Does anyone else feel… bored? Not even necessary on tumblr. But in mbb verse or kpop in general.
Like… monsta x are on tour and i feel like we have so little content (especially here on tumblr)? Which doesn’t make sense.

Kurosawa's language: He uses hyper formal and humble customer service language at all times. I've tried to retain some of it in the translation since it's a running joke and a huge part of his character in this season.
In Japanese rock paper scissors (janken) the winner can hit the loser on the head with a toy hammer and the loser has to guard.
Urusee kuchibiru: Kuchibiru is lips. Urusee can have a million meanings from noisy to annoying to picky to fuck off so it was hard to land on a single translation when the full context of this line isn't yet given.

Your talks about Missa's mischaracterization are exactly why I made a post specifically asking for Missa mains to give me their analyses for me to reference in Awake Me From My Nightmare.
I even went as far as to slap some parts of the post in Google Translate encouraging Spanish qsmp fans to reply to me and I'd just have someone translate their analysis for me. Which I did (thank u Kami ily). And I was so fucking happy when more of my responses came from Spanish speaking fans than English. Peak QSMP moment <3
But anyway yeah. Missa's characterization has been lowkey my biggest concern writing the fic tbh. I wanna do him justice. He definitely isn't written as a pathetic woobified uwu cinnamon roll, that's for sure.
I've been staring very hard at the paragraphs people gave me on his character and I THINK I've been doing a decent job at balancing the "gets overwhelmed by things" wet cat side Crows see AND the "um actually he could kick your ass and can be a bitchy little shit" reality?? Mans is getting lots of moments where he's like "fuck this" and gets ready to Literally Fight God. There's still lots of tears, but like, if YOUR husband was in front of you covered in his own blood and lookin like he's rapidly wasting away in real time, you'd be an emotional wreck too. So I'm decently confident in his characterization, but I still have that "AAAAA I HOPE I'M DOING THIS RIGHT" worry. 100% gonna be clinging to comments from readers about if I did him justice. So far I've characterized everyone (Phil, Fit, Etoiles) super well according to readers. 😭🙏🏻 Hoping I keep up the streak with Missa in Chapter 3.
The discussion you've been having is exactly why I'm doing my best to do him actual justice. And I might actually read back through your posts and translate the Spanish bits just to get even more insight. I don't see enough people talking about qMissa like this.
And on a semi-related note, GOD I wish there were more YouTube clip compilations of Missa moments. Like idec if they're not just qsmp, I want more of them in general!! Idk if I just wasn't searching well enough or what but when I went looking a while back, there were MAYBE 2 videos at all, let alone Eng subtitled so I could understand them. And rooting through Tumblr for clips is a pain. 💀

it's sad that it doesn't get talked about how clever the guy is and while the fix is pretty easy (just getting more missasaurios to talk about him) it's just a case of bothering to translate stuff cuz that shit takes time and effort

the guilty gear wiki is fucking weird man. there was definitely some drama that happened on their back in the day something about venom being gay iicr. which he is. if i had the strength i would ask the people who were part of the fandom around the late 00s-10s because i just see old tumblr, twitter, and dustloop forum posts and man did something happened there.
most of the guilty gear fandom of that era are bilingual eng/jpn and very willing to import stuff from japan (like the update for ac+r) so that’s why most of the translation to eng stuff can be a little off. i guess the thought was why bother to translate when most of people interested already understand japanese?
after many of the early 00s era fans left it was less about who was the most accurate and more about who got the translation and their story out first. and unfortunately some people taking credit for other’s translation
It all goes back to Blade, though I don't really want to elaborate on it in detail in a public space because getting involved in any sort of drama is too much effort lol Even if it's 20 years old. The gist of it boiled down to adding unsourced, incorrect, biased information to the wiki en masse.
I haven't seen/heard anything about people taking credit for others' translations in my digs through archives, but so much of that era of the EN GG community has been lost to time... I do know about the inaccuracies in the translations that survived though, and that at least Ed Chang (who did some of the drama CD translations) has apologized for the errors. They were some of his first translation projects and he had to make the transcripts himself. It's a lot of work, I can't be mad about the errors because I know I would've made a hell of a lot more than he did haha
Most of the fandom being at least fluently bilingual in reading English and Japanese makes me wonder if maybe there wasn't an early EN fan translation of Lightning the Argent that's since been lost after all. Maybe it was just the only one of the two books that had a JP rip available and people who knew Japanese read it that way 🤔 One day I'll figure this mystery out...

the stories i think are MOST crucial to read are Element, Pleiades Night and Wonder Game, these stories consist of their more critical story beats, BUT! i do HIGHLY recommend reading at least some other stories aswell before reading wonder game, as i feel the story hits harder when you have a clearer grasp on the characters and their relationships. but the choice is yours!
some personal favs are Sunshower Festa and Blood Banquet. theyre fun silly stories that feature the members relationships with the members of 2wink, undead, and shu! sora is also at center of these! i also really enjoy Haunted Dollhouse, which features valkyrie!

hello, tumblr! so I was bored and was thinking about pjsk as I often do and this particular train of thought led to me scouring the lyrics of songs to see which group swore the most. here are my results:
Leo/need:
none. family friendly fr stan l/n <33 (unless you count like, kagerou daze bc I doubt being killed over and over is content for kids)

The way I narrowed these down was by first going through this page that had a list of songs with “inappropriate lyrics” and looking at the translations of those specific songs.
Then I went through the main song list on the wiki, only looking at cover songs since I assumed the commissioned songs wouldn’t have any words I was looking for. I went through all of the songs and their lyrics featured on the wiki, though I did speed through them a bit so i might’ve missed a few words

alright so we've got 10 buddies (prisoners) in this Milgram prison who are all technically guilty of "taking a life" (not killing someone, only around four of them did that from what we know.)
in the beginning, this is all the info available.
there's 3 trials over the course of years, 1 of which already fully passed, the second of which is more-or-less on the edge being finished -> as im writing this, you can vote for 2 characters, and the last 2 are yet to be judged at all
during each trial:
the official youtube channel releases a new MV (song) about the character currently being judged. (and a cover of a deco*27 song on spotify)
a voice drama of a discussion between the character and the warden (Es) is uploaded on spotify. an english translation by fans is usually uploaded not long after on youtube
and later, when both of the above has been realized for two characters
interrogation questions are answered on twitter. (here's the fan eng account)
INFO 1: in official sources (website etc) they use "guilty or innocent". this is misleading. they're all guilty of something. the only question is your forgiveness.
INFO 2: the official english translations of the songs sometimes Suck Major Ass (see: Undercover), but theyre fine enough most of the time.
now that we're onto trial2 we know what an unforgiven vote does, which is: less privileges/freedom, more restrains, mental state done did fucked up if they care, more but can't remember right now.
in-universe, the warden judges them. you influence the judgement with daily votes.
and the most important of all: any reason to judge is a good reason!!
unforgiven cause you think they're reprehensible? sure! forgiven cause theyre cute? yeah! forgiven for the lolz? why not!
…there's also the question if this all is technically a infohazard because by knowing about the vote and then abstaining from voting (or not doing anything at all) is still participating anyway.
TLDR: over time you get more info about 10 characters who all took a life, and with that info you decide whether you forgive them or not in three trials

the thing is that the literal last character of the roster to be judged is a Justice Fanatic who got forgiven!! guess what she did to those who weren't.
long story short she got 03 blind in one eye, 06 now has a broken arm + bruised ribs + concussion iirc, 08 is a kid so she got skipped, and 09 fought back but you can see it took a lot.
why aren't any of them dead? the resident medic 05 was judged forgiven so he was free to help them.

I hate that 7seas is "the eng danmei" publisher now because they fucking suck. They've always taken a heavy editorial hand with their works and have even censored a queer relationship before. Tor almost got the publishing rights and I mourn every damn day for that.
I’m new to reading danmei translations from official publishers like this, but my stake is just the complete disrespect of authors that happens when translators take liberties with others’ writings, especially Black creators and creators of color.
I’m remembering how it came out that a lot of Rumi’s poems translated into English were actually translated by a someone who only pretended to know the language. So it was mostly made up sayings now ingrained in a lot of English-speaking readers’ minds. I’m remembering how poet M. NourbeSe Phillip had to put up a petition to have a butchered translation of her Zong collection removed because the Italian translators erased the intentions behind her forms to create gibberish. I’ve seen people speak fondly of old fan translations before anime became big where translators would just throw anything in without knowledge or care for the language, which really isn’t cute. And this doesn’t even account for how if something isn’t popular enough, no one thinks to even translate it, let alone translate it faithfully.
Translation is so hard, but the way I rarely see these problems pop up for mainstream white creators with a ton of money behind them but I can list and list and list this happening to nonwhite creators of all walks of life, across all mediums and popularity, officially published or fan-run is absolutely a problem that 7seas is only a part of. And the way that there are translators who care for the works and creators, who would have translated faithfully, who I can list at least five of them who would have done better for mdzs just from tumblr, but none of them are getting paid to do this? This is an industry problem and a cultural problem around translations.
I’m not giving money to 7seas for shoddy translations; they are not the only avenue in which I can monetarily support mxtx. But the bigger problem is lack of respect shown to certain creators and the works that they put into the world when it’s time to translate them.

Ohhhhh my god I’m genuinely so sick of people saying “the eng translations are so bad!!!!!” Yes theres issues but you can still. Fucking read the unofficial translations. The games more accessible now and Thats a win since not everyone can download Qooapp or whatever it’s called or change their Apple ID! You can. Still enjoy the game.
