least plays a similar role to him.

As the Ultimate Survivor, aka someone who's survived the game before and remembers.

Possibly going undercover and not letting anyone else go through this shit again.

The reason for him being there to the outside world could be that Tsumugi wanted a guest star.

And you know having the Ultimate Hope would get people watching.

Makoto talking down Kokichi would be such an interesting scene because he'd be one of the only people who don't hate him.

And would be willing to listen and stand up to him.

Also because Makoto knows what he's doing, he can see through Celest I guarantee he can see through Kokichi.

And it would throw Kokichi off because he's designed this whole thing to have everyone against him, he'd got the perfect plan.

But that's Makoto for you, unpredictable is basically his middle name.

Kokichi Ouma is just some guy with pale skin, dark purple hair and purple eyes clad in a white-based uniform paired with a checkered white and black scarf. He's just some guy who is quite disliked among the characters in Danganronpa V3. He's also quite disliked by certain parts of the fandom. He's just kinda disliked in general. Even in his forged back story, he was leading a group of misfits that pull harmless pranks - which becomes one of the reason why he's disliked in the eyes of public.

In other words, he's disliked no matter where he went.

Yet, in the midst of it, we could know that he's also loved because of the same misfits that joined his DICE organisation. In the few pictures he took with them, we could see how they all wear the uniforms proudly.

And for them, I'm thankful that Kokichi at least have a few people to lean on - eventhough we all know he's selfless. Selfless in the way that he had sacrificed himself to beat the killing game.

What? You're gonna say he did that just to win and beat the killing game?

Well, isn't beating the killing game what everyone wants? Sure, his ways of doing things are disliked since he lies all the time, but who wouldn't when you have no one you could actually trust? He would want to make sure the mastermind does not catch up to his plans.

Kokichi Ouma, who lies all the time, jokingly worded things to piss people off all the time, has a big fear - fear of being boring. He hated being boring the most, since he hated boredom very much. Just not as much as Junko Enoshima who caused despair just to feel something and make things 'interesting'.

Perhaps it's because he got used to associating pissed and crossed expressions with his harmless questionably-funny pranks since he had been pulling pranks with his organisation (read: found family) for the longest time, he chose to lie and anger people because for him, that is what it means to not be boring. To be 'funny'.

The Ultimate Supreme Leader, although gives off the vibe of being just a pure menace, he is also smart; smart in the way he noticed peculiar things earlier than anyone else. He noted how it's weird to have an Ultimate Robot, when no one else bothered to care. And many other things, did he notice. But because he lies all the time, he didn't even care to share his findings with anyone else. After all, who can anyone exactly trust in a killing game?

Kokichi is careful despite his carefree facade. He went through every possible outcomes before doing anything. We could see this is proven when he just 'happened to know' how to benefit from him dying in the hands of Kaito Momota.

Trapped in a killing game, where he could trust no one, Kokichi relied on him and only himself. He tried approaching Shuichi Saihara, but he knew his efforts would be futile because he had personally engraved into everyone's head that he's a liar and an instigator - someone to not be trusted.

Perhaps, he had known that he would ended up alone all along - especially after Shuichi had implied so in his words when the Ultimate Supreme Leader tried to get in between Shuichi and Kaito.

After facing such rejection, Kokichi strengthened his resolve, and proceeded how he had planned.

Maybe, in his last dying breaths, as he laid down on the hydraulic press, he wondered if things would've been different had he been able to convince Shuichi to help him in his plans to beat the game.

No one would care if I die anyway.

He knew all along though - that he would be by himself even till the end as the hydraulic press descended on him.

In the end, he left while still being misunderstood. Even as he smiled a little bit, closed his eyes, and wished the best for his friends.

And for the person he fell for.

Kokichi Ouma is used to have one-sided feelings anyway.

He told himself that it didn't hurt.

Ah...

If the 10 people who had willingly joined my organization were real...

I wished I could've met them before dying.

Sexuality Headcanon:

Now, see, starting off with a kinda hard one... Taka's an interesting bean in what I calculate his sexuality to be. Most people assume Gay since... ya know. And while I don't think that's necessarily a bad take, its the popular take. And I am one who tends to shy away from popular takes. (I am also one to vehemently project onto the characters I love). Hence, I HC Taka as Demiromantic! (and demisexual to an extent...)

Forms strong emotional bonds with people close to him? Check. Only ever seems to fall romantically for those he is extremely close with??? DOuble check babeyyy!

Gender Headcanon:

Aaaand now its simple. Taka's a male. Cut and dry. Rather fondly a guy, I must say. He strikes me as the kinda guy who would be so excited to share with you that he uses he/him pronouns! He probably did some soul searching when he first learned of transitioning and other gender orientations only to find he was rather comfortable and happy where he was. (you know he spent hours studying to learn all he could) and would be all for helping others explore their gender too!

I know a lot of people hc him and mondo both as trans, but personally I think hes just very proud of his manliness.

A ship I have with said character:

I couullddd go the easy route and say Ishimondo... But you all already know that. Instead I'm going to go with a more... scandalous... ship.

Its KiyoKiyo. Korekiyo and Kiyotaka. Its my guilty pleasure ship.

Now, granted, I imagine this as a Korekiyo who has shaken himself of his 'sister's' grasp and is "normal" (Ie LOTS of therapy), so its more like the shy introvert getting dragged along by the loud golden retriever boy but I digress. Its sweet to me. Tall lanky and smol but strong.

A NOTP I have with said character:

There are so many... who do I begin with... Genuinely who do I begin with. Alr I hardly see this one in the wild but Kokichi and Kiyotaka I despise. Either that's just because I hate kokichi but-- BESIDES THE POINT. Hiro and Taka is another one I don't particularly like.

I get where it comes from, the few times they interract in the canon could be seen as brotherly (I GUESS) from Hiro's standpoint but-- Idk it just kinda rubs me the wrong way. Hiro's character in general does that...

A Random Headcanon:

Taka enjoys, and is really good at boxing. (Or wrestling) Like how some stories I've read put him on the football (soccer for us americans) team (or rugby ig idk.) I have a (self-inflicted) HC that Taka has slight anger issues hes still recovering from as a child and ABSOLUTELY uses the environment of controlled violence as a way to work off pent up steam. Any sport could do that really, but the inherent homoeroticism of wrestling is just *mwah* too good to pass up.

I know people like to HC he's into some kind of martial arts lessons for the same kind of vibe, and the art of him and Peko, but I find the inante physicality of using yer fists and body as a much more... *Taka Centric* activity. Idk.

Its the same reason he really enjoys thrill rides like rollercoasters and horror movies (if he can stand to not postulate the entire plot the whole time, ruining climactic moments and making people shush him.)

Curious: what are your general thoughts on the mainline Danganronpa games (Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, Ultra Despair Girls, Killing Harmony)? Like which one’s your favorite/least favorite, etc?

Ooh fun!! I do have lots of thoughts. I guess I’ll do them in order of fave to least fave. Under a readmore because I had too much to say

SDR2 - BRILLIANT, absolute pinnacle. I think the main reason sdr2 works so well is that it understands most players will be returning from THH so it ramps the tension up to 11 right from the get go by revealing that everyone has lost memories straight away. Most of the murders are really cool, trial 5 is the best one in the series, obvz. The island setting is nice too, it’s very different from the first game but not in a way that is too jarring. Oh and the cast is the best I think. Obviously I have issues with Hanamura but they have the sense to kill him straight away so no biggie. My only other character issue is that I really wish they did more with Owari, she’s kind of nothing and that’s sad. Also tragic that Saionji didn’t get her character arc :(( OH AN TSUMIKI NEEDS TO NOT FALL OVER SO MUCH THATS STUPID

Komaeda is there and he is the most interesting and coolest character ever. +100000000 points

UDG: okay okay, controversial for me to put it so high I KNOW. It’s got so so so many problems and yet….it compels me. I love Komaru, she is my favourite protag and I always liked Fukawa, so it’s nice to see her sort of come into her own and get to be a bit of a hero. UM THE MUSIC IS THE BEST. I like when it goes YEAH YEAH YEAH. I also actually really like the setting of Towa city? It’s cool to see the effects the tragedy had on the world as a whole, and it’s fun to explore. Gameplay is messy, but I don’t hate it, I have played much worse.

I had a lot of issues with the warriors of Hope in general and do wish they stuck with the initial plan of having the remnants of despair be the boss fights. Sigggghhhhhh, so upset that it was taken from us. That would have been the COOLEST.

Wish the tickle machine wasn’t in it. Wish the pedophile was dead. Wish Kotoko didn’t fall down so much. Wish Fukawa toned it down with the incest jokes.

I need servant carnally.

THH: THE OG MY BELOVED. I have a lot lot lot of nostalgia for this one, it’s very soft to me, I feel like I grew up in hopes peak lol. For serious though, Hopes peak is a cool af setting, it’s such a weird school and the art direction is absolutely stunning. I mentioned in a previous ask that it’s probably a bit too slow going, but it’s fair because this really was the first game of its kind and they have to tell you how to play it.

The reACT mechanic is funny and useless. I am glad they got rid of it, but it makes me laugh when I see it.

I love all the characters, they are like children to me. I even like Yamada, it’s the truth. I think they majority of characters are more toned down in this game, which is to its benefit I would say. Some characters in later games are a Bit Much.

I also like all the motives! They actually make sense??? And it’s the only game where Monokuma doesn’t cheat with a, “kill before arbitrary time limit or everyone dies” which is the worst motive and I hate it.

The Fujisaki problem is very present, unfortunately. I still don’t think they were meaning to be offensive anyway, but ya know. I’m pretty chill with any interpretation, but I usually consider them a transwoman

V3 : Hm. I do not like. The school is very very big and so easy to get lost in, where the first two games feel very distinct and easily navigable. It’s also not much different than Hope’s Peak, which is a little boring.

I want to punt the Monokubs into a volcano. V3 feels even slower and longer than THH and I blame them. They talk so much and so often and it never progresses anything and UGH.

I’m iffy on way more characters. Like I mentioned before they can be a Bit Much. I’m meaning your Tenkos and Mius. They have One thing, and that’s all they do and are, which is uninteresting and ANNOYING. It feels like so many of them have been boiled down to one trait, even characters I like such as Tsumugi and Himiko are like that, but their trait is less loud so it doesn’t annoy me so much.

Motives are stupid and dumb almost always. Hate them. Fucking necronomicon makes me want to chew glass.

The protag switch is cool. I like it, but I miss Kaede every single day.

The ending I do not like. It would be a whole five more paragraphs for me to explain my issues in full, but it sort of betrays it’s own messaging and renders the rest of the game meaningless (at least in my opinion)

Cospox makes me want to die

The music and UI are very good though!!

...You will live to regret what you have just unleashed. Not only are you asking about terrible built up brainrot, you are also asking about my second favourite in the rewrite.

(P.S I am working off the movie and Make Your Mark here since my little sister refuses to watch Tell Your Tale and doesn't know about the comics and can barely even read, and I only watch MLP with her)

Anyways, LONG ANSWER INCOMING.

Before beginning with Zipp, I need to fix up some wordbuilding so bear with me!!

I won't go into full detail because that needs its own post but I will go basic overview of Maretime Bay, Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood.

So, in the movie Izzy mentions how unicorns thought all Earth Ponies were dumb asf. And we also saw Canterlogic tech to counter that.

Well, in my rewrite, earth ponies (being extremely paranoid about unicorns and pegasi and having no magic ever) advanced themselves and made a lot of technology basically to combat them. Eventually, the became the most advanced of the ponykinds, and they are the only place with WiFi and stuff (if I am forced to keep it).

For Bridlewood, I will lean HEAVILY into the superstitious stuff. I imagine unicorns will fall into stories about magic being evil and start living with nature and not really advance much due to the amount of fear generated by them losing the main thing that helped them everyday.

Now: Zephyr Heights. I don't like that it is in the clouds. I barely remember G4 (I was a little kid when it came out and I won't rewatch it). However, I remember vaguely that pegasi had a special type of magic that allowed them to walk on clouds and live on them.

Since G5 is a direct sequel where they have no magic- that literally wouldn't make any sense. Instead, they will live on the mountain in the movie and somewhat adapt to it.

And for how it is I want it to be a 70s and early 2000s mashup, because I think that would be cool (seriously no other reason sometimes you gotta pick aesthetics over logic, that or lean heavy into medieval royalty shit. nothing is set completely in stone with the worldbuilding)

Still sorta figuring out how the "only royals can fly" lie stuff will work out but whatever.

Anyway, ZEPHYRINA!! I love her omg.

-> Her Role as A Princess:

Definitely hates it. Not to borrow too much from Dash, but she is definitely a free spirit. Unlike her mother and sister, she doesn't like the spotlight and doesn't make many public appearancs, so the kingdom views her as a mysterious enigma, and she is the subject of MANY conspiracy theories (which are amped up to 1000 after their lie is exposed and the whole thing about working with other ponykinds to restore magic comes up).

She definitely reads all the conspiracies about her, out of pure curiosity and to see how accurate they are.

I sadly don't have this part fully fleshed out as I am conflicted between having her family permanently dethroned or not (on one hand, great drama. On the other, it wouldn't feel right not having Pipp as a princess) so moving on-

I am so excited to talk about this!! (I am an Ace attorney, Danganronpa, Detective Conan and Ahmed Khalid Tawfik fan, of course I am excited abt mystery)

[Pre-Make Your Mark/Movie]:

You know how Izzy got Sunny's lantern and that's why she went to Maretime Bay? Well, why the fuck doesn't Zipp get one too?

Basically, after Izzy recieves the lantern, she is beyond excited to have new pony friends! So, she makes her own lantern with its own letter and sends it off.

Only this letter reaches Zipp, who was sneaking out of the palace trying to practice a way to fly.

And that one letter leaves Zipp confused. She was sheltered her whole life thinking unicorns and earth ponies were evil and wanted to kill the pegasi and she was skeptical of the letter, even as a child.

She hid it away and would reread it every once in a while, thinking over the message inside about how she had friends in Bridlewood. She was sheltered and kept inside the Palace almost her whole life, she didn't really have any friends. The letter made her feel less lonely, somehow.

That tapped into her ever-growing curiosity and she wanted to research more about unicorns.

So Zipp would spend hours in the Royal library (which will definitely be bigger in my rewrite) digging up old books on Equestria before losing magic (since most newer ones were about her pegasi ancestors exclusively). Her main objectives were to find out more about the other ponykinds and to find a way to restore the pegasi's ability to fly and return to living on the clouds.

She would also stare at old murals and statues at stuff, analysing the shit out of them.

That's why she wouldn't be very scared of Sunny and Izzy when they wind up in Zephyr Heights (I am planning to keep the movie's general plot similar).

I wanna avoid spoiling too much of the movie and the series' plots and we're moving to "still unsure of this/planning" territory.

So we're gonna do this part with bullet points

Zipp definitely gets a design shift between the movie and make your mark. I am still planning out both of the designs (mainly as gijnkas cuz I can't draw horses)

Zipp and Misty's relationship will probably be the most fleshed out. They had so much potential. Zipp starts out being skeptical, starts trusting Misty a bit after realizing she's just awkward, they have a few heart-to-hearts, they become really close, then BAM! The reveal happens and Zipp is just feels absolutely betrayed and stupid and maybe cries a bit. And afterwards they start repairing their relationship bit by bit, but it takes a while since Zipp isn't really willing to go back to being close friends again.

I want Zipp to develop a stronger friendship with Sunny and Izzy, since they were both technically the reason she started breaking away from the prejudice against other ponies ingrained into her as a kid and made her feel less lonely. Zipp and Sunny could easily bond over research about Twilight and the old Mane Six and cross reference eachother.

For Zipp and Izzy, I imagine that Zipp would generally be very stressed all the time, and Izzy would always try to get her to relax a bit (and maybe get her to do craft projects with her). They just kinda hang out, yknow? Idk I just want more platonic fluff.

Pipp and Zipp's relationship- well, you'll see once I start posting about it 😈

Hitch and Zipp will probably have the same relationship in the show and movie, I can't really find any way to improve it, honest.

Anyways, I am so sorry this took so long to answer, nd sorry if the answer isn't satisfying I've just been very busy.

Hopefully I will get to talk more about it soon <3

do you have any playlist or character thoughts for "song to go insane to" by elliotly? it reminds me of some of the relationship dynamics on this blog (particularly shintaro i think???) but i can't put my finger on what

HMMM well its lyrics seem too romantic to me for it to be shinene. others could be shinaya or kanoshin (shintaro always being the one in common💔yeah)

since it's kind of about losing who you are to the love u have for someone else or to the feeling of this person needing you, it does seem like shinene at first thought, but idk. it feels too romantic and it also sounds like the person singing is being protected by their partner? which doesn't fit a lot because ene doesn't necessarily "protect" shintaro, i think she... looks out for him. like there is something there that may fit but the Vibe is different. it's not shinene

not to mention by the end of the song it sounds like the character has done Atrocious Things. to be honest. and dont kill me for this. it reminded me of komahina from danganronpa. SORRY!!!!! SORRY.

anyways i think it fits shintaro and ayaki.

ayano's life is then tied to shintaro's (ok everyone's lives are but this ayano specifically is LIVING as one with shintaro) and the line implying the partner forgets the singer likeeee aughh i love shinyaki's (is that the name?) thing about "I'll wait until you remember me again" like. hehe.

in a lot of ways what keeps ayaki human is her love and that's also why she does everything she does... she was motivated by it and her continued existence comes from that love but she is still "cursed" to never partake in it again because there will be other ayanos to fill the role in the real world and there will be 1 ayano to live what ayaki fights for, it will never be her her.

ayaki is caused by love but she can never be loved back again. except by.... well, shintaro!!!!! and wouldn't it be so much easier for her if shintaro didn't insist to keep treating her as ayano? due to ayano's self hate i think as retaining eyes she insists she is just that, retaining, not ayano anymore. but shintaro doesn't agree with that and she doesn't have many arguments whenever they talk about it. and that's the thing, talking about it. talking. shintaro is her companion, shintaro is sort of.... her now. or rather, she is him. she exists with him for him to save everyone including herself but not exactly herself, another version of herself who is just as twisted and undeserving and girlflop as she is yet she makes it for some reason, while ayaki is cursed to just watch forever.

shintaro signs up for it even though having retaining really is like. the worst of the worst. even after they've won he will be haunted by all the memories

i like these lyrics too like. ayaki not loving that she has to basically torment shintaro but she is just doing her job it just so happens it's awful. and he needs to keep it together and do HIS job so idk. hehe.

all the lyrics from the middle of the song about apparently all of the partners friends worrying and the singer being the source of the problem is something that in this context I'd read as the mekadan being worried about the way shintaro keeps self sabotaging and just making a mess of things post str but it's due to grief and trauma that he's forced to just remember perfectly Because of retaining. idk if all this makes sense anyways i love asks like these

I can’t really think of one? There are no characters I ever really hated necessarily. But I will say the closest to this is Teruteru. I wasn’t really fond of how the writing made him out to be and I wish we got more of that “mama’s boy” because that shit got me to connect so hard….. his voice acting helped too, the screams before his execution actually haunt me no joke

There are four ways Ultimate Survivors Miu and Ouma can end up surviving attacks from classmates:

1. Miu and Ouma can end up snapping them like twigs instead. Ofc they ain't killing them, but to think an Ultimate Florist tried to kill the Ultimate Survivors, even if they didn't know it, feels insulting. These are usually spunky main-character participants who decided killing them would protect the rest of the class, and while that might be true in the context of the story, they don't wanna die, thank you. Easy-peasy, just throw them into a wall.

2. Miu and Ouma come up with a logical reason for why killing them would be fuckin stupid. This is usually reserved for the big boys like the Ultimate Soldiers and Martial Artists, people they can't fight off. These people don't intimidate them at all anymore, sorry. Team DR loves to try engineering an "epic fight" between them and these Ultimates at the cost of throwing the plot out the window. Two minutes of talk usually convinces the participant they're being morons in the context of the story. The story might not be real, but hey, they're tryna stay alive, a little lie is fine.

3. Escape. This is definitely the scenario they're the most alert for, because it implies the attacker is too strong to be subdued and too hellbent to be reasoned with. These are usually attacks from Ultimate Serial Killers or Grenadiers or whatever other edgy criminal combat talent Team DR gave their Resident Very Dangerous Psycho (tm) of the class. These talents are also the ones most likely to be someone's "real" talent, if Team DR decides to do that shtick. Miu and Ouma like to play dead with these guys.

4. Luckily, a witness happens to intervene. The rarest way for an attack to end, but it's definitely a treat when they see it. This is usually what happens sooner or later when a particularly stubborn Assassin or whatever keeps trying to argue with Miu and Ouma's logic. The person is their best friend or love interest, who convinces them not to do it by repeating what Miu and Ouma just said, except this time they listen. It's almost always funny when a witness walks in during a Scenario #1, as morbid as that sounds. They're very grateful to the witness in the event of a Scenario #3 tho.

I went overboard writing this out, but no I don't feel sorry. Anyways. With this info in mind, any headcanons for what they think of V3's cast and how threatening it is? Do they think it's gonna be a rough season, or almost filler with how many of them they'd be able to fold in half?

This made me think a lot about the capabilities of the cast lol

The three biggest physical threats, in their eyes, would be Tenko, Maki, and Gonta. They saw through Maki’s “talent” quickly thanks to all of their experience with “real” talent reveals, and Gonta probably wouldn’t make himself a problem.

Of course, the rest of their “class” would probably be able to come up with traps or other ways to kill them. It would be easier to try flying under the radar, but Team Danganronpa hated when they did that.

Probably the best way to avoid being targeted by others was to keep arguing with each other, and make it seem like they would be most likely to take each other out so nobody else would bother.

That said, though, they still needed to be on their A-games, since there were plenty of intellectual people in this cast. They could probably rely on reasoning with a lot of them, though.

It was an exhausting first few days to parse out all of that information and come up with different plans to stay alive, but hey, it was what they were supposed to be best at. Might as well make that count.

Adding onto your recent meta about the Pregames, one line stuck out to me. Where you said for the pregames that are supposed to be 'real people' they sure feel a lot more like caricatures. I'm really glad you brought up this point, especially considering the Pregames are supposed to represent the Danganronpa fandom, which is us. I feel like the understand the Pregames better, you need to world-build a little bit as to what their 'outside world' is like. It's heavily dubious what Tsumugi said about the outside world being peaceful and non-violet. With how people people were willing to sign away their lives so easily, the pregames feel more like su//c//dal teens that need a fuck ton of therapy. Many people in the 'real' DR fandom (at least from whom I met) have many personal issues that cripple their mental health and make them turn to fiction as a escape from their harsh life. I mean.........who hasn't thought "I wish I could live in that fictional world?" before?

The Pregames are really supposed to represent us, the Danganronpa fandom. So it actually makes me greatly concerned that people would 'self-project' the 'accepted fanon' of Pregame Shuichi being a sadistic yandere, Pregame Kaede being a nihilistic bully, Pregame Kokichi being a uwu femboy cinnamon bun, etc. It really does come to show that people would put shipping characters into a trope rather than using these pregames as their self-projection canvases

And while everyone in the Danganronpa fandom isn't the same, no version of the pregames have to be either. There's many pregame stories on Ao3, which has probably influenced and encouraged the misconceptualizing of the pregames. I understand that none of them have a canon personality, and since Ingame Saimatsu and Saiouma can never happen canonically, people will turn to the pregame AU to make it happen the way they want it. Then again, it is totally okay to write whatever an author wants, but it does take away good character discussion when the Pregames are boiled down to *insert name's* love intersted

Anyways, sorry for rambling. But yeah, here is my two cents about your essay. Great thoughts and I appreciated reading that very much as a pregame V3 enthusiast

But ya I do agree that the pregame characters are supposed to represent us. And deciding the characters' personalities based on tropes and shipping only is really funny when you can just Go Replay The Prologue and see the character is Nothing Like That Trope

Like, in the prologue Kokichi asks reasonable questions very clearly which is very different from uwu stuttering "pwease dont huwt me" fanon pregame Kokichi (Who probably would've been silent tbh). Kaede has a bit of a temper (and so does ingame Kaede) but is still nice to people around her (Shuichi is the obvious one) which. Y'know, if she was the popular bully girl like in fanon she probably would've insulted absolutely everyone without hesitation right? But she doesn't. Yandere Shuichi (Like, unironically) straight up squicks me? Because the way I see it, people decided he's like that because of his audition tape. Like, good job guys, you took a guy ranting about his kinda fucked up interest and decided he's a homicidal maniac who obsesses over Danganronpa and his uwu soft boyfwiend who needs pwotection at all costs. I'm flabbergasted that people don't realize what picture they're painting of themselves, since they're also Danganronpa fans, but aside from that... As someone who also rants abt their interests like that it just. I hate it DJKSANKJDSNFANFDJS

These characters are a lot more similar to their ingame selves than people give them credit for haha

Ahaha! I definitely wouldve guessed you would like Vriska ships, they are all utterly fucked up.

And despite knowing the answer already I like you to decipher more of ishimondo and kiyotaka so can I ask them for ship and blorbo, I'm still afraid I'm overstayed my welcome though-

Nah, if I had places to be I would just delay answering this ask a bit. Instead, I can watch TV and geek out at the same time. I have achieved peak mental stimulation!

Ishimondo quadrant validation is real though. They went from kismesis to moirails literally in one night and nobody knows how it happened. (The common theory is that they fucked, but on school grounds? I doubt it.) Why must it be cringe to use Homestuck quadrants to refer to non Homestuck ships, it saves a lot of time!

One thing I don't think I've seen very many people talk about is the fact that Taka, Our Taka, broke a the nighttime rule to challenge the toughest guy in the school to an endurance competition. That is a canon thing that happened. He's secretly a loose canon and is trying very very very hard to still qualify as lawful good.

I know it's a plot hole that exists to help the pacing of the trial, but I'd argue that blame fell onto Mondo far too quickly. Taka could have easily known about the broken handbook and was in on it. Mondo could have made that slip of the tongue on purpose to protect him. Especially at the end, where he was refusing to believe Mondo did it. A paranoid person would take this as a possible confession of guilt. People with friends in this killing game are a serious threat to the wellbeing of the group, I'm with Togami on that one.

Since a trial isn't timed, they have no reason to play fast and loose with their lives!

Tangent, do you have a headcanon for Taka's secret?

Mine is that he witnessed whatever caused the scandal as a kid (by kid I'm imagining like 5), and choose not to say anything. He didn't really understand what was going on, and he didn't want to make anyone upset!

However, if it ever got out that he knew, he'd look just as corrupt.

One of my favorite Danganronpa fics (it wasn't really heavily Ishimondo, but its so good) had it be that he broke a pretty serious rule, and I like that interpretation too!

This is more about Ch2 in general than Ishimondo, but I feel like the ideal way to solve the motive would be to get pens from the storeroom and scribble your name off of it, then put all of the motives in a pile and read them out loud. Some names are longer than others, but its still better than just confessing your motive. And then it gives a general idea of how many people might be willing to murder.

another possible solution, though less good, is to lie and say that isn't your worst secret, and hope the others play along.

I'm the kind of person that tries to work out what I'd do in any crisis situation I read about in fiction. Its fun!

Back to the ship of all time, there's actually another (even more messed up) version of the same ship in Total Drama, and meta on that ship applies here. (Anyways, if you like Ishimondo you'll like Duncney, since its basically Ishimondo but M/F. Also since its in a kids show nobody dies!)

Taka desperately wants to be seen as a leader, but he lacks any sort of leadership skills. Mondo, who has no desire to lead over the THH group, has the natural leadership skills. People gravitate to him. Chihiro decided to trust him over any other dude in the class, and not one but two people offered to die for him. (I mean, ideally family shouldn't count to that total, but it still takes some charisma.) I mean, sure, Mondo got offered his position due to nepotism, but it takes actual skills to stay the leader.

In a way, Mondo is the natural genius (its hard to prove since we don't know how good he was as a kid) that Taka should despise at the very thing Taka desperately needs to be good at if he wants to meet his goals. They logically should hate each other.

i think the reason i prefer dj being his own person rather than just jin but "corrupted" or an "alternate personality" is that it's a very fascinating story to be told with that. i guess the thing is - the character but corrupted is a story that's told often (see fellow fighting games street fighter and mortal kombat) and Good Guy but with an Unsuspecting Killer alt Personality is also an overused trope. (see twisted metal, elfen lied, danganronpa, etc. etc.)

there are also many stories about being possessed or having a parasite. but what about a story where we get to know the parasite and how it works? rather than just being a practical tool as a "demon" - we get to know it personally. that both the parasite, and the host are two very important parts of the story - not only the host is the character, and the parasite is simply a tool to tell the story of the host. it's fascinating to look at the parasite as another actual living creature. even if it works differently than its host because it's not human.

it also brings up the idea of how two people would behave if they are forced to share a body. it's an unpleasant reality to think that you may never have privacy because there's always someone around. but worse, it's someone you actively hate - who is essentially your enemy. yet at the same time... that person is always there. that means even when you're lonely or upset, you have someone there. therefore, it brings up mixed feelings. perhaps a bit of stockholm syndrome. you hate this person. they hate you. but you're always there for each other, you know each other more than anyone else will ever. enemies who are the closest to each other.

then the 2017 comics also depicted jin and dj very interestingly. instead of doing the whole "dj is just powers jin can't control" like blood vengeance did - it does show dj as different from jin. it shows a relationship that can be toxic and manipulative, but without it being romantic, or even familial. it shows a case how you can get trapped in a toxic relationship without it being any of the aforementioned two subjects. which is a very real, but a bit unique take on it.

like there's just so much here to write about and focus rather than "ohhh what if this person DIDN'T have any morals? well! they have an alt personality for that!" no. i don't think jin would ever be dj - even if he did discard his morals. he wouldn't act like dj even then. imo, they are completely different characters who only share the same body. it's tk5 that may make ppl believe that jin and dj are the same due to dj's monologue in the story mode. however, tk6 and tk7 seems to hammer in the idea that they are separate people. which make more sense than the possible thing tk5 was going with since as i've pointed out before, devil kaz has directly spoke to kaz before, and they've interacted like they were separate people. why wouldn't jin and dj be the same? harada has called dj a "split personality" from jin before - buuuuut. english isn't his native language, and he doesn't speak it much. so it could be that he meant persona / person / character but that bit got lost in translation. (especially as he apparently once tried to come up with a unique name for DJ, but actually went with devil jin because he realized it was a pun, as when the name is pronounced in english, it sounds like Devil Gene - which is what jin suffers with.)

anyways, i just really love this dynamic and find it sooo interesting to write. i love both jin and dj and find them to be compelling characters both in and out of their relationship. and it's why i do write them the way i do! i don't see them as the same, and honestly? i don't think i'll ever. i don't think dj's actions affect jin, and i don't think jin's actions affect dj.

Fandom Saturday, Madoka Magica!

I did it. I finally watched it. And it was awesome.

I like it so much, I binged it again with Deo the next day. XD

One of the things I like most about it is that while the concept of where it's going at the end isn't new, how they go about it and what happens from it is something I've never seen before. The second reason I like it, but also hate it, is now I feel like Krystar is a little less original. Let it be known that my book existed before I watched Madoka Magica. And that's not actually a spoiler for Krystar, fyi. I felt the same way when I met Karma in Assassination Classroom because in many ways, he reminds me of Stag. Homura is basically Deshi, Madoka is the princess, and Kyoko is Stag in this situation.

Anyway, off topic.

The W/W ships are so strong in this anime. I kind of like Sayaka and Kyoko the most in this one. (And the names when considering Danganronpa characters instead is just funny as hell. 😆) Deo's favorite ship is Sayaka and Madoka actually, which I'm kind of surprised he had a ship, but he really liked the anime too and that's impressive.

In case anyone's interested, yes I'm going back to Krystar, I've mentioned to a few that the Fourth Fragment is the darkest. Well, Homura's backstory is basically a one to one equivalent as to why, with one tweak, which I won't spoil.

Needless to say, I really enjoyed it. I wish I had more to say, but I feel like nearly everything is a spoiler if you haven't seen it. I love how the closing changes after the first major… thing happens in episode three. And how until you've seen the whole thing, you don't realize how apt the ending is. It's so apt!

And tbh, I was wondering why no one ever really draws fanart of Kyubei. Now I know why. Huh.

As for my favorite character, I think I like Sayaka. Her character arc is so… dark, and I think that's why I like it. And, you know, if you've been keeping up with my other daily deliveries, I'm sure you already know I'm a big fan of tragedy and unrequited love, so is it really surprising? Deo absolutely hates Kyosuke and thinks she deserves someone so much better. 😆 I didn't hate him, but she does deserve better. Ugh, poor Sayaka. She's Deo's favorite too.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, it's only 12 episodes long and available on Crunchyroll, which I think is only in the US which sucks, but whatever. 🙄 Highly recommend. I will work through the other movies and spin-offs of it later, but it was definitely worth the time to watch. Thanks for joining me on Fandom Saturday!
